Merge with samsung account - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was messing with some settings in my contact list and clicked on merge with Samsung, once I did this it put a small Samsung logo next to all my contacts but I then tried to remove the link and remove the logo but couldn't .
Anyone know how to remove link with Samsung ? Also what does linking it do ? I have checked my account I setup with Samsung and theirs no mention of contacts I thought it might export all my contacts to a list on my Samsung account.

[Q] Contacts and Google Sync on Vibrant?

Quick question about the way the Vibrant syncs with google:
Every time I add a new contact on my phone, it asks if I want to store to phone, or gmail, and every time i click phone assuming that it would automatically sync with gmail periodically.
Is this not the case!??! I installed a new rom recently and it wiped the phone, and the whole time I was thinkin "o well, it'll resync when I link my account" ... after the rom installation, i noticed that few new phone #s weren't there.
Does that mean every time I add a new number I should always save it to my google account instead of directly on the phone?
And for contacts that are stored on the phone, they appear with a green phone logo next to the contact in the list. Those linked with google appear with a black box and a white "g" inside. How do I convert those stored on my phone to link with google? Do I go "edit" --> "link contact"?
Update:
For contacts that are "google" contacts, they can't be categorized into groups on my vibrant either, because they aren't recognized. Only contacts that I've recently added into the phone are recognized. Is there some trick that I'm not aware of?
I second this question. I used a G1 previously and this new method is extremely confusing.
I currently have NO "contacts" and ONLY google contacts, which means apparently I can't set up any groups because my phone doesn't know who my contacts are!

slick, you bring up another point I wanted to ask about as well! Thanks!
I'm going to amend that into the OP
bump...?
I find it amazing that people have figured out how to turn these phones into toasters, rocketships, nuclear-war-launch-devices and other errata, but haven't figured out how to store contacts correctly...

I always make my contacts google, works good for flashing as much as I do, and also if you upgrade your phone in the future, as long as it is android it will automatically put all your contacts in their for you. If you dont want to do that, there is a paid app called mybackup pro that will backup contacts. But I do suggest that you always use google to save time in the future.
You can link contacts, but all it does is make it so it does not show up as a duplicate contact on your list, your best bet is to log into gmail, go to contacts and add them from there. then you can hit menu and filter what shows in your contact list(facebook/twitter/google). You can add them to google from the phone, but I prefer to add them from gmail or google voice, as i can type faster on my computer.

I recently reflashed a rom and I checked and found out some of my contacts were missing. I checked my gmail contacts and it's there. I checked to sync all my contacts on my phone but it doesn't show up on my phone. I didn't have a problem with my first flash with the rom. How can I resync the missing contacts back to my phone? Thanks!
Yeah...this is definitely one of the worst changes made to Android by the Samsung TouchWiz interface. I had a G1 also, and really liked not having to worry about phone/sim/google contacts. I just want contacts that are always in sync no matter where I go. This is the one thing that will push me to go AOSP once somebody releases a decent rom. As far a I know, no custom ROMs have gotten contacts to be anything other than TW.

[Q] Duplicate contact issue!!

Hello guys,
Last week I changed my phone from htc GENE to Samasung galaxy ACE S5830. During backup I sent all of my contacts from my GENE to ACE via bluetooth (called as Beam contacts in htc). I don't know how but the process sent each contact 3 times. I successfully received each contact but now each contact is having 3 "joined" contacts.
I want to separate each of them and delete all the duplicate ones. I search whole market but no luck. The duplicate contact remover even failed to detect these contacts! And manually separating each contact is really not a good option since having more than 500 contacts and all are important!
I shall be highly obliged if anyone can help me!!
attached the screen shots:
I had a similar problem a while back...couldn't find anything on it. Had to go through and delete duplicates and re-sync with google.
Sent from my AmeriCan NANDroid HD2
You can solve your problem at http://contacts.google.com
You can merge your duplicate contacts there or even add or delete if you sync your google contacts to your phone or vice versa.

Samsung-acount - why ?

Samsung Galaxy S2
When I look under "Settings" - "Accounts and sync" I have an account called "Samsung-account". It is not an account I have created and are therefore incomprehensible how it got there and what purpose it has - someone who can help?
Maybe you need it to log in when you use Kies air or if you want to use the Samsung tool to find the phone when it's lost or stolen.
I don't think it does anything important (strange that it's there although you didn't do anything, can you delete it or does it just want you to set up the Samsung account?

Store to Google Contacts Not Available

The option to save a contact to Gmail/Google Contacts is not available on the People/Contact app on the phone.

Google Contacts also does not show up in the phone. I do have a Google Account added. The sync appears to complete successfully and contacts are in "My Contacts" on Google Contact/Gmail. I do have "Show All Contacts" selected in the People/Contact app but only sim contacts are shown there.

If I tap on “Add new account” in “Store Contact to”, I believe it brings up the add exchange account, which doesn’t work anyways.

I have tried to remove - re add the google contact and factory reset the phone several times with no luck. Also tried adding another google account and it acted same for it. Note that the phone does not present any setup wizard after a factory reset. I have to go to settings to add the google account manually.
Here is my phone info:
Android 4.4.2
Brand: Walton
Model: Primo EF2
(It's a local brand in Bangladesh. They basically re-brand sets from Chaina)

How can I fix the issue and properly sync the contacts with google contact? Thanks in advance.

Contacts keeps merging

Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to 5.5.3, my contacts keeps merging wrongly.
All my contacts are stored on the gmail account.
The phone keeps merging contacts with different phones and different names.
Even after separating the contacts manually, they sometime return to be merged, with a different contact.
Anyone heard of this bug or know how to fix it?
Had the same problem on my Galaxy Fame, running on Android 4.1.2
Any solutions?

Export your correct list of contacts, then delete all your contacts from gmail and phone. make a manual sync of your account, possibly it will tell you that are to manny contacts deleted. log on your account from pc to check if there is no contacts! after that you can import the list exported earlier! or add them one by one in gmail , from a pc. after your can make a sync to see if will not mess up!
You can try first to download Contacts sync fix from playstore , maybe it will fix the problem!
