N.O.V.A 3 is playable. But pretty laggy when it comes to being played on CM7 Alpha. The gameplay is not smooth and becomes slow when facing the special effects and motion blur. In my opinion I don't think it's worth buying. Does anyone know if it runs faster on CM9?

there is no way it can run faster on cm9 because cm9 lacks hardware acceleration

Actually, the CM9 nightly builds include hardware acceleration, so it can be tested to see if it is faster (if you can get it to run before your device randomly reboots).

Yeah I knew that, I was under the assumption that the OP wanted to run NOVA 3 under a stable CM9 release aka the 2.6.x kernel based CM9.

I have switched from samsung LP7 rom to AOSP (F1 GNex) and then AOKP (hydrogen).
and I really love the overall UI smoothness on both, however I did notice that 3D graphics performance is not as good as in the samsung ics rom.
This is very noticeable (low frame rate lag) in games like Modern Combat 3 and ShadowGun..
Anybody knows the reason why?
Note: I did not underclock/undervolt the cpu or gpu
same issue here on all AOSP and AOKP roms i think there is real problem in GPU driver in Aosp OR screen refresh rate and until now not fixed i really hate the fps drops in games i feel like i have a **** device not sgs2
btw if u run antutu when it come in 3d graphic test(knight) in start of test the fps get stuck at 51 fps like 10-15 second then it goes up and in nena mark 2 when u look in the fps meter u can see the fps gose up an down like hell in all aosp roms and the test lag as hell the u will got 46 on sammy rom the test run so so smooth and the fps much better no fps drops and u will got between 52-54 fps
this issue is keeping me on sammy rom but i really like the Aosp and Aokp i really hope it will fix soon
Agreed.

idk there is many things to fix in Aosp roms and most impotent thing is the laggy 3d thing that issue keep away from cm or aokp roms but i really like them
u can ask codeworkx for fix but he will ignore u and i think he is busy with i9100G too as i read in cm thread
btw there is problem with ram too
in sammy rom i got more than 1070 points in aosp only 890 in quadrant i got more than 3200 in ram points in aosp 2000
so for now sammy rom is best in every thing performance-stability-for games - etc
in GB the Aosp roms was slightly better in every thing than sammy rom but idk what happened in ics it become the opposite or maybe sammy but some magic in there ics roms

maybe you can get driver sources from samsung so codeworkx can work on them
other wise you have to live with it
sadly samsung doesnt provide sources besides kernel
in fact no manufacturer does
which is the biggest drawback in aosp rom or phones like s2
but the advantages out weight the problems aosp ftw
what the hell the thread moved to Q&A thanks for mod now no one will see it
So it's a driver problem I assume ?
AOKP & CM9 roms are slow compare to AOSP & Sam roms. I usualy get 59.8 fps on antutu benchmark at knights where as on AOKP & CM9 roms it doesn't go beyond 54-56 fps. IMO try 4.0.3 roms instead of 4.0.4 ! You will feel the difference.
And one more thing try Siyah 3.0.0rc1 - 3.0.1. (Device gets quite hot but it gives you nice fps on HD games like MC3,Shadowgun, Asphalt 6).
I know AOKP & CM9 have lots of nice tweaks but they are not yet optimized & have some touch problems likr when you swipe left it goes right etc )

what u mean by AOSP
as i know AOSP is cm9 or F1 rom
Hello,
I just got myself an Atrix 4G and i'm looking at the roms right now. I'm interrested in CM10... seems to not have many bugs, but i wonder: what is the performance in games? I see it have no HW aceleration, so i wonder if it matters in the final product?
Anyone using it could let me know? Thanks in advanced
Im not much a gamer, but I have tested Angry Birds (just for test) and it has some lags.
But remember that CM10 is in alpha stage, and soon (I hope) we're getting nvidia/motorola drivers.

Huummm... guess i will wait untill Moto release the oficial ICS then, so drivers community will have access to the drivers and stuffs i guess. Thanks
great, that's response was useful for me too.
I'm running Paranoid Android 1.9.5b (based on jokersax's CM10 build) and games typically work fine. On rare occasions I have to turn the screen off and back on to fix multitouch issues but I'm pretty sure it's fixed now. There doesn't seem to be any issue with jitter or lag in games though.

I've had another idea relating to the Galaxy Player 5 and 5.8. I've been using ICS ROMs for around a 2 months now and in terms of UI they are very nice and smooth and I don't want to be rude but in terms of gaming performance, that's not so good. Even Gears And Guts has real issues. Now I might be wrong but is this because of hardware acceleration? If so couldn't you take the files of the Galaxy Player 5.8 and put them on the Player 5.0 to make it work? As far as I know (Which isn't that far) hardware acceleration isn't like cameras and stuff were every device has a different camera and so on. Isn't hardware acceleration a sort of universal thing? But then I may be wrong and talking complete rubbish.

I know kernel modification is required. What we need to make hw acceleration work is to upgrade module, in both rom & kernel

Gaming has apsolutly nothing to do with HW acceleration ..ICS on 5.0 and with out HW A. is much better for gaming then GB ..because ALL GAMES use Open GL ..i have gta 3,max payne ,real racing 2 ,nova 3,fifa 2012.. and they all work very very good..no single game use HW acceleration and only app that is using is chrome..and of course for video decoding witch is decoded on CPY with out HW.
And off course its not that simple, you need kernel 3.x and this not for development thread.
I'm really sorry about my posting errors. I will remember in future. And Nova 3 is OK but gears and guts which isnt very intensive at all really is almost unplayable. I don't get it
Even minecraft runs extremely smooth, and that's an intensive game.

I also have Minecraft full and that runs buttery. But Nova 3s FPS is playable but not buttery. And gangster Rio was really quit playable for 30 secs and then it lagged really bad. But its not just gaming. The You Tube app requires hardware acceleration to play HD.

Have you tried a RAM Manager (or any app that has a function to auto-kill background processes)? Most of them will let you make a white list of apps that you do not want the RAM Manager to kill. Although it's not the fastest option, you could also try using Titanium to run a batch cache clear of all the apps except your games. Or, you could try tweaking your overclock settings, but you will definitely sacrifice your battery for this option.
Hmmm. I haven't found any app that auto kills apps but I have been looking for one. I did try RAM expander but it said my ROM wasn't supported. I'm running rj's custom kernel at 1.2ghz.

Try this one. The UI is extremely sexy and very user friendly. It has simple settings where you can set up various aspects of the app, particularly auto-kill.

So, i was testing CM10 Beta 3 by bieltv.3 and CM9 NIGHTLY 21/11 by Wayland, with the same supercharger settings & CPU freq, on CM9 i have shuttering while playing music, someone say thats is due to low class sd, but this not happen on CM10.
The other issue is scrolling, browsing with dolphin browser on CM9 is a laggy jumpy experience, while on CM10 not.
i will try to logcat this while earn at least 10 posts, to reply on CM9 thread.
Hope that CM9 devs read this, this issues shoulnd´t happen on ICS, knowing that it has more free RAM than JB.
Have in mind: JB has been smoothed and also has Project Buttery goodness while ICS has not, it's even laggy on the Gnex

I will take a look
scrolling lag: seems to be dolphin browser related, is not so hard on stock browser.
About the play shuttering, i rarely happens smartassv2/ondemand 245-800. The phone must be playing music without user activity.

Project butter doesn't work on Galaxy Ace as it requires 3.X kernel.

Alright so: found the fastest sensless ROM was slimrom. With quadrant I scored about 4k on funky kernel. Mostly all sense based ROM scored around that that's with funky. Now that I installed rage ROM aosp I'm getting laggier performance in games and about a 2- 3k quadrant benchmark score. Same with antutu benchmark. Lower scores then on sense. This dosnt make sense. I thought aosp ROMs (cm9) were so pose to be godly and around faster then she sense based. But lower benchmark and lower fps and lag in games this sucks. Still running funky. I noticed that system tuner was acting up and making it do all weird things so I cleared data and uninstalled rebooted and still got same scores. Force GPU was checked in all ROMs and kernel versions. And all benchmarks were dine with ball the same CPU setting. Maybe an app is acting up and robing performance? I'm not get any abnormal heat or batter drain.
Did you check the built in cpu manager within the settings? If you have an app to govern it, they will battle over control causing lag.

Yes and I only use the built in one to control. I was reading that this is a common problem with cm9 and going from android v 4.0.4 to 4.0.3 might fix it. As in different cm9 ROM.
Told you this before and hate to sound like a broken record. Don't use System Tuner with my kernel, use Android Tuner or CPU Tweaker (these replaced System Tuner for a reason) on Sense roms.

I don't touch any CPU settings with ST. None. Its pretty much installed for freezing apps task manager to see what's running and the widget. That's it. All CPU settings are dine through CM in the performance section.
NEVER NEVER NEVER turn force GPU rendering on (breaks MANY apps), thats the BIGGEST mistake MANY people do on these forums along with those so-called universal "build.prop" tweaks which do absolutely nothing. Try using the stock kernel first to see if its kernel related.

I've tested both games mc3 and nova 3 and both run better with it enabled. I've also tried multiple versions of kernel. Found 1.4 gives good performance and battery I've read tho that it is is a cm9 problem and that its "known"??r idk how true that is tho. Its mainly just games that I'm lagging on.

Any ;new when Neo is gonna push out his CM10 build? I think aims just wait for that see if that dolv s the problem if not them back to slimrom.
It won't be released until the CM10 devs give the go ahead. But I don't think you'll like it any more than what you've been running.

Triple buffering. You're thinking about triple buffering. We'll only get all those benefits with a full implementation of Project Butter, which is not automatic with jellybean. Right now, what we have is very uneven. Some things are smooth, some things are choppier. Getting a full ION implementation should smooth things out, but it still won't be Project Butter.
