Where in the stock rom is the boot animation? I've done some exploring but can't seem to find it.
Just found it, lol.

Can we change boot animations w/o S-OFF?

Yes bootanimations can be changed without S-OFF.
Splash screens can also be changed by following the link below.

why are you trying to do it through recovery?
get a root explorer. System/customize/resource sprints in in there its named. Sprint_bootanimation.zip back it up delete it from there. drop other in and rename it to that. just did it no issues.

Is there anyway to changed the initial HTC boot screen colors? I've been flashing a lot of files and had to reboot a few times and the screen is really bright every time it reboots.
Search for spalsh screen replacement.
The jist is you have to do it from
fastboot with a PC86IMG.zip

Same method of flashing like the Hero. Flashed through fastboot or bootloader. If through bootloader you need the android-info.txt and splash1.nb0 zipped in a folder named whatever your device is.

Does anyone know where the splash screen file or image is located? I'm trying to experiment to see if I can change it cuz the blinding HTC splash is horrible. I've been looking through all the files with root explorer, and there are hundreds, but I'm not seeing it so far.
Just curious if any one knows where it is?

you can swap the boot animation but not the splash screen atm, its an issue of not having s-off.

Ya I've located the boot anim, so basically without s-off there's no way to change that huh? I was thinking, locate the image and then replace it ha ha. Not that simple I guess then.

You can change your boot animation by replacing the "bootanimation.zip" file with a boot anim of your choice. However, you cannot change the splash screen which is the white screen with the HTC when you first turn on your phone, at least not until we get S-OFF.
Also, its more than just one image. Its a series of images played back using a desc.txt file all put into one .zip file. (im going off of memory and the file could be called something else.)
An Invisible location called S-Off
I just got a used, white HTC EVO 3D off of eBay, and it already been rooted and flashed with a custom ROM (no s-off though, as its hboot 1.5).
I flashed clockworkmod using the fastboot method, but it never goes into recovery. The Rom boots fine, its just when it goes into recovery, I get the white HTC screen, and then it reboots and goes into android. I've turned off fast boot in the settings, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

If you pull the battery and put it back, then go to hboot and select recovery and it doesn't go to recovery, then your recovery is corrupt or something, no biggie. Get flash image GUI and flash a recovery with it, or flash cwm with rom manager.
I used to have issues with certain recoveries when I had s-on, I think cwm version 4.0.1.4 was the one that worked for me.
Have you tried 4ext recovery? Link is in my Sig.
Well I have ROM manager and tried cwm 4.1.0.15 and got the same results.
Would 4ext work with any of the ics roms for the HTC EVO 3d?

Yes it will. I use 4ext and am running ZREDX ICS.
Alright, that worked. Thanks for the help!

I flashed a landscape rosie via clockworks, now my phone will not boot past the splash screen. When I start it it make it to that point and just stays there. I can boot to recovery but it doesnt show anything when I go to sub menus.
Thanks
Are you S-OFF?
Install TWRP. Get rid of ClockworkMod.
yeah s-off
I wanted to install TWRP img but there was no exe file in the folder (other than the abd file) I downloaded. When I executed the adb file it ran so fast that I couldnt read it and then it closed.
You should be able to install twrp through the bootloader seeing that your s-off. Govtovtheir website and download it.
