So my friend broke his stratosphere and he was forced to be stuck with an LG Ally. I rooted it for him and put Bionix on it and so far it runs ok, but he complains of battery life.
I was going to try Velocity V0.4 and see if that did better, but I'd really rather not have him install all his apps again. So my question is this....
Is there an SBC kernel out there for the LG Ally?
Bump
Is LG Ally really that dead? SOmebody has to know something....
All the LG Ally development I have seen is over at Android Forums ht tp://androidforums.com/lg-ally/

I don't know why the LG ally doesn't have a forum on here.
Anyways, my girlfriend is on Verizon (still under contract), and her LG Chocolate phone has broken. I need to get her a decent phone, and the only ones she can afford are the Eris and the LG Ally off craigslist.
If any of you have used both, I would love to hear an objective opinion on which one to go with.
LG Ally, haven't seen a roms for it. But it has a good keyboard, 800 MHz CPU, and WVGA screen. Eris, has good roms, nuff said.

I bought both of my boys the LG Ally when we switched to Verizon a few months ago. The Ally is rootable, but like SonicEmerald, I haven't seen any ROMs for it yet. I like the Eris better because of the ROMs that are available for it, plus I'm a HTC Sense fan! I guess you could say its a personal choice depending on what YOU like.
If she likes texting a lot, go with the Ally.
Otherwise, go with the Eris.
Ally has a 600 mhz processor, not an 800. My wife has an Ally and it's very laggy, to the point of several restarts a day. All she does is text and facebook. Battery is supposedly better than the Eris but I haven't seen much difference if any. Only plus side really is the physical keyboard, the reason she for that one in the first place, but she uses swype almost exclusively now. If you aren't going to root it, they are basically the same, with the Eris running HTC Sense, and the Ally having a keyboard. Ally will be getting upgrade to Froyo, but the Eris isn't.

Wife has the Ally and she likes the keyboard. Had to send it in once for a SD card issue, but seems like a solid phone.
Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it.
It seems Verizon won't activate a phone like these without a data plan, (even though I'm not buying it FROM verizon, just off someone from craigslist). How stupid. So it looks like we'll just be sticking with a dumb phone

Is this phone pretty much the same as an Optimus V for VirginMobile?
Has anyone had any experience modding it?
It appears to be a different phone from searches I've found, but it might be possible for them to work. Although it is best to find ROMs specifically suitted to your phone such as from here.
Hello Developers and tinkerers. I recently bought an Optimus S and I have not been able to find much information about flashing Roms/radios for this particular phone.I would like to flash the phone to one of the three companies Virgin(top choice but bad esn), Cricket(default), MetroPCS(in the future)but so far have only found people who want to flash it for me for money some only a parshal flash for little money but says no data or mms(weird) and others want to charge upto $150 for a full flash. I am experienced and want to do it myself but am having a hard time finding any free roms/radios specifically for this phone. I have a few questions about the Optimus S that I hope someone can answer. First, are the roms for different Optimus V,C,M,S Compatible with each other? Second Do I need a specific rom/radio? what would I need to flash to either Virgin or Cricket? Please help. And thank you!
I am not familiar with the optimus s when you go to your phone info does it say p500?? also i know that the ROMs for V and the p500 are not compatible so i am guessing the same goes for your phone but if it is a p500 these ROMs should work also i dont think the ROM has anything to do with the carrier although i could be wrong i have flashed multible roms and they all worked with my carrier
I have an optimus s which I flashed an Optimus V rom on. But then it made my phone think its virgin.

Why not just buy an optimus v?

Hello everyone. I'm silly and didn't do a backup before installing the Cyanogenmod 7 ROM. It works great, but the phone itself has gotten a bit slow (even after overclocking to 825MHz) and there are a few other problems, like the phone freezing after hanging up a call. The animations are still fluid, it just takes a second for them to register, along with everything else. Some games are laggy too.
Summary: does anyone have the stock ROM for the LG Optimus V, or just a plain old Android 2.2 ROM? I'd like to revert back to the original settings as much as possible to have less of a toll on the phone. Thanks a bunch!
OR, if there's a better 2.2 ROM out there or something even better than that, chuck that in a reply, I'd love to hear about it. I'm still pretty new to this.
Again, thanks!
dont overclock to 825, its not worth it
When I was running 2.2, it sped up my phone to a whole new level. Why shouldn't I overclock it to 825MHz? The battery life was fine, the phone did not overheat, and it was completely stable.
Anyway, that is not what I was asking. Does anyone have/know where a stock Android 2.2 ROM is that I could download?

There will never be a Jelly Bean port for this phone even if there is a ICS port. Development is dead for this phone. Everybody that had a LG Ally has bricked it trying to get ICS to work, or they got tired of Gingerbread. I am most likely the last developer that make a ROM for the Ally. I messed up my phone trying to get the Camera flash to work. Your post is 2 years old, but the 10 other people with this phone might be wondering. I might get a new LG Ally and finish my CM6.1 project, but I have a LG Ultimate 2 so there is no reason spend $20 bucks on one.
