Is this phone pretty much the same as an Optimus V for VirginMobile?
Has anyone had any experience modding it?
It appears to be a different phone from searches I've found, but it might be possible for them to work. Although it is best to find ROMs specifically suitted to your phone such as from here.
So my friend broke his stratosphere and he was forced to be stuck with an LG Ally. I rooted it for him and put Bionix on it and so far it runs ok, but he complains of battery life.
I was going to try Velocity V0.4 and see if that did better, but I'd really rather not have him install all his apps again. So my question is this....
Is there an SBC kernel out there for the LG Ally?
Bump
Is LG Ally really that dead? SOmebody has to know something....
All the LG Ally development I have seen is over at Android Forums ht tp://androidforums.com/lg-ally/
I realize that this phone is as new as it gets in this day and age, so the number of ROMS and kernels available to us are very limited (in number and extra features). I been waiting on getting root since i got the phone on the 27th, hoping to be able to flash a good kernel to set some OC/UC profiles.
So am just wondering what have ppl done with their phones once they got root on it (given they dont want to trip their counter)
so far there is only one ROM out there for us
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751595
anything else?
I feel your pain as I'm in the same boat. It sucks that one of the international i9300 ROM devs couldn't help out. I am going to attempt to try my luck at building my own ROM and twrp 2.0 touch recoveries. Wish me luck

I have searched high and low about information regarding any custom roms for the Samsung Illusion (verizon) and Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) for a while now. I know there is a root for it finally, but can anybody more knowledgable than myself help a) get the stock base image for the device as this would be a great starting place for basic tweaks, and b) develop a CM7 or perhaps CM9 based rom for this device? I know its not a high end phone by any means but it is a very capable phone for the price and fact that it runs on Straight talks no contract Verizon network. I don't know how to develop a rom at all but I am having rom flashing withdrawals after getting rid of my old Optimus V which had many customs ROMS including CM9/ICS. If any developer could help out with this I know many people including myself would be very grateful
we already have a stock base for the proclaim and are working on a new Rom for it, http:/androidarea51.com

I got in contact with somebody that does custom roms for phones and this is what he said: "I might to if I get more requests..."
If you would like a custom rom for The Samsung Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) as I am pertaining to ICS 4.0 (Google Android OS), then request it through this website: http://www.roms-db.com/contact/
He will only take requests through this form of contact/request form!
I hope that this helped everyone in this forum and those like me that are helpless with this phone on XDA Developers!!

I sent a request asking for and ICS rom like CM9. Thanks. Let's hope more people are interested as well

I've very interested in some roms for this phone as well. It is my first android phone, I've already got it rooted but I would love to have ICS or CM9 on it. I think it would improve my battery life substantially.
Curious to know how development has come with this phone? I'll be picking one up on the 23rd and I bought one already for my husband yesterday. We are in the process of switching from Verizon to StraightTalk. (Gotta save money anywhere we can in this crappy economy)
All I know is that it is not the best phone that I had from Straight Talk, but it is the only smartphone through Verizon

This isn't the only Verizon smartphone that Straight Talk has. In my local walmart they also carry an LG with a slide out keyboard, 3.2" touch screen and 800mhz processor. I purchased one and it seems to get better battery life than the proclaim. I got the proclaim one week and the LG wasn't there, but when I returned it was on the shelf next to it. I haven't been able to find it on their website yet though.
LG Phone?!

Does the LG phone have the Qwerty Slide Keyboard along with a Touchscreen? Is it a SmartPhone??
Just wondering if that is the same phone that I saw on Straight Talk for my area...
Thanks,

Yes slide out keyboard, with a touch screen, and its running android version 2.3.x i think. Its just lower than the version that the Proclaim is running which is 2.3.6

This is the phone you speak of..
LG OPTIMUS ZIP (L75C)
But yea, so guess still nothing on an ICS rom for Proclaim?
I have heard nothing yet as for the ics rom goes...

don't buy the zip over the proclaim!!! The ZIP has half the memory and you can only install a few apps before having run out of space (I have the Proclaim while my sister-in-law bought the ZIP). She wishes she would have gone with the Proclaim.
I'm also interested in custom ROMs for the Proclaim but don't see it happening...I still haven't rooted as some people are saying they have issues with wifi hotspot after rooting.
I can use FoxFi now without rooting for wifi hotspot.
updates?
Any updates on ANY roms for sch s720c? Somebody help! Lol
Root First?
While we're all waiting patiently for some roms... has anyone found a root method that DOES NOT disable the functionality of USB drive?
From what I've read, the root methods so far work, with the exception that afterwards, when you plug in your phone, it shows up as a CDROM drive.

Ive rooted my proclaim i dont really have a problem with the usb issue i just unmount my sd card and use the adapter to copy files. This article hxxp://androidforums.com/incredible-tips-tricks/305261-sd-card-shows-up-cd-drive-fixed.html seems helpful i havent got around to trying it. Big thanks to all the members on android forums.

I know that this is the wrong place to ask this...But, this is the only place that I know on xda developers that talks about the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim...Why does my screen all of a sudden not stay on while charging? There is also an option missing to keep the screen on/awake...

So, two nights ago, when I bricked my LG Optimus Regard, I flashed the wrong rom to it. I found the right rom after a day of crawling the LG Website. After flashing the incorrect one, then the right one, I noticed, my Processor is clocked at 1.5Ghz instead of 1.2,
The reason why I am posting this, is to see if there is any demand for an overclock guide for this new device. If there is, I will change this thread to that.
The change appears to not only be stable but permanent
This seems rather interesting, even though i dont have the same phone. Could you post or pm me the method you used and whether it can be modified to be used on other phones?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I dont think it could be utilized on other devices ramnex, the venerability appears in two phones that are almost identical.
You see, the rom I mistakingly flashed to my phone was for the LG-MS770 whereas my phone is the LG-LW770 (Almost exactly the same phone, as such the drivers are the same) LG Released an Update for the MS-770 which either intentionally or unintentionally overclocked the MS-770 from 1.2Ghz to 1.5. When I flashed the MS-770 and then flashed the LW-770 rom the change was kept and everything else works just fine.
I might be able to help you find an exploid that may do the same thing for your GT-I9100?

cool! Well, write your story, so maybe it could be useful for someone. Write it even if no one asked you to do so... Help people! No need for them asking to you! But be careful, because it seems to me that you only had a bit of luck, and in guides you should never tell to people to flash incorrect rom, because they might end to brick their device...
Part of this exploit is temporarally bricking the device to unbrick it using official LG tools
