They told the carriers to f*ck off..

Or so it appears. They're launching the same phone on all networks, US and globally, with the only variation being radios and RAM. This might actually mean timely updates, no bloatware, etc.
My god. I'm a bit stunned. I was pretty sure I was going to get a GS3, but this might make it a done deal.
Knowing Verizon though, they'll find a way to mess it up. Fingers crossed they don't..

Well LTE doesn't work with quad cores so it will have to have a different processor.

2GB instead of 1GB of RAM. Another surprise.
I'm really disappointed in the GSIII in general. I had high hopes but it's nothing revolutionary. More like GSII.5

The Galaxy S series aka iPhone clone trololol. Should see all the people QQing about no quadcore . Not really impressed with the S3 to be honest. Most apps barely utilize 2 cores as is, there's not much UI difference between 1core and 2 cores. I've tested this out by forcing a core offline and dropping my speed down to 600mhz on my Nexus. Just as smooth with both cores forced online @ 1.2. It's a shame they're using the same screen on the Nexus for the S3. Gonna have a lot of people crying about pentile and vertical banding and image retention/amoled fatigue. Plus if there are going to be 5 different Nexus devices by 5 different manufacturers.. There goes the Nexus name . @ OP Verizon will **** it up. You can count on it.

Of course HTC will never be able to have the kind of clout Samsung does since there's people like you who buy into the Apple-level marketing craze. The less support the smaller manufacturers get the more you'll see Apple and Samsung resemble att and verizon.
Also, I really don't think even samsung by themselves can get past verizon the way apple does when a phone by both google and samsung can't even do that. The official update for the gnex was held up for FIVE MONTHS. If you're basing your purchase off of that then I bid you the best of luck.
Anyways, I own phones from all the manufacturers, and I don't want only two phone titans fighting it out. We already see the results of having essentially only 2 carriers and it ain't pretty. If the GS3 comes out b4 the shared data things goes into effect I'll probably buy the GS3, sell it, and save the money to see what else is in the pipeline.

Sour Grapes
I know this is an HTC phone owner's forum, but I think we have to give Samsung some props for being able to tell Verizon to **** off, either take the phone as we've designed it or don't take it and having Verizon cave, Verizon always controls the smartphones it releases with an iron fist and almost never releases phones with the same specs and layout as the other carriers.
The fact that they could do this, is a big win for any smartphone manufacturer, I'm sure a lot of us wish we had a HTC One X option, instead of them releasing the lame 4G incredible, I'm disappointed by the screen technology in the S3 but otherwise I think it looks like a great phone, it could be my next one, waiting to see what else is released before the end of the year.
As far as updates are concerned, sure Verizon will slow them down partly because their Verizon and partly because having a CDMA phone naturally slows down the process, Sprint's updates are slowed down for the same reason (maybe not to the degree of Verizon) and AT&T even though it's GSM and should be able to release updates quickly once available is just as slow as Verizon, I'm still waiting on an update for my S2 despite the fact that it's almost identical to the international version and I've been running a stable rom based on the international version for 3 months.
T-mobile is probably the best, the simple fact is that as long as carrier's control our phone updates, the updates will be slowed down by our carrier's, Verizon isn't special in that respect.
Also their's the manufacturer, everyone screams about the galaxy nexus update slowdowns on Verizon, which I'm sure are verizon's fault to some degree, but I also guarantee that google prioritizes the GSM version, because they don't need to get anyone's approval and then starts working on the verizon update, Sprint's ICS update for the nexus s was slow as well.
But I think the fact that all 4 major carrier's will have essentially the same phone will put some degree of pressure on Verizon to work to get the updates completed, and any pressure on Verizon to release updates is a good thing.
In my mind any Android manufacturer that pushes back against the carrier is a good thing for Android, HTC may not be able to do this at this moment, but if Samsung can do it and HTC keeps releasing phones that are worthy competitors to samsung phones like the One X, you may see HTC or other Android manufacturers successfully pushing back against the carrier's.
Did you guys see the drop test? I ain't getting near that phone.

HTC just announced one of the most highly-talked about devices during Mobile World Congress. Usually, we won’t see new phones from that show launch for several months. It’s sort of a preview of what’s to come, if you will. Today, a second report surfaced saying that TSMC, the alleged maker of the chips used for the phone, has halted production of its chips as of mid-February. So what? That’s before the phone was even announced. We don’t even have expectations yet as to when it will hit the market. Delayed? Not at all. Maybe TSMC hit a speed bump when it came to 28nm chip demand, but without a solid date provided by HTC already it’s hard to believe that there’s any delay at all. The One X will hit the market when it’s ready, and that’s good for consumers. We shouldn’t be covering stories in a negative light, which ultimately might lead consumers to think there’s something wrong with the phone, when there fundamentally isn’t.
just a shout out for people who thought it might come out soon.
there was a rumor that T-mo would be getting a Tegra 3 One X. It will be interesting to see how that is affected by these delays.

It's likely that if T-mobile gets a version, they'll get a Tegra 3 variant, instead of an MSM 8960 one. Although, Tegras actually don't have on-chip radio hardware.
I saw that on Phone GSM the phones Theoretical release date was April. IDK if it will even effect the release date. I have seen Jet Engines get halted in production and they can still roll out about a solid 1000 aircraft on release date... As to its not coming soon they could no something that we don't it could still be on a timely release.

lol true, I honestly don't care, im probably not going to buy the s4 version or even the tegra version. the mobile market is getting huge this year and the only thing on these phones that has caught my attention is the camera, software, and the polycarbonate design. other then that I have my eyes on the asus padfone, Panasonic eluga, and whenever nokia gets further into its pureview technology on upcoming WP update. im just going to wait and see what comes out later on if Sony decides to make a devices with 2012 hardware I would be sold in a heartbeat
I'd say it'd be awfully silly of nvidia not to consider designing for DC-HSDPA. LTE is understandable. This, less so.
I'm gonna wait for the next gen quads anyways, not entirely enticed by first gen anything ( I'm a hater I know )
Though I might have to reconsider if one of these new htc series drops as stock vanilla android on T-Mobile, love me the g series phones ( LG not included )

im not going to wait for next gen, we probably wont be seeing next gen ones in a long while anyways (unless you're talking about the exynos). im a huge fan of the tegra 3 and the technology NVidia put in it. they failed with the tegra 2 but stepped up their game with this. you can stream skyrim with NO lag at all from your computer with this chip, that's pretty good. im just not a huge fan of the devices that are coming out, im gonna wait till it hits more handsets.

if you ever had the atrix.... the screen was horrid, the fact that I had the first "qHD" phone made me happy but it looked worse than my old mytouch 3g. you could actually see the pixels. I honestly didn't know one person who liked it. whenever I upgraded to the sensation the difference was night and day. I don't see why htc would pick pentile. pentile displays have less sub-pixels which makes it pointless to be even called qHD.
edit: just remembered, the only good thing about pentile is that its good on battery life. id rather have not grainy pictures though. guess that my opinion. http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/2...x2-and-its-qhd-display-pentile-at-its-finest/

Some background on this video...
How these guys in Vietnam manage to do it is beyond me. Tinhte.vn has done it yet again. They have managed to get hold of the Galaxy S3 and did a short video of it, in HD and posted it on Youtube where it went viral before it was pulled down.
Since then, a number of reposts have been made by other parties which makes taking the video down more difficult if not impossible. Tinhte published the first unboxing of the iPad 3 (or new ipad), it was also the first website to come up with the white iPhone 4 with 64GB.
The video shows a phone that appears to be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with a similar system memory capacity, display size and resolution and OS. The onboard storage stands at 16GB, there's a quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, NFC, an eight megapixel camera and a 2050mAh battery.
This matches some sources which said that the Galaxy S3 would be an incremental improvement over the Galaxy S2 rather than a radical change.
The new phone appears to have dropped the slight bulge at the back and opted for a flat smartphone, certainly as a result of the case brought again Samsung by Apple over claims that the S2 was the thinnest phone in the world.
Read more: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/04/20/video-samsung-galaxy-s3-finally-emerges/#ixzz1sbXXXwCj
Meh. The video doesn't really reveal anything we didn't already expect. Plus, the phone is disguised in a generic case, so we can't see what the real design is going to look like.
The 2050mah battery is an improvement, but not what we need. We need something similar to the 3300mah battery in the Razr Maxx. Especially if it's not removable.
At this point, the only thing that will make me interested in buying this phone is if it ends up being bezel-less, and that is looking unlikely.
Why is this here?
And if those specs are indeed the real specs, Im glad Im jumping to the One X. The AT&T version will probably put in a Snapdragon processor for LTE (because every new smartphone has to have LTE now) and it wont have NFC due to AT&T pouring money into Isis. Incremental update indeed.

I'm really torn on what to do. I got my GS2 on the 9th so the One X release date is well within my 30 day return window. But to be honest, I'm sick of Sense and really had my heart set on the GS3.

Anyone put any thought into the blue and white puddles. Could it be a liquid metal type screen.....or the flexible screen. Just a thought i had for the hell of it.
Edit:
After looking around i see that Apple has an "exclusive commercial license to it"
Probably old news...so don't tase me bros....
Stay thirsty my friends
I say in a year and a half our phones will have 2 to 2.5x the power and capabilities we currently have - but I'm willing to bet batteries won't improve for 3ish years.
These things will be able to replace laptops and desktops through docks or projectors and better use of connected peripherals like virtual keyboards and wireless mice.
I'm betting 3.6-5ghz processors, 100-200gb space, faster/instant networking, full mobile gpu's and hacking will be more prevalent maybe even problematic to society.
Ah computers.

What, exactly, does this have to do with the Galaxy S II?
So my dad is considering switching over to vzw and getting a gs3, which is a huge upgrade from his old evo. He wanted to go see it and so did I so I tagged along. When we got there we started to look at it and I have to say both of us were impressed by it.
Now the first thing I noticed. While some rep was blabbing about the phone with my dad I was trying to get into the bootloader. Since I have never had a Samsung phone I had no clue and searching yielded no results fast. So I powered it off and pressed a bunch of buttons and to my surprise instead of a bootloader I saw the Samsung logo and underneath it was a little unlocked lock that read custom below it. I assumed it meant it was unlocked and I was way to shocked to take a picture.
Just a little surprise. Now on to the next thing.
I checked out the nexus and I was loving it until I brought up a white page and could see the home screen burned in an ugly yellow over the page. yuck. I honestly tried to give it a chance but that's disguisting.
Now the real gross part.
I moved even further down passed other stuff until I came to the so called "rezound killer" the DROID incredible 4G lte. It seriously made me cringe a little inside. The screen is so small and not as wide as the rezounds. Another thing: its not even that thin. It's definitely thicker than an iphone though. I couldn't test the weight because of the security thing which was huge on this device. Definitely a smaller downgraded rezound.
And that is my little trip to the Verizon store.
FYI the droid inc4g isnt a "rezound killer" its not supposed to be. the inc4g is target more as a mid tier device not a high end like the rezound is. all versions of this inc has always been targeted as a mid tier device. hence the smaller screen smaller form factor.
its not suppose to be better than the rezound..if your looking for a follow up to the rezound supposedly a new htc phone for vzw just got benchmarked and it follows the model number of the rezound.
what he said.
the inc 4g is actually a great phone, i've sold 3 within the past 24 hours already, and the people i sold them to LOVE it.
....plus, we make god damn BANK on the Inc 4g so i can guarantee reps are going to be pushing people into this phone like crazy. it's so cheap for stores to buy, and selling at 199 is a great price point. it's an awesome little phone, and if i could, i'd totally get one to run side by side with my Rez

Yeah that is fishy and considering most vzw reps know nothing about anything (excluding jayochs) I'm wondering if one of the smart employees played with it?
Gotta correct one thing - when the Og Inc lauched, it was a top spec phone, beaten only by its close brother the Evo in terms of screen size (but not resolution). The Inc was top tier, till VZ shoved their heads up their bums, and released crappy iterations there after.

The nexus screen sucks, just as you experienced. Pretty much all the hardware on that phone was outdated at launch. I still don't understand it. I know for sure our screen, camera, and radios are better. Now the GS3, I would buy that in a heartbeat if I had an upgrade and could keep my plan.
I think I'll stick it out until the next nexus drops, though. If cm9 ever gets sorted out for us, the wait will be easy.

Oh yeah. It is smooth as butter with JB. They really dropped the ball with the hardware. The GS3 should have been the Nexus branded phone. Let the crap hardware have TouchWiz.

why do you consider the dinc2 crap? I have 2 for the kids and the damn things just work. No custom anything and both after over a year are just as snappy as day 1.
Consider when they came out, lte wasn't mainstream, neither were dual core processors. Got a great little 4inch screen as well. Some people need to realize that not everyone wants a 1080p 5 inch screen on their smartphone... (I do of course, but we are the vocal minority)

Well, a year later, and the device has the same CPU, a weaker screen (OLED is nicer), less internal storage.. The droid x2 came out the same time and blew it away in performance. And the SII put it in its place badly in only a few months later. Nothing "Incredible" about it, unlike the original...

BAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA THE DX2 BLOWWWWSSS. I'd take a dinc 2 over my ol dx2 any FREAKING day! The dinc has a single core and 700mb ram but the processor is overclockable and it has full aosp roms. The dx2 has 2 cores and 512 mb of ram and it runs aosp roms with Backdoor patches and fixes. Hell, I'd take my old fascinate over that POS.

OK, so i was thinking about either getting this phone or waiting to see what shows up at CES.
I know CES is tomorrow so i was wondering if a phone that has better specs comes out.
If You guys can recommend a phone or even give a suggestion i would greatly appreciate it.
I'm used to the Motorola atrix 2 if that helps
I need it to be AT&T and be running at least ICS but preferably JB
I have to wait til March for an upgrade
Thanks
Oh and I bet you cant hit that THANKS button at the bottom left of this post
[PLEASE VOTE]
The LGOG has ICS but runs like JB. Imagine the power it'll have when it gets JB.
The way mobile technology has been speeding along, by March, something with better specs will definitely be out/announced. Then you'll just have a short wait till you can get your hands on it. Today, I would absolutely recommend this phone. Best specs out there but, cmon, by March you probably need to be looking ahead.

In all honesty... I would wait to take a look at what the Galaxy S4 will bring since you have to wait until March anyway.
Galaxy S4 will have a huge selection of accessories and ROMs
However,
I have chosen the LGOG for the following reasons:
1. My upgrade was close to its release.
2. I paid $100 for a phone-beast.
3. It is the first quad-core phone with LTE on AT&T.
4. The display is not 5 inches or more.
5. It is basically a nicer Nexus 4. (I have learned that hardware as close to the current Nexus device as possible is a very safe bet)
6. The last phone that I though was this sexy was a Nexus One. This thing is gorgeous.
thanks guys
Thank you to all who replied
I think all the wow factor phones are getting held up for mobile world congress next month. All I really saw so far that was interesting was the new xperia ZL or whatever it was, but given sony's track record there will be an updated version by march.

If you're going to be waiting until spring, I'd keep my eyes out for devices using the upcoming SnapDragon 600 or 800 processors that were just announced. The specs on these chipsets are amazing...40 to 75 percent more powerful than our Snapdragon S4 Pro processors.

I won't ever consider a Sony phone, especially on AT&T, given that their phones come with locked bootloaders that can't be unlocked. International versions are easily unlocked. By Sony. Just not the US versions. I should know, I had a Sony Xperia Play phone for a while and I recently returned an Xperia TL.

The thing that kills me, and this isn't an attack, is that a lot of people are like "I would NEVER get this phone because it's made by this!"
Like me, I personally don't like Samsung. And I make it a point to not buy their phones.
Sony's I have no experience with and I've only had an LG twice (this phone and a flip phone when I was 14).
But my point is people say they hate LG for whatever reason and then sell this phone and by the N4, which yknow, made by LG.
Again, not at attack! I was simply doing research on when the N5 was coming out and all these people are like, I HATE LG, NEXUS ALL THE WAY (sent from my N4). It's just laughable.

FWIW, they did much better. Their newest Xperia Z(L) looks like magnificent work of art.
As long as you're waiting, see what the S4 has to offer. Samsung's have custom ROM's about 7 hours after the first go on sale. Also, by then, the development on this phone should really be kicking into high gear (knock on wood). Also, you might catch wind of the LGOG2 then.
However, at some point there is about only so much power you're going to need in a handset that everything else becomes overkill. These phones are almost as powerful/fast as a mid-level laptop, but you don't want to type out a long word doc on them or edit an excel file. Finally, this will probably cost a coke and a smile by then compared to the S4 or LGOG2.

Yeah, I love the aesthetics of the xperia phones... haven't looked that one up yet though.
I would never judge a phone by it's manufacturer.
Look at Motorola. We went from the original Verizon Droid to the piece of sh**t Backflip on AT&T. Then we have the Atrix 4g, which in my experience had nice specs, but overall was a terrible quality phone.
HTC use to be the kind of Android phones, and now they have dropped off. (Look at their latest earnings).
Also do not forget the earliest Android offering by Samsung that I can remember - Samsung Moment for Sprint. That thing was all kids of ugly and slow.
I used to work for an eBay reseller, and played with 100 - 150 phones per day. Manufacturer is really irrelevant. You have to look at the unit as in individual.
I've had the DNA since day 1, and I really like it. I'm one of those guys that likes to have the latest and greatest phone, and was excited when the S4 was first announced. But seeing as how it's just a quad-core, not an octa-core, my excitement has weened a bit. I'm really trying to decide whether or not I should upgrade. The only pluses I see from the S4 are expandable memory, better battery, and the camera. I also kind of like how the LED screens look. I don't really care about the special bells and whistles. ( Eye detection, touchless answering, ect)
I know this is a the DNA section, so most of us are biased, but in reality, should I upgrade or just hold onto my DNA and wait for the next big thing?
It sounds like a feature packed phone, however I would probably end up disabling most of them. If you really want to use an external sd card and removeable battery then the S4 is for you.
Don't feel disappointed because it doesn't have the Octo-core, I can't think if any situation that would need that much processing power. However there was a review that said the S4 wasn't as smooth/snappy as the One and this was blamed on Touchwiz and all those extra features in the phone.
I've always been a die hard HTC guy, coming from the Incredible to the Rezound and finally the DNA. However, I did have a brief Samsung affair...in between my Rezound and my DNA I had a Galaxy S3, and I really liked it a lot. There was just something about it that I really loved...I couldn't put my finger on what it was.
But when the newness wore off, I was left with a device I had to use day in and day out, and relied on to make and receive calls. That's where the Samsung started to show its weakness. After that experience, combined with the experiences some friends and family had with their Fascinates, there's no way I'd give up my HTC for a similarly spec'ed Samsung. Their components just aren't as good, especially their radios.
I have no doubt the S4 would be an amazing device and you'd surely love it, but in the end when the honeymoon is over, you'll have a very marginal spec upgrade over the DNA and you'll be stuck with Samsung's mediocre internals.
Just my two cents.
I do like the S4 (and S3), but the only reason I would switch is for removable memory. But the fact is that I stream all of my music and movies... that leaves me more than enough room for anything else.
Love my DNA until the new hotness comes out.

You can't use all 8 cores at once anyway. It's 2 separate 4 core processors, 1 4 core high power one and a 4 core low power one.
The majority of the new features on the S4 are really gimmicky. Hover instead of touching the actual screen, moving your head up and down to scroll. All sound fun, but in real life are completely useless and more work than the normal way of getting stuff done on your phone. So really it'd just be a matter of specs, in which case the S4 in my opinion doesn't have a lot over the DNA.
probably shouldnt expect completely unbiased reviews from a dna forum.
ask the same question in the s4 forum and you'll get different answers and maybe a response from somebody who switched from dna to s4 and why.
good luck.
No reason whatsoever

One word.. "resale". The sooner you upgrade, the more money you get. The easier it is to stay on top of the cell phone game.
Plus, galaxies seem to hold their value a little better than HTC.

That's sort of what I was thinking. But even if I get $350-$400 for my DNA, I still have to spend a good bit for the galaxy. Retail on those is pretty steep.
The overwhelming adaption from devs, removable battery/storage will do it for me.
The thing that pushes it over the edge is that all models (except AT&T's, and the ones that have shown up so far) have unlocked bootloaders from the get-go in true Samsung style.

AT&T doesn't, but all of the rest are. While that doesn't give good hopes for Verizon, since it hasn't actually shown up yet to anyone, even if it is locked, it wouldn't be very long before it's cracked open.

If it comes to Verizon expect it to be locked.
I'd hate to have to switch carriers because of locked phones. I will go back to Sprint if I have too. Find out in October when all of my contracts will be up. Verizon LTE is great but I don't use it enough to suffer with Verizon's BS not sure who they think they are but they aren't the only wireless carrier in the US.
