Flashing/rooting problems and how you solved it! - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
seeing there's so many flash and root Q's i'de love to bundle evryones problems and how you solved em in 1 thread.
can go from not reading/understanding the guides to just about anything really.
heres mine,
* running FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec and giving me a "drivers" error message
- went to the unzipped map of flashtool/drivers and installed em on my PC
* not detecting my phone after downgrading loader/kernel
- rebooting my PC worked
* in most guides after the rooting step it told me to reboot phone and reselect usb debugging and allowing non-market apps to be installed but its stuck on SE logo (even said this could take up to 5 min but it just wouldnt reboot)
- case of misunderstanding i suppose , what i was supposed to be doing and what worked after rooting is selecting the flash upgrade. take out battery. unplug phone. reconnect phone. hold back button. insert battery while still holding back button.
* not rebooting after flash upgrade (stuck at SE logo)
- forgot to unplug my phone before turning it back on (while still running flastool dont know if this matters or not)
think thats about all my problems i had while rooting/flashing the phone
hope this helps someone out there!

Help

Hello,
I’m new user owner of Atrix with unlocked bootloader and from yesterday after root of the phone I met following problems:
The phone can’t be recognized by PC and can’t be charged, after each restart the phone automatically going to Clockwork Mod recovery and this is repeated each time when I reboot or start the phone. Even after restoring my phone from restore point before root this issue was not solved.
The only way that I can use the phone is when after restart holding the volume down button and choosing “BP HW Diag & Boot AP” but in this case, I cannot charge my phone and connect to PC.
Did some body else meet this problem and how can be solved.
Thanks in advance for your help.

[Q] [HELP] Have I hard-bricked my brand new Xperia Z2?

Okay, I'm not sure exactly what you'll need to know to help, so I'll just tell you what I think is important....
Current situation:
- If I boot the phone normally it freezes at the SONY screen and goes no further.
- If I attempt to boot into recovery mode, it loads the CWM screen (logo in the middle with instructions at bottom), but no actual menu or options. After about 5 seconds, this screen disappears, the phone reboots and then gets stuck on the SONY screen.
- If I connect the phone to the computer in Flashmode Flashtool recognizes it as being connected, but regardless of what I do, after about 2mins the phone reboots, loses connection with the computer, and freezes on the SONY screen as before mentioned.
- If I connect the phone to the computer normally while stuck on the SONY screen, the PC recognizes it though doesn't allow me to do anything to it, and Flashtool says I need to install drivers (I have installed every driver that comes with Flashtool).
How I got here:
- I've rooted the phone
- I've flashed Z2_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-438-v05
- I've unlocked the bootloader (via Flashtool)
- I've installed [Rom][Unofficial]Slim Rom 4.4.4 based on CM11.0, ROM for the Sony Xperia Z2
The phone was okay up until this point, however I wasn't happy with the ROM so I tried to reboot into recovery mode to wipe and install Carbon. This is when the trouble began.
Now it seems I can't do anything :/
Please help. This phone is literally 3 days and it looks like I've completely screwed it >.<
Thanks!
How to recover your device from almost any kind of brick
Requirements
Check the pinned sites
Flashtool
FTF of choice for your device
2 Rubber bands (I am serious but only if your device has no response)
Step1
unplug your device from anything
open flashtool on your pc
plug your cable into your PC
do not plug the cable into your device
Step2
Hold your power button and your volume up button at the same time
your device should buzz 3 times
(this should take a few secconds)
if it does not take a few seconds then you need to put a rubber band around your device holding your power button and your volume up button, DO NOT LEAVE MORE THAN IT NEEDS TO BE LEFT, wait patiently for your device to buzz 3 times
Step 3
once your device has buzzed 3 times you are free to flash a FTF as your device is powered off
step4
if you dont know how to flash a FTF but have gotten as far as installing flashtool,Z2 drivers and downloading a FTF FOR YOUR DEVICE... then folow this step
within your flashtool window click on the lightning icon at the top left
select flashmode
navigate to where you downloaded your FTF (OR put your FTF in your /flashtool/firmwares folder)
select your FTF
Flashtool should give you a prompt to plug in your device
hold volume down and plug in your device
step5
wait for it to finish flashing
step6
your device is now recovered, enjoy...

You didn't unlock your bootloader?
Isn't Carbon ROM AOSP?
If it is, it needs an unlocked bootloader or it will get bricked

Okay I used to get into this kind of situation when I used HTC One, and what I did is try to flash recovery and unlocked bootloader again "using command".
And problem has solved. I think it is pretty much same for Xperia Z2, (ftf flashing method is not useful in this situation.)
I hope you know how to flash custom recovery using command. If not I think there is some thread that explains how to flash recovery and unlock the bootloader using command, if you can't find it plz let me know. Hope you have recovered phone next time I check this thread. Good luck mate :good:

@Envious_Data: Bro, thank you so much for that. I my z2 have only 1 day, and i god damn it bricket, that even screen wasn't working. So for other people who had bad luck: first I rooted using Community Rootkit, then unlocked bootloader, and at the end I flashed via fastboot boot.img which one i extracted from zip file from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702001. Command prompt showed that it works. I rebooted phone sony logo showed up, but then disappeared, and then was crying and sorrow. Three years of rooting, flashing without any problem, and now that. Thank you one more time, that's a great lesson
I do have some advice for people
1. Try to find help threads for your device, i have one for Z2 that gives some useful info, ill be adding more soon
2. Once you have got the jist of flashing then try to expand on that, i do recomend roms first because its harder to brick from a rom than a kernel or a non stock based rom such as CM11 or AOSP
3. Always keep a stock flashable rom (kernel too if you have a unlocked bootloader) on your device

A hard brick is by definition not recoverable by the user, requiring either special equipment ie jtag or RMA to fix.
I am quite surprised, and intrigued, at people flashing cm or AOSP on a two day old phone, was Sony experience that awful? You'd maybe be better served with a nexus device.

True friend, but I had an Xperia MT11i (Neo V) and all (fastboot, flashtool, CM, etc) was always no problem.
I've taken today for service (with CM11 (and cm kernel)) and see what happens ...
@Unbalanced I don't think your Z2 Hardbricked, if it were not ignite. Luck
Hi all, if it helps I did the same thing last night. Flashed CM11 without a recovery and wanted to revert back to my nandroid backup. I flashed doomloards kernal via fastboot. CWM started with no menu and just bootlooped. I then thought it may be a CWM issue, maybe no file structure or something. I flashed XZDuelKernal via fastboot and booted into CWM again and experienced the same issue. As this is a duel recovery, I then booted into TWRP. Recovery started and I was able to flash another zip then recover my nandroid backup. If you get this menu issue with CWM,try and flash a TWRP recovery and boot into that.
Also, as mentioned before, this is not a hard brick. It's just incompatible software and is easily fixed if you know what you are doing and prepared (nandroid backup, knowledge about fastboot and flashmode, ftf, recovery, unlocked bootloader).

Stuck
Hi.
I believe (although I'm not sure) that I have bricked my Xperia Z2 in some way. When I press the 'power' button, the phone vibrates once and does nothing. I have tried to hold the 'power on' and 'volume up' buttons for a long time (half an hour with rubber bands), and nothing happens (as explained earlier in the thread).
I believe I am able to access the fastboot though, through 'Terminal' app on OSX. From there I can " ./fastboot devices " and get confirmation that they have loaded. I am also able to perform other tasks from here, such as flashing a recovery and " fastboot erase system -w " (which I believe may have got me to where I am now). I've been following things on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
I have no experience in rooting or flashing, but attempted to flash a custom ROM because there were step by step instructions.
Anyway, I firstly used Sony's rooting procedure whereby an unlock code is generated etc. Eventually I gained access to the Recovery mode (via clockwork), and wiped the phone, installed the ROMAur zip and GApps zip. However, when I booted, it kept giving me warnings saying the apps were crashing. I've since gotten lost completely and need someone to help bail me out.
I'm hoping I can sort things out via the fastboot.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply Mario. I did just that (using Kuwait FFT for the D6503), and everything appears to be back to normal. Unfortunately I still have not got root access and can't remove the bloatware. As for the bricking issue however, it's solved. Thanks.

[SOLVED] Boot looped LG D120g. Only download mode and --useless-- factory reset

SOLVED
I've been able to debrick the phone! It's difficult to reproduce the steps, but it goes something like this:
- Being that the phone rebooted by itself [with battery on] the flashing process could never be completed successfully. So I noticed that the phone kept powered on when the battery was removed and it was connected to the micro USB. So I used LG Flash Tool 2014, and as soon as the process started (after selecting the KDZ file > CSE Flash > START > OK) I connected the phone, with the battery removed. The process started and had a
"Connection to Server failed. Try again in a moment."

error, which I ignored, so the flashing process went on background. Then it said there was an error and give me the option to retry. I did. The process started again, reaching 99%. Then the phone restarted and the perennial "Download mode" was gone! The Android with a charging bar below appeared. I put back the battery on the phone and after a few reboots more it was back on KitKat :victory:
Hope this helps someone else in the future. It made me sweat
____________
Hi. I've a LG L30 Sporty, also known as LG D120g. I've been using the phone and a day, three weeks ago, I had the brilliant idea of trying to flash Injector with Flashify.
The phone was rooted, running stock Android 4.4.2 and without any other issues. I have never been able to use the stock recovery (except for factory reset) because strangely the font exceeds the screen limits and the menu is illegible.
Now, the reason because I say it's "hard bricked" is because, at the moment, the only two things which the phone can do is freezing on download mode, and "factory hard reset" with VOL. DOWN + POWER BUTTON, and the POWER BUTTON once. The factory hard reset is confirmed, and only returns the phone, without rebooting, to the download mode.
I have tried ADB and LG Bridge, but none of them detect the phone. I've two firmware: D120AR10B_00.kdz and D120G10A.kdz. But (only tried once) now the phone is in a boot loop! It cycles every 40 seconds, taking with the dark screen to boot (or reboot) and 20 in download mode.
Well, any ideas? I've given up, but now my father could use the phone and I thought of asking around.
Firstly it is not HARD-BRICK
Its is just boot-loop aka (soft-brick)
Now its solution
1-USB Drivers (your device)
2-LG Flash tool / KDZ Updater
3-Stock ROM (other necessary file).
Try flashing it with stock ROM, and still your having boot-loop Don't worry do a factory reset and than good to go.

First of all, thanks for your quick response.
I don't know if it's relevant, but the phone is effectively rebooting every 40 seconds. Can a firmware be flashed like that?
Anyway I've tried. The flashing process reachs the third stage, the one with the phone and the up arrow when the software extraction in progress completes, and then there are 2 dead-ends: 1) A window which says
Connection to server failed.
Try again in a moment.

And when I close it, I disconnect the phone and remove the battery, press VOL. UP and connect and put the battery on, and the phone starts again and I click "Retry". LG Flashing Tools says "Verifying phone connection..." and then "S/W Upgrade is in progress", but it never goes beyond %11. I believe that it is because of the boot loop =/
If I could only stop it...
Post your question here, some expert might help you.

I'm giving it a bump. Just once.
Any idea? I'll try anything (I think I had already, but maybe...)
NEWS:
On fastboot I can't list the device on it, or at least I couldn't yet. I've, however, noticed that the phone is detected by the computer.
When it's on download mode there are 3 new devices: 1) USB Composite Device 2) LGE AndroidNet USB Modem 3) LGE AndroidNet USB Serial port (COM13)
I've stabilized the reboot cycle by taking the battery out when connected to the computer. Somehow the USB cable seems to power the phone independently from the battery circuit.

Stuck in bootloop Neffos X1. No recovery mode.

Hello community,
I haven't posted here before, so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong.
I have a problem with my Neffos X1 and after browsing the internet for hours nothing helped so far, so I hope some of you can help me out.
My phone is stuck in a bootloop since yesterday evening. I haven't done any updates or new installations recently, so it just happened out of the blue. It loads till the Neffos logo and then restarts over and over again.
Since I can't take the battery out, I tried letting it run out of energy and then restart, but as soon as I connect it to a power source the bootloop will start again.
I read a lot about getting it in recovery mode or to try and flash it, but no matter what combination of buttons I try, nothing is happening. The phone basically doesn't react to anything and just keeps restarting. The only thing I noticed is, that when pushing both volume keys the screen will just stay black (no restarting), but after letting go the bootloop will start again.
I tried flashing it via SP Flash Tools, but the phone also doesn't react to it.
Lots of troubleshooting guides also require, that I have rooted my phone in the past, unfortunatly I haven't. I also read about unlocking the bootloader, but since my phone isn't reacting to any buttons and my laptop also doesn't seem to recognize my phone (probably because it doesn't boot proberly), that doesn't seem like a solution either.
To summarize: I'm stuck in a bootloop with no recovery mode, no rooting, no unlocking bootloader, probably can only use my laptop to do anything remotely.
So, is there anything you can think of, that might help me get out of the bootloop? Or ideas of what I may did wrong when trying the other solutions?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Same problem
I have the same problem, I have tried all kinds of soft reset and nothing is working I also opened the phone to check if anything was not connected properly, but everything seems fine except for that infinite loop. Please help!

Try this
Download phone's Stock Firmware onto your personal computer.
Install the USB MTK Drivers - NOT ANY OTHERS (skip if you have them already installed).
Download and Launch the Smart Phone Flash Tool (SP Flash Tool)
Click the Scatter-loading button to navigate to the Stock Rom you just downloaded.
Select the Scatter File from the extracted Stock Firmware on your computer.
Select the Download Only in the SP flash tool option
Click the Download button to start the Formating process.
Connect your phone via USB to the computer>> holding volume + and volume – button of your phone at the same time or holding power button only so that the flashing process will starting working
Patiently wait for your device to be formatted.
After the formatting is done, a Big Green button will pop up on the SP Flash to show that.
Unplug phone and boot it up.
If you have a boot loop after booting your device, boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Voila, you are all good.

[Guide] Things that could go wrong while modding

Hi all,
This is a brief guide on what are some things that could go wrong if you decide to flash a new ROM especially GSI as they are quite buggy at the time of writing this post. I'll try to mention as many issues as I can but if something remains, please feel free to write them in the reply.
The guide is aimed for complete beginners who were trying to flash something and are now stuck OR who just want to know what to be prepared for and not to panic. if you are experienced you might not need it but it might just help you with something.
also, as always, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS.
So let's start with the most common problem. Bootloops!
1 - Bootloops :
What happens? : The title is pretty self-explanatory. You know you are in a bootloop if your phone turns off automatically as soon as it turned on. This generally happens BEFORE the phone actually boots up i.e. in the booting screen but could also happen after the phone completely turned on. There are various causes for this it may be due to a bug in the ROM or missing system files.
How to fix? : If you are flashing a custom ROM then you may want to reboot back to TWRP, wipe and flash it again. It works sometimes if there was an issue with the files.
I am unable to reboot to TWRP my phone is stuck even long pressing the power button does not shut it down! :crying::crying: : well if you are stuck you don't actually need to open the back panel to remove the battery or wait for it to die those won't help. all you need to do is wait for the phone to turn off and IMMEDIATELY press and hold the VOLUME UP and POWER button that should get you into TWRP if that doesn't work then you can try pressing and holding the VOLUME UP + DOWN + POWER key as the phone is about to turn on. it might boot you into download mode. if that does not work as well then as the phone is about to turn on, press and hold VOLUME UP + DOWN and plug the phone into PC that will get you booted into download mode eventually. Once you have access to one of these you can continue doing whatever you were doing. To reset everything back to normal (stock, like a new phone) checkout the solution listed below.
2 - I was doing something and now my phone is stuck at charging mode :
What happens? : This has happened to me while flashing PHH GSI. My phone was plugged into the charger and I restarted the phone. turns out it was a fatal mistake for the bugged gsi. The phone now only showed a battery icon that was charging very similar to the one that you would see if your phone is out of battery and you put it to charge. This happens before the phone actually turns on. usually, once you unplug the charger the phone automatically restarts but in my case it didn't. It was stuck at that screen with no way out.
How to fix? : turns out it's pretty easy, it might seem like its doing NOTHING, not responding to power buttons or anything but internally it is. Surprisingly, if you press and hold the VOL UP + DOWN + plug it into the PC it would get you into the download mode.
3 - I flashed GSI and ... :
What happens? : There are MANY things that can go wrong with GSI if you are a beginner I would suggest you stay away from GSI until it supports the device better. For me, I flashed PHH gsi and it went smoothly I booted in but as soon as I was finishing the setup adding fingerprint the ROM went into bootloop. you know how to fix this now. if nothing works, just refer to the reset solution listed below.
4 - "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock" :
What happens? : This usually (at least with me) happens when you are trying to flash something but forget to flash the DmVerity thing. The phone won't turn on and going to download mode will throw you with a line saying FRP lock.
How to fix? : At this point, trying to install custom binaries with Odin probably won't help as for me it simply stated that you cant install custom binaries only Samsung official updates are allowed or something similar. There might be a better/easy solution to this but I found doing a stock reset with Odin worked great. It is given below refer to that.
5 - Phone is in "Emergency firmware recovery" Mode :
What happens? : Turning on the phone throws you into a cyan screen saying that your phone needs emergency firmware recovery which can be done using Samsung smart switch
How to fix? : I believe it is a fantasy way of Samsung saying that your phone is almost dead and nothing remains on it. Fear not, turns out that cyan screen is actually the download mode. so that's a win you don't even have to boot to download mode just connect your phone to pc odin and follow the reset to stock firmware as mentioned below.
6 - I am back in some OS but my internal memory is shortened!!!
What happens? : well you are in the os you wanted but if you check the storage it appears to be shortened. i.e. if your phone has 64gb internal memory it might appear as 30gb or 20gb.
How to fix? : This is a problem caused by missing PIT file in odin. I would not suggest you to manually download the PIT file from somewhere and flash it using odin because doing so got me stuck in the FRP LOCK (4th) situation. I would suggest that you flash the stock firmware using the method given below.
MASTER SOLUTION/RESET TO STOCK FIRMWARE: if you are new to modding I would suggest that you download the stock firmware files from here BEFORE doing anything as the files exceed more than 3GB in size and not everyone has fast internet. if anything goes wrong and you have access to download mode you can follow this and get everything back to stock. Download the stock file AFH given at the link. once you download the stock firmware you just need to extract it and put the respective files in odin and begin flash. it will RESET everything and make it a new phone. I've tried this method and it works always for me.
That concludes my guide. if anyone knows any better solutions to these problems or think I've written something wrong please feel free to correct me. I've faced all of these issues back to back when I tried flashing a GSI and was able to fix all of them so this is just my personal experience.
Lastly, don't panic if something happens wrong happens there is probably a way to fix it.
Depends on many things, but now that we have a working TWRP, life is much easier, and also we have kitchen tools which help as well.
