I'm still on HC 3.2.1r2 but my Tablet's battery life is quite good and excellent on standby, but I've never tried to go past about 4 days. Do you use any "battery-saving" apps or things like WiFi lock apps that might cause wakelocks?
i have a 3g version and the battery lasts longer if i switch the device to airplane-mode...every 3-4h 1% battery

No bsttrry ssving apps do they sctually save battery, would anyone recommend some good battery saver apps .
Thanks

Agree, Since my ICS upgrade the battery has flattened out after just a day or two. This never happened before the upgrade. I've had it since it was released..
Haven't had any time to investigate whats causing it yet, will try to find out on this cycle.
Even with ICS my tablet holds 4 days with moderate use. I mostly use it for the IR function, RDP to PC or just for browsing, so nothin that would really drain the battery.
I should mention that I removed all bloatware and I hit the "Kill All button" (widget from ZDBox) a few times a day.
This is just a personal choice, but I've never found battery saving apps very effective. Most will give you either equivalent or shorter battery life so they're rarely worth it.
Ironically, some of them will shorten the battery life since to do all their conserving activities, they have to get wakelocks and some of them don't release them or they get queued and it ruins your battery.
Yep, my battery life is also rubbish now I'm on ICS, it'll need charging after a day!
I have noticed that Android OS uses up about 20% of the battery, while on my One S it's only about 3%....
wow i am surprised by 4 days. even on honeycomb i didnt get more than 2 days. on ics it's even worse. i am not using any apps in the background besides google sync. i do have 3g version, without simcard. and my wifi discnnect policy is "use mobile data" (i thought since there is no sim, this will disconnect the wifi)

Does the next update (2.1) somehow include a way to improve battery? I'm guessing no, wouldn't you need to replace the battery itself?
There may be battery performance improvements in the next update. My battery life is actually stellar. I set Timescape to update every 3 hrs and have brightness at about 75%. Off the charger at about 7am and at midnight that night I'm usually at around 40%. That's plenty good enough for me.

I dunno about the update and battery life but, Its 100% to 20% in 25-27 hours for me which i think is awesome as my usage is high.
Try setting the updates of your apps lower, check the Batt usage history from the settings menu to see what sucks the juice more.
If you want more battery life then you'll have to sacrifice some updates, which according to me ruins the entire purpose of having such a high-end smart Android device. Just use the phone the way you like it, have the charger with you always
Whatever phone you choose i think you are going to have this issue since batt usage depends solely upon the way you use your phone. In 2.1 live wallpapers suck more juice so you'll be advised to turn it off its either functionality or performance, the decision is yours
According to me any phone u buy will have same battery life or there is 70% Probability to have worst battery life. X10 has one the best battery life amongst all smartphones

Hmm... could it be just me? My battery went from 100% to 53% from just staying locked over night (around 9 hours). I checked what's been eating it and it said "Cell Standby" and "Display". My brightness is on the lowest possible and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is constantly off. I'll check that Timescape stuff and try to get the App Killer from the Market... (if my device even had a market!).
nah this device is ****ed up ...
sony homepage says that standby time is around 450 hours .... (more then 17 days!)
i dont have timescape on autoupdate - the only thing i do is gmail push and i get 1 and maybe 1/2 day(s) of standy time (depends if i make 1 call or not )
the update should increase it a lot i think
btw if some1 has a 2nd phone please try this:
charge it fully and then turn it off completely ... after 17 days turn it on ... my bet is it wont turn on coz the akku is totally empty...
I have no Wi-Fi at my hotel and I don't have a data plan. How on earth does it drain this much battery. I'm gonna go turn off every app and try another night just on standby.

Good question for you actually, how long have you had the phone? my first 4-5 charges were appauling but it quickly got better and now i could not be happier. more often than not getting 7am - 11pm the next day (whats that, 40 hours or so?) out of one charge, with plenty of go left.
Mine is running RB##26 firmware, rooted and a chunk of apps deleted though.
When i first got mine it was a bit poo, remember for the first 5 or so charges to let the battery go down pretty low and it will improve battery life.
Get runcpu and you're golden.

Sounds like you're running 014 firmware - I had the exact same problem until I updated to 020. The whole battery usage profile changed and one hour of standby only uses up 1-2%.
yeah, the 020 u/g makes a difference. I've rooted and overclocked mine, heavy usage on 3g can drain the battery in c12 hours but more than adequate for general usage
I'm a big user. Even with my G1, I was happy with a day's use. Anyone who thinks they're gonna get days of use without a charge is kidding themselves. A smart phone with a big screen us gonna suck juice regardless of what you do. As many an XDA user will tell you, keep your charger or at least the cable with you wherever you are. With FW026 it did help a little, but if you need life from your battery you really do need to sacrifice some of your widgets or updates.
MrZ
Today my battery have gone to 10% in about 10/11 hours, i'm using sip and wireless are active all day, even when it are on standby, installed some apps and played some games, some calls, its good enough, sometimes i get 2 days, depends on what you do, you can do some tricks...
Anybody else notice that standby battery life seems to have gotten worse in 8.8.3.33? Mine was dropping less than .5% per hour before, now it seems to be considerably more (just noticed so no chance yet to quantify)...
Edit: Actually, I'm leaning toward battery life in general being worse...

Hard to say but I'm leaning towards maybe lol
I agree it could be a maybe.
Mine was fully charged when I disconnected it before work. It's been sitting at home on standby for 15.5 hours and it's at 94%.
During that time it's been connected to my WIFI, it updated google translate, and it synced with 3 e-mail accounts every 4 hours and my main email account every hour.
Seems the same to me.
mines seem to get even better battery life after update. check your background processes to make sure they aren't any unwanted background apps running. those will drain battery. overall battery life is great and the standby life is unreal how good it is. do you think your battery fully broken in yet? how long you had it?
Mine seems worse as well. No testing to prove it but it's been in the back of my mind since shortly after the update.

Nothing new since the update as far as background processes. I've had it since Friday, and it's had two full charge/discharge cycles. But again this is compared to before the update...
I'll let it sit overnight and see if this is just my imagination.

Mine goes down 15% per hour - mainly browsing www. isnt it to much? Before and after uptdate
i had 99% a hour ago and now its 90% i have only watched 10minutes of iplayer and read one email the rest of the time the tablet has been on stand by. i have a task killer running and it was up dated yesterday.
also i cant seem to see Time remaining of the battery rather than just %
its as bad as my HTC HD before it was rooted
As an update, I let it sit overnight for 8 hours and it went from 15% to 12%, or about .375%/hour. So, that's pretty good standby performance and my impression was mistaken.
After using it, though, I'm thinking my impression was coming more from battery life in use, which does seem less than before. I think they've done something with the power settings that I'd expect them to undo in the next update (or just in the ICS upgrade).
The power mode you using, type of activities you doing on prime, and brightness will directly affect battery drain while device being used. I always have my prime in balanced mode for the best of both worlds, Performance and battery life. as i never had any lag or any anything in this mode. I've noticed, even with heavy usage in balanced mode, battery drains about 10% or a lil less per hour. if light usage then it even drains less. Check out my "Different Performance Modes of Prime/Tegra3" thread. I started it to address issues like this and people compare performance and battery life in different modes. as everyone will have a different setup or use different. There is also a bstterylife thread started by TylerZ that needs resurrecting also. now that all the preorder threads n such got merged we can have some more relevant threads stay current.
honestly though, the battery life is amazing on this tab. to the other guy saying he has a task killer rubbing in the background..lmao that's his problem right there. Honeycomb or ICS doesn't need task killers as memory managemanent is already taken care of by the OS itself. and does a pretty damn good job at it also. if you wanna kill one or 2 apps that's OK. but to have a task killer running in background of honey comb OS does more harm than good.

i've noticed a slight downgrade in battery life while using the tablet, but not in standby mode.
also noticed that changing the performance mode no longer seems to make as big of an adjustment to the screen as it used to. perhaps the update increased processor performance, which explains why it feels snappier in general, and also seems to use up slightly more power.
I just got the View for my wife to replace her Kindle Fire and it has terrible battery life running HC. I have it in airplane mode and I have tried a number of battery life tips that have worked on all my other Android devices and nothing is working. For instance its been on battery for just under 5 hours and just barely over 1 hour display on and its at 35% right now. I used to have the Flyer and it was pretty decent when it came to battery life but the View is terrible. Am I missing something?
The flyer was wifi only. The view is running a mobile data plan. If you want it to get battery life like the flyer then turn the mobile data off and only use the wifi.
This is what I do with my view and I am usually trying to kill it at the end of the day to charge it. I'm on it constantly throughout the day as well.
My battery life seems fine. I use it off and on throughout the day and I have the Cellular radios on most of the time.

Its not normal and hardware is unlikely so check the battery usage stats on the settings menu and see what is using the battery.

I have been monitoring the battery stats very closely and it doesn't make sense what is causing so much drain. I even have Better Battery Stats installed to monitor partial wake usage and nothing is out of the ordinary. I've never received a device with a bad battery but I'm thinking this might be the first.

i think you did that does not sound normal mine last all day with heavy use i can say i have never had it go all the way down...you may have a bad battery it just doesn't sound like the two i play with in fact one on gb the other on hc and the hc is lasting more....
Aside from a possible bad battery, you might have a corrupted battery stats file. Try clearing the file by deleting it if you have root.
Wait a few days. I think the same thing happened to me. Maybe for the first few days the battery indicator is not very accurate.

We've had it since 1/31 and it hasn't gotten any better. I've been doing some more testing and it seems as though wifi is the culprit. In airplane mode without wifi on it seems fine without use and doesn't drain. With wifi on the battery usage shows a constant drain without any use.
Try out my rom. All my testers and users report much better battery life than the stock rom, and I've got a couple extra things under the hood.

I just picked up a view off of CL. Same problem.. Horrible battery, didn't even last a full day.
People make fun of the ipad, but that 10 hour battery is no joke. This thing, with cell radio off and wifi on, lasts me MAYBE 5 hours, and thats with medium usage.
That's insane.

Now don't just assume all Android tablets are like your experience with the View. I'm confident there is something defective with the one I purchased. I had the Flyer and it would last me a good 7 hours and I currently have the Galaxy Tab which easily gets me over 9 hours of actual use (ie screen on).

Since the JB update I have been trying to narrow down the culprit in battery drain that has cropped up. Going through better battery stats there was never a definitive clue as to the cause.
Tonight my phone has been off charge 3 hours and its drained 10% in battery sat on a shelf doing nothing, simply because WIFI was enabled.
One of the stand out features of this device was decent battery life up against comparable handsets, now that's been taken away from a shocking firmware update i'm considering jumping ship.
Has anyone else found any means of fixing this yet? Or just a case of waiting for Samsung?

Theres some threads talking about this.
I don´t feel that.I´ m on LJ5 build and sincethe LJ builds I´m very happy with battery drain, even sometimes I get 5 hours screen on with wifi on.
Maybe you update your phone from ICS and don´t wyped your data or made a fresh install. Try to do so and you should be happy again.
It's probably due to a dirty WiFi network that's smashing a bunch of multicast packets. Pretty much all the custom kernels available now have a patch to ignore multicast when screen off; otherwise you'll just have to wait for Samsung to realise they did something silly (read: never)

That makes sense. Always the same with Samsung, takes them an age to get a new software update out and when they finally do it always comes at a cost.
My battery drain is less after settings in advanced to always on and changing the location settings and turning off notifications in some apps and also in play store.
Also in maps automatically update your location might be a battery drain.
I've got a lot of battery drain with wifi on, too. Last night, my battery dropped from 29% to 0% (in 5-6 hours) with wifi on. I woke up to find that my battery had been depleted. UGH!
Must check what is draining your battery. I don t experience that... so far and from many android devices I ve the s3 is by far the battery frindly I have.
I i ve s2 and xperia neo dayly use and I'm happy. I use also some dirty wifi networks and don't have problems at all.

it's a known issue on latest JB rlses. Whats funny is that :
-The leaks did not have the wifi battery drain
- The wifi drains more Battery battery than 3G. I can have 3G on all the time the phone last up to 1d10hrs with 2hrs screen time
I'm on the leaked version. But on lj5 I didn't experience that so far.

Iv had my galaxy s3 for 5 months now and i dont know if its just the Jellybean update but the battery drain when having wifi on is really bad im lucky to get 1 days usage with the phone , i got my google nexus4 yesterday and iv used wifi and data for most of the day and im now in day 2 my battery is at 44% and both batteries are same 2100mah
think im gonna sell my GS3 as the google nexus4 is so much better with battery , but before i do i will reflash stock jellybean on GS3 without root and run them both side by side to compare results , but so far GS3 battery is real bad for drain if i install juice defender on Nexus4 im sure i would get between 2-3 days usage with moderate usage
i will run my tests on both phones side by side with and without juice defender and try to show
I have had the same issue. Though the battery drain is not drastic, it certainly is more compared to ics. If you require better battery life then go back to ics and flash Aosp/Aokp roms

Wow, just got my G2 on Friday night, and yesterday I was sitting around the house on WiFi all day, playing with it, I got maybe 12 hours out of it, before it was down in the teens.
Last night I charged it fully, woke up, unplugged the phone 100% battery, now 2 hours later it's down to 89%, and all I did was surf XDA and some websites for maybe 20 minutes all on WiFi.
I need to root this thing, and install CleanROM, and debloat this beast, because with a 3,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 800, I expect way way better battery life.. I am looking for Note 2 battery life, that thing could go 36 hours without sneezing.
Is it the ton of bloatware on the phone from ATT + LG killing the battery ? I am shocked at how much bloat this phone has, it's over the top with bull**** apps I never want on here, pretty ridiculous.
If you had taken the 2 minutes it took for you to write up this rant and look for the battery thread you would have seen the G2 has amazing battery life. You are obviously doing something wrong.
Give it some time to settle before deciding anything. Mine actually took three-four days and some reboots before it calmed down, and now I have about twice the battery stamina compared to HTC One (which I threw in the dumpster btw) .
Could be hardware issues. I had my G2 for a week now, and I tell you what the battery is amazing. I can easily get 4-5 hours of screen on time with 24+ hours battery life, and that's with stock. all sync (fb, whatsapp, twitter) with a few tweaks. I am coming from Nexus 4 and very impressed because with G2 I literally have a double battery life.
And also G2 is very fast charging. Only take 2 hours to charge from 10 - 100%. That's amazing!
My battery is getting better every day. Yesterday I got 14 hours of use, 5 1/2 hours screen on time, and an estimated 2 1/2 hours to go at 15%. Definitely the best so far. With more tweaks, I'm wondering how much I can get today.

I had some bad battery life initially. I found the biggest culprit of battery drain in my case was CarrierIQ. After rooting the phone and disabling the CIQ, my battery life has been great. It goes 24+ hours easily and it seems it can run 40+ hours though I haven't tried it.

The battery life is love and hate on this phone for me. The love part is the battery life on this phone is great. The hate part is you have to turn off a lot of things to get that great battery life.
I've never had to turn this many things off to get good battery life on any other phones that I've had. I have to completely turn off anything location related which is a big bummer for me. I always like to have a clock/weather widget on my home screen but it never updates with all of the stuff that I have to turn off.
It's one of the few reasons why I'm moving to a Note 3. But when you heavily tweak the system, you can get fantastic battery life out of this phone. Good luck!

yet another topic's title that would detract would be buyers.
This phone has the best battery life of any phone I have ever had, stock. Even better than the Note series. Clearly user error
Battery life issues are so variable between two use scenarios it's like comparing apples and oranges. As others have said, battery life is pretty damn amazing for this phone.
Post some results from GSam battery monitor or wake lock detector to help you sort it all out.
I am still running stock, not rooted or ROM'd yet. Right now I am at 8h 29m total usage off a 100% charge this morning. Current battery life is already down to 35%, and only 2h 49m On Screen Time, and I have been on WiFi all day. I have GPS off, sync off, no e-mail or Facebook stuff installed yet.
Might as well give you a fast screen shot of mine
People with great battery life vs those with poor. Do you think its mainly settings and a good ROM or root with bloat deleted ?
Or is it hardware related ? Bad phones from factory shipping with damaged batteries or hardware ?
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Battery so poor, I might return my G2 for a Galaxy S4 instead, for the removable battery.
Just shocked I'm barely getting any better battery life than my Nexus 4, which got 4h On Screen time, and over all only 12 hours usage
Do I have a bad phone ? Or just stock is screwed up and I should factory reset, or better yet, root and install CleanROM ?
