Got proper fastboot drivers installed?
Try removing spaces from the filename, or just rename it to boot.img and then try again.
Try these, will try to think more.

how to know that proper fastboot driver is installed or not??
have tried renaming the file to "boot.img' but the same result

after connecting in fastboot mode my pc is saying in the taskbar "eject s1fastboot" so i think it's installed.
don't know what is wrong. really feeling frustrated

Did some research on Google, couldn't find solution to this, neither can I think anything more.
Phone is in fastboot mode(blue LED), bootloader is unlocked...I can't see the problem.
Anyone else, that would have ideas?

thanks for your try
anyone else??

looking at the log, the kernel that u try to flash had a space in its name isnt it?
Code:
boot_smultron_rc3_final (2).img
remove the space, eg just rename it as
Code:
boot.img
and try again.
fastboot and adb run in cmd. filename must not contain any space in it, mandatory.

i've tried with boot.img with flashtool. the output was same. how to install with cmd ???

ummm seems like u didnt understand what i'm trying to say :/
forget about it.
use this instead

problem solved. rooted by the file "runme.bat" now it's working & i think my whole night project is successful
thanks a lot

[Q] Rooting Xperia S ICS 4.0.4

Hello. I'm kinda new to all this android scene sooo have few questions. Updated mine XS via Flashtool, but stuck on rooting it .
When i access fastboot toolbox, and under "Select kernel to flash" select "recovery-nozomi.img" i get an error. Here's the log..

Thank you
Follow the instructions in this thread:-

I did the ftf route then manually rooted.
Good Luck.
@op, Is your bootloader unlocked?

I think I'll try and help some more here, as sometimes the devs assume everyone is as sharp as they are!
This is the idiots guide, forgive me if I'm stating the obvious!
Ok, make sure you have the latest version of Flashtool installed, 0.8.6.0 is the latest I believe.
Download and copy the 6.1.a.0.452 ftf file to the firmwares folder of wherever you installed flashtool, mine is c:/Flashtool/firmwares.
Now, switch off the phone... Wait 20 seconds or so.
Whilst pressing the volume down button, connect the usb.
You should, if your drivers are installed correctly see device connected in flash mode appear in the window. The phones LED will be green.
Click the lightining flash button.
Select Flash Mode.
You will see the file listed in the 'select a firmware' window; select it.
If you do not wish to wipe data, then unselect the wipe data checkbox, I suggest you do wipe, click OK.
Flashtool now preps itself and some seconds later flashing should commence.
I've been re-faslhing mine as I write this, so I know it works.
Now, rooting... You will need an unlocked bootloader, assuming you have, if you have not, then check out the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
You may or may not be able to unlock the bootloader, depends who the provider/supplier was. Mine was from phones4u and was a generic unbranded unit.
Once, you have unlocked the bootloader then you can procede to rooting the phone.
I am assuming here that you have downloaded the following files:
CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip
kernel.rar
recovery-nozomi.img
You will also have installed Fastboot, and added it to your windows paths.
First things first, browse your Xperia from Filebrowser, and copy the file "CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip" to the root folder.
In Windows, browse to the folder containing the .img file and the extracted kernel.sin file. Launch a command prompt from that folder, do this by holding the shft key down when you right mouse and select 'open command window here'.
Now, if you have done your paths correctly etc, type fastboot, and you will get a list of the command options, this is just to prove your paths!
Type 'fastboot flash boot recovery-nozami.img'
You will get waiting for device...
Phone off, wait 20 seconds or so...
holding volume UP key, connect usb, device will flash.
Now, unplug the usb and power up the phone, you will see a menu, using the vol keys, up and down, 'select install zip from sdcard' using the camera button to select.
then select 'choose zip file from SD card'
You should see the 'CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip' we copied earlier at the bottom of the list, select it.
It should now have a little list with no's and a yes, so up/dpwn to the yes with the option to install and select.
That should install correctly, mine just has, and we are almost there.
In little menu at the top, select 'go back' and you will see an option to 'reboot system', do not select it yet!
Go back to your windows prompt, and type
Type 'fastboot flash boot kernel.sin'
Now back to the phone, and insert the usb cable... press the camera button and immediately press volume up, LED will turn blue. Now, this is where it may just be my PC, but what I need to do now, is hit return on the pc and it says Waiting for device, I quickly unplug the usb, and plug it back in, and it flashes the kernel.sin file.
The trick is in the 'reboot system' and getting the vol up timing right to enter the fastboot mode.
That's the way I've done it, and it all works perfectly. Hope it helps you.
first you need to unlock bootloader which MAY void your warranty, than you have to instal custom KERNEL, doomlord have wonderful kernel.
Than over kernel recovery flash pre rooted image.
I was not aware that the ICS ftf was not an official sony release; if it is signed by Sony, you do not need an unlocked bootloader.
Custom Kernel for ICS??? Since last night?

What you are doing above is trying to root, which for now needs a unlocked bootloader to do. The official firmware itself is signed so it's not an issue, but flashing recovery and switching out kernels is, and won't be allowed on a locked bootloader.
@electrash:
Doom hasn't built a kernel for ICS yet, right? It's not a good idea to flash a GB kernel over ICS, its a good way to break things :/.

Which his exactly what I wrote in my instructions; as I said, he can blow ICS, he may or may not be able to root.

marjohn56, excellent instructions, thank you! As far as I saw this one is the only one that describes the process of flashing SU inside recovery. Thanks a lot!
The only thing I can add is that you may turn off your phone once SuperSU was installed. The phone will just not power on the actual system until kernel.sin will be flashed, it will be just booted to recovery every time. So once phone was turned off, just hold the volume up button and plug in the USB cable, then flash kernel.sin as described. The process of flashing kernel.sin is the same as flashing nozomi-recovery, from fastboot point of view. What we're doing is just putting recovery image to root the device and then putting kernel image back to work normally with the system.
Correct me if I'm wrong...

[Q] Problem with flashtool (first time happening to me)

I always use flashtool and I never had any problems before. But today I installed flashtool on my newly formatted pc (Windows 7 x64) and I always install flashtool on it and it works perfectly. But today i wanted to flash something with fastboot mode. so i installed all of the required drivers and my pc recognized the phone and showed me its connected in fastboot mode and even my flashtool recognized it, but here is the catch.. whenever i press on the "Bolt" i con and select fastboot mode , when i press "Ok" it doesn't do nothing and it doesn't take me to fastboot mode at all. It just stays that way and nothing happens, I've tried the x32Bit flashtool and the x64Bit flashtool and still having the same problem..so what can i do ? did i forget anything or is there anything wrong ?
Please tell me what should i do to get into fastboot mode on the flashtool ?

[Q] SE ST15i Flashing/unlocking drivers question

Hey! I've been googling about 2 days now but there seems that nobody got the same problem as I'm facing.
SE st15i 4.0.2.A.0.62
I know that I need to unlock the bootloader to flash custom ROM. But I can neither unlock nor flash stock ROMs.
Need to know exactly which driver I should use to make unlocking/flashing possible?
The flashtool-drivers package dont work, even if i tried to install them all.
And as a youtube video showed me that I need to use "ADB drivers" but I can't use those drivers in flash mode, only fastboot mode.
I've tried
flashtool -> Gives me ERROR

try this http://xperiapalace.blogspot.in/2012/03/install-adb-drivers-for-all-phones.html
It still pops up as SEMC mass storage USB device.. And now I cant uninstall the drivers from the fastboot-drivers..
When connected in fastboot mode in devicemanager it shows as SEMC flash device, and in flashmode Sony fastboot interface.. Earlier yesterday I could connect the device in flashmode and it showed up as ADB device.. But thats gone now..
But, back to the tutorial, installing Android SDK and Java JDK doesnt seems to change anything. And I cant "double-click on “USB Driver package, revision..”." (quote) But Google USB drivers are installed.
And it seems that the Google USB drivers isnt for x64 since it complain about it..
I keep on trying to install from the flashtool, flashtool-drivers but through devicemanager I cant change the SEMC-driver to WinUSB or ggsemc. Even though driverinsstall-guide states that it installed WinUSB drivers. Still I cant use them with devicemanager ...
EDIT: It should not change anything if I change fastboot drivers but/and flashmode drivers cant be changed
Dont know if this is relevant, but in fastbootmode i see different Android devices (asus, google nexus, samsung and htc but not SE drivers) further down I see multiple Sony drivers, Sony sa0102 to Sony so0101.
In flashmode I cant change "SEMC flash device" driver.. Can this be the place where the problem reside?
Edit: If I untick "show compatible hardware" I find some different drivers from sony/sony ericsson, but non of which seems to be for the st15i

Xperia U won't be recognized by Computer

Hey fellas I really need some help over here. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm kinda new to all this stuff so please be kind.
I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone some time ago and now decided to install a Custom Rom. So I choose this Rom "LiGux-ICS", my device was already on ICS and I selected the boot.img in the zip package for the kernel. (Up to now I've just been following the instructions)
Now here comes my problem, instead of putting the zip files on my SD Card I unpacked them and put them on my Card, simply because I didn't know better. Now when I start my phone theres no mobile connection, no wifi and also my Computer doesnt detect the device anymore. So basically I cant do anything with it right now.
I tried to download the drivers manually so my Computer can detect the "unknown device", but it didn't work.
I can't go into Fastboot mode because my device wont be recognized, I tried to install the Fastboot drivers via Flashtool, but it didn't work either.
So right now I really dont know what to do anymore an I'm hoping you pros can!
Model Number: ST25i (Xperia U)
Android V: 4.0.4.
Baseband Version: Unknown
Build Number: 6.1.1.B.1.10
Kernel Version: [email protected])) #0 SMP PREEMPT
Here's the link to the Rom I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055679
I hope thats all you need to help me out here, thanks in advance
connect your device in flash mode(volume down while plugging in cable) and flash it with stock kernel so that you can revert it to stock with flash tool
Probably, you don't know anything about flashing I hope.
Download latest ICS .ftf files and place it on firmwares folder of your flashtool then flash it.
Hope that will solve.
Try searching..
@kvnkarthik
Thanks for the quick reply, I've been searching for it the last hour now and cant find it anywhere, could you provide me a link maybe?
@littlezed
Already tried that, I get an Error when trying to flash a firmware
Wait a minute.. Did you even try to boot CWM after you flashed the kernel? :?
CM kernel are for CM ROMs. Try boot up to CWM and flash your ROM

Search in Xperia U Android Development section. Try a little bit more.
@Little Zed
Sorry, should have done that. I cant flash the roms because I didnt put the zip on my sdcard but the extracted folders, if there would be any option to install from folder, my problem would be solved within a second.
Just tried to flash the stock kernel but I get the same error as usual

No you can't because the folder inside META-INF should be zipped and it is containing many symlinks scripts to get your ROM working.
How about this
Do you know about any ADB knowledge?
Try mounting your phone with recovery via
- Mounts and storage > Mount USB storage
- Your phone will not mount actually but ADB server is up
- You can push your zip via ADB by this command (Make sure your ROM zip is in ADB existing folder)
- Type "adb push the_name_of_your_rom.zip /sdcard
Then unmount it and install your rom.. Happy flashing

It's OK. If you still got problems, just flash your phone with ICS ftf It's OK man. Don't afraid to download. You'll be need that firmware in any time so it is not a waste to download that.
you can download it from here
http://www.androidgadgematic.com/2012/10/install-android-4-0-4-ics-official-sony-u-st25i.html
here I go again, I was full of hope to solve this problem but unfortunately I can't. My Phone is in CWM, I mounted the USB Mass Storage device and left it in the menu (it says it'll unmount if I leave the menu).
Downloaded adb, checked for devices and it shows me the list of attached devices... which are none. Nevertheless I tried to push it to my sdcard but it gives me an error: device not found. As of right now I'm really mad because nothing so far has worked for me. Is there anything I'm missing?! Did I do something wrong or why isnt there my freaking device in the list?!
Try to fastboot flash the kernel you had before
For a moment I was really happy but it seems that two new problems appear after I solve one. I managed to flash a matching kernel, could connect to my sdcard via pc and put the custom roms on it. Tried to flash the kernel with the boot.img in the Custom Rom's archive, which I have done yesterday and which worked just like a charm, and now it doesnt.
Flashtool shows me this error:
26/052/2013 21:52:16 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode

Seriously?! What the hell is going on, I feel like the biggest idiot ever, right now. Other than that, is it alright if the custom rom's a rar-file or does it really has to be a zip-file.
Ummmm maybe because you in flash mode and not fastboot mode?
Damn, my fault, with all those modes and buttons I guess I got confused. Got my Custom Rom running and everything works fine, thank you all for your help and patience, you're great )

[SOLVED] Please Help, I might just have bricked my device

This may related to kernel problem. I think I used the wrong one.(Fast boot is accessible)
today i tried to install lollipop on my D6503 Z2 device running 17.xxxxxx (I cant remember and i cant turn my phone on now)
i downloaded the file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-d6503-23-1-0-690-bal-rooted-t3057150
however, i cant flash the zip file since i cannot get in to recovery mode. (when ever i try to reboot into recovery mode it just boot into normal stock rom) So i tried installing TWRP from the play store app "TWRP Manager" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager&hl=en but it failed. I remember it said something like "the installation has failed. Either you have already install custom recovery or there might be some other problems. Do you want to reboot in recovery mode?" I clicked "yes" then it booted into stock rom again. After failing I went into TWRP website and manually download the latest version of TWRO 2.8.6.0 on this website http://dl.twrp.me/sirius/ and proceed to download flashtool form www.flashtool.net/ .
I conected my device and install dual boot recovery "Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer". I choose no. 3 first (which nothing happened) and then i choose no. 1. Its said successful. I tried to reboot again which didn't change anything.
Then I opened the flashtool i downloaded and get into fastboot mode( since flash mode cant flash the img file for me. or I just don't know how to do it). In fast boot option I clicked "reboot into fastboot mode via ADB" every went fine I got the blue light with black screen. Then I clicked "select Kernel to Flash" which is my TWRP recovery. After it is done, I tried to reboot back to stock however after the sony logo is shown the screen went dark and I couldn't do anything beside pressing volume up and power to force shut down. I rebooted and nothing changes.
In short
-I tried to install lollipop pre rooted on my Z2
-Couldn't instal. I can't reboot into recovery mode
-try to manually install TWRP by downloading from its website and flash in fastboot mode (i choose "select Kernel to Flash")
-Now I cannot boot my device back to stock. After the sony is shown, the screen went black. I need to forced shutdown.
-Just realized that my kernel version changed to 3.4.0cyanogenmod
-I probably flashed the wrong kernel
-I cannot get into recovery mode
-i did do a TWRP back up
Btw here is my log when trying to flash the TWRP

That surely will do the trick. I personally had the same problem years back, and having had my first Sony Xperia phone, I did manage to get over it. What I did practically is detailed in that link posted by @o0Matt0o , today I see someone with same problem and I can imagine the frustration, because I did too.
Good luck friend.

I've 'bricked' my phones many times. I know it frustrating. But Xperias are so easy to fix.
The best thing about a brick is you learn how to fix it.

Sure friend, just talking about first time experience and that's what he's going through right now. You and I are now conversant with fixing these easily because it's not our first time.
