[Q] Any i717 roms allow LTE disable? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have an issue where the spotty LTE in my area seemingly messes up all my connectivity (voice, sms, data). I am able to make emergency calls only at times. I am currently ruling out my SIM card, but a Bell employee pointed me in another direction; my LTE service. She told me that LTE is spotty in my area, and that the Note constantly switching from LTE to HSPA will eventually cause the Note to crap out, losing all connectivity. She said enabling HSPA/GSM only in the mobile networks settings fixes the problem. My ICS rom does not have this ability. I am using the HYFER OnlyOne rom right now.
By the searching I have done it seems that allowing HSPA but disabling LTE is common on GB roms (I know it was possible on my stock Bell rom).
Question: Are there ICS roms on here that will allow me to disable LTE data only? I would like one that has S-pen and S-Note support if possible.

You can disable Lte by going yo your phone dialer and dial *#2263#, click on WCDMA Band, then WCDMA All. This will give you HSPA data only. To switch back to LTe, click on Automatic, and reboot phone. This should work on all custom roms.

Thanks pterry. Will save that post fr when I need it.
Team Perfection has the option in their Objection rom (rc 3). Looks like I have two methods to do this now so its appreciated.

would be nice to have a simple toggle, like i had on sprint phones

CM9 has a toggle. Not sure if it works, though, as I don't have LTE in my area.

Will disabling LTE when not in a LTE area conserve battery?

I was too hasty as you noticed; there is an option to switch it, but if you reboot the phone it goes back to the auto-LTE mode.
Good in a pinch, but not the solution I was hoping for.
The dialer method gave me spotty data for some reason...I have reverted to the stock GB rom for now and enabled the auto gsm/hspa option to help troubleshoot.

What carrier are you with

When you disable lte in the keypad or dialer, do not use the back key, use the home button to get out of the dialer. I was reading somewhere in the forum this helps with poor internet connection.

This might be the issue. I was finding that it would still eventually connect to LTE anyways (possibly after a reboot).
I am in Ajax, a suburb of Toronto on Bell...signal is usually great here. I poorly worded my last post..I am not getting spotty HSPA reception, but my connectivity issue was intermittent.
The stock GB rom I have now has worked great for connectivity since I enabled SSM/HSPA only. I might do a nandroid and pop the perfection rom on again and try your suggestion as In liked that rom more than the GB one.
Thanks again!

What modem are you using? I am using LE2 ics modem here in Kitchener. Maybe try another modem, that might reslove your problems

Juts got the Perfection rom again. I had Hyfer as well, but I like the ICS theme and lock screen on the Perfection (I believe they both use the same modem).
Going to try the dialer method now on this rom. I never lost a data connection with the GB rom/gsm/hspa auto mode, so that is encouraging.

If you are an Att phone I dont believe there is any 100% surefire way to turn LTE off because those phones are RAT locked. I have been able to temporaruly turn if off like in the Saurom rom which was cool because I myself are in a bad LTE area. Then the problem become that when I actually used the phone to talk the battery would drop really fast. A 10 minute call would waste 5% of my battery. So i am just hoping that a better modem driver will increase my reception. I hope this helps a little.

if one is on straight talk does one have to disable LTE? Or is it off by default?

You could delete the LTE apn and just use one for 3G. There should be different apns for it

There is a note that the ICS dialer does not work with the *#2263# code. The stock dialer, however, does work.

Baseband and Aokp rom question

hello,
i'm using baseband i77uckh7 with this rom. i've noticed that i'm bouncing back from 3g to 4g. should i update my baseband to an ics baseband and if so which one? also, is there a way to flash the baseband without tripping off the flash counter? thanks.
please read before posting threads like these, in short, no it isn't necessary

well, hmm thanks .. but didnt see it mentioned in the roms thread so ya i did read
What rom are you on? If your seeing it bounce its probably because its showing correctly. It will be on 3G but when you start to use data it jumps to 4G (H+).
its supposed to be like that. if you ran H+ all the time you would have a dead battery in no time. its goes down to 3G until you actually use whatever it is that needs data. who needs H+ when they're not actually using their data anyways?

Curious as to what you're looking for specifically. I really wanted to stick with CM10 but I've found the following issues which have me looking elsewhere:
- Doesn't properly connect / Switch Wireless Access Points with the same SSID (doesn't seem to know to grab the one with the best signal strength like other ROMS do)
- Doesn't work with LTE for me, in fact if I don't disable LTE networking it will try to connect to LTE but never connect and leave data disabled instead of falling back to 3g
- Google Wallet doesn't work (I know this is Google's doing).
- Camera doesn't seem to focus properly or work as well as with stock or FreshROM. Even when i touch focus it won't focus properly all the time.
- No panoramic mode for cam but you can do burst
I LOVE the performance and feel of the ROM but I need my data access to work properly.... I also love the updates and staying on top of them.
Anyone know of the best alternative to CM 10 that's JB, good on updates and works properly?
Have you tried the newest cm10? I'm using it at a place right now where I Dont usually get connection. Seems to work great for me... even better than sense... even with lte.

So I managed to fix the LTE issue by reflashing and NOT choosing the option from Titanium backup to restore my old Android ID - for whatever reasons this breaks LTE for me and probably anyone else.
Is there a way to compile your Titanium Backup into a flashable .zip + restore data and launcher data?
Multi BSSID is still a problem for me (moving between APs with the same BSSID).

[Q] Internation Base ROMs+ Network Extender

I have noticed that any ROMs based on the international base have a problem with putting my Note II into roaming whenever I am connected to my network extender at home. Any ROMs built on the Verizon base work just fine. My question is: can I backup my modem settings with TWRP, flash a ROM built on the international base and then restore the modem as the last step to get around this issue?
Sorry if this is a noob question, but I am new to Android and custom ROMs.

The modem stays with every flash until you flash a new one, you don't have to worry about it. As for what you want to do I don't think it would matter about the Network Extender, everything you would need would be built in to the international Roms on our forums, but I'm not 100% sure as I've never came across this before.

Well sting as how the modem carries over no matter what you flash then you wouldn't have a problem there. How does the extender work? Do you connect like WiFi or does the phone automatically pick it up or do you have a special app? I don't think you'd have assn issue as long as you stayed on TW but AOSP you may depending on how the extender works.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
The network extender connects to a home wireless network so you are basically doing VOIP when connected to it. There is no app to use, the phone automatically uses the extender when it is available.

Then it should work with any ROM.
The only thing I have found is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108887
The only time problems were experienced was on AOSP, and that was only due to a leaked modem that probably wasn't optimized yet, so I would bet you won't have any issues

Thanks for the link. That is pretty much exactly what happens for me with any AOSP/International base ROM. I am guessing that network extenders are a Verizon/US only device and perhaps that explains why only Verizon based ROMs properly recognize the extender. The extender itself actually works and my phone calls properly get routed through the extender. The phone however is always on roaming when connected to the extender, so if data roaming for example is turned off things get a little difficult. It isn't a huge deal really, it just keeps me from using some of the more interesting AOSP type ROMs that are available.

(Q) no LTE 4.3+ Roms?

Hey everybody quick issue I've been having for a month or so. I can't get 4g working, I disable WiFi and it gives me 3g. I had this issue on paranoid android, and assumed it would go away when I flashed PAC man ROM however it still remains. I popped my Sim card into my old gnex and that gets working 4g. My network mode is CMDA+LTE/EVDO.
Thanks in advance

Firat step would be flash a touchwiz rom, or restore to stock, to see if you get 4g.

Data and WiFi problems on KitKat roms

I have been on several KitKat ROMs and have the same problems with all of them. I am not able to connect to any WiFi network. I can see them but when try to connect it just goes to saved ...or out of range. Also I have to constantly turn airplane mode on and off because I lose data. I have signal but can't connect. I did see this mentioned somewhere but can't remember where. I have started from scratch and it does seem to affect only KitKat ROMs. Does anyone else have a this problem. Currently on paranoid but I was on beanstalk before.

You tried CM11?
No...but aren't the others based on CM? I know someone said KitKat doesn't play nice with some routers. But shouldn't it connect to something? I can't think of the Evo 4g LTE ROM thread where the op mentioned toggling airplane mode. But I think something about the RIL was mentioned.

All except Omni. But sometimes the CM ROMs posted on the forum have some fixes that might not have made it to the other builds.
I assume you're on the new partition layout?
Yes I am. I will try to install cm or omni. I know these problems were mentioned by other users here with no clear answer. Last post on the carbon thread the user asked if the update fixed the data issues. I might have to go back to sense. When I get data back, my pebble blows up to catch all the missed notifications.

FWIW the only KitKat Rom that gave me reliable data was the latest Dirty Unicorn release. I started having some issues with random freezes/reboots so I switched to the Capt's newest 4.3 update, but DU was the only 4.4 Rom that worked for me data-wise. Don't know if you tried it already or not, but wanted to mention it just in case.
It seems omni works great data wise. But no KK ROM has reliable WiFi for me. Thanks for the reply. I may try dirty unicorn.

I used to have the WiFi connection problems too, earlier on in KitKat development. Since updating to the new partition, I have not encountered it on any ROMs I've flashed.

Very well could be a hardware issue, especially since the problem has persisted throughout the latest update.

The part I really don't understand is, if it's a problem with her WiFi antenna...why are surrounding networks showing up when she turns her WiFi on? They show up and when she connects, they come up as "not in range". I actually think this same problem is affecting her ability to tether.

LTE Connectivity?
Has anyone been able to have LTE connectivity with a kitkat rom? If yes, which one? I've tried DU 4.4, the screen it showed "LTE", but there was no connectivity with the data.
Has anyone determined where the APNS file is located on the stock sense ROM? One idea suggested is to try to copy the stock APNS file, and copy to the KitKat rom, I've tried to use some APN backup programs, but they do not seem to function properly in the Sense environment.

I've been running the latest PAC Rom builds (old partitions still, haven't taken the time to update to the new) for about a week or so and haven't had any LTE issues. It still has the roaming bug (says roaming but it's not), but connecting to LTE and pulling down 15+ Mbps here in Chicagoland.
Not all of the nightlies would boot for me, but I've had success with the 3/5 and the 3/10. Worth checking out, not too different than DU when you download the Google Now Launcher, just missing Halo.
just wanted to say, I've been running a CM11 nightly for about a month now [2/11/14 I believe], and I've had wifi issues, probably about 3 times. The issue was it wouldn't connect to wifi at all, it would either show no networks in range or not connect when I tell it to.
A simple reboot fixed the issue for me though, that's why I haven't bothered to update my ROM yet [I will, if there is a milestone or stable release, otherwise I might stick with this nightly for some months--just because I hate to restore all my apps and settings, quite bothersome and I don't have the time anymore to mess with that kind of stuff as I used to]. edit: wait I ust remembered that someone told me you can dirty flash nightlies. can anybody tell me if dirty flashing a recent nightly over a month+ old rom is alright? or will it cause issues? from what I remember, if the build number is the same [e.x. 4.4.2] then it will probably be fine [unless stated you cannot dirty flash in the changelog, but I don't have time to read all 30+ changelogs]
gl trying to figure the issue out though!
