[Q]Export a widget from Stock and import Custom Rom - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using an S2 and what I really hate to lose when I change into a custom ROM is its calendar widget. So is it possible if I revert back to stock rom and extract that widget to be used in a custom ROM?

Yes, you can. Just flash a Stock ROM, root the phone and install Root Explorer and Link2SD. Open Link2SD, look for the Calendar app and see the directory.Take note of it. Then, open Root Explorer and go to the directory you found on Link2SD, always is /system/app, but it can be different. Copy to your SD Card, flash the new ROM, Root the phone again and install Root Explorer. Now go to the same folder and paste the Calendar apk and do a restore.
OK?

I was thinking of using a single backup app. Something like backing up that particular app through app manager(using a backup app) and install it once I flash to custom rom. But im not sure whether it is compatible or not.
I'll try your method and will post up whether it works or not. Thanks^^

You can install Titanium Backup and catch the backup from Calendar App. Just do it!

I suggest you install the stock rom then titanium backup you can found it in the market then open it you need root acces then search for calendrier and make a backup once finished swich to the custom rom and reinstall titanium buckup and find the calendier and restore it

[Q] Download Manager for Market

Are you wanting this so you can install all apps at once after you wipe or install a new rom?
Use Appbrain.

Yes you are right.I know i can use titantium backup. But i could use it only when i have all aps installed.
If i don't have the apps, i have to choose and download it, one by one. You know what i mean ? It would be easier, if i have a list of apps that this "app" download all and install it for me.

Hmm...
You know if you use Titanium Backup you can restore all apps to the rom you are running at that point in time. I backed up all of my apps just now on CM Nightly #177, wiped all data, flashed a Sense rom, and the restored all of my apps back with a batch restore. I may be misunderstanding your post, and please forgive me if I am, but this works for me.
Also, I could point you in the direction of a tool where you could create your own update.zip. The tool allows you to create a zip containing all of the apps you use and then flash it after a you install a new rom.
Hope this helps. Forgive me if I misunderstood.

1.) I didn't know it was possible to do a batch restore?!
I've gotta look into that.
It would be a time-saver!
2.) Would you share that information? I have the same apps that I restore with every new ROM flash.
Would this only restore the apk? or apk + data, like Titanium does?!

I can't remember if the the batch restore is part of the paid version or not. I think you can batch restore in the free version but it isn't as automated. It is still a lot quicker than doing them one by one though.
Just open TB > Menu > Batch > Select the appropriate method
Here is the thread for for the tool I was talking about. regaw_leinad created it. Not sure about being able to restore app+data but off the top of my head I don't think you can.
Hope this helps!

Villain Rom - Back up and restore

Hi
I am about to install Villain rom 2.1 onto my GS2. As per instructions, I have backed up using the app that got installed by the cf root called CWM.
I would lose all my setting etc when I install the rom right? If I want to get it back while keeping the villain rom do i restore from CWM. And will this keep the root and the custom rom.??
Thanks. Please help. ASAP
Yes you will lose your settings, and app data, if you want to save it, use titanium backup and backup user Apps and data.
You can restore anything in white or green, but items in red will most likely cause problems
The backup you made is a nandroid backup which if you restore you will restore your whole old rom.
As far as root, cf root will auto root, and villainrom is rooted so you can just install the superuser app from the market.

You mean on the homescreens etc? Depending on the launcher, you can try backing up twlauncher and restoring it after you flash, but it may not work, so take a nandroid backup before you try.

[Q] backup / safe stock swype (e.g. as .apk)?

hi there,
I just searched the forum and couldn't find something...
is it possible to backup my existing stock-swype (for example as .apk) so that I can use it later on with e.g. CM7...?
I know that there's a swype beta, but this has an expiration date and I would like to continue to use my stock swype e.g. in CM7...
thank you very much...
Use something like Titanium Backup (IF YOU ARE ROOTED) and you can backup System apps.

ah, okay... didn't know, that swype easily is just a system-app. but that's nice.
so when I back it up via Titanium Backup, will I get an .apk, which I can use to install swype e.g. in CM7? will it work there?
If you back it up with Titanium you can restore it to any ROM you are using. Just restore the app and not the settings.
Other way is to go into system/app and copy the swype app and save it somewhere then you can install it by placing it in system/app of your new ROM and rebooting.

sounds promising! thank you!
On a side note titanium backup will most likely create a zip with your swipe apk in it if I remember correctly.

Getting Swype to work with some roms can be a pain in the arse. I recommend SlideIt from Market if you come across a rom which doesn't work with Swype easily. I've tested this with 4 different roms & it works perfectly with each, no dramas with install, no FC's. $6 well spent.

Why not the settings?
How do you generally know to restore with or without the settings?

So i should just directly delete the apk from the /system/app folder?
You should backup the folder on sdcard first
...Xperia neo...KA ICS 21.1...Suave v6...
Titanium backup is probably the easiest way to do it.
