Hi!
I want to get rid off some apks (see title) with titanium backup.
The problem is, that those apks are listed as service, so titanium backup only backups data and not the app itself. So there is no way to restore?
Is there a way to restore these pre- installed apps after deletion (maybe I change my mind ).

I'm sure Layar is avalible on the market, so is the CarHome. LG App advisor is crap so you can forget about it.
Copy the apk from /system/app. You can do this by mounting the system partition as read and write, then cp the apks to your sd card
So there is nothing other than the apk?
Why does titanium backup delete these apks without backing them up?

By the way, I haven't tried this yet with a ROM that hasn't been deodexed. Backup both (.apk & .odex) just to be sure if you're in a stock rom.
Regarding titanium backup, I have no idea. I backed something up and uninstalled. When I tried to restore, it won't. The option is grayed out

BTW: First attempt to restore stock rom (if I saw that titanium backup did not backup LG's "services" it was too late ) went bad (the phone stayed in "emergency mode")- that just increased my heart rate . The second attempt (without LG's modem drivers) went well

Good luck with the stock ROM restoration Btw, I just want to suggest that you don't use KDZ flasher to restore to stock firmware. If you already have a custom recovery installed, just flash another ROM over the one you want to replace.

What do you mean? If you mean flashing the KDZ from the custom recovery, I don't think you can.

Sorry about that. How I talk/write can be confusing at times xD But yes, you can install the stock ROM with custom recovery, just not the .kdz file. From that KDZ file you can create a zip to flash using custom recovery.
I think the main reason why people revert to stock firmware (ROM + stock recovery) is because they have to take it to a service center and they still have their warranty. Or if they badly need the factory stuff xD

I can't be the only one who thinks the TouchWiz apps suck (particularly the SMS app). Is there a way to replace them with the stock ICS ones?
I'd rather keep TouchWiz for now until other ROMs become more stable, so flashing another ROM with the stock apps wouldn't be ideal. Could I simply root and replace the TouchWiz .apk from the system app folder and replace with the ICS .apk and re-boot?
Could I also use this method to remove all the included bloat (chatON etc)?
Finally, if I root my S3 is there a way to un-root it in order to get it repaired under warranty?

Yes, I hate the stock messaging app, which is why after I rooted, I installed GO SMS Pro and then froze the stock messaging with Titanium Backup (don't uninstall it, just freeze it).
I'm sure there's a way to replace them with stock ICS ones, it's just a case of finding out how :3.
If you install Omega v5.0 the Aroma Installer Script actually asks you what bloatware you want on your phone and again if you have Titanium Backup you can also remove any junk left over (like Game Hub).
And yes, you can un-root or leave root and try your luck with Triangle-Away from CF.
EDIT: If you want to manually remove junkware, be sure to have a nandroid backup just incase you remove something you shouldn't.

If you install the Omega play store app, there's a simple and fairly automated option to replace the samsung sms app with the stock one.

Pretty much the whole point of XDA is about custom ROM's what makes you think that just because everything is working now on stock that it won't be on a custom ROM, custom ROM's are undoubtedly far better than stock for the most part but it's your phone so entirely up to you just some friendly advice

I have had my Galaxy S II for about a year now, and i am thinking about rooting it and installing Cyanogenmod on it, but i need some info about the proccess: First of all: What happens when you root your phone? Is you data/apps deleted or is it safe?
Second: What about when i flash Cyanogenmod? Is my data/apps safe there or do i need to redownload the apps and backup my stuff?
Third: If i root my phone and do not flash a new ROM, will it be just as hard for me to update the firmware as on a jailbroken iOS device?
And lastly: I have heard about Titanium Backup, what does it backup? The OS, the apps and/or the data? These are the questions i need answered before starting the rooting proccess

The process is a little different depending on the device but basicly a super user binary and SU app are installed on your device, this will not (in most cases) effect your data or apps.
When you flash a new ROM like cyanogenmod you will loss your data and apps yes so you will need to redownload/reinstall them backing up using a app like titanium backup is recommended.
In most cases if you root your phone it will not be any harder to update the firmware however after the update you will loss root, and often the hacks used to install SU and a custom recovery get fixed in newer updates, so its normally recommend not to update through the official process but to flash a modified version of the update normally found in the XDA forum for the device, these modified versions will have super user etc preinstalled so they cant be lost during the update.
Titanium Backup backs up your apps and there data (so when you reinstalled them with Titanium Backup it will be just how you left it)

if your upgrading the same ROM to a newer version for example if you where on CM9 version 1.0 and updated to 1.1 you will likely not have to no, however the developer will post if the update requires a wipe, as some large updates do need a clean install.
If your going from one ROM to another than you will need to wipe yes

Hi, I got myself an android phone 5 days ago and i want to learn how to use it properly so i search everything about androids phone and i think this is the best site among other sites to post this question.
1)Transferring SD partition
At first, i didn't know what is root and after learning it, i rooted my phone cause it required in order to increase my memory. I recently bought i new one which is 32GB and i already partition it(using minitool partition wizard) and i was wondering how to transfer all my installed data , phone data and my previous SD to my new one. If i simply copy paste it how about my installed app on my phone? will it cause my app to stop working? if i use titanium back up,can you show me step by step how to use it.
2)Rom manager or Goomanager (custom ROM)
I heard a lot of people saying "Do not use it","too dangerous,too risky","might brick your phone" (i don't even get it, you'll just have to follow the instruction or procedure right?)
-stock Rom and custom Rom
what so different about them? (i know for the fact that custom Rom updates quickly)but i need more information.
-what makes you want to install custom Rom, is it worth it?

root concept is a little difficult to understand (and to explain) to anybody that never used Linux before. To put it simple, root means that you have administrator privileges, so you can do anything you desire (even break your phone very easily ).
I dunno if a plain copy can works with the ETX partition, but you can do this: Move your apps to your phone again, disable Link2SD, put your new SD, enable Link2SD and move all to the EXT partition.
If I misunderstood this, and you don't have partitioned your actual SD, forget that I said before. Copy all from the old SD to the new one, there aren't problems at all.
I don't recommend to use Titanium Backup if you're installing a completely different ROM, since it can cause problems (if you're reinstalling your actual ROM, is OK to use it).
Custom ROM advantages:
quick updates, as you said.
lightweight, only few apps will be installed (without the bunch of crap that carriers or manufacturers usually add).
faster than stock, mostly cases.
Many features that stock ROM doesn't have (depends of ROM and the developer).
You should choose your ROM wisely, since not all ROMs are enough stable and can cause weird problems (as forced closes, slow down the phone, random reboots...). If you're unsure, try the popular ones and choose one.
Titanium backup doesn't make a clone of your phone, only the apps and its data. As I said before, I don't recommend to use it if you're moving to another ROM (you can try to install the app as usual, and only restore its data using Titanium Backup, it's better than restore app+data).

what ways can can your phone be brick? so that i could avoid it.

And why do you need to expand memory?
1. Transferring data to SD card is not only copy paste them. Not that simple.. U have to use an application that able to move data to SD safely without problem. If the data u wanted to move is like Pictures, Music, Video then it could be done by a simple copy paste.
2. Stock ROM and Custom ROM is two different things. Basically stock ROM is the one that officially has been tested its compatibility to phones which means it is safe to use it. While Custom ROMs are different. Not all of Custom ROMs are tested and u use it by ur own risk. It is true that by using custom ROM could improve ur phone because basically the Custom ROM was maded by other people that wanted to improve what Stock ROM didn't have. Custom ROM could harm ur phone if it is not used in a right way or that the ROM doesn't match ur phone.
3. Clockworkmod Recovery and Titanium backup are basically a similar app. They both meant to backup ur data. The thing is, clockwork use to backup ur ROM in case u want to change ur current ROM and maybe u want it back again. While Titanium usually used for backup ur phone's application and data such as apps, ur phone setting, ur contacts, etc.
4. I have some apps that I can suggests to u as a basic apps for rooted users.
- ROM toolbox Pro. It help u to improve ur ROM in working.

when i bought samsung(rooted), i got free huawei ascend y210d (y210-200) yet to be rooted though(thats why iam asking about sd partition in advance), when i use poot.akp from this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204259.

1. Move your installed apps by using link2sd, or u can also move it by using ROM toolbox. only the installed apps that u thinks u should move. for Video, Music, Pictures, etc. u can move them by a simple 'cut' 'paste' method.
3. Yup, remember to backup all ur data first in Titanium before u download n install new ROM..
I did a factory reset on my phone yesterday and decided to really clear out a bunch of stuff with titanium that I never use, including widgets. I deleted the stock clock app thinking it was a widget. Does anyone know where I can find that? I'm open to a different app but I'm quite happy with the stock JB clock app.

I haven't tried that because some of the bloat I deleted previously (Yahoo, some other stuff) was gone this reset.
also there are 2 other ways to get it back
flash stock Rom and you will lose root
flash custom Rom
also next time i suggest doing a backup via CWM

Factory reset won't replace any deleted files. All it does is delete user data and downloaded apps, and makes all settings to default.
Flashing the same rom on top of your rom will replace missing files and put back all the apps you deleted.
I suggest you use Titanium to freeze any unwanted things, then run a few days like that, then eventually delete the frozen apps.
I am on Telus and when I want to revert back to stock with all the bloat (well not quite all the bloat) I simply flash the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268617

The dropbox clock downloads but doesn't install. Permissions are correct.
did you try installing like normal apk or did you place in system/app? should place in system/app. both clock.apk and odex.apk
Like normal? I'm afraid I don't know how to do the second one.
using a file manager that has root access(i use root exploerer but there are lots) move the apks that you downloaded into system/app folder. then long press the file until you get menu to come up and select set permissions. should be rw-r--r--. change if not. then reboot.
