Okay, so here is what I got. I am running my atrix using nottachtrix. I am running a modified webtop/ubuntu using webtop2sd and I use the lapdock when I'm in
A week ago, I dropped my phone and really messed up the touch screen. I could try and repair it, but I opted to get a shiny brand new phone from my provider.
But I can still use my setup as a netbook. The only problem is that the phone part of my atrix eats a lot of memory. Is there anyway I can cripple or delete the phone partition and still be able to run webtop?
Thanks for any advice you guys got.
Ken
not really, except if you want to set up a whole new linux, so to say, directly on it so that it boots only linux to hdmi. you could try with gentop and a modded init.rc in the boot.img
Yeah I just heard about gentop and was wondering if I could modify the device to do that. I'll look it up! Thanks for the suggestion
I do not think gentop (or any other distro) is going to help. The problem is almost certainly on the droid "side" of the world.
You mighrt see if you can find a way to shut down the phone display (though I presume this will also kill AIW - the "phone" app that runs on webtop).
Or go to a terminal and use top to see who is eating time. Then try nuking that.

Ok Iam pretty stressed out, tried to get the freaking lapdock to work on my atrix for over 2 days of trial and error.. I tried flashing multiple ROMs hoping one of them would make the lapdock work, but nope.
Ok anyways Iam using Darkside 4.2 Full Blurr. I know on the main thread it says that it Does Not Include Webtop. Which is true cause the lapdock just says "No Signal, input: HDMI," then it shows a black screen. Okay so what do I exactly do here?? I know have multiple Webtop files that I tried: Fruitcake ones, a file called "webtop-mod_v1," and a 4gb linux file thingy. Which ones do I use, if not then what should I do? Can anyone kindly instruct me what to do because i just lost hours of sleep and i got sweaty by the stress this thing has caused me. Thanks!

funny q... have you inserted it well... many times i see that screen due to phone not properly mounted in the socket
Hmm still doesn't work. I flashed 2.3.5 webtop through Android recovery, and i think it is connected firmly. I farthest I got was the Motorola icon then that was it.. The HDMI manager thing doesnt show up after that. Let me try rebooting.
EDIT: Nope still doesnt work.. The HDMI manager doesnt even show if I try to connect it to a TV. Going to SBF downgrade.

You're doing something wrong then. No need to sbf though. The way I did it was format everything on the phone, install darkside zip, then install webtop zip.
I'm having the same problem with my lapdock, I feel like I've tried everything. Tell me if you can find a fix for it.
The answer to all your lapdock issues...

All, I've gone through many of the forums here and all I am now is confused. Issue: Had CWM and NVFLASH on and Honeycomb on gtab. Some issues, wanted to go back to stock. Followed instructions; however, now it's in a loop. I cannot get to it via PC. Holding power and volume key, see the 3 birds and "recovery key detected, goes to gtablet screen, goes to screen with a box (arrow in it pointing down) and status bar across bottom, goes to w/tap n tap screen, goes to screen with tnt; then reboots through the process again and again. I've spent the past two weeks going through the internet and reading the various methods to unbrick, none work; because I can't get to the internal SD card.
Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way to use the external micro-SD card? Or do I just need to throw this thing away? Any assistance would be appreciated. Oh, I've tried the Code Red and every other unbricking method I came across.
Thank you in advance, Michael

Since you are only experiencing a cycled boot loop then you are not bricked. There is still hope.
What NVflash file did you use to get back to stock?
Which bootloader do you want to run?

I grabbed the latest one. Basically, I'm almost at the "throw it in the trash" stage. If there is a way to boot from the external SD card to load the stock 1.1 version; that's what I would like to do and give this to my niece. Thank you for replying.
Michael
There is a way to "install clockwork from external SD" - search that phrase and you should find it.
BTW- If you plan on trashing it, I'll pay for shipping to my house. I'll 'throw it away' for you

Well all and all I know your fustration. The first link I beleive you are using is the Stock 1.1 from the 3588 branch. That one I used before and had nothing but issues. The best one to use is from the 4349 branch perfered with CWM pre-installed. After flashing that file shut the Tablet off during boot up. Then boot into recovery mode by holding down the volume + while pressing the power button. Do a Wipe Data Factory reset, Clear Cache, and then under advance Wipe Dalvic Cache then go back to main menu of CWM and reboot device. Make sure you don't select reboot recovery since that will not let you boot into anything but CWM. TNT TabUI will then boot up and you chould be good to go.
Thanks...but
Thanks to everyone. I still can't get this darn thing to connect to the PC or CWM to run. I would love to be able to just put it back to stock and be done with it. The more I work with Android devices, the more I'm convinced that I will stick with Windows or Apple. Android is great, but until there is a one size fits all solution; the tweaking and manipulation one has to do just to increase the functionality is what will be Android's downfall. Nothing is "simple" with Android and unless you're a programmer; there isn't much one can do with it. Partially it is the manufacturer's fault (i.e. Viewsonic) for putting out crap that doesn't even work; part of it is Google for not requiring standards for Android (yeah, no standards are great because one can explore/tweak/etc); and it is my fault (for this instance) for thinking that I could tweak and enhance my system. So, I'll put this thing up on Craigslist and see if I can make some change with it and get a newer device or just stick with a laptop and be done with it. Thanks again everyone for all your help.

Sorry to see that your experience with your newly found failure did not come with a price of knowledge. Truth be sayed I am no programmer, geek or knowledge of script writing either, but what I can pass along to all new-to-android persons is that your best path is to read and follow instructions to the T or you will end up with a expensive paper wait. The web link I posted above is pretty self explained and I give that man credit because I was a newbie too once. Then somewhere in these forums I found that website and was able to recover from just about anything that happened to my poor Gtab. Hell, I even had to drill a hole in the back of the case just because I wanted more and there was ICS from Team DRH. But truth be said that web link is your path and only path to going back to the stock UI and recovery.

I'll buy it. DIBS EVERYONE!
PM me with your info and I'll have the money sent right away.
Even if I couldn't get it to work, I could use it for parts for my current g-tab.
EDIT: Don't mind my post count. I'm very active on SD, just not here.
Just wanted to mention that I have not been PM'd or replied to. Hope this guy got his tab to work.
Hi everyone,
First time poster here, but don't worry I haven't bricked my phone while trying to flash it
Unfortunately, I have a XT910 with a damaged display, I was wondering if anyone has had any ideas that I could implement. My first thought was to try and bypass the need for the screen on the phone via the HDMI out, but it seems you need to select the option for output via HDMI on the phone itself.
-Everything seems to work except for the display
-Device connects to computer and is able to transfer files (suppose I could try and put it into recovery, but I'd be doing it blind)
Thought at the moment is to try and load a rom which would force the use of HDMI out when detected or try and mod it myself (I'm not sure if its possible)
If I dont get any useful help within the next week, first dibs gets free* parts
But most apps are based on touch. How are you going to navigate or are you just trying to get files off of it? You could also get a replacement screen.
I'm in the same situation. Touch works still very well but be aware of smithereens...
Edit: Sorry, wrong thread. I need to go to bed!

Im not looking to use it in a regular phone way, was trying to find if there was a possible way to set it up with more computer-like functionality. Because it still works i should be able to download apps onto it using play.google.com and do it via my computer(for superuser, busybox and terminal)
Because the screen is actually glued to the LCD/digitizer it needs to be replaced as a unit. With is mucho expensive ($220ish) i.e not worth my while. I have other phones that I can use, I was just looking for a new project

without being able to use the screen, I think it's going to useless. You have to touch the screen in order to launch and interact with apps since they are all written with a touch screen in mind.

I have a Droid Razr that had a small accident that left the lcd screen shattered, but the Gorrilla glass intact. I now use this phone with my Lapdock and it works perfectly. My problem is that I have been trying to find a way to upgrade the phone to JB with the leaked version that got released on Christmas Eve.
The screen doesn't not work at all. The soft buttons work fine and so do the external buttons. Both ports work as well. The screen does not light up nor does it accept any input. The lapdock will start up as soon as the phone gets completely booted.
My question is there a way to upgrade the phone from ICS to JB without using the recovery menu. I can't navigate the recovery menu, so I can't install the zip file. If I had the two original files that came from the cache system folder, I could just reboot the phone and it would upgrade, right? If that is the case, does anyone have those original files that I could download?
I would love to upgrade this phone now instead of waiting for the OTA. Newer is always better.
By the way the phone got slammed in the house door and the frame is bent, so there is no fixing the phone at this point. The only use is to use it as a permanent dock on my lapdock 500.
Thanks to anyone that helps me or for even reading this post!
Do you suspect that you are able to select the options however can't see what you're doing? in that case I would search a video tutorial for a generic similar installation and simply follow the same steps using their screen as your guide.

I thought of that and tried it without success. I don't know how far through the process I get, cause I can't see the screen, but I suspect it might be when I am trying to get from the Android to the recovery menu. I really don't know if I get to it on the first try or not. It is such a crap shoot. You just don't know if you make a mistake or not. very frustrating. Thanks for the reply.
Hi, about 6 weeks ago my phone got hacked and they were able to take over my entire root system. They could record me via camera. Listen in on me whenever they wanted, turn my phone off when they wanted, reduce my battery to zero or drain it quickly, make it so nothing would ever load on the phone. It was a nightmare. After realising I finally got a stock rom and odin but they have set it so the system is read enable and there's eMMC burst mode enabled and I can't get rid of it. I flashed the stock rom hoping it would fix it but it hasn't. I can do everything on my phone like root it and flash custom rom etc etc..But they always have access and can stop my phone charging and when I delete stuff it reappears moments later. They control the Bluetooth the camera EVERYTHING!! I've come to think that they used the qualcomm flash tool and put some script in there to lock me out and keep them in control but I can't connect to it. I've noticed a virtual machine on my phone and other stuff but don't know what to do. Please can you help me. I've sent some pics of the vm ware and mods they added. I have some of the scripts they used as well if that's of any help. I have a rooted s4 i9505 with twrp on stock rom atm. Was using kushem rom when it happened. Thanks in advance

If you already tried reflashing the stock rom via odin and it didn't work (which I am surprised didn't work since that always does the trick), take the battery out of your phone and throw it in the trash. Being serious here, it isn't worth it. And depending on the hacker, you would want to do this quickly. Worse thing they can do is steal your wifi password and obtain your IP address and hack your wifi and hack other devices in your household.

Thanks for replying. I found out the guy who hacked me he installed a program on my fone using play store so didn't even have to use my fone. He had master control over my fone and could do anything. I went to police and they basically laughed at me. I have since smashed his 2 laptops and tablet and fone. He's a nasty piece of work but he is a demon when it comes to hacking. 23 hours a day in a dark dingy bedsit just messing with computers will do that to you I suppose. Thanks again fella.
