im having a dilemma on what really should i get.. i've always wanted the mini pro because of its physical keyboard and it works best for me because i use sms most of the time, but the problem is the noise problem and the cases of unresponsive screen and capacitive buttons which SE has not resolved or did have a response yet. On the other hand after checking the ray forums, it seems that the ray among all the 2011 phones of SE has the least defect or almost perfect due to very few problems encountered..
please help me.. which i should i go for?
i have added a poll here just click there and if you have spare time just leave a comment thanks guys

Go for xperia mini pro. There is only noise problem. The capacitive buttons have no problem and the screen is super responsive. It'll play and win games even before you touch it.

Mini nonpro
I was in your same situation, and I just bought the Ray... it's damnly sexy XD and the screen is fantastic. I had an x10 mini pro, the lack of the physical keyboard isn't that big problem, I suggest you to buy the Ray, I can't stop watching it, wiht the screen off is a cool item to see on your board, thin, fast, and cool ^^
This should have been a poll
Xperia Ray. Had it for 2 weeks. Haven't had any problems with it.
The screen is also super responsive, contrary to what some have been saying.

The lack of the screen responsiveness (for someone) is caused by the damnly strong screen protector (and almost invisible) already sticked on the screen, if u remove it it becomes really responsive, but it's wery well applied, so isn't that bad. Every protector I sticked myself on my phones wasn't the best to look (and in less than a week I had to remove it cause the angles didn't stay down )
sry 4 my bad english XD
@Ray users
How is Ray's battery life?? Is it 1200mAh like the mini/mini pro or more??
Because I think that battery life is really important.
I believe that the only disadvantage of the mini/mini pro is the battery life. :/
lately i've been considering the ray but still my heart says go for the mini pro, but will SE fix the noise problem? how about the battery life? which has the greater one? because my x8's battery life really sucks and there are reported issues of the mini pro having a poor battery life. Battery life is very important to me
the battery of the ray is 1500mAh, and its life is really good, not epic but still better than the most of android devices, it's a huge battery for a so thin device, so, it gets my approvation ^^ (the galaxyS2 has got a 1600mAh battery...)
First i got the Mini Pro because i thought writing with the hardware keyboard would be easier. To be honest, at least for me, that wasn't the case. It's 1/3 heavier than the Ray and the shape gives my fingers pain while holding it in portrait mode. As noted, the battery life is also shorter.
I ended up buying the Ray and ever since i didn't even look at the Mini until i found a use for it again; testing the unlock bootloader option (using test point method) which leaves DRM intact. Now the Mini lays in some corner again until SE brings the 2.3.4 update to germany.
Hope that helped.
Ray, its got high res display thinner bigger screen and better camera

The Ray is WAY better phone than the mini
My only concern is the lack of auto-flash (light on or oight off only) but I guess the Arc's camera software could be transplanted to the Ray (crosses fingers)
guy i have the same problem. i cant decide wether to buy the xperia ray or the xperia mini(not pro). yet i own a k750i which has a perfect size for me. i dont know wether the mini is too small or the ray is too big. and the ray is very small. does it have a good handling? is the batterylife of the ray better than that of the mini? and will it give an update for the ray so that it has a flashlight for the camera? which phone woul you prefer.
thx for ur advices.
Ray = Better phone
Mini Pro = Small & Keyboard
Depends what you need. I hate bigass phones so Mini Pro is my choice
xperia mini pro
As my tagline,,, + for xperia mini pro - for xperia ray,,, i choose the xperia mini pro just because the fitur on it's phone is same as ray,,, it has 1ghz processor,,, bravia engine,,, 5 mp camera,,, it has secondary too hey it's cool man,,, different is the display,,, xperia mini pro only has 3" display but the phone has qwerty keyboard,,, so not too big problem i think,,,
sorry for my bad english

The Xperia Rays camera is 8MP, not 5 and the exmor sensor takes amazing videos at night even in VGA mode!!!
I got the Xperia Ray on the firt release date, and I throughly love this phone.
Wish there were custom ROMS for it out here though, would love to see what the devs can do with this little BEAST.
Only regret I have is that I should have chosen White rather than Pink.... I thought it looked more red at the time lol. Love the Phone non-the-less!!!
I had an X10 mini pro before the Ray, the thinness and the lightness of the ray makes it really confortable, where the mini pro wasn't much cause of its soap-size and weight

Thanks for your reply, please keep me posted !!
I have a crush on this phone, even w/o a keyboard I find it sleek and head-turner
A chick magnet
I have the x10 and a desire z, I ended carrying the D Z only due to the autoflash and QWERTY, but this Ray looks sleek
I considering to buy either an Xperia Mini Pro or the new Live Walkman (basicly the same phone but without QWERTY keyboard but with a 3.2" screen) for my girlfriend who has an iPhone4 right now. The reason is that she dislikes the weak signal reception of the iphone4 and some other minor things.
My questions for the Mini Pro and Live Walkman users are:
1. how is the signal reception?
2. is the screen too small if you go from an 3.5" iphone4?
3. how is the battery life compared to iphone4?
4. is the Mini Pro too thick?
Thanks
A comparison between xperia mini pro and iphone4 ?! :/
led zeppelin vs ricky martin ?
Signal is "normal", screen is smaller than iphone 4...seriously just send your gf to the nearest shop so that she can test it in her hands coz it's a real big change from iphone 4
Thank you but I will consider another phone. I just read a poll were 22 out of 31 people were not happy with the signal reception of the Mini Pro.

Yeah, I don't find it great either. But as a phone it's great (bang for buck wise).
My previous phone was LGP500 Optimus One, another example of a great bang-for-buck phone; I feel reception was better there. Plus, it's dirt cheap (but it's ARMv6 so no flash for you)
Anyone come from a Blackberry or were previously a blackberry user, comment on the keyboard of the Mini Pro?
I have test the xperia mini pro sk17 keyboard and a BOLD 3 keyboard, both are so ****in great, but the xperia mini pro keyboard is better, bigger, and is in a smaller phone
sorry for my english!
By Bold 3 do you mean the 9780 or the 9900?
are the mini pro keys clicky or more mushy?
how is the build quality, does it feel like a 'cheap phone'?
They give great tactile feedback. Clicky.
And I think build quality is really good, except that in closed form, the first 2 mm of opening could feel a little less soft.
Sent from my SK17i using XDA App
Here's my score after 1 Week of using a Xperia mini pro (sk17i).
I was using a LG o2x (optimus speed) before.
Hardware 8/10.
Pretty good for such a small phone, everyhing opens in a fraction of a second
It's strong enough to play psx emulators and N64 games, which is awesome.
Call Quality 7/10.
Pretty good here in germany. I've seen loads of people complaining about it, but it's fine here.
Physical Keyboard 9/10.
Best keyboard ive ever had on a mobile phone. Great pressure point, nicely illuminated. AND YOU CAN ****ING USE IT TO PLAY GAMES
The only downside: the first row of buttons is too close to the display-slider.
People with stubby fingers shouldnt get this phone, lol.
Screen 7/10.
Could use a few more options like turning off the ambient lightning, but it's great for such a small phone.
Battery 6/10
Lasts roughly 2 days with light usage. 1 day of heavy usage is enough to drain the battery completely. I believe i need to root it and uninstall all the crapware draining my battery life. It's okay though, i'm used to heavy battery drain, my optimus did the same.
Price 10/10.
Only 200€ for 1,2 ghz, 512mb ram and a 8Gb micro SD what more could i ask for?
The hardware is well implemented and the screen never lags for me.
Sadly it isnt made of gorilla glas, but i use screen protectors anway.
Overall 7,5/10
This phone is of course not made for multimedia lovers. It's a great device for people who text alot, play some games, do some calls and carry it around in their pants pockets. For my needs only, i'd give it a 9/10. 10/10 if SE
actually fixes some stuff like the ambient light sensor ****.
Plus, it's an eye catcher Everytime i slide out the keyboard people are like "ooooh show me your phone :O"
Hey,i have Live with Walkman and i think you should get it...
it's a good phone and has a reallyyyy great sound!
if she likes mousic she'll love it...all round it can do pretty much anything, play games with good quality/performance,it's very fast,5mp shooter with 720p video and led flash it's a great all-round phone, very complete...especially for the price!
Also it has good reception(not a problem to me with this phone)
the screen is just fine(i had a Galaxy S with a 4"inch screen before and i think it's display is quite good actually)
i use it all the time and the night only needs recharge(If you root it and use setcpu it can last even longer!!)
and finally it's quite slim and very very stylish...
Hope i've helped!!
After having the iPhone 4s, HTC Sensation and a few other phones in rapid succession I am extremely happy with the Ray.
In someways, after not being tempted by a Sony phone for many years, it represents a comeback to me.
Sony must find it tough in the current market. No unique OS and tough competition from HTC, Samsung and a bunch of others in the Android space.
HTC are well designed phones, Samsung strength is in battery life, screen and cpu as they make all of these.
Sony has had to look for niches as well as making the standard stuff. The x10, and latterly the Xperia mini and mini pro have carved a good niche as small phones with an optional keyboard. Probably their main competitors being the HTC Explorer and HTC Wildfire S. Recently Samsung has also made a few smaller phones but with lower resolution. The keyboard was genius as there is a strong minority of phone users that want a keyboard and the only competition is the HTC Chacha (status) with tiny screen, or the Samsung Galaxy Pro with low resolution screen.
The Xperia play has not been so successful until recently when its price came sharply down.
The Ray however is unique. Not only is it unique, it is beautifully and solidly designed, despite being all plastic (albeit with metal frame).
Why I like the Ray:
1. Design. Light and solid (nothing flexes)
2. Small but usable
3. Awesome screen quality
4. Not bad battery life
5. Every feature under the sun except for dual core (thank goodness - given the poor battery life of every dual core phone)
6. Sony customisations actually work well. I have no desire to run to stock Android (the only other manufacturer I feel this way about is HTC).
Why I rate it better then the Sensation:
1. Battery life
2. Size
Why I rate it better then the iPhone:
1. Small screen in small body. iPhone is oversized for the current screen dimensions
2. Android functionally more advanced then iOS now
All of these are great phones but after many Sony phones which I feel are "me too" products, I think Sony is finally getting the software right.
Obviously the Ray is not for someone who wants a big screen or has massive hands (although I would argue its the accuracy of the touch, not the size, that is important), but I would say that the Xperia Ray is genuinely a market leading product for what it is, and the only small smartphone that is fully functional and a joy to use! Definitely more then a sum of its parts!
I'd like to see NFC , HD Resolution and 3.5 inch screen! because its a ray :
-3.5 Inch Screen
-HD Resolution imagen the ppi!!!! current ppi of xperia ray is 296ppi bump to 416 ppi!!!
-Waterproof??
-1Gb Ram
-NFC
-Part of NXT series (plz?)
-1.5 Ghz Dual Proccessor
-Play Station Certified!
That would make an ultimate phone which is small thin and cute XD
Yeah, but Sony first has to invent a "Shrink"gun .... you know why
lolS but it may be possible in the future
You are aware of the Xperia U right ?
More like xperia SX. Too bad it is japan only.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/05/09/xperia-gx-and-xperia-sx-announced-by-sony-mobile-japan/
right
but what do you want to see in ray 2 or ray s or ray s2
This one looks quite the same as Ray but with better hardware:
Sony Xperia SX SO-05D
sorry, didn't check the entire page from previous SX link
yeah, the next Ray is SX.
If they release it world wide, the phone top will be narrower (without tv antenna) which is making the phone look surprising handsome
Xperia ion HSPA. It is goddamn cool.
Sent from my ST18i using Tapatalk 2
3.5', NFC, video-out, 1gb ram, dual core (open), hd screen, under 9mm
Physical aspect of the next ray that i want
- Same curve shape
- Small dimension (sx size is okay, just slightly bigger).
- Physical home button and button arrangement (It's better than the transparent strip of nxt series In my opinion)
- Dedicated Camera Button
It would be nice if we can have a small dedicated keyboard to plug inside micro usb slot and double as external battery/charger
I want Megan Fox in next version...

mm xperia SX, i love this phone, is the real succesor of the RAY.
Same design, more hardware.
Design makes it Ray. Not others.
1. Same size and body shape. Even 3.5" is much bigger. And current body style is very beautiful, distinguishable.
2. 1Gb RAM, maybe faster CPU - just to run ICS smoothly. Ok, let it be two cores, just because of current marketing trends...
3. Dust and water resistant. Without that ugly yellow/orange pastic/rubber everywhere, diving ability, IP67 etc. I just want to not be afraid of rain when I'm riding my bycicle, camping, sleeping drank on the street
4. Same MicroSD slot. I hate when they remove card support and put ugly 8GB of ROM inside, while my current music collection is about 10Gb. C'mon, guys, flash memory costs nothing now, why do you create such stupid limits?!
That's all. I don't need higher camera and screen resolution, better sound, camera button and so on.
Current Xperia model line doesn't contains something I can call "Ray 2.0". They do great top models, but it's too big for me. They do very interesting and fresh design, but use limited hardware (480x320 screen, limited ROM, 512 RAM...)
So Ray stays unique, stays best for my needs.
I too like the Xperia SX.
If they give it a slightly more angular look like the ray has then that'd be my next phone...
I was thinking ... hmm the ray would be a lot better with MHL, 1gb Ram and NFC... Ah hello Xperia SX
That said I'll be holding on to my Ray until christmas at least... Perhaps I'll take a Samsung GS3 at that time... Unless Sony sells the SX in Europe :-D
Does the SX have an Led notifier?
Hi,
I'm proud user of LG Optimus P990, fond of Django Manouche ROMs. Right now i must choose one of 3 phones. As I'm LG fan, the G2 Mini would be a nice shot as it looks as the freshest one from three below:
1. LG G2 mini LTE
2. Samsung Galaxy S4 mini LTE
3. Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE
Could You please help me and post some pros/cons for the above list? I'm considering rooted custom ROMs. I didn't see any for G2 mini for now...
Thanks in advance!
after my first hands-on, i observed that g2 mini's screen display isn't that good, i felt that there's a big gap between the touch layer of the screen and the display itself, which might also be the reason why the contrast isn't that good when you tilt the viewing angle.

Thanks, maybe the Gorilla2 feels this way?
What about screen responsiveness, does it feel smooth or laggy?
Is 1GB RAM enough?
Most of apps are single core and i didn't find any single-core comparisons... Does G2 Mini CPU - Quad A7 at 1,2GHz (MSM8926 Snapdragon 400) offer similar single-core performance to S4 Mini Dual Core 1,7GHz Krait (MSM8930 Snapdragon 400)?
it was smooth. of course the single core performance will surely win, g2 mini only has the power efficient as compared to th krait 300 of s4 mini.
benchmark wise, they are close to each other. s400 used here is enough for most applications and games.
anyway, gorilla glass used on high end phones are almost zero gap, this is the only disadvantage i saw on g2 mini as midrange phone, unsatisfied.
So i've chosen LG G2 Mini.
Runs smooth, screen is clear, colors nice. Only thing I've seen so far is that sometimes i'm unable to end the call, seems like the lack of response from screen.
Thanks for replies!

I got to agree with the screen response. Sometimes it's responding sometimes it's not though hopefully it'll get resolved on the next update.
