I swear at one point I was able to look at a list of recent searches I in Google maps but for the life of me I can't find it. All I can find is location history and when I pull it up it brings up a permission screen to enable it and it doesn't sound like the list of recent searches I want.

doesn't the recent search list show up when you go in to do a new search?
Where? Can you direct me from if I'm just starting the app where I'd find this list? When I pull up a search for directions from my current location there is nothing underneath the two entry fields and when I select one the keyboard pops up. When I begin to type something it brings up suggestions but this is by no means a list of recent searches and it isn't even sorted by what's searched most.

For me, when I open the app, then click in the search bar so I can type something in, the previously searched items appear in a list below the search bar.
@OP,
What version of GMaps are you running?
Mine is 6.8.0 and soon as I open the app, tap on the very first tab in the lower left bar, to bring up Search, it lists at least my last 3 searches.

This seems pretty cool. Basically it lets you search for a contact or (anything else) on your phone by writing the letter on the screen but it lets you access the "Gesture Search" by flipping your phone away and then back. I have installed it and it's indexing my contact list but in my preliminary messing around it seems to work. Check it out.

EDIT: Ok... The actual "flip" to start the program doesn't seem to work for me but the Gesture Search is still cool (starting it with the icon). Maybe they will fix it up for the Vibrant soon.
When I'm in portrait mode in the google navigation app, select 'type destination' and type a number, a road, a town, etc, the drop down list of places that normally appears which is linked to what I type, doesn't appear. And there's nothing to click on to begin the route calculation, so what I typed just sits there doing nothing. There's only a 'go' button in landscape mode.
But if I go to the google maps app and type a destination, the drop down box appears no problem. Then if I go back to the navigation app and start typing again, now the drop down box appears there too. Weird. I shouldn't have to go to maps app first then navigation app to get my search working in navigation, so can I fix it?
Anyone please?
I'm sure I've had that issue before and after entering a destination I had to tap the search symbol iirc. I dont have the issue now so I'm guessing it could be a mismatch of maps and nav versions or maybe something else but an update must've fixed it.
Are both maps and nav updated?
Edit: just realised nav is part of maps perhaps try reinstalling.

The search symbol disappears once I start typing. Well I found maps on google play. I then disabled maps on the phone which made navigation disappear from my apps drawer. I then installed maps from google play. This turns out to be a later version of maps and it's updated the navigation, because now there's a black UI to it which looks nicer than the white UI. In fact, the first time I ever installed ICS via my carrier's android 4.0.3 update, navigation had the black UI but after my first factory reset, navigation had gone back to the white UI.
But still the same issue is there. The search boxes in both maps and navigation are the same, so I don't get why the drop down box only works when first using maps before going to navigation. There's definitely something not right. I wish there was a way to completely uninstall maps and navigation and reinstall.
I've already factory reset this phone (with ICS) three times so I'm not sure if going through it all again will fix it. When I was on gingerbread this problem didn't occur. I like various features of ICS, but it's given me issues, not just the satnav, that I never had with gingerbread.
Don't know what may be causing the issue with your go button sorry. The search drop down doesn't work for me either as you described. If you open maps and then change it to navigation using the drop down on the top left the search works, I guess they're working towards having everything accessible from the maps app and the navigation shortcut will be removed.

That works great, thank you. I didn't notice the tab in maps that drops that box down. Search works perfectly from there when it takes me to navigation.
What I'm going to try and do now is replace the boring maps icon in my go launcher dock with the navigation blue arrow. I've got launcher pro still installed which has the blue arrow icon in the apps drawer. (In go launcher, it's changed and looks like the maps icon). If I use desk migrate app, can I import that blue arrow from the apps drawer to go launcher?
No problem, sorry I can't help with the desk migrate app but here's the nav icons from the app if it makes it any easier for you.

That's great, I can save those and use as a custom icon to replace mine. Thanks!
I have just jumped into my first ICS rom and one thing I noticed I can not figure out is the new Google Voice Search. On any GB Rom I used, I was able to place a short cut from the draw to my home screen, a simple 1x1 icon. Now that is taken away and the only real option is the 4x1 Good Search bar. I just want a simple 1x1 icon to start just the voice search, not launch the whole Search app with keyboard. Any idea.
I know, I have tried many of the other "Personal Assistant" programs but for simple sending a text, email or requesting to make a call, I have had better luck with the Google Voice Search app. It is simpler and does what I need without trying to have a conversation with me or trying to let me know what else it can do over and over again.
I just took and added the shortcut to my homescreen, and and it works. I think you can long press the search key, and and it works as well. Am I missing something here? I am on Chingy's new effing ics rom. Are you on stock, and or a mod? More info, and I might be able to help.

I am on Cleanrom DE 1.4 and I do not see an option of adding a single icon short cut. This is where my confusion is coming from.
If you have voice search in your app drawer, just long press, and drop it on your home screen. Hope I am helping, and not completely off of what you are asking....

If you don't have it in your app drawer, install it from the market!
Just search for "voice search"
After that, the widget will work and voice text recognition is back.
It is installed, I can place the 4x1 full Google Search box on my home screens, but I do not show Voice Search listed in my apps, though in the market it is up to date and installed. I just can not seem to get a single 1x1 icon set on the home screen to activate the voice search... scratching my head on this one.
Sorry to bump an old thread but I miss the 1x1 widget in GB also.
Any solution?
Doesn't press and hold of search button work for anyone?
Ok so this might be to dumb to alot but I can not seem to find the settings or more specifically the "my apps" int eh google play store app. The only option I really have is the magnifying glass for the search feature. If i clear the data and cache then when i upgrade again it shows me them but obv I don't want to have to do that everytime. Anyone else know how to find the my apps in the app?
For me, My Apps only shows up when on the Play Store home page or when viewing the Apps section of the store. It shows up in the menu next to the magnifying glass. If I'm viewing music or books, then it shows "My Music" or "My Books" instead.
Mine doesn't even do that...Also besides first finding the picture and then clicking share and selecting the gmail app...Does anyone know if there is a way to add an attachment to your email from inside the gmail app? I've tried to longpress to see if maybe that would bring up some options but it does nothing. Kinda frustrating all in all.
That's really weird about your Play Store "My Apps" not showing up. As for Gmail, when you're composing the email, tap the menu in the upper right then select "Attach File".
I don't even have a menu button at the top right

You have to be "composing" an email first. Then you will see 3 little dots at top left of screen

Question is, can someone modify the apk as below???
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-enable-voice-prompt-in-search-results-video/
Turns out, there's a secret flag within Search that lets you use the hotword, set by default to 'Google,' anywhere in search results instead of just the home Activity. By default, Search will let you say "Google" to activate voice input only in the main Search screen, after which you'd have to tap the Back button in order to use it again. It's nice, but it's not very fluid, as you have to keep touching your device.
The secret flag enables it in search results, so you can perform search after search after search without ever touching your phone or tablet.
As for the technical details, the flag is located in res/values/bools and is called hotword_from_results. To activate it, one would flip it from false to true, like so:
<bool name="hotword_from_results">true</bool>
