[Q] Music Mixing on Android - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I joined XDA because I needed to ask this question, then watched the noob video and wondered if I should ask this. However i've spent hours researching both this forum and others and there are no answers I can find.
I have an HTC Evo 3D and I love it. I've done some relatively professional live sound mixing in the past (32 channel in recording plus live sound), however would love to have something mobile.
My HTC is much more powerful then the first computer i started recording on so it only makes sense (in my little brain) that it should be able to record better.
What I would like is 4-8 channels USB into my phone, that can record simultaneous. or even one decent USB mic, I know i have hosting capabilities, just no software to tell me what these thing are.
i Havn't rooted yet but am willing to root, and go the whole nine yards (except sell out to apple, they're dead to me) are there any roms that do this sort of thing, any apps? anything in development?
Thanks so much for the help

Contacts Picture Quality

Right then, who else has noticed this? I'm presuming its an issue with the sync?
My contacts are stored with Googlemail and are set to sync, which is good as it saves me manually doing it and I usually change business contacts details so its nice that it updates on its own.
I link the contacts to facebook, pictures come over, look perfect (well, alright).
Later on, the pictures look awful and I'm presuming its because they are sent to Google and then sent back to the phone in a lower quality.
There were similar issues with the Touch HD syncing with Outlook and nobody found a way around it, anyone got any suggestions?
Nobody else noticing that their contacts pictures are really poor quality? Is it just me having this issue?

Me too...
No you are not alone.
Not alone
You are not alone, I presume that there is some kind of loss in the sync to make it work faster, I havnt seen any setting to make it lossless.
When I saved a picture from facebook and added it manually the was no loss in quality.
So until there is some kind of app out I guess you will just have to manually add the pictures if you cant live with the quality.
I sync with Outlook and its the same.
I do remember when i had a HTC Touch Diamond that was the same. The way you cured the problem was to take a photo with your phone to use as a contact picture and then it was full quality. To be honest not tried it with the Hero yet maybe a task for today for me..
Same problem here.
Hope they solve it in a future update.
Its the same with me, on my Diamond I created small high quality pics for my contacts & even with these the quality is crap.
On a side note is anybody else thinking that XDA Developers isn't the place for us & our hero handsets? I'm feeling a little bit unloved

People are only just getting their Hero's so this will get going soon. Its the same when any new devices come out, just takes time.
We have root already, TP2 doesn't have HardSPL yet and thats been out months.

I'm not sure I understood half of what you just said. What are Root, TP2 & HardSPL?

haha, ok...
Root gives you access to all of your phone and should allow you to flash new roms onto your phone.
HardSPL is used on phones and if you have hardspl, again, you can flash new roms.
TP2 is the Touch Pro 2, just another phone.
Basically I was trying to say the phone is new out, and usually when they are it takes a while for people to come over to them, but they do eventually. When more and more people come on board, there will be a lot more support.

i don't think it wll be long before the chefs start cooking here for us
You know what I think I need to make a retaction & clarify how I feel about the XDA Developers site & the hero. Both the comments of nicelad_uk & liamhere are totally spot on & it was silly of me to expect the amount of expert knowledge on the hero that I enjoyed with my previous winmo devices.
I realise now that this could be my time to shine & put something back into this community instead of just taking like I was accustomed to before. Now obviously its been established that my knowledge is a bit lax on the software but where I can help I will & hopefully the increase traffic & hel will bring more people to this part of the forum.

I've just read what I've written & although it WREAKS OF CHEESE I'm leaving it up because when you get past the cheese its pretty much true. Corny but true.
almost forgot thanks for the clarifications nicelad_uk, you really are a, er, nice lad

Haha, trust me, if you asked my girlfriend, she would say the opposite!
I started putting back into the community with my Touch Pro 2, recreating a theme which I loved on my Diamond but wasn't available, it was a good feeling.
Now I'm making apps for Android, nothing big, just getting used to it and trying different things.
And no problem with the help, we all try to help and its good to see a mod using these devices too, other people will follow shortly, when they see the light
Contacts Image quality
I have the same bad images quality in contact also. Even when i had my Touch HD. I sync with Outlook and even set the contact photo from the phone but when a call comes in or is made to the contact its all blurry. Any ideas?

That warms my cockles, does that! I feel just the same so I'm trying to help where I can (Not totally altruistic, just its summer break and I have time on my hands)
On the point of poor quality pics in the call window, I think what is happening is that the fone is grabbing the little Thumbnail created for the contacts, not the original pic. The thumbnail then looks like Sh** in the big call window.
Not a solution but could be a reason.

This issue is usually to do with the Sync, its been a common problem with Syncing with Outlook and google from Windows Mobile Devices. I posted a comment about poor picture quality on Google's forums and one of their development team said they would look into it, that was nearly 3 months ago though.
Can't think of anyway round it! Very annoying though. Auto Sync off for me I think.
I think everyone should go to the google forums and reply to this thread...

Make them aware we are noticing these issues!
hey mates, i think so to,when the people gets their hands on this wunderfull device, the development will be started ... mine arrives in 3 days ... cant wait for it ....
Anyone found a fix for this problem???

[Q] Holographic Like interface app

1st off I have looked through the forums and none that are active projects come near this to my knowledge, so if I missed it, I preemptivly apologize.
So I have been oogling this for months since I watched Iron Man 2 back in november and have been messing around with app developer and theme creators to try and make a few variations of this thing work.
This is my first post so it won't let me post a picture of what im talking about.
So.... if you head to concept-phones.com and search for "iron man". You will see what I mean.
Now Im not looking for the point and click and take over a monitor thing (though that would be awesome) im looking for the sleek design of the graphics rendered.
At first i thought it would be for the normal apps, not very practical with a screen like the droid 2 has, maybe for the xoom, but not the D2Global.
Then I thought maybe just a file manager with a sleek look.
I have tried many variations and it makes me go crazy. Then my upstairs neighbor flooded thier apt and fried my computer, so all my work is now gone.
So I ask for help. Seasoned programmers of themes can you help me with ideas/an app that took 10 minutes for you to make that makes me feel both happy and emasculated. I am happy to answer any questions and my aim SN is on my profile. I also answer emails often.
Thanks

[Q] Android Phone ?'s

Greetings
I have a few perhaps off-the-wall questions (though maybe not, I don't know).
First off, I am an iPhone user (currently), but prior to my 3GS I did have an original Moto Droid (switched carriers so my wife could get an iPhone). My next upgrade (and hers) is coming up. I know she wants a new iPhone so she and the kids can Facetime with her mother. There are other programs that can do the same thing, but her mother is not tech-inclined so Facetime is the best option for her. Me, on the other hand...I'm not sure yet.
I remember back then that there was at least 1 program that let me sync to the Droid using iTunes, though it didn't work very well. Can anyone tell me the name of the program and does it work better now? Drag and Drop is always an option, but if iTunes is open, it might be easier.
The second question is a bigger one. Currently I plug my iPhone into a usb cable running from my car CD Player which both charges the phone and plays whatever I'm listening through directly through the stereo in the car. Is this something that I can readily adapt to Android? I would prefer not having to buy extra cables or anything like that to get the same functionality.
That brings me to my last question. During my commute (1 hr each way, 5 days a week) I mostly listen to audiobooks. All but one of these I have created myself by taking a book in mp3 format, converting it to m4a using iTunes, then changing the extension to m4b. This works perfectly. They show up in the audiobook section and until recently (5.0 update, I think) I could stop an audiobook, listen to actual music, then continue the audiobook right where I left off. That could be more related to the book being marked as listened to, though.
Does Android have an audio player that will play these books in this format? I don't want to reconvert them, and I don't want to have multiple copies of the same book taking up space (not much, but still) on my file server. If Android does have this, does said player also play chaptered/possibly drm'd audiobooks purchased through iTunes/Audible?
These are questions I would really need answered before I made the leap back to Android. I love the platform, and am currently rediscovering that love with my Nook Tablet; but there are some things that I am unwilling to compromise on with a phone when I know there is an alternative out there that works the way I want it to.
Those are some of the longest questions I have read in a while...
My advice: spend time researching instead of writing novel-like questions.

Your post was totally unnecessary. The guy has legit concerns and he has every right come here and ask the experts.

While I appreciate your opinion, as the poster below you said: they are legit concerns.
Personally, I would rather read long but well thought out questions than a bunch of short questions that are answered quickly, but don't completely satisfy the anticipated or desired result.
I have been away from Android phones for some time now. Like any computing technology, things change; and the longer you're away the more things are different than when you left.
I have researched, but haven't found answers that completely satisfy what I'm looking for. That's why I asked the questions I did.
Apparently Mortplayer has an Audiobook version that is supposed to work, though I have no idea if it will. I haven't tried it.
And the answer to my usb playing question seems to be a resounding no. I would be forced to use 2 things: a usb charger and an aux input to the headphone jack. Not as all-in-one as I had hoped. Bummer.

New from the IOS world

Howdy folks,
I used to be very active with the HP touchpad shenanigans so I'm not a complete noob but I'm certainly out of the loop. This is my first android phone though and I have ten days for my love to blossom with it. I really want to like it but as I assume all IOS losers say, android is mighty overwhelming! Still, I've spent the past couple days lurking the forums and am fully rooted so my questions probably won't be the most stupid you've ever heard.
Anyone out there want to take a bit of time on skype and give me a rundown about what they like, cool tricks, their favorite app options, where the unicorns are, and such?
If you do well I'll order silvermine to your house or something and if my questions are the stupidest you've ever heard I'll even throw in a brownie.... I also promise to wear pants, no weird chat roulette bogus
what do you want to know? the beauty of android is the endless possibilities of tweaking and customization but it will take some time to master and find whats out there.

Mainly I just want to ask opinions about common things, I know better than to ask "what is the best launcher" but I'd like to have a verbal (IRC isn't my favorite) conversation about their various advantages with someone who has tried most of them in the past few months. I've read so much about all these questions but finding up to date info is exhausting since Android has so much history. I've spent the last two hours just researching music syncing but most comparisons are at least a year old so I end up cross referencing complaints with change logs to see what has been fixed, but that's a slow way to learn...
My main questions probably fall into these categories which I'll keep updated, if anyone simply wants to wildly throw out their opinions below rather than taking me up on a chat feel free!
Merits of various ways to sync music with itunes or WM player, preferably where I can control the bitrate - Went with tunesync, feedback?
Merits of various launchers and UI tweaks - Grabbed Apex before I realized it would cost me blinkfeed which I want to give a chance, none of my reading warned me that launchers would replace that...
Merits of various keyboards - Swiftkey is so hot, so hot right now, so I grabbed it. Won't sync with my facebook though, typical?
Merits of various roms/merits of tmobile bloatware - Trying stock rom/kernal for now but I hate all the extra apps I can't get rid of. Tomorrow I'll look for a "poof" app before investigating kernals more and we'll see what roms are available when I'm bored with stock, MIUI looks awesome but very distant for an official release
Tricks for typing one handed on large screens - littering and...?
What spiffy things could I do/What has really wowed you - Droidsheep has been fun, what else is out there?
If you were a starving college student who had 20$ left in his budget after buying a 600$ phone what apps would you start with? - I've spent that 20 and a bit of next weeks food budget too, but I'm always taking suggestions.
Friends on hackforums have given me interesting apps with "questionable uses", any other forums(besides here) where it would be worth building some rep? - Still hunting.
I rooted my phone and my cat threw up on the rug, should I expect my cat to do that every time I re-root and should I just get a parrot? Looking into rooting parrots out of cats, missing SU...
Perhaps most important, since I loathe the power button position, it would be a new kernal which would add swipe to wake, right? Like the blackberry trick where swiping from one side of the bezel to another wakes up the phone. I want that like fat kids want acceptance...
The usual noob questions but wrapped into a conversation with someone who has the time to try a lot of the latest updates so we can go off on tangents and I can absorb as much of your wisdom as possible

is there android "user training" for the elderly?

my mom is a self proclaimed "not a computer person" and being that I don't live that close to her I really struggle to help her with basic tasks over the phone let alone train her how to use her phone. On top of that, she liked my phone (nexus 6p) so much that she just bought one and is even more confused than ever because the UI is different than her old galaxy s4.
Are there any training classes I can send her to? She is not a self learner, nor can she learn from watching a video (i've tried), she actually needs someone to show her and walk her through it multiple times with repetition.
