Screen recording in Jelly Bean - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
I was looking at the IO Session list when i found this in a Youtube Session
To me it sounds like Screen recording, what do you think?
After implementing Screenshots in ICS this would be an awesome addition
YouTube is one of the top destinations for gamers. Many console developers already incorporate video recording and uploading directly into their titles, but uploading to YouTube from a mobile game presents a unique set of challenges. Come and learn how the YouTube API combined with cloud computing can help enable video uploads in your mobile game.

sure, i think it sounds very plausible. I would welcome this feature. the few apps on the market are pretty limited to low/slow fps, etc.

Just purchased X7510 Advantage

Hi
I am new to this and have purchased a new HTC Advantage on WM6.1. I also have a Touch Diamond. It there anything i should do to have the Advantage running at its best or any good apps that would make its more useful?
I will mainly use the Advantage for mobile working, email and reviewing documents. I also will use it to keep my banking blog up to date while on the move.
Thanks in advance for your help.

jonryan,
Welcome to the forum
You might want to try out SoftMaker, which lets you have full office documents creating, editing, and viewing capabilities. In fact, it has exactly the same full desktop functionalities on the 5 inch screen.
Of course, viewing videos on the move on this large screen is something no other phones can match. This includes doing youtube on the move too, with either Coreplayer or YoutubePlayer. I use both, but more the later. I always prefer to save it first before watching, as it means I'm charged the data download cost only once, not to mention the smoother playing of the video too.
Another software that works uniquely well only on the Athena (again it is because of the large screen) is realVGA at 96dpi. No other phone is really still useable at that dpi IMHO.
The Athena also manifests it's strength using GoogleMap. You can see the satellite maps so much more and better.
Same goes for Webbrowsers, eReaders, PDF file readers and the like. You can see MORE with the same font size as the other phones.
Cheers.

Notepad with video

I'm taking a week of classes for work and would like to record the lectures (it is allowed) on video. While recording, I want to supplement the video with handwritten notes where appropriate. Has anyone seen an app that allows you to take notes that synchs with the video?
Thanks -
I too am in search of the perfect solution for taking lecture notes/audio/video. I've spent the last two days reading, searching, and testing apps. So far the best solution I have found is an app that will let me record audio while typing text notes (although my ATP's mic is terrible). The only solution I could come up with is to record video from my Razr and stitch the notes and video together after the class in Evernote or something similar.
I read at some point in the past two days about ICS not allowing the camera to operate in the background while using another app or when the screen turns off (tablet sleeps). I got burned on an app purchase because of this. The dev said it would still record while I did other things because the app ran as a "service". It didn't... cam stream would shut down if app wasn't active on the screen and it never would record to SD. I'm not going to name-and-shame the app here, but it seems we're both SOL for the moment. I'd sell a kidney to have an app that would allow video, external mic audio, and typed notes at the same time.
I have no idea if this will work or not, but it's worth a shot for you guys wanting this.
This is my idea:
Install "OverSkreen Browser", it's basicly an internet browser that works like a browser does on a PC, it adds a layer on top of the screen where the browser is in. So you can launch (for example) Youtube app, and have the OverSkreen browser sit on top of the YouTube app, being able to interact with both of the apps.
I do not know if this also works with the camera, but try it out
Just install the browser, set it up, launch the browser, click on home, launch the camera, press recent apps (or click the notification that comes up with overskreen browser) and click on it.
That would possibly allow you to record while also being able to take note in for example Google Docs.

Well... the good news is that the Overskreen browser actually worked. I could successfully record 720p HD video in the background while running Evernote in the Overskreen browser.
The bad news is that the web version of Evernote sucks equally well in both the stock browser and Overskreen. I will have to find another web-based note taking solution if I'm going to solve my video recording problem while taking notes. Perhaps I might try Google Docs or SpringPad. SpringPad's new interface for taking lecture notes just doesn't look like it will work though.... since it's been Pinterest-ified.
On a side note, I was able to use Gmail successfully while recording 720p video in the background using Overskreen with minimal input lag... so there is hope.
Any other suggestions on quality web-based note taking apps?

writing HTML5 Script

I have downloaded JW Player Javascripts to my computer for playing HTML5 Videos in my Motorola Milestone running with Kabaldan's CM7 7.2.0 ROM.The instructions included in the downloaded zip file says to write one script in the "Head" and the other in the "Body" of the web browser page of the phone. But being a noob in this matter I don't know how to access this web browser page and where in this page I have to write them.If any body give me a step by step instructions for this I would be much grateful to them.Expecting a helping hand with thanks in advance,
pnsdhrn.
An HTML document consists of two main tags: the head & the body. Whatever is in the head isn't rendered in the DOM and therefore isn't seen by the end user. Whatever is in the body IS rendered in the DOM and IS seen by the end user.
If you can link me to the download link for the Zip I could further help you!

What are you wanting to use JW Player for exactly? This is simply an alternative to a flash video plugin for web developers...e.g. if you're building a website and wish to include a video on a particular page.

Dear jhjhjhjh,
My intention is to play HTML5 videos in certain websites directly in the website itself without downloading them and watching with playback facility. Also the videos should play without the aid of any flash player applications such as Adobe Flash Player.I suppose you got it.
pnsdhrn
All you need to do is browse the website in an HTML5-compatible browser - stock ICS browser, Chrome Beta & Dolphin HD all fall under that category as they are all derived from WebKit : )
JW Player isn't a user-centric "addon" for a browser - it's a JavaScript plugin for web developers to use on their own websites to allow for HTML5 video playback.
Am I misunderstanding you? I get the feeling I am...

Thank you dear blend. No you are not misunderstanding me.I tried Dolphin HD,Chrome Beta & stock ICS.They all won't play the videos in the website itslf. All will download the video and playback using the videoplayer of the phone.Instant plyback is not coming.I hear about another browser 'Puffin"which does the instant playback in the website itself. Is it real? And what about it's performance compared to Chrome Beta and Dolphin HD?Please bear with me if I am disturbing you.

P.S. I'm jhjhjhjh - just had my username changed.
If you could send me a couple of URL's you've been trying to watch the videos on, i'll test it myself. This'll give me a chance to reproduce the issues you're experiencing.
I've never tried Puffin as Chrome Beta is perfect for me and I swear by it on the iMac (desktop).
And of course you're not disturbing me - this is a community : )

Background Video Recording App?

I can't seem to find an app that records video in the background on my phone. I am running Task650 and Ktoonsez's AOKP build 6.8.12. I have tried Secret Video Record, Mobile Hidden Camera, Hidden Camera Spy Camera Free, and a couple others. These don't record video in the background correctly. The videos come out scrambled (with green lines usually). You can tell when the camera is being moved but you can't tell what is being recorded at all. Does anyone know how to fix the problem or of an app that works?
That ACLU secret recording app might work. Don't know if it saves video locally or on their servers though.

I am having the same problem. The video won't even play for me. Everything else works, just the background process causes it to screw up.

That's because Android does not allow recording video without showing preview (SurfaceView) to the user. When you hide preview and Android detects it - preview surface will be destroyed. Furthermore then surface is not longer valid - MediaRecorder (which records video) will crash.
All those apps try to overcome this restriction in different ways.
I've also tried to do it and published app: Hidden Video Camera.

I've tested on bunch of different devices and it worked like a charm. You can try it for free and check if it works on your device.

A Few Floating Apps Which Make Multitasking Even Better on Android

Hey guys, here's an article I wrote about 5 of the greatest floating applications out there which really show off just how good Android is at multitasking. Included are quite a few applications that allow us to browse with multiple windows, have floating notepads/video players/calculators, and it includes a floating instant messaging client which makes talking to friends and whatnot extremely easy and convenient! While it's a pretty big article and provides a good bit of depth over all of the applications I'll sum it up here real quick:
OverSkreen - is an application which allows you to browse multiple tabbed windows to truly allow for full multitasking on the device. The browser hovers over any window which is great for taking notes, reading multiple websites, having Twitter and Facebook open, and just browsing the web in general. (Warning: not currently compatible with Jelly Bean. It is currently in the works by the developer though).
Hovernote - Hovernote is a pretty simple app which allows you to have a floating and resizable note taking window so you can take notes/jot down a quick list. It also features ICS spell check and works great alongside OverSkreen.
LilyPad HD - LilyPad is a seriously great looking floating Instant Messenger. It uses Facebook, MSN, and Google Talk to allow you to chat with friends and family from anywhere on your tablet even with a game or other application open in the background.
Stick It! - Stick it allows you to take the full potential of the 10" on our device and use it to watch YouTube videos, or other videos stored locally on your tablet or SD card. It also allows for background audio and multi-window support (although not at the same time).
The last one is AirCalc - AirCalc is just what it sounds like. It's a floating resizable version of the built in calculator on Android - I find it particularly useful when using SuperNote to take notes or write things down. You can have it open over top and perform the usual math calculations without leaving SuperNote.
Hopefully you guys will find them useful like I have! I use OverSkreen almost every day when remoting into my computer from Splashtop2/THD. As well as having it open to Twitter and Facebook for quick access to both from anywhere in the system. Hopefully you guys will find them useful! You can check out the full article here if you would like some more information.

Most likely, the developer said that he would have to rebuild and tweak some things before it would be available through the play Store on JB. Some users have said that it works fine if you make a backup then just transfer it however. Like the poster above me said, you could try the other floating browser as well.

There have been quite a few video players. Does that one also support YouTube playback?
Gotta put a mention in for BS player. Its the best video player for android, plays anything and everyhting i have tried and if you hold the back key while watching a video it becomes a floating video player.
Should, but its been broken on my s2 for a bit. Guess I'll try it a little later.
