So we know the Note can work on Tmobile's network.. as well as HSPA+... And for $60 tmobile offers Prepaid Unlimited everything 4g.. although 4g cuts out at 2gb then on to 3g... well just wondering if anyone's done this? Are the sim cards the same size.. and is it possible to port a phone# to a tmobile prepaid plan? I know I could possibly find this info if I dug around but I'm on the road and shouldn't be even writing this.. can't beat speech to txt..

I just moved from att to t-mo's $30-100min- unlim. text and data monthly 4g plan. The sim is the same size- standard. When you get your plan activated, you will be assigned a number. When you are up and running on t-mo, you need to call their porting number. They will get it rolling, and in 2-24 hrs depending, your att# will be active on the t-mo sim and your att sim will be dead. Your att account will also be dead. Your old t-mo # will be replaced by the att #. Order your sim online for $1.99 from t-mobile.com. Make sure you get the whole activation kit. You can only get the 100 minute plan online. The other 4g monthly plans you can do over the phone.
And please don't text and drive!

Hi Sashusmom!
Agree with you. Good place to post a reminder like that, considering EVERYONE who comes here has a phone, and prolly more than half "text & drive"... Driving & Texting is like suicide/homicide without "making the plans".... Its a numbers game, with every text you send/read while driving, your odds increase for a disaster...

Thanks for your post, i have a few Q's:
1. Did you have to change the APN Settings?
2. And this was on a AT&T Note, not the Int'l version?
3. And what happens if & when u DO run out of min?
3B : ) Is there a way to add min?
4. Can this be done same on Int'l Note?

Yea Im wondering about this plan as well Im guessing I need to get my phone unlocked before going to tmoble if I have the ATT note

thanks for the reply's... I think I'm gonna do this, also I am currently with Sprint paying 99 for the unlimited everything plan.. plus premium 4g..plus tax.. plus insurance makes my bill around $118... So I'd be saving a great deal on either the tmobile4g prepaid or with Straight Talk unlimited everything at $45 .. that would save me more than $800 a year!
So now I need to decide between straight talk via tmobile(see website) for everything $45 or Tmobile at 60 for the same service(I guess). Sounds like Straight Talk uses either ATT or Tmobile towers depending which phone you choose. Any experience with this anyone? Also would I be better off with a international version Note or Att version Note?... I watched a youtube video of a guy doing speedtests using straight talk and the international version of the Note and it looks great!>>>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsNggiZeZ6I&feature=related
Also I was sitting in my car at Mcdonalds when I posted originally.. and I was using the Microphone button to txt.. with a bit of typing.
The 4g Plans can be used for the Note? I noticed that the website said for Tmobile capable phones. Tmobile bring your own phone plans require a two year contract. SMH.

I am new and I could not post this as a reply to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983 in the Developers section so I created a new thread here.
I called AT&T CS and the rep told me that I needed a new sim card to access the 4g network and to call when I receive it in a few days to call back and change my iphone unlimited plan to the smartphone unlimited plan. He said to only speak to a supervisor in order to keep my unlimited plan. Just feels risky. I live in San Antonio TX and he assured me that HSPA+ is defintitley working here and LTE is actually working although I don't think there are any devices available from AT&T right now that support LTE. I currently get 3-5mbs on Speedtest and I am wondering if i will even see a difference with new sim card. Is it worth even switching to smartphone plan? I don't wanna risk loosing my unlimited plan if i am not going to see any difference in speed anyway. Any thoughts?
I have the unlimited data plan with at&t , Im getting H+ with my old 3g sim card. with up to 6mbp Supposed to be getting 7 . I dont think you need a new card for 4g? Not sure tho dont take that for fact It might be true! Most Att store employes Dont know what the hell there talking about. They do more screwing you then helping you. Keep your sim and dont tell them you are switching phones. Wate for more info from people here before you decide
Bump.. Any info?
If you search, you'll find several topics on this. Short story, you do not need a new SIM card, but in order to get the full speeds of HSPA+, you will need to provide AT&T with an IMEI number from a AT&T 4G phone. You can't use the Galaxy S2 IMEI because it's not a USA based phone, and it's not in their database. Just look up an IMEI for an Atrix or some other 4G phone (you can go to the AT&T store and look up the number on the floor model if you want) and give it to them. It doesn't need to be unique. Tell them you got an Atrix, not a Galaxy S2.
You should speak with a supervisor to retain your unlimited plan, or else they might switch you to a limited plan.
Otherwise, you can stay as you are, and you can access HSPA+, but not the full speed (assuming you're in an area that has the full speeds available).
Hi all!
I am going on vacation to the beautiful state of Florida soon. I'll be in West Palm Beach for 14 days. Does anyone recommend a carrier I may purchase a SIM card from and a plan that they have? I would like to use my unlocked Bell Atrix mostly for data (maps, navigator, etc...) And maybe some local calling.
Thanks!

FYI, the service for at&t is horrible in Florida, I just got back from a trip and 95% of the time it was 1 bar. Here in Texas I'm spoiled with pegged out bars and awesome service.

LMAO. I would have set it up in the store and rubbed it in their face. The sales rep sounds like an asshole lol
Glad it worked out for you though!
It's their Gophone prepaid plans. The sim card is free and it's easy to add $ and data on their website. I did a speedtest while I was down there. Got 1.8Mbps up and down, while on Bell at home I get 5.5Mbps down and 3.3Mbps up.

Get the AT&T 50$ monthly unlimited prepaid plan. It gives you unlimited talk, text AND data. While the data part is intended only for feature phones, AT&T has no way of checking that unless its one of their own phones (they can only check against IMEI). Bell Atrix should work perfectly and unless you really abuse the data, there shouldn't be a problem.
Now the issue is that since it is not allowed for a smartphone, sales persons can refuse you to sell one. However they're noobs as someone mentioned above. They think that data won't work for unlocked phones and you can use this argument in your favor. All you need to do is change/add APN. Also remember that for some weird reason, the sim is tied to your IMEI. If you use a dumb phone to get the sim and later want to put it in your atrix, it won't work. You'll need to call them or take it to their store so they can register atrix's imei against your account.
When I was in San Diego..I just went to T-mobile and purchased their pre-paid SIM. They had no issues selling me one that includes data plans..whereas AT&T told me I couldn't get one in a pre-paid (unless I bought an actual phone). For $70 I got Unlimited talk/text and data. Money can be thrown on the SIM card at any time..and since i'm going to Hawaii in September..I plan on using it again then (and the mobile hotspot is awesome..as the wife can boost my "unlimited" data onto her iphone).
Now if only I could figure out a way to make T-mobile work in Canada..because you Americans are SPOILED with your rates. $70?? Craziness.. Here for limited minutes (1500min i think including long distance) / unlimited text, and 5GB of data I pay $160/month.
Ok so over spring break I'm going to be going away, specifically, the Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, and I went before and ran up like a $100 or something on data charges and texting.. But now my SIM card is unlocked as per the guide with the app off the market, so will I still get charged for roaming data, voice and sms? I just want to find out if anyone knows if I still need to go to AT&T and get it worked out there or what?, I'm just not sure exactly how this works.
thanks
If roaming charge not being applied then international rate will do
Or you can use the local network in Bahamas, hope they have GSM there.

No, you have to unlock your sim and use a sim card from the local network that they have there (and if you used their network before, it should be compatible anyways)

If the OP has used their device there previously then I'd say they support GSM.
Just make sure your phone has been unlocked and buy a SIM from a local carrier there and you should be good to go to use their network.

I'm not concerned with compatability with the network, Im mostly just wondering about data charges, Im guessing I'll just have to either plan it out at the store or deal with international charges whatever that's gonna be
You can get the international packages from at&t for a month (its prorated, so if you pay for a week, you only get 1/3 of the whole month), just don't forget to cancel it after you're done. It depends on how much data you use... and 50mb is not alot, I would rather just face the overage charges and try to use as little as you can (use wifi alot or something).

Just about every airport I've been through lately has a kiosk for the local cell phone company. Easiest to grab one there.
Yeah, to clarify you sim card is not unlocked, your phone is sim unlocked. Meaning you can use other carriers sim cards. Even if you unlock, if you have the att sim in while international, you are still roaming, and att will bill you. You should remove your att sim before you depart the us, then look for local Sims upon arrival. As others mentioned make sure the local sim includes data. Also note your phone number will change, and you may need to add the international prefix to text and call people in the us. I would set up a textfree + skype account or similar and use that while traveling for texting or calling, that way you can use your contacts as-is and it uses data vs texting. You can send someone a text via textfree to tell them to hop on Skype, and video call over data or wifi.

Your data charges will be for whatever network you buy a SIM for, look at that carrier's pricing.
SIM-Unlocking an AT&T phone and then continuing to use an AT&T SIM changes *nothing*.
I'm getting my Note tomorrow, can I just plug the sim from my 4S into the Note and have it work?

One option is to transfer the service on the iphone to the note. Otherwise there isn't much you can do.
Do they make SIM adapters like they do for SD cards? I don't actually have a microSIM but it seems like it should be fairly easy to make a tray that you can put your microSIM in that would fit in a full-size SIM slot.

You have two problems:
1. Your iPhone 4s has a micro SIM. Note takes normal sized SIM IIRC. Without an adapter, your micro SIM won't fit.
2. You will need to upgrade your iPhone data plan to LTE data plan before you will be able to use LTE data speeds. Otherwise, it won't connect at all.

Is #2 true? I was told by 2 different online reps and the in store rep that I would be able to keep my unlimited data plan that I've had since my iphone 3g?
You will need the adapter for your current micro SIM to put it into your GNote. It will work for phone calls and probably data but not LTE. If I put a regular 3G SIM into my skyrocket it works or even a t mobile it will still work even though it is EDGE. (My skyrocket is unlocked). Just as when I put my SIM which is provisioned for LTE into my International GNote it works fine on HSPA+.
I would get the adapter and try it. Ultimately you would need a LTE provisioned SIM card for LTE.

Yes you will be grandfathered into an unlimited LTE plan, but it is different than the 3g unlimited plan you have for the iphone.

You can keep your unlimited data but they need to make a change to your plan so that it is good for LTE access. It isn't likely to be a problem, but the usual recommendation is that you call them and tell them to change your plan to unlimited LTE data BEFORE you put your SIM in the Note. Once the SIM is in the Note, they might automatically change your plan, and if that removes the unlimited part, you'll have to at least go through extra rigamarole in order to get it back.
Ok, I have an iPhone 4. I did the upgrade path to the Note.
So what do I do, just turn on the Note and let it activate itself or something, and then call ATT?
Anyone want to clarify the steps to take for us clueless iPhone switchers?
Thanks for the updates on the transfer of my current unlimited plan to an LTE unlimited plan. I looked at the website again, and now see an option for an unlimited LTE plan for the same price I'm paying now. I swear I didn't see that the few times I tried to pre order earlier in the week from the website, and neither of the reps I talked to on online chat, or on the phone were able to tell me this. Should have posted here earlier lol.
Any idea when my order would ship if I ordered it tonight or tomorrow? Curious if it would actually ship tomorrow for a Monday arrival? It no longer predicts the shipping date as it did earlier in the week. Curious if I should try my luck at a store on Sunday, or order one and hope for a Monday (or maybe Saturday) delivery.
Nah it wont work

Same deal. You have to upgrade your iPad 3G data plan to LTE (you get keep the unlimited) before you can use it on LTE. All LTE phones use a new APN which requires your data plan have the LTE feature code. Otherwise, it won't connect at all. Call AT&T anytime, either before or after you inserted the old SIM to your phone. If you don't have the LTE data plan, the phone just won't be able to connect to the data.
So far a no go. Sim works, although it's tricky with the adapter the way the sim slots in there, kinda likes to get stuck.
No data, called AT&T and there were no help, basically said I needed a different new card as the one from the iPhone 4S wouldn't work.
My sim adapter cracked, I carefully just placed the micro sim, no adapter, into where the sim goes and it's been working fine

From what i undertsand it should work with out issues.but i believe u need to be on a ics leak to have it fully unlocked.in the ics leak they made it unlocked for global know and thats what my phone is set at.it will hse gsm frequency only since u wont be tied into verizon no longer....if im wrong someone plz correct but i believe im right...

with the straight talk SIM card it would only work on GSM (from straight talk SIM page), yes in the past straight talk had phones that ran/run on verizons CDMA but those are being phased out and the SIM cards being sold now will only work with the GSM, I'm quite interested in this idea myself, I can't do it for more then a year and a half (not worth the cost to break the contract), so someone should be able to confirm this working before that time comes.
But it all depends on whether the razr gsm frequencies are in the same spectrum as AT&T or not, or possibly some other lockout, because in the news articles it seems to imply the global update GSM frequency won't work with AT&T for some reason and you need to be on AT&T GSM to use the straight talk SIM card.
But what would the possibility of getting them to work like the 4g devices on vzw cause I can take the sim out and place in other 4g phone and it works but strait GSM would be nice as well
Side note has any one figured out how to unlock the xt910 phones for different sim. Cards

from my understanding it won't, verizon and straight talk started limiting there interaction before LTE and the SIM cards they are selling now are LOCKED to AT&T GSM frequencies.
http://www.straighttalk.com/shopsims if you choose CDMA it says program not available, and from what I understand AT&T's 4G LTE will be on a different frequency spectrum (50 Megahertz higher IIRC) and so our verizon LTE radios will not be supported on that system.

Not all of us have the money to buy a new phone
You can use RadioComm to unlock the CDMA/LTE Razr to work on AT&T and T-Mobile. There is a thread somewhere on XDA that shows how to do it. Then all you would have to do is pop in the Straight Talk SIM and edit the APN settings on the Razr to get data and MMS. IIRC, the Razr supports all the frequencies AT&T uses, including the ones used for HSPA+.

Straight Talk didn't work out so well for me...
This is what I have found out from talking to Motorola.
Thanks for reaching out to Motorola.
With the release of the Ice Cream Sandwich, the DROID RAZR MAXX can now support GSM. That means it can be used with any carrier's SIM card. But the phone needs to be unlocked to use it with a different carrier aside from Verizon.
In order to unlock the phone you will need the "subsidy" code. This is a code that is unique to your phone. The code is assigned by the original service provider so that you cannot take the phone to another carrier without their permission. The business (carrier) that the phone was originally manufactured for is the only one that will have this information.
You will need to talk to a technical support person at the company for which the phone was sold, for assistance. The technical support staff will probably need to know the IMEI number off of the phone, under the battery to assist you.
We hope that you find this information useful and we look forward to assisting you in the future.
Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support.

I went to hin earlier this month (Feb, 13) He said yeah it can be done. especially if you click on GSM when you go to your settings where you can choose between global and LTE/CDMA mode. and try clicking on GSM/ UMTS, then you should lost you data and all your bars with a red line through it. If a box pops up saying this phone does not have a GSM carrier connection, or something like that, that's even better. Now since Verizon got rid of unlimited data, and also got fined over 1.2 billion data for deleting 7 3rd party adds for free hotspot, there are more and more hotspot apps popping up all the time. I highly recommend downloading Aptoid for free so you can download any paid app for free. I haven't come across a app it does not have and just downloaded a $29.99 app today. Anyways, he said there are way's to do this without unlocking though many Verizon techs might not do it for you or even tell you how to get the info. I recommend doing and checking out a few things first. If you still have unlimited data, just order the strait talk SIM card for now until either they get rid of unlimited data all together or you don't want to pay full price for a phone anymore. Here's what you need to check into. there are many other pte-paid providers out there. And you can order blank SIM cards from out of country. check out clear.com, thats $45 bucks a month for unlimited data at home or on the go. the devices cost anywhere from 24.99-100+, but the adverage one you need is around $50. If you can conect to your computer from your phone or tablet, there are ways for to remotely send your phone internet access from you PC to you phone or computer. look it up! I don't know hoe to do all this stuff my buddy does. I am just a business owner that has used 149GB on my unlimited data plan through Verizon since January 28th till February 15th, which is on the low side for me since I used 59GB's from January 29th to February 3rd. Whatever blocks come up, there will be a way around them. these companies rely on older people like my aunt who had unlimited data on her regular smart phone + her work phone then she was paying by the GB for her Ipad. All three with with her at all times I showed her how to be able to use all three through her regular phone, Via Hotspot w/ a free hotspot app. or Via Blu-tooth, and how to direct tether. she couldn't believe she was now able to save about $150 a month in about 25 mins of a little education. Also I said there will always be ways around whatever the cell companies do. I am not going to tell you the name of the company that goes live February 21st. but $40 a month, unlimited everything and all you have to do is to get one other person to do it with after you. plus you can use whatever phone you have now. if you get two people to sign up after you it is free, $20 for every person you sign up, $10 for every person they sign up $5 for the next, but it doesn't go any further than that, It hasn't even stated yet, but I signed up in November and signed up 13 people, some of them went nuts and got a lot of people, which only like 4 of them I know and the people the people They signed up signed up alot. now my first months paycheck along with my free unlimited data talk and text will be $3,130. why? because if I didn't sign up anyone my bill would be $40, I signed up 13 and the chain when on from there. less money for the people you didn't sign up but are linked to you from the ones you did. I just found out how much money I will be getting at the end of march. Now they are getting rid of free data. I am going to push this. and you can keep you first service plan if you don't get good reception for calls, just swich out the SIM cards. Look it up, it should be hard to find
not sure

I went to hin earlier this month (Feb, 13) He said yeah it can be done. especially if you click on GSM when you go to your settings where you can choose between global and LTE/CDMA mode. and try clicking on GSM/ UMTS, then you should lost you data and all your bars with a red line through it. If a box pops up saying this phone does not have a GSM carrier connection, or something like that, that's even better.
I got pop up window so what do I do now? I would really like to use my Droid Razor please help me:
