Hi
I just did a stock restore after my brother destroyed my ne sg3!
Everything seems to work perfectly, ebut not the messages! It crashes before it even opens! Please help
I have tried to clear cache and data from the task manager but it still crashes!
Is there any other solution besides using another messages app, or restoring the phone again? like an original sg3 messages apk file or something?

Unfortunately for you, a hard reset is probably the easiest way. Then do an app/data restore from Titanium again, but DON'T restore system apps this time!
can someone please post a messaging system app from titanium on sg2 so i can restore that?

You'll need to put this in the system/apps folder to reinstate it, but this may not fix the problem as there may be associated files that you also need. Only 1 way to find out
mmm, i sent it to myself in a email and downloaded and installed over the top, but still no good.

You'll need to hard reset then. Since you have a backup to restore, it'll only take 5 minutes. Like I said, just don't restore system apps.
ill try one more thing, installing root explorer and see if i delete all the old stuff and install then.

You're not actually trying to install the apk by running it, are you?
tried to haha. but now i deleted the original via root explorer then uploaded the one you gave me back in there
didnt work gahh. it doesnt think the app exists now..
I hate to sound like a broken record, but do a hard reset. If you'd have done it earlier, you'd be using your phone by now
- how do i do a hard reset?

I recently changed to an ICS ROM (Ressurection). I cant get push notifications to work. They work until I do a restore of all my data in Titanium Backup. Then nomore push notifications. I checked the accounts and they are set to sync. I cant find background data setting in ICS settings. Is there any cache or something I can clear to try and fix this? Thnx
I have the same problem on my O2x.. some apps told me that my device does not support push notifications.. strange from 4.0.4

Any luck with this? I have the same problem on a 4.0.4 ROM on my GSII SR....
I suggest you do a fresh wipe and flash etc to get it working again, and then only restore your apps via T Backup one by one, testing in between. Restore your most important apps first, to see if they are the culprits.
Don't restore any system (red coloured) app! But I assume you know that.
If you find the 'culprit' app, let us know, and uninstall it, test your push notification-ness again, and only restore the app without the accompanying data...
Don't know if there's a better way?

I made it work by deleting+readding gmail acc and clearing Google framework cache. Works well since then.

I've just flashed SuperNexus and backed up all my apps + data for the first time, it's going through each app one by one on the installation, I assumed it would do it all in one go, is this normal? or have I done it wrong haha?
edit2: after restoring apps + data I just keep getting spammed with messages like "unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped" when I try open contacts, phone etc it says the same message, halp what have I done wrong? my phone keeps crashing cause of everything not working
i cant send a text or anything! even when I receive calls it comes up, some apps work fine and the data is there but most important functions just do not work, can anybody please help me ?

You might try going in recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache, fix permissions and reboot.
Don't restore system data, and to batch restore apps you need the pro version
I just wiped the caches and nothing changed. If I reflash and restore just apps will I lose the data for the apps? Like saves etc

No, you can restore user apps and it`s data. You will not loose anything.

Yes, but you should be okay to restore data for the apps, but don't restore system data across roms.

Great!
I just reflashed and just did missing apps + data and all works fine, my save game on final fantasy 3 is still there
Good job I saved contacts to SIM or it would of been annoying, thanks everyone!
I thought I bricked it last night too lol, I was flashing "UltimaROM" and was instructed to wipe the phone with his custom installer using Super Wipe. I did that and it just froze, was making no progress at all so I turned it off. It kept rebooting over and over and wouldn't get into recovery mode for ages but it eventually did.
Can anybody answer my kernal question? Is it safe to flash a custom kernal after ROM? I only ask because I read somewhere certain kernals/rom flashing causes a "brick bug" or something

U don't it just doesn't use hypershell so you have to confirm each separate installation.

Hello All,
I have galaxy ace duos and accidentally deleted stock messaging app, used for a while handcent sms and go sms pro, but for ten days I can't send a single message with this two applications. I can receive sms though.
Can someone help me to bring back stock message app because that one always worked smoothly.. Gingerbread 2.3.6 is the version off course.
Thanks in advance.

You are rooted right? Then don't you have Titanium Backup installed? Would've been a walk in the park with it. Otherwise look through the forums of the device for it. If nothing else works you will have to factory reset. But it would probably be better to try clearing data of go sms and handcent sms first. maybe that will get them to work.
1. Follow this YouTube video.
2. If you're not from India, download the package corresponding to your region from this link and flash via ODIN - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832071
3. You will lose all your data as you are reverting to stock, so make proper backups of everything important.
Thank you both for your replies.
I've cleared data for handcent and go sms apps but it didn't help.
I've already done factory reset but mms.apk wasn't in system/app folder, so I took one from galaxy ace and put it into my phone, permissions set to rw-r-r, but there is no messaging app where it should be.
Any more suggestions?
anyone, please?
I knew that won't work for you because you might put an incompatible Mms.apk. That's why I pointed you to restore to stock. I first tried finding CWM flashable zips of the stock ROM to get the apk for you but I couldn't find them easily. I don't think you've put the right apk in, that's why it's not showing. If it is the right apk but still not showing, you probably need to run 'fix permissions' in CWM recovery, which I don't think you have installed on your phone (according to your post, you've only rooted your phone and nothing else).
Read my previous post. I mentioned that the method I linked to is different from factory restore. You deleted the apk from the /system partition. If you factory restore, only the /data partition is wiped and /system stays intact. So even then, the apk will be missing. Follow the links I posted. Restoring to stock via ODIN is different from factory restore as ODIN first fully wipes all partitions of your device and then flashes the downloaded stock ROM image onto it. In this way, a full image of the /system partition is freshly restored, and includes the messaging apk. You see how it's different from simply doing factory reset on the phone?
I've returned a stock messaging app by flashing stock rom but all data is intact, so i have both, stock messaging app and all applications which i installed before flashing.
So it's all good now then? Cool. The stock ROM you downloaded doesn't wipe data, that's why all your apps are intact. From what I have seen, there are stock images for your phone which wipe data and ones which don't.

Yeah, thank you for your help again. I have all data, everything works fine, except handcent sms and go sms, but I will use stock msg app from now on.

i think i read this somewhere before that the error has something to do with the contacts sync. you can try going into settings>apps>all>google contacts sync>clear data. if that doesnt work you can also try clearing the contacts storage data as well. and then just sync your contacts again.
i also saw this online......if your using facebook: Settings>Accounts and Sync>Facebook>uncheck Contacts
hope this helps...
Backing up and restoring apps, sms, etc.. is the best way to quickly start using your newly flashed ROM, unfortunately, most devs on here DO NOT recommend that for the simple fact that it causes many issues such as the one you are experiencing now.
However, I've found what seems to be a fix: {Good Luck}
Do you have your contacts backed up?
Try uninstalling Facebook if that is installed. If this does not fix your problem then try the following.
Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Sync Adapter and press Clear Data, this error usually goes away. If this doesn't work, try clearing the data on Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts or Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Storage.
If problem is fixed, then restore contacts and reinstall Facebook and make sure you don't sync contacts with it.
