Hey, I'm wondering if you've find a way to modify the birghtness on the camera? I'm currently using energy rom too and it'd be great to be able to edit the brightness on the camera (instead of the full birghtness).
Sent from my HTC Ruby using xda app-developers app

Or you can pull the camera.apk out of the rom with the brightness you want it set at.. and put it in /system/app then reboot. problem solved.
I'm pretty sure it isn't the apk itself tho, if you download the HQ camera mod, you will see it has camera profiles, I think if you modify a value in one of those files, that is what will accomplish what you want.
Do not be afraid to do it yourself, if it doesn't work or you have issues, you just reflash the rom without wiping, or reflash the mod. Either will take you back to whatever you had before.
But like I said, I am pretty sure it isn't compiled into the APK itself.

So, I just changed from energy rom to speed rom and the camera seems to have brightness in auto mode (or it just follow my current brightness setting) instead of a certain value...
If you think I can just edit the camera.apk, can I just grab the camera.apk from speed rom and push it to energy rom? Will that work?

[Q] Regarding MIUI/CM7, pulling an app over?

Hey Guys!
I've been trying to find a way to keep the softkey light on S2 on MIUI turned off (COMPLETELY, not auto brightness values for button to 0) but there really isn't a way...
I've noticed in CM7 there is a Galaxy SII settings app that can be found independently in Titanium Backup. That app has the option to turn off the softkey backlight completely.
Do you think it's possible to drag that app from CM7 and Install it on MIUI to turn off the keylight? Considering from what I've read MIUI is based partly on CM right?
Go to display setting. Turn on auto brightness and beneath it will be advanced settings or something. Then there should be automatic backlight tab or Light Levels. Click on Edit Other levels.. Underneath button, make the value(should be 225 or 250) go to 0. You're good to go. You can turn off auto brightness then.
Pretty sure the OP said "COMPLETELY, not auto brightness values for button to 0"...Wait...He did
OP - there are various scripts around the place which claim to achieve this. I also use Miui & setting the auto brightness to zero used to work. This stopped working early in the the new year so something has obviously changed in Miui's builds.
I can't vouch for the usefulness of these scripts as I've learned to live with this issue, and I don't have a link for same. Try a Google search & append XDA to your search terms. This should yield something for you.
Edit to add - With regard to pulling over an app from CM7, obviously Miui is CM based so it might work. I guess you can only try it & find out. Can't see how it could do any harm given it's only an app.
@Mistah Thanks loads dude, I've tried some of the scripts from some of the searches I did and nothing seems to work you're right.
I'll give it a shot and see how it goes, but I don't think if i get the APK out i can just install it normally right? I'd have to put it in system>app then do a reboot for it to go in nicely?
I'll test it and report it back here tmrw thanks!
No worries
Yeah I'm not surprised the scripts don't work. Yeah give it a try, put it in /system/app & also might wanna mount /system rw before you install it (if you need to, use an app like Remount to do this). Yeah do a reboot after you've installed it & cross your fingers.
Will be awaiting your report with baited breath

Replied. Doesn't work & I doubt it will.
I wrote a script which works for me on all kernels with init.d support, here's a link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27703769/Permanently Disable Softkey Backlight.zip
If the flashable zip doesnt work just copy the script and set correct permissions (755). Please report back, because I haven't used the script for a while now...
BLN doesn't work on the script, though. I have located the file which contains the value for the backlight and changed its permissions, this disables the phone to change this value and thus keeping it off. This file is on a different location on almost every phone, so most scripts work on only one particular device.

How to improve battery life guide for dummies

NEEDS ROOT!
With root explorer (or similiar apps) let's go in /system/app and rename the file "phone.apk" into "phone.apk.bak"
Now reboot G70 to stop the annoying popup about phone.apk crashing.
Enjoy longer battery life!

cause you stop an always running process that drains battery, an unnecessary process, g70 is not a phone!
I've tested it on g70 and a wifi tablet and battery life is improved.
It's a reversible process, just rename the file again.
Just test it, no risk!
Rather than renaming the file you can just "freeze" it with system tuner pro.
Hey this leads to defection of the stock camera app. When I did this namechange to phone.apk.bak, the stock camera didn't respond and the camera view was totally black, like it was pointing towards something black (or too close to an object)
So re-renamed the phone.app.bak to phone.apk and now the camera works again.

you're right, i use camera zoom fx
Me too, but the video doesn't work as well then :S
I'm having a similar issue with removing the phone.apk file breaking the stock camera app.
I used Titanium Backup to remove the phone.apk a long time ago. Normally I use Camera Zoom FX, so I didn't notice that there was a problem until I tried to use it to take some video recently.
I would like to restore phone.apk, but it looks like I must have deleted my backup...Yes, I am an idiot!
Does anyone have a download link for the phone.apk file? Am I screwed? I only record video once in a blue moon, but I would like to have that functionality back.
I am using a Galaxy Player 4.0 US YP-G1CWY/XAA
Thanks!

Try checking Flight Mode (Airplane Mode) in wireless settings. In most systems this shuts down the the phone.apk.
Why do this?Just use a battery saver and set data connection to zero...

[Q] Landscape Rosie

If I pull the rosie.apk out of a rom that has the landscape homescreen mode working and put it in my system/app folder and change permissions will that allow my phone to go into landscape or are there other changes that need to be made?
I am running the Fresh rom atm and it's the only thing bugging me.
Thanks.

It depends on if you are running a deodexed version of the ROM currently. If yes, then, it should work as you described. If it is still ODEXED, then, no it won't.

Thanks, I did see that but I didn't like the idea of another app running in the background when I could just change one out. If I wasn't unlocked and rooted I would use that.
In case anyone wants it I pulled the .apk out of flex360's rom. Thanks flex360.
This, I believe, also has the ultrasmooth mod.
If posting this is against the rules or whatever let me know and I'll remove it. Just thought it would save people having to download a 500+mb rom if they are running a deodex rom and want the landscape rosie.
I kind of thought this would make the lockscreen rotate too but it doesn't... I have my phone sitting on the kickstand at work and I turn it on to look at the weather on the lockscreen which is why I originally wanted it rotated.

either this apk doesn't play well with viper, or I installed it wrong. I dropped it in /system/app and set permissions, but just got a black screen on reboot. Luckily, I was able to install apex from the play store from my computer, and once that installed, I was able to launch root explorer and change back to the backup rosie.apk I made before I pushed the new one. How are you supposed to install this?
Weird. Maybe some roms have changes not compatible or something. I did exactly what you did and it worked fine for me on the fresh 5.1.1 rom. I just renamed my original and put this one in system>app and changed permissions. After a reboot it worked.
I assume you meant system>app.

If its still odexed first delete the Rosie.odex file in root explorer then place your new Rosie in there. If you have modified the Rosie make sure it is signed. Signature verification has not been disabled in any of the roms that are out I don't believe.

ICS Camera

This is not really a question, but more of a suggestion for those who can't stand to use the current Camera on Liquid and Jesters Roms. Personally, I take a lot of pictures with my phone and the quality from that APK was quite bad when it was dark compared to what it was.
So after a lot of research, here's what I did:
Downloaded Root Explorer from the Google Play.
Browsed to system/app
Mount R/W and deleted Camera.apk
Downloaded this camera apk from MIUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15307536&postcount=167
Installed it and voila - working camera with focus.
Note: Camcorder still doesn't work
I'm not sure if it's required to uninstall the Camera.apk (chances are no), however it's what I done.
think this may work with AOKP?
No go

You mean it shows the controls, but a blank screen right? You have to take one picture like that, and after that it displays the screen and it works fine. You'll have to do that each time you start up the app unfortunately, but still it's better than crap quality and no focus.

For night settings, I usually set my ISO as low as possible. By doing so, the system will automatically use longer shutter speed. About focusing there's nothing I can do but to tap the screen.

Any chance to port MIUI 6 or MIUI 7 stock camera like this way ?
Hola guys. I know this reply is kind of irrelevant but I have been looking for help from anyone who had this problem. To all of you. Particularly the ones who are familiar with MIUI. I will just stick to the point. If you ARE familiar with miui then you must have come across those flashy themes. You must also have found out the way to bypass the infamous theme policy WSM tools and Xposed and all. But I recently started taking interest in those flashy themes. You know that once you download a theme from the default Themes app the mtz file starts getting downloaded and as soon as the downloading has finished it gets unpacked into bits (com.android.contacts, com.miui.home, icons, lock_wallpaper, locksreen and so on) and gets copied to the MIUI folder in main storage and again into data/system/theme. This is the first problem. I can't copy the whole mtz file to a safe place because it gets unpacked as soon as it has been downloaded which is basically a zip file containing several other zip files that is, the 'bits' I was talking about. Second thing. the default themes app does not recognize mtz files downloaded from the official miui themes website. It declares them as third party themes. What I did was, took some of those 'bits' and replaced some XML files inside them and some png elements and put them back into data/system/theme. But miui has a way to prevent this from happening. As soon as it detects a modified file present in data/system/theme it reverts back to the default plain theme by deleting all files from data/system/theme. My guess is it keeps checking out verifying in regular intervals the checksums that it must have generated earlier. The same thing happens if I just replace a bit in the mentioned directory with a bit from another theme. So my questions are:
1. Is there a way to preserve the mtz file downloaded from within the default Themes app as a whole mtz file?
2. Can I make changes to just the Themes app so that it would apply any mtz file?
3. Is there a way to prevent miui from continuously checking or verifying the checksums that it has generated? (just a guess but I reckon thats what it actually does) because for an hour or so after replacing or modifying the 'bits' everything works fine but the reverting process takes place in an hour or so.
Thats all folks! jk. Any help or suggestion would be really appreciated because I think a thread like this was long since needed here. And dont talk about visiting MIUI's official forums. Most of the guys there don't know half the things that is really worth discussing. Thank you guys.
note- dont want to use WSM tools nor can I find one for miui7.
note2- if I change the permissions of the folder (data/system/theme) to 444 allowing READ permissions only, the phone would just reboot without warning and continue to reboot until the permissions are changed back to normal (755).
Good one from MIUI, thx.
