CM10 (Jelly Bean)'s performance with games - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just got myself an Atrix 4G and i'm looking at the roms right now. I'm interrested in CM10... seems to not have many bugs, but i wonder: what is the performance in games? I see it have no HW aceleration, so i wonder if it matters in the final product?
Anyone using it could let me know? Thanks in advanced

Im not much a gamer, but I have tested Angry Birds (just for test) and it has some lags.
But remember that CM10 is in alpha stage, and soon (I hope) we're getting nvidia/motorola drivers.

Huummm... guess i will wait untill Moto release the oficial ICS then, so drivers community will have access to the drivers and stuffs i guess. Thanks

great, that's response was useful for me too.

I'm running Paranoid Android 1.9.5b (based on jokersax's CM10 build) and games typically work fine. On rare occasions I have to turn the screen off and back on to fix multitouch issues but I'm pretty sure it's fixed now. There doesn't seem to be any issue with jitter or lag in games though.

[Q] has anyone gotten gta3 to work on cm9?

I can get it too turn on but it super lags... I saw a post saying it works tho
I heard a report in the CM9 Rom post that said it runs smoothly.
Sure you installed the latest one? Or because there is a lack of hardware acceleration, it is laggy and that guy lied.
I saw the same thing....he lied LOL,
All other games work fine though I'm on alpha 3 the newest one
I tried it, I got shuttering glitches... similar with angry birds 2d graphics. I don't think the hw ac is working properly yet.

[Q] CM7 Alpha12 vs CM7 Alpha Final?

Back on March 2nd, I took the plunge and flashed CM7 on my rooted NT. Barring a few bugs that I could live with, everything works great!
Since then, Alpha Final came out, and I've been curious as to the difference people noticed between the two. I've read how the battery life is a little unstable (haven't really noticed that with alpha 12), and a few other things.
So, pardon me if this topic has been done already, but what are the benefits of upgrading from a version that already works for me? Does the wifi work better? Is the battery life---though unstable---still better under Final than it is under 12?
Thanks in advance, and kudos to the devs for an excellent ROM

Newer versions of alphas are usually going to be better...
With that being said Alpha final is much better. No more having to restart tablet because wifi won't connect and most importantly hardware video decoding. Cm 7.2 based.
Its overall better in ever single way however battery life is the same for me as it was on alpha 12

There's three main differences:
1. Hardware Video Acceleration - This is a HUGE one. In Alpha 12, HD videos wouldn't necessarily decode properly or quickly - they'd play jittery and pixel-y because of a lack of H/W Video decoding. The newest version fixes this for a lot of video formats. In my experience, it's been amazing, but as always, your mileage may vary.
2. Wi-Fi has actually been tweaked and improved, so it's a bit more stable.
3. Alpha Final is built from latest CM7 Sources - This is a big deal because it means that in theory it should be more stable and have a slightly more robust feature set. Most people won't notice a difference, but it still stands that the Final is using code that is far more up to date.
Battery life in my experience has been about the same, but I haven't had much time to test extensively since I'm busy with University coursework.
I highly recommend upgrading to the latest version though; without H/W video acceleration you'll notice a lot of annoyances and performance issues when playing videos.
Excellent! This is EXACTLY the info I was looking for. Thanks, guys

N.O.V.A 3

N.O.V.A 3 is playable. But pretty laggy when it comes to being played on CM7 Alpha. The gameplay is not smooth and becomes slow when facing the special effects and motion blur. In my opinion I don't think it's worth buying. Does anyone know if it runs faster on CM9?

there is no way it can run faster on cm9 because cm9 lacks hardware acceleration

Actually, the CM9 nightly builds include hardware acceleration, so it can be tested to see if it is faster (if you can get it to run before your device randomly reboots).

Yeah I knew that, I was under the assumption that the OP wanted to run NOVA 3 under a stable CM9 release aka the 2.6.x kernel based CM9.

Suggested ROM

Friend wants to update her phone to ICS or jelly bean. I am looking for suggestions to the LIGHTEST and FASTEST rom with the fewest if any bugs that anyone knows of. Theres a decent list here from what i see so any suggestions would be great. I am not looking for ANYTHING fancy or colorful or features. Features are great but as long as it dosnt hinder the speed.
Thanks for your time.
AtrICS v 2.0 by Team Hope is pretty decent. Not much experience with JB except epinter's cm 10.1, so i can't give any advice there either. I'd just download each of the ICS and JB roms and try them out and find out which one works better for you.

Thanks, bad part is its not my phone, i just know how to root / install these roms so i just want one that has the basic required upgrades. Ill try the ones you suggest. Thanks. If anyone else has something to say about a particular rom it would be greatly apreciated. Reliability and speed are number 1
In that case, stay with an ICS rom. Most are pretty stable, but will be more stable after kernel development is complete.

There should be a webtop with that rom. I don't quite remember, i was on that rom for a short time before going back to gb.
All other problems should be fixed with 2.6.39.4 kernel development (see atrix dev section, ics/jb kernel thread for dev status updates) and implementation in the boot img. Be patient, they're working on it

Your sugested ROM work the webtop with lapdock? and all teh other features work welll??
I am want use a stable ROM ICS( Ice Cream Sandwich) with fully work Webtop.
thanks
I tried Epinter CM10 and it is a great rom. Smotth, reliable and responsive.
BUT !!!! There is a "but". There is a lot of functions that do not work anymore due to a lack of tegra drivers for ICS / JB... :
- no video recording (except in a very bad resolution 640x480)
- no hardware acceleration so you cannot play your video on your mobile stored in mp4 (native cam format), mkv....
- games will have a strange behaviour (lag, screen scrambled...)
For this reasons, I comeback to Gingerbread ROM and I have a full useable phone !
Make your choice, but You will are not able to get all
If you can get away from the idea of wanting just a JB or ICS rom, I'd suggest Neutrino Rom. Its GB and really stable.
Any rom u install which is not GB is not stable
U can go with Epinter cm10 much stable but u cannot video record using the phone the battery is also good.
On other hand u want everything working u better want to stay with MRom

Standard versions of CM, MIUI, CNA, etc
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
Battery life is decent
Disadavantages:
No HWA, which means video recording doesn't work correctly, games with heavy graphic demands won't run decently (you can forget about running GTA III, for instance), Spotify won't show album thumbnails, and there will be some screen lag.
No fingerprint reader
Currently available HWA-accelerated versions of CM (such as AtrICS and any ROM running "That Kernel" or "Those Libs")
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
HWA is available, which means everything runs silky-smooth and beautifully
Disadvantages:
M I S E R A B L E battery life (as in fully charged to completely discharged in about six hours, even if you're not using it)
Video camera still has problems
Still no fingerprint reader
A Tweaked Gingerbread ROM (such as MROM, Neutrino, etc.)
Advantages:
EVERYTHING WORKS! INCLUDING THE FINGERPRINT READER! w00t!
Full HWA
Excellent battery life
The Holo Launcher makes everything look very ICS-ish
Disadvantages:
You're still running Gingerbread
Some apps (such as SoA and XDA Premium) won't work, because they're ICS or JB-only
RaiderDuck, you forgot the lapdock, other than that, your comment should be a "sticky", not that everyone reads them, but it would cut down on the GB vs ICS/JB questions that have been answered over and over.

Hearthstone playable on HP TouchPad w/ Android!

Using latest KitKat CM snapshot and sideloading the APK, I was able to test to see if Hearthstone would run on the TouchPad. Low and behold, it worked. Playable is how I would describe the experience. A little lag here and there, but surprising given how old this tablet is! Hope you fellow TouchPad'rs enjoy!
I need to update my HP. It is still running ICS I believe. When I tried to install it though, it gave me a space issue. I show 14gigs free on the tablet though. I think something else is conflicting.
Can confirm, running milaqs 4.4 build and game is very smooth, just lagging a bit in the menus.
A point to make, the TouchPad rebooted twice while running the game at 1.7 Ghz. Turned the cpu down to 1.5Ghz and everything is working fine
no need for sideloading, i noticed hearthstone appearing in the playstore natively
on ics/4.0.4
runs alright, highly playable, but noticeable dips in framerate
I have two Touchpads, one with ICS 4.0.4 (CM9-20130929 nightly) , the other with KITKAT 4.4.4 (jcsullins CM11-20141125). Hearthstone is stable and definitively faster on the KITKAT build, while it crashes now and again on the ICS tablet. My wife considers it barely playable on ICS due to the lag.
