A question about the photo gallery [SOLVED] - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
since yesterday I'm also an extremely happy owner of the Samsung Galaxy SIII and I was wondering about a thing.
In the settings I've already removed the checkbox regarding the syncing of Picasa Web photos however they still appear on the gallery.
The only way to remove them is by changing the view to local only but in that case The facebook photos don't appear either.
Is there any way to do remove them but show all photos except Picasa Web?

I had a similar issue on my G Nex, try this. Once you have all the syncs turned off, go into settings >> apps and clear data on both Gallery and Google+ (if G+ is installed). That should do it.

Deleting the cache of the gallery did the trick! Thanks!

[SOLVED!] Favorite contacts facebook thumbnails do not update

hi guys,
i'd just noticed this problem right now, after i told my friend to change his facebook profile picture - it did not change in my favorites contacts, it remained the same as the one he had before..
i remember that when i first got the phone and people would change their facebook profile pictures they would simultaneously change in my favorite contacts as well..
i already tried removing the contact's photo and canceling the contact's link to facebook and set it all back again, but i still get the previous picture and not the new one.
maybe something to do with cache?.. i'm just thinking out loud here..
any idea guys?
I believe that it has settings for auto update times (much like the weather, stocks, twitter, etc). Check to see how often you have it set to refresh. You can find it under settings/data services/facebook (login, data sync)
well.. yet another issue solved, thank you faelok!
Actually the update time was 2 houres, and it had been alot more than 2 houres since my friend changed his pic, BUT - i logged out of facebook acount via the data services setting, and when i logged back the pictures changed to the recent ones
p.s.
this did not help though when i logged out of facebook via the facbook app, it only worked once i went to settings > data services > turned the Facebook switch to OFF and ON again..
again - tnx alot!
Tnx! This solution solved my problem too!

S3 Gallery and Instant upload

Is it only me or ...
With "Sync Google Photos" and Sync Picassa Web Albums" activated I still cant sync my camera pictures with google+....
And the only way to make it work is to install Google+ app but then you can see picture twice in Gallery ... (one under camera pictures and the other under Instant upload folder....)
Help would be really appreciated....
What I did so far :
reset phone settings,
wipe dalvik
tried to sync with another account
tried over wifi
Sync report ok.... I have no clue !!!!
Thats how mine is. I just delete the camera photos after they sync.
Google + just uses the instant upload to put them in your private web folder. Having the sync enabled allows the phone to download those photos from your web albums and allows you to manually upload when you want. I dont think its for auto uploading like google +

So basically you mean that there is no way to sync camera photos without using Google+ app ?
I thought I could with my previous Galaxy Note... I dont understand what the "Sync Google photo" is for then....

As far as I know, not automatically. You can always go to the gallery, hold the camera folder and sync the whole album manually to wherever you want.
the link is broken on the google support site, but it use to read this:
Android 4.0 devices have a system setting that allows you to Sync Google Photos.
This setting enables syncing of your Google Photos from your web albums to your device's Gallery app. As a result, if you have a large number of photos in your web albums that have been uploaded through Picasa Web Albums or Google+, you may notice a high amount of battery or data usage during this sync.
This setting also enables or disables sync for Instant Uploads to Google+. However, to enable Instant Upload, you must enable Sync Google Photos as well as enable Instant Upload within the Google+ app

I am having trouble with background data usage from the 'Gallery' app. I think it is related to videos uploading when I'm off of wifi. In settings / accounts / gmail - I had instant upload on, and then in G+ I had to sync photos and videos only when on wifi and only when charging, but it's still using network data to background sync... and I have droidwall installed and 'gallery' is not one of the apps I white listed for network data.
Any ideas? for now I turned off background data since it didn't seem to affect any regular use of the phone and it does block the gallery app. Seems like there are quite a few options in the gmail accounts as far as photos go so not sure what they all do or what I should bother with. I do know that on my SGS, SGS2 this background usage wasn't happening and I had things setup then like I do now.

Regarding Sync with Google Account stuff

I got a Galaxy S3 (International Edition) just yesterday
I enabled it to pull stuff from my google accounts, but then when I'm going to open the contacts, I see a bunch of my gmail contacts
How can I remove those from the phone? Selecting to display 'only contacts with phones' seems to fix it, but the email contacts are still available to be seen if one goes to settings and sets to display all contacts again
The same happens with the gallery application, it has like one album for each image I've ever published in Google+, I can set it to display only images from the phone, but then this is not a permanent setting, everytime I exit the Gallery app and re-enter it, it will display all the images from G+ (and I've heard that it will scan the microSD at launch for images, so it will become a clutter of every possible image it can find in the SD)
I have now disabled the sync of google contacts / g+ stuff to the phone, from settings -> accounts and sync -> uncheck sync google photos/google+/picasa web albums/contacts, so it doesn't pull down new stuff anymore, but the old stuff is still there
Is there any way to remove that?
Is there a good gallery app that will not scan the whole SD for media, nor will pull stuff from picasa/google+?
Thanks!
quick pic is the gallery app for you, you can select which folders to see, or just long press a folder and hit exclude

I'm also using quick pic and happy with it. Simple but does the work better then stock gallery app.

Now just delete local files and you should be fine.
If you have a lot of them I would suggest to use File Browser such as ASTRO.

[Q] Cannot see contact picture thumbnail

Hi All!
My name is Matt. I've bought my S3 GT-i9300 for a few week and just a few days ago I noticed that the contact picture thumbnails no longer exists (not even the default icons). To see what I mean, please the attached image screenshot.
I've synced the facebook pictures to the contacts and has worked perfectly; I can still see the display picture that I've synced if I click onto a specific contact. But because I don't have that thumbnail, I cannot access the quick contact pop up.
The most peculiar thing is that this only occurs in the "Contacts" tab but not my "Favourites" tab. I also do not have this issue in my message app.
I cannot recall messing with any settings or installing anything besides installing facebook messenger and skype; both of which I've uninstalled with no solution to my problem. Other attempts include:
- removing my facebook account sync on my phone and deleting the remaining account details
- changed the "contacts viewed" from all to phone only to sim only, etc. but with no effect
- deleted all my sim contacts
- restarted the device
I guess the only thing I haven't tried is factory reset... but I would like to use it only as a last resort option...
My Android version is 4.1.2. I bought my phone outright.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance
Matt

Gallery App not displaying Google Photos and Facebook Marketplace Query

Hi
Having recently changed from an iPhone to an S9+ I've now also changed from an iPad to a Galaxy Tab S3. All was easy with switching to the S9, but less so with the Tab S3.
With the S9, I can view all of my photos stored on Google Photos in the Samsung Gallery App. For some reason, I can't do the same with the Tab S3 - it only shows me pictures I have either taken with the camera or downloaded, but none of my Google pics. I am struggling to understand why the two Samsung devices are so different.
I also have a missing marketplace icon on Facebook, whereas on the S9 it's present and working!
Can anyone help on either of these two queries?
Thanks!
I don't have this problem. I can see all my photos from photo.google.com just like I can from my phone on my Tab S3. Are you sure you logged in with the correct google account? It should work automagically.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I'm logged in with my correct Google account details. I can see my Google photos in the Google Photos app but none of them appear in the Samsung Gallery app for some reason. It's really strangeĀ”
Okay so I've worked it out (after resetting the device for no reason it turns out!).
My S9 is displaying loads of photos in the Gallery App as they were copied over from my old iPhone, not because Google Photos is sharing with the Gallery App.
If there is any way that I can see the photos saved in Google Photos with the Gallery App that would be great, but it doesn't seem as though this is possible.
I still have the same problem with Facebook.
Thanks
