trying to decide between these 2 phones. curious which people think is the better buy right now...i have the note and broke the screen. i love the display, but handling one handed it is sometimes tough, especially reaching the corners...and is it an easier phone to crack because of it's size? other than that i do love the thing though
You said your self the note is easier to break...there s a good chance the nextt note will break again. S3 is more rounded and more manageable to hold.

I wouldn't buy the current Note right now. If rumors are to be believed it's being replaced by a Note II in September. The new version is supposed to be styled like the SGS3, have a bigger display, be narrower, and easier to hold.

What is the note? A bigger screen version of the skyrocket. U will get bored in two weeksof u get the note. Personal experience
Bought sgs3 2 days ago and I'm overall very satisfied with my purchase. However i already started to miss the bigger screen of the Note which i gave to my wife. One thing is for sure-i will get Note 2 in couple of months

Addict. But I can't talk. I miss my note too. Even tho has the same Res screen there's something about it. I gave it too my girlfriend when she went overseas instead of using her iphone and she fell in love. That said I would still pick the s3

Having the note with aokp and the dpi set to 240 really does make me miss all of that screen space.
I'm using my s3 as a daily and my note as a baby tablet. Best of both worlds.

IMO,two straight forward options:
1. If you are in a hurry, just pick the s3 (performance way better than the current note)
2. If you can wait, then go for the note2
(It's performance will surely be on par or better than s3, then it will just be a choice of screen size preference and ergonomic comfort)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
In comparing the 2, i notice a couple differences that will make a difference to me.
1. No search button and home button is different...i know there is a center button, but i don't like that you have to hard press that, as opposed to the soft press of the note. I use maps a LOT and that search button was perfect for it...i think i would miss those 2 features.
2. The form factor of SIII is very nice, feels nicer in the hand and easier to hit all corners of screen, and just use one handed in general.
3. Note is MUCH bigger screen.
Can't tell performance-wise a huge difference yet but that could change...
still on the fence but leaning towards the note bc of the buttons
Even though both of the phones have big screens I would say S III (for me) is just the right size. Note and Note II would be to big in my opinion unless you have something like a bag to carry them.
after using the note for a few months, the sIII does NOT seem like a big screen at all, in fact i was hoping it would be bigger and that would have made my decision easier. a pinch smaller than the note is PERFECT imo.
Note for me is way better than s3 .....
Bigger screen....
More powerful battery.......
Comes with s-pen.....
And by rooting my gnote I have got all the new features which comes with s3.....
I think this is enough for you to make a decision and pick a right cell....
Or wait for Note 2
Note really rockzzz....

Hi!
So I was thinking of getting this phone or the Galaxy nexus. I was wondering if I should still get the gs2 or wait a while for the galaxy nexus price to drop to the same numbers.
GS2 costs 350€ and nexus is 450€ so that makes the galaxy s2 more appealing. Also the nexus might have screen that's a little too big already, but the concern with gs2 is the resolution, were it qHd I would have already gotten it!
Anyway i wouldn't want to spent more than 375€ on the phone, 350€ would be best. And if you have ordered from ebay etc. I'd also like to now about that since could probably get them cheaper from there. Are the phones in ebay UK international versions that work here in Finland too?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: So everyone tell me why I should get galaxy s2 instead of galaxy nexus since you can probably best answer this question!

the waiting game in the mobile industry never ends.
I'll say buy galaxy SII now.
I'll pick galaxy SII over nexus any day but that's just me.
If you want me to justify my reasons, I will.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Please do! As much info as possible will be appreciated!
*Galaxy SII (GT I9100) over Galaxy Nexus*
-Better camera performance, still imaging and video
-Better Raw processing power. Galaxy SII blew galaxy nexus or of water in every benchmark possible, after ICS upgrade
-Better graphic performance
-RGB screen vs Pentile
-Expandable storage. Galaxy nexus doesn't have SD card slot and 32g version is not common
-Better battery performance
-I love my home button
-Excellent developer support. This compensates for lack of on-time updates as compared to nexus e.g I'm presently running a very stable jellybean ROM on my galaxy SII just like galaxy nexus thanks to developers
-very compact size, thus easier to handle
-cheaper outside US
***Galaxy Nexus over Galaxy SII***
-720p HD screen resolution
-extremely fast updates/upgrades
-Larger screen (4.65 vs 4.3)
-cheaper in US

All right thanks a lot! The camera isn't that important for me so don't really consider that as a plus. I prefer 4.3 over the larger display though but the resolution is making me uncertain. Is it large enough? I have a htc wildfire now so any phone will be a huge improvement
And even though i trust Di Matteo's opinion, I'd still like to hear what other people think. If a Milan fan agrees with this I'm sold!
i just got my s2 had it for a week and its amazing just wish the screen didnt drain so much battery have to have it turned down if you want you phone to last a long time.

You will be amazed by S2 screen. Nexus with 720p looks like a joke when you compare it to S2. S2 has super amoled plus even though the resolution is just 480x800, it still blows the Nexus 720p screen away!

Hello, I just recently got offered an almost brand new Galaxy Note for my Galaxy Nexus. How do you guys feel about the phone? I really am intrigued about the fact that the display is so large and how high the ppi is. Do you have an regrets about it or wish you bought another phone? Would you trade your Note for the Galaxy Nexus? Please leave a comment below!

I definitely would, but my conract doesn't end for another year :crying: What do you think about your Note? Would you give it up for a Galaxy Nexus, or keep it? Also, how good is the development for this phone. I know it won't be as good as the Nexus.
Depends on what you value more. Screen is amazing on the note, and we have some great development going on. Now that I own both phones, its really a tossup between which phone I would pick if I had to choose one. I would probably pick my note purely for the screen.

If you're anything like most Note users, the screen size alone will pull you towards the Note.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
[Lady]: "How do you carry that huge phone in your pocket?"
[Note User]: "I'm used to having huge stuff in my pants"
I had the galaxy nexus once ....I liked it alot..but the note is faster and bigger, and development is taking off now....so we have good developers now...good communityas well...I would trade it in second...
It really depends on what you value. If you want to run stock, get a nexus. If you want to play around with roms and don't mind running into a few bugs, the hardware on the international note blows the nexus away. The nexus is a smartphone, the more note is a super phone. I've owned both, fyi, and I wouldn't trade my note for the world, but I did like how every single rom on the gnex was flawless. Screen did feel a little small, though.
I think it comes down to if you want a 1 handed device or if you don't mind using 2 hands.
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my galaxy note

The screen size won't be a problem. I'm 6'2 and still growing so my hands are abnormally large lol. Thank you all for your input! I'm going to meet the guy tomorrow and test it. If I buy it, I'll let you guys know! I can't wait for paranoid android on this phone! I love it on my Nexus, but it seems a little cramped on the screen. I'm sure the Note will take care of that

Note! Note! Note! Note! Note! Note!
So in the past 6 months I've had the Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, and the Note. I bought the HOX when my Nexus went in for service, then traded it straight up for the Note as it has always interested me (I'm a former Dell Streak user). Here are my thoughts on all three...
Hardware
- Overall build quality goes to the HOX, no questions asked. I think the Nexus and Note are very similar since they're both made by Samsung. I love the screen on the Note the best, followed by the HOX and then the Nexus. As far as real-world performance goes, I think they're all very similar. The Note and Nexus both have removable batteries, which I have found to be VERY useful, especially for the Note given it's screen size and therefore power consumption.
Software
- As someone who always runs some sort of custom rom I have to give this one to the Nexus. The Note and HOX tie for second. There is certainly plenty of stuff out there, but there is usually some sort of trade-off i.e. the stock samsung app for the s-pen won't work on custom roms AFAIK.
Overall it comes down to... the screen! I personally miss my Nexus and am selling my Note this week. If you primarily only have a phone on you and do a lot of reading (email, web browsing, etc) the Note can't be beat. I often have my laptop or Nexus tablet so I use either of those when needed. Keep in mind that they're both 1 year old devices and the Nexus will age much better than the Note IMO. I would consider waiting until after the Note 2 is out and prices drop a bit more, but you can't go wrong with either device.
I own both. I use my nexus more. Nexus=better software
Note=bigger screen.

I'm sort of in the same boat. Don't get me wrong, the software on the Note is great, but the nexus is flawless. I wish it was possible to combine the software side of my nexus with my Notes screen. That being said, I'm still in the honeymoon phase of owning my nexus, and JB on the note will soon be every bit as good as the nexus...and that's without us even having JB source. Our note devs are awesome.

Hi there!
I'm looking for a new phone to buy around februari 2013. I'm torn between the S3 and the S3 Mini. I listed up my Pro's and Con's beneath. Will there be as much xda software development for the S3 Mini as for the S3? I mean roms cyanogenmod, MIUI,.. All that cool stuff? I'm a huge android fan and love to root my android phones and customize them with custom roms
GALAXY S III MINI
Pro: Super comfortable size
Con: No LED-notification light, battery life, memory, no auto-brightness + how about android development?
GALAXY S III
Pro: everything is awesome + huge android development
Con: size
PS: I bought a Galaxy Note 7 months ago and it was way to big for me to handle, even when I used it for months.. It wasn't all that comfortable, so that's why i'm seriously considering a MINI over an S3... But I love the S3 in all other ways more (more features & ROMS etc.).
Can you help me with my questions?
thanks!
Mini doesn't have nearly as much development, so go with S3.

My advice ...
I was myself very concerned with the size. However after my first 2 days of use size completely stopped to be an issue and at times I find the S3 quite small - so keep in mind that there are plenty of people using the Note 2 as their main phone!
So my advice is to go with the S3 :good:
Do not buy samsung phone, they do not support the rom devs. Go for Sony or Nexus device instead.

S3 all the way.
I also thought it's huge size considering I came from iphone 4. But after using it for a week and two I like it very much.
Now all other phones look like small toys to me..

This phone is for everyone, CM10 works, issues will get resolved and samsung will eventually release the source / devs will find a way around it.
@OP, the s3 is smaller than the original Note, it is a perfect size, better in every aspect over the mini.
S3 mini is such a money waste device.
S3 better quality and tech specs.

Based on rumors, it might possible we have S4 announced that time. According to rumors, S4 will be 5 inch screen, 13 MP camera and faster processor. I am totally going to buy it.
But if you are looking for smaller device then S3, S4 are not for you.
First about me: I have been using a GT-P6200L Galaxy Tab 7+ GSM, HSPA+ as my primary device. Yes, I carry a 7" tablet with a built-in phone and have been doing it for over a year. People have looked at me like I have 2 heads. But I was clearly ahead of my time with large Phablets are concerned.
I just spent a while in my local AT&T store evaluating a few Samsung products. I was interested in the MEGA as it is still big but more manageable than my Tab.
Certainly the MEGA is a great size but it DOES lag. Even my P6200 upgraded to Jelly Bean, does not lag. It is not the quickest machine on the planet but it is smooth and quick.
I then examined both the Note II and III. The 3 is certainly nice, especially the screen. The Note II seems like the value proposition. But it is simply NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. Sure, it is high resolution and Amoled but it is DIM vs. other machines. And after using a 7" Tab and contemplating the MEGA, the Note is simply too small.
AT&T has a very nice 7" Tab 3 but you cannot have a phone in it. I can buy an international version with a phone, but NO LTE.
I like the LG Optimus Pro, but I already bought one for my wife and it is also too small.
I guess I'll stick with my 7" Tab+ until they make a 6"+ LTE phablet. Hurry up already!

I also have been carrying a 7" phone around for nearly 2 years - original GTab P1000. I decided it was time to get something "up to date" - since I was never going to get a working Android 4.x on the GTab. After experiencing Samsung abandoning the P1000, & didn't want to get an "end of life" device, which counted the GTab 2 out for me. Going to a smaller screen concerned me - that eventually counted the Note 2 out. I decided to go for the Mega 6.3 ...
... I have absolutely no regrets. I have no lag on the device, its quick & smooth, & pretty much a perfect size. Screen is large enough to be usable, but the device is small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket, or on a belt clip. One of the best purchases I have made
Did you check to see if they offer the 7" Tab 3 in Australia? ?? If so... theres your LTE...But..does the Tab 3 have a flash for the camera??? I dont think it does.. I like my large screen phablets with flash....
I still rock the crap out of my GT p6800..
Non LTE.. but H+ speeds with ATT -US...gets 7-8 d/l mps on slow traffic...

Coming from an S2/Note 1/4g but no voice 7.0+ combo on T-Mobile, I wanted one device but kind of ran into similar problems. Neither the international voice Tab 3, Note 2, nor Mega gave me everything I really wanted- decent camera (out with the Tab), LTE (out with the Tab again!), decent price (no new Note 2 or Mega), a bigger screen than my Note 1 (still think the 2 feels smaller), and pentaband hspa (no Tab, Mega), and enough accessories (out with all but the Note 2). I considered a 6200 for easy sim swapping with my S2 (to keep a compact alternative) but didn't want to deal with the proprietary charger any more. Also, those tablets still cost a LOT!!!
I ended up compromising more than I wanted with a really clean, $325 T-Mobile Note 2. I like the phone, it seems to have fantastic battery life so far, and it's more pocketable than my original Note but I still want something bigger. I'll probably keep my 7.0+ as a home device or getting a voice enabled Tab 3 7" or 8" down the road to go with the new Note. Hell, I'm not even carrying THAT yet because I messed up putting my first screen protector ever on it.
The MEGA would be just fine with a faster processor, 1080p screen and Gorilla Glass. Is that too much to ask? I'll be sticking with my smooth as silk, nicely screened Tab 7+. But I'm looking for the next device...
