Greetings,
I was trying to root my phone but something went wrong.
Odin said the root was sucessful, but when I switch my phone on, it just shows the yellow triangle and it just freezes.
I can wait, 5, 10...15 minutes it just keep showing that screen and it won't let me do anything. Can't see kernel version, can't install anything..
If I do home button + vol up + switch, it will show me the same screen again.
If I do home button + vol down + switch, it will ask to reboot or install. If I do install and connect it to my computer, my computer won't recognize it. Odin won't too.
And if I switch it on now it get's heated fast.
What do you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Edit: sorry forgot to say. Use USB jig to get into download mode.
Download one of chainfires cfroot kernels or siyah kernel and flash via Odin.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct kernel got the corresponding ROM?
I doubt a USB jig would help you if you had ICS.

the usb jig still works fine on ICS.
there was a break in the gingerbread roms, when they came out with a new bootloader that would not allow resetting of the binary counter and removing the yellow triangle through the usb jig, but if you flash the old bootloader from intratech's thread, there is no problem. works for ICS as well.
also, i don't understand how people are so eager to use triangleaway. chainfire wrote in his own thread, that it is an emergency tool, if you have to send your phone in and don't have a jig handy, but in general, the jig is preferable, because it is safe, in contrast to an app.

Kernel version? I'm not sure I can't turn it on to check.
I do know I had the 4.0.3 android version though.

Most likely not.
All I did was following this tutorial that told me to download DXLP9 rooting package and Odin.
Is it possible that my phone is dead??? :'( My computer won't even recognize it anymore

What did you mean by "this tutorial"? Do you have a link?
You can probably flash the latest 3.x Siyah kernel to at least get the phone booting. Who knows, you may even like Siyah, as aceofclubs suggests above. (and Siyah roots your phone too)

I do, I just can't post it since I'm still a newbie.
But if you look on Google for "How To Root Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I1900 on Android v4.0.3 ICS DXLP9 firmware" it's the one on the android updater site.

Yes, but you have the option of downloading a CWM flashable zip package as well; the dev for Siyah offers both packages. A .tar for Odin, and a .zip for CWM recovery.
Siyah (for ICS) thread.
I just noticed that on the upper left corner of "Downloading.. Do not turn off target !!" screen, it says "Odin Mode; Product name ... (...) "

Well, can you still get to recovery mode? If so, you can download the CWM .zip file for Siyah, put it on your SD card, and flash it that way...
But before you do that; to get your computer to recognize the phone being plugged in, have you tried:
- making sure Kies is not running at the same time Odin is?
- different USB cable?
- different USB port? (should be directly to PC port, not a hub, or keyboard, or other pass-through)
- different computer?
It is extremely irregular for a kernel flash to break the USB port functionality.

The thing is, before I tried to root, the computer (and Odin) did detect the SG.

Telus Fascinate 3G+ recently got updated to Gingerbread and here is how to root it.
Things that you need
1.Speedmod Kernel
2.Stock GB kernel [attatched below]
How?
1. First flash the Speedmod kernel via odin [vol down + connect the usb]
2. uncheck repartion, auto reboot option and flash it
3. go to recovery mod [vol up & down + power button]
4. go to speedmod advanced option menu
5. root your device
6. flash back to Stock Telus GB kernel via odin
This works??? I'm assuming it do since you posted it. God damn, thank you so much. Really. I have so many I use on a regular basis that I couldn't use because I couldn't get root.
In total since yesterday I've reset my phone 7 times from trying different things.
Will those phone boot on this kernel? and is their any advantages over the stock kernel?
Do you know a good, fool proof method I can rip this rom for others?
Thanks Again.

Hey
This is just showing you that how to root. and the stock kernel has nothing its just original kernel.
From my understanding, other sgs and telus fascinate has diffrent bootloader system. And also to create Custom Rom, we need source, but we dont right now. We have to w8 for it.
Thanks,
Confimed! Works.
Just to confirm for others this works perfect for rooting the 2.3.3 GB stock update for Telus Fascinate. I didn't try booting while I had the speedmod kernel flashed. Happy with root right now.

if you have root, would you mind dumping the firmware? since the telus fascinate is (mostly) a rebranded tmobile vibrant, I'd like to be able to have someone look at the firmware blobs for GPS for use with CM. Can't find an ODIN-able package to tear apart anywhere (haven't looked in a day or so though).
Worked brilliantly. (and I'm an Android noob too!)
Thanks!

Total n00b question, but what do I need to set in Odin to use these files - unchecking repartition and reboot is straightforward - but where do I set up the TAR for the kernel (In the past I have use SGS kernel flasher - but that needs root - hence my predicament LOL).
All help, advice, and fu appreciated.
Click on the PDA box in Odin and choose Speedmod Kernel. Uncheck those boxes on the left and then put your phone in download mode.
Click start and pray.
The rest of the directions are pretty straight forward. Follow those same principals for dumping the stock kernel back on the phone.

Great - and sorry, how do I get the phone in download mode (read another odin how to, it says a box will turn yellow which happens with just the down vol while connecting the USB).
Power the phone off.. Have your usb cable on hand.
Plug the phone in, press vol down + power on. You'll know immediately if it worked. Took me a few tries to figure it out.

I guess I missed it but where does it show in that guide how to remove it using Mobile Odin? I see how to flash a new kernel without ever getting the triangle.
His other guide here (which is in the OP), shows how to remove it with a computer.

Are you sure that this removes the warning sign?
Since it's an on-device flash I'd be shocked if it removes it. Only download mode (Odin/Heimdall) flashes trigger changes to the warning screen. That's how we can flash custom kernels on-device without triggering it.
Thanks.. finally that annoying triangle is gone!!!
Just did it following the op's instructions and it does remove the triangle on boot. After flashing entropy's 1/23 release cause it was a tar file there still wasn't a triangle. I then flashed his 1/29 release via cwm and there is still no triangle on boot.
Thanks op for a quick, easy, and painless way of getting rid of it.

As long as you use CWM from Entropy or Siyah Kernel it should be fine and the triangle wont appear.
Weird... If an internal flash of a stock binary will clear the triangle, that makes things a LOT easier for people.

Could someone please explain this to me.
Facts as I understand them:
Mobile Odin uses a "flash kernel" to flash most of the elements of the software. However, it is possible to use Mobile Odin lite without the "flash kernel" to flash a kernel. The "flash kernel" is actually a version of ClockworkMod Recovery that is loaded by Mobile Odin. My assumption then is that Mobile Odin flashes the kernel internally, and then boots into ClockworkMod Recovery, its "flash kernel", to flash the rest of the software.
We currently understand that anything flashed with ClockworkMod Recovery does not affect the flash counter or the yellow warning triangle, but appearantly, Mobile Odin does not use its "flash kernel" to flash the kernel?
Charifire makes the following statement in the OP of his Mobile Odin thread:
Flashing with Mobile ODIN does NOT increase your custom kernel flash counter or make the yellow warning triangle appear.
Click to collapse
So, the puzzle and the question is, if flashing a custom kernel with Mobile Odin does not make the yellow warning triangle appear, then why does flashing a stock kernel with Mobile Odin remove it?
Hmm, seems worth a try.
Odin is taking forever "dumping" since this device isn't supported. Weird.

Go to this thread and try installing the apk directly.
If it doesnt work push the apk in system/apps.
You need to flash another rom with Odin.

Get in the download mode (press simultaneously down volume rocker + menu button + power button when device is not powered)
Ignore warning and continue. Start odin and connect your phone with usb. Unrar archive you downloaded and click pda then select tar file inside archive. And flash!

Yes its normal. But we are missing something I guess...
1) Enable USB debugging mode (Settings > Applications > Development)
2) remove SIM & Battery, then reinsert battery
3) hold the buttons and plug usb to get in download mode
4) wait for Win7 USB device drivers to run properly
5) start ODIN3 and wait to see some action in one of the boxes
6) push ODIN3 start button & wait to see the green reset message
7) disconnect phone (it reboots itself)
It should look like this.
Ha! Maybe you're missing driver files! Do you have KIES 2 installed?

What Firmware did you download? Please state the full name of it here.
What GSII Model do you use? The Galaxy SII I9100 or the SII I9100G?
A pal of mine flashed a I9100 Firmware on a I9100G device and had an error in Odin and had a similar error on his phone after that.

If the update has failed, selecting recovery mode in Kies does not work and Odin throws out errors; I suggest you hand the phone into your nearest Samsung service center since you have stated that your phone was never rooted or modified.

Sometimes when Kies is running it can cause problems for Odin (Or so I have read), so what you can try is: Open Task Manager and then end every Kies activity that is running on your computer and then try again flashing through Odin while you are in Download mode (don`t forget to press volume up to continue through the warning) and if this goes wrong, copy the steps Odin has made until the error, so we can see where Odin has a Problem.

I didn`t said start kies, just kill all processes running connected to kies and then flash again..
but it`s your call and about warranty it should be still there if you said you haven`t rooted your phone and never installed any Rom on it. If they ask just tell them you tried to update via Kies and some weird error occurred and that`s the last thing that happened because I heard that some service centers won`t repair your phone even if you tried to flash original Samsung Firmware.

Well you downloaded a Stock Firmware already which has the brickbug but it can only brick your phone when you do this:
Here's how to BRICK your phone :
-Flash the 4.0.4 firmware with/without its pit file
-Use any 4.0.4 based kernel - stock or modified (ex cf-root)
-Go to cwm and do a wipe data & wipe cache and/or perform a nandroid restore of any previous firmware
=> The process begins normally but it may/will switch off at any time without waking up ever again !!!!!
But since you don`t want to root your phone, you can`t go into CWM, so bricking your phone with the firmware you downloaded shouldn`t happen but if you want to be sure, just download any 4.0.3 Stock Firmware from Samfirmware and flash via Odin

Listen, you have the right file for your phone, but it appears the flash failed part way through.
Are you plugged directly into a usb port on your computer? (i.e. not using a hub, or a port on the keyboard or monitor, etc?)
If not, make sure to use a direct port on the computer.
If so, I'd try a different port on the computer, and maybe try a different usb cable.
Not a direct port, bad port, and bad cable can all cause bad flashes.

I don't know why you'd want to go all the way back down to 2.3.3, but sure, that should work. Provided, of course, you downloaded a firmware meant for your phone.

Just a bootloop, give this a go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
You will lose all data although, nothing on external sd card will be lost.
Also, how did you flash the ROM? If you followed the guide step-by-step, you shouldn't have ended up in a bootloop.
I wiped all partitions and then flashed the zip file.
Is it with a bootloop that you even can't get in to recovery? I'm stuck on samsung logo, not on RR logo

Ah I'm stupid! You need to get into recovery for that thread! You're definitely holding the correct buttons when the phone is fully off (home + power + volume up)?
I think I will give it a go. But the threat says that you should do it from your recovery, or if you are not comfortable with the recovery way you should do it via odin. I can't get in recovery, so maybe I have an other problem..
I'm honestly a little scared of odin.
once I had to do something with odin, but that failed. so I could not get out download mode..

This is taken straight from my rooting guide. It will help you correctly set up Odin:
First off, you need Odin, which is a flashing tool specifically designed for the SGS2: Just type in "Odin 1.85" without quotations into Google and the first result should display "Odin - xdadevelopers - XDA Developers." Click on the link and Odin will download.
Now before going ahead with Odin, download Kies: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ ,which is like iTunes for Samsung Devices, the drivers are needed for Odin, but when the drivers have been installed, close Kies, right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your desktop, I'll assume your running Windows 7, and go into Task Manager. Now find anything with Kies running in the Task Manager, right click on them and kill them.
Once you have done this, go to "sammobile.com", sign up and download a stock ROM for the GT-I9100. I'll assume you have the international SGS2, just remove your battery and make sure it isn't the GT-I9100G. Then flash via Odin by connecting your phone, making sure Odin is configured like above, and then putting your phone in download mode, connecting it to your PC and put the file you downloaded in the PDA section and flash.

Yes, if you can't get into Recovery Mode, a new flash is your only saviour. When you have flashed the ROM and hopefully everything went well, you can root your ROM by using Chainfire's CF-Root. Then you could restore a backup.
I have also a zip-file of my previous rom on my sd-card. That was codename lungo. Can I flash that zip so i don't neet to re-root lik you said?

Do you know what it is/does? Also, the guide I took that segment on setting up Odin was actually written for rooting your ROM with CF-Root.
Oh, its a ROM. My bad! Well, I'm not too sure. I think if you have a backup of it, that would be safer. Rooting is real easy anyway.
Is Codename Lungo not a HTC Sensation ROM?
Oke thank you.
I will download the stock firmware from sammobile, and try to flash it with Odin. I just want it to work again (root or no root) and not have to buy a new phone

Don't thank me till it's working! Once new ROM flashed and booted, let me know.
By the way, don't use the .PIT file if one is included in the download, if you get PDA, PHONE and CSC, put in appropriate sections of Odin and flash, if just one file, put in PDA section and flash.
