Hello,
I have this question...
I have:
* Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) running CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0.4).
* On the phone the Google Chrome Beta for Android.
* I have 2 Windows 7 Ultimate running Google Chrome dev channel. In both computers I'm loggin to Google Chrome (not only Gmail, the sync feature of the software).
The thing is this:
I only see the "Mobile bookmarks" on the Google Chrome Beta (on the phone) and also in only one of the Windows 7 computers.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong in the other computer? I want to see the "Mobile bookmars" in the 3 devices: 2 Windows 7 and 1 Android phone.
Thanks!

No ideas?
Still did not find the solution
Could "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID" = 0 cause the problem?
I got the exact problem: 1 phone (ios 5.1.1), 2 computers (win7pro 64bit) - one of the computers does not show or sync "Mobile bookmarks".
I tried the following without any luck:
- Clearing Chrome Sync using Google Dashboard and reconnected all devices.
- Connecting the 3 devices in different order combinations.
- Reinstalling both iOS Chrome and Win Chrome several times (using Revo Uninstaller).
- Disabling Chrome Sync for 1 day in domain controls hoping it would reset the sync.
It is always the same computer not showing or syncing "Mobile bookmarks".
I also tried the following without any luck with the problematic computer:
- Installing Chrome Beta (Clean install using Revo Uninstaller)
- Creating a fresh windows account, installing Chrome and connecting the 3 device.
- Connecting through LAN 2 port in case the Chrome Sync remembered the MAC addresse.
- Manually edited the bookmarks forcing bookmarks into "Mobile Bookmarks" folder.
I even tested a completely different Google Apps account on the problematic computer and yet it does not show nor sync "Mobile bookmarks".
Accessing "about:sync" > Sync Node Browser in Win Chrome reveals that "Mobile bookmarks" gets synced correctly, but I notice that all mobile bookmarks get the same "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID" with the value of "0". Looking at the bookmarks file on the problematic computer I also notice that "Mobile bookmarks" folder should have a "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID" of 3. This means that both the "Mobile bookmarks" folder and the bookmarks contained by that folder get the same "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID". This might be the problem.
Looking at the computer where Chrome Sync works, each bookmark within the "Mobile Bookmarks" get a unique "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID" and the folder get a value of "3".
My guess is that there is something wrong with the way that synced bookmarks within "Mobile bookmarks" gets assign from the Sync Node to the bookmarks file. I just have no idea why...
Any help is greatly appreciated...
Great investigation.
I have the same value 0:
Code:
ID 785
Modification Time martes 1 de mayo de 2012 19:27:39
Parent 3
Is Folder true
[B]Title Synced Bookmarks[/B]
Type Bookmarks
[B]External ID 0[/B]
Predecessor 792
Successor 0
First Child 2269
Also, for me the "mobiles bookmarks" at the chrome://sync/ is called as "Synced Bookmarks".
Strange?
i've the same problem, switching to a new macbook and mobile bookmarks is missing. any solution yet?
Mine are also called "synced bookmarks".
The "Mobile bookmarks" are called "synced bookmarks" in the Sync Node Browser under "about:sync" in Chrome and in the bookmarks file in "C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks".
I have run out of ideas - last resort is to reinstall system and see what happens, which I am not prepared to at the moment.
Just to clarify, you aren't looking for this right?

Yes! I don't have that on every computer I have installed Chrome for PC.

I've tried that... I'd reinstalled the whole Windows 7, and still don't have the "Mobile bookmarks".
BTW, I'm using Chrome dev channel (21.0.1180.15 dev-m).
Let's post specs...
Strange that reinstalling did not work - thanks for letting me know. Then I don't have to think about that.
- I also tried renaming my computer, thinking Chrome Sync somehow remembered devices based on name. It did not change a thing.
- I also tried copying the entire installation folder from the working computer to the problematic computer. Still, nothing changed.
Let's posts some specs:
Working:
MacBook Pro 13" (early 2009): Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Bootcamp: Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Up to date).
Problematic:
Mac Pro (early 2008): Dual Quad-Core Xeon, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Bootcamp: Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Up to date).
Please post your specs of your working and problematic setups.
I have this problem too. I'm missing that 3rd root folder in the bookmarks manager, which *should* be able to be accessed with chrome://bookmarks/#3
I notice that URL #1 corresponds with "Bookmarks Bar", #2 Other Bookmarks, #4, #5, and so on correspond to any folder under the root "Bookmarks Bar" folder.
I'm not sure there is a problematic setup.
I have a Windows 7 64 Enterprise that used to work, and the other day I had to reinstall Chrome... And now is not working.
Also, on a Windows 7 64 Ultimate... Never worked.
I could add that on my Samsung Galaxy S2 running CyanogenMod 9, I never got the "Mobile bookmarks" on the default browser.
Right now is only working on a Windows XP old notebook.
The numbers you mention floepie, correspond to the "LOCAL_EXTERNAL_ID" found in the Sync Node Browser.
- I tried manually entering "chrome://bookmarks/#3" into the browser, nothing shows (which makes sense looking into the bookmarks file as no bookmarks are placed in the "Mobile bookmarks folder")
- I tried manually entering "chrome://bookmarks/#0" into the browser, still nothing shows despite all "Mobile bookmarks" and the folder having a value of "0".
Creating bookmarks or folders in #0 is not allowed and they are probably removed when the Sync Node tries to create them.

Sounds like it could be related to newer Chrome versions. I think I setup Chrome Sync on the working computer at version 19, then it updated silently. I believe that the problematic computer was already updated to version 20 when I tried to setup Chrome Sync. Not sure though...

I believe the same.
Because no matter how many times or how many ways I install now Chrome... I never get the "Mobile Bookmarks" folder back.
I have exactly the same problem.
"Mobile Bookmarks" is missing in one of my desktop PC, even if it is apparently synchronized if I look at
about:sync -> "Sync Node Browser" -> "Synced Bookmarks"
I am using the same Chrome version
20.0.1132.47 beta
in all my computers.
The folder "Mobile Bookmarks" is visible in two of my computers and missing on the third one
This is really odd, as the very folder you would want the most to be synced is the one that isn't available in Chrome within the bookmarks folder. I'm not sure if it's by design, as on one hand they are indeed being synced so that should you ever lose them, they will be available, but on the other hand, because you can't sort them on the device and neither of course on the desktop, you would think big G would allow at least for *some* control either in one place or the other.
For those that have the 3rd root folder intact, are it and its contents assigned a value other than 0?
Partially solved...
I seem to have partially solved the issue.
The issue is caused by Chrome Release 20.
Installing Chrome Release 19, and turning off Auto-Updates before start I was able to get "Mobile bookmarks" syncing correctly on the problematic computer.
Let me know if this works for you.
(Apparently I cannot post links on the forums yet - please edit links)
Download Chrome Release 19

Turn Off Auto-Updates

Let's hope Chrome Release 21 fixes the syncing issues so we can turn on auto updates again and have Mobile bookmarks syncing and the latests version running at the same time.

As of about a week ago the browser sync on my device has been failing. I am running ICS via the latest CM9 nightly on my Samsung Galaxy S II (i9100T).
Chrome Beta bookmarks sync fine, it's only the builtin browser that is failing to sync. I would use Chrome Beta if I could but it's so damn crash-happy that it's unusable (I assume it's a CM compatibility problem that isn't resolved yet).
Anyway... Here is the relevant log entries from a failed browser sync attempt:
I/BookmarksSync( 5112): Sync failed due to soft error: Reader: Protocol (soft) error: Truncating server changelist after 260 items, as the changelist contains more than one entry with a given remote id: Z:ADqtAZy+M2N65xx6fxN82TxDitLVtIkXCgmtSFp8W2tkH0CkJn0/Jcg8vDEWpzXibMIJcCZ0FdLOu2YpKahtQz5TqasLlCiDZDhnESZ7grZisodhrY++D+I=
D/SyncManager( 1840): failed sync operation [email protected] (com.google), com.android.browser, PERIODIC, earliestRunTime 698024, SyncResult: stats [ numIoExceptions: 1 numEntries: 260]
Basically it's just that over and over again. I've tried clearing the data in the browser app settings then resyncing, and I have also confirmed that on my PC my settings are set to encrypt passwords only (as a google search revealed some people had issues when encrypting everything).
So, I'm out of ideas. Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be much appreciated as I'm a heavy user of my device and being unable to access my bookmarks is quite frustrating.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry I can't help you but I am getting the same error myself. Hopefully someone can help us out. My browser hasn't had a successful sync since the 12th, 6 days ago...
And like you, Chrome works just fine. I'm on a transformer prime fwiw.
Having the same issue on Galaxy Nexus running AOKP M4. For me it seemed to start around the same time that I changed one of my Chrome browsers to the beta channel, but I didn't notice it for a few days. Once I did notice it, I immediately removed the beta channel version and replaced it with a stable, then deleted all my chrome sync info from the Google dashboard, re-synced from a different copy of Chrome (which was always the stable version), then erased browser app data on my phone and re-tried the sync. Still fails.
My best guess is that the beta version of Chrome did something to the data that is unsupported by the ICS sync service. By the time I caught it, that "something" had been synced out to my other browsers, meaning my data is now permanently "corrupt" or something. Which is awesome and, short of starting from scratch, probably unfixable. However, the Android version of Chrome still seems to sync fine, so this is mostly just really, really annoying, and I can hold out hope for an official fix. In the meantime, I've disabled the browser sync because it seems to use a lot of battery power when it fails (that's actually how I noticed... looking into strangely high battery draw).
But has anyone else who has seen this error done anything similar?
Well, I managed to fix my problem. The issue was that somewhere in all of my Chrome syncs I managed to create a bunch of duplicate bookmarks. Specifically, I reorganized my bookmarks at some point into folders, and somehow they all reappeared in their original locations in addition to the new location. After re-removing all of the old links, deleting everything from the dashboard, re-syncing, and clearing my Android browser data, sync is working fine.
You can find the duplicate items by taking the id in the logcat message and putting it in the search box available in desktop Chrome under about:sync. Takes awhile to fix that way though, because the sync will only give you one id per failure. I was lucky that most of my dups were easy to find.
I have three root folders in Chrome for Android: Other, Desktop, and Mobile Bookmarks. "Other" and "Desktop" sync to Chrome's desktop counterpart. But, how does one get the Mobile Bookmarks folder to sync, which incidentally is the default folder opened in the browser? Presumably, this is the folder that you would most likely want to have synced, no?
And, for those bookmarks I have indeed saved on the device to the "Mobile Bookmarks" folder, I can't for the life of me figure out how to sort them. Yet, the other two seemingly less important root folders can be sorted with a simple automatic sync using the desktop Chrome version.
Solution!

After upgrading to official ICS, I downloaded Chrome on my AT&T Galaxy Note and tried to sync with Chrome on my Mac and PC.
The first sync works and I can see all my Mac and PC bookmarks in my Galaxy Note. However, after that, it stop syncing. In ICS Chrome, it shows that last sync has been "14 days".
I am not sure if this is PC, Mac or Android Chrome issues, but I am wondering if anyone who have the same setup as the above can give some insight.
This is what I have seen:
1). Mac <-> PC sync successful - added 1 bookmark in Mac shows up in PC and vice versa
2). Mac <-> Android sync successful - subsequent sync does not happen - adding 1 bookmark in either Mac or Android doesn't show up in another
3). PC <-> Android - same as no. 2

Go to the setting and click your account and see "sync" is on and "chrome to mobile" option is checked.
If you haven't touched any network settings, try this:
sign off your chrome and then go to app manager on setting and clear cache then sign in again.

I did that and still not working. But I realized it seems that the problem lies on Chrome for Mac. The sync works on PC but not on Mac - tested this on 3 different Mac (Air, Pro and Air), all running 10.6.x and 10.7.
Anyone have issues with Mac too?
Apparently Chrome ALWAYS have issue syncing data between PC <-> Mac <-> Android, judging by the number of questions posted on the Internet. Just like the N7 order.. Google is not saying anything on this.
So I gave up on this and just went back to Firefox... at least the sync work.
It's surprising that no one in the Note forum is using Chrome... maybe it is a sign that it's a bad browser?
I have motorola defy running CM10, and I can sync chrome bookmarks using chrome for android. But the app is a bit laggy on defy, so I am using stock android browser and here is a method to sync bookmark between chrome browsers and android browser:
When you go to Android browser it only shows your local bookmarks. Whenever you try to go to settings -> accounts and sync it says that there is a problem in Sync Browser, yet it doesn’t say what exactly the problem is. If you have faced this problem here is the solution you were continuously looking for.
How to Fix Sync Browser Problem in Android?
I identify this problem as a bug when interfacing different Google products. The root cause of problem is Google desktop browser supports encryption for all data types while Android browser supports only for passwords. If you have already encrypted entire data only thing you can do is clear all the data and start it again with only password encryption. Here is how to do it and sync Chrome bookmarks with Android browser.
Go to Google Dashboard confirming your password.
Scroll down to section chrome sync and click on Stop sync and delete data from Google.
This will delete entire synced browser data in Google account and it might take few minutes.
Now open Google chrome, go to Settings.
There you can find sign in section. Click sign in to chrome. Here you will have to generate Application specific password if you have enabled Two Step verification.
Then it will take you to Confirm sync settings window.
Click advance and make sure you have selected encrypt passwords only. If you encrypt all synced data android browser won’t be able to work with them.
Click OK to proceed with syncing.
In your android Smartphone go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> browser and Clear data.
Now go to Settings -> Accounts & sync. You will be able to see Sync browser is working fine now.
Open the browser and go to Bookmarks. Now you can see all the Bookmarks that you have in desktop browser in your Android Smartphone browser as well.

I had this issue before, i did what you said, it worked. Now just few days ago, as i wiped chrome sync/restarted it, the stock browser sync started to fail again.
Problem is i DID NOT select ENCRYPT ALL, only passwords, yet it definitly refuse to sync, no matter how many time i delete/restart sync on chrome, wipe data on android..
I know it's an old post,but... Thank you! This thing bothered me for last week.I didn't do anything, just changed rom from cm10.1 to paranoid and this sh.t happened.

This sync browser solution it's only for Android 4.0 and 4.1 not for gingerbread.
You need to use an special .apk that is men't to do just that. I thinkbit called ChromeBookmarSync.apk or something like that. Just google "AOSP browser without root" and you will fibd it. I can't give you any links becouse im on mobile, but you will find it.

Hi
I have 5 devices.
A. WIN 10 laptop
B. WIN 7 laptop
C. ASUS Android 4.4 Tablet
D. GALAXY S8 +.
E. Galaxy POCKET NEO Android 4.1.2.
On all devices the sync works fine, except the last one the sync of the Google account works fine only the sync of the chrome does not work (until how long ago it worked), if I enable the sync of chrome via settings> Accounts> Google> (my account)> the device shows That it works, but when I open the sync chrome is automatically disabled, (when I open the settings in chrome it "thinks" non-stop) also that it did not sync at all, i.e. it will not import any bookmarks.
Well then what I tried:
A. Log out of Google Chrome account and log in again.
B. Remove the chrome and reinstall. It goes back to the manufacturer version, then I installed the current version 42.0. (Sync did not work in the manufacturer version either)
C. I tried to find something in Chrome experiments, (CHROME://FLAGS) I tried a few things, and it did not help.
What else can be done?
Hi, try upgrading to Android 5.1.1 unofficially, android 4 is discontinued by google
