Charging Issue on ICS...? - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey everyone, new to the forums and new to this whole rooting process... so please forgive.
I recently rooted and installed ICS on my HTC Amaze using the tools provided here (many thanks to all the hard work) and everything went fine for the most part. The only issue I seem to be having is that I am unable to charge my phone when it is powered off.
If I turn off the device and plug it in to charge, I've noticed that it will boot the device into the recovery mode after a few seconds, but the screen does not light up making things incredibly hard to see. Does anyone have any wisdom or advice on how to fix this issue...? Any help is appreciated!

Which recovery did you flash? Some recovery's don't support off charging. If your not already i suggest using this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587844

Thank you for the suggestion -- I will most certainly look into that. I seem to have fixed the issue for now -- I don't know if it was the best method of going about it, but it does seem to have worked and the phone charges with the power off no problems.
In case anyone comes across the same issue:
I had originally flashed CWM recovery version 5.0.0.2 I believe, so after doing some digging I downloaded the CWM Rom Manager app from the Play Store. Using the app I updated to the latest version of CWM 5.0.2.6, however after testing the problem still persisted. Luckily, after some more research I stumbled upon this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521169
Downloaded the update listed, installed it following the instructions -- and what do you know, off-charging now works on my phone. Anyway, thanks again for the help.
Since this is all a little new to me, I think I'm going to take a little break from flashing and what not -- little stressful on the new guy, but at least I feel like it's not completely foreign to me anymore. Here shortly, I may try and flash the EXT recovery the other poster mentioned. Thanks again guys.

If you're not s-off its going to be a hassle flashing a Rom without having to flash the kernel with fastboot. 4EXT flashes kernels without s-off that's why its recommended. It also supports off charging. But its really up to the user on how easy or how difficult you want your experience to be.

HTC EVO 3D help different topics

Hello,
I am very new to this rooting n' stuff for android phones. I have been using the past three days trying to get this to work, but everyone seems to have their own way of doing these things on, so it is really, really hard to follow a guide when the other guide for installing another kernel is using something from the root and is done a whole other way. I simply can't find head and tale in this anymore.
This is why I now, as a last resort, scream for your help!
I have successfully rooted my phone using revolutionary, and I do have the clockwork mod. I also got this superuser thing to work, so I do indeed have root access. I originally wanted to do this so I could overclock it, but that hasn't been working for me either.
But first things first...
I am having a lot of trouble with the clockwork mod. When I enter recovery in the HBOOT it works just fine, but ALL menu's won't work at all. What just happens is that all the letters disappears and only the background remains. I can press to power button again to get the text back, and I can choose between the menu's but even the power off menu just make the text go away and leave just the background. To get out of it I have to take the battery out of it.
I have tried to use the revolutionary once more to download the clockwork mod. Usually it says something like "What are you doing etc. etc." but now I just get "Waiting for device". It can't seem to get in contact with the phone anymore at all.
It can still boot just fine and works very good, and I can still use adb, so maybe I am just doing something totally wrong.
This problem came when I wanted to install another kernel, RCMix3D so I would be able to use the program set CPU I bought from google play. The method of "unlocking higher frequency" on the website for the application did not work, I only get a failure from the adb.
Essentially I just wanted the ViperROM but I can't find anywhere if it works for the GSM version or not. Since I am having trouble with the battery life it would be awesome with another ROM which saves more power than the stock one does. And with a kernel that would make me overclock it as much as I want would just be awesome.
But in my frustration I have now closed everything and I really hope you can point me somewhere with a guide for this exact thing, or write a quick one here.
But what firstly really pisses me off is the clockwork mod not working, how can I reinstall that without using revolutionary?
As I am a huge noob to this phone thing (first smartphone) I really need step by step instructions, but don't think I am incompetent. I work with both hardware and software each day, so I do indeed know a thing or two.
In big hopes of help,
Jesper
Hi Jesper,
I just have 2 quick questions.
Are you S-ON or S-OFF?
If you're S-ON, that's why you can't get the Overclock to work properly.
Second question, is it a GSM or CDMA EVO 3D? I'm going to guess GSM.
Also, you can boot into your ROM and get full SuperUser, correct?
If yes, download the 4EXT Recovery and install it from the ROM.
Once you download that and get it done, I'll help you out some more.
Thank you for your answer!
I have S-OFF, and my HBOOT is 1.49.1107 from revolutionary.
It is a GSM yes.
I do have full access using superuser. I have confirmed this because both Set CPU and ROM manager asks for this and can gain access.
I have also bought and installed 4EXT Recovery control 2.4.1

Alright, that's great.
You didn't have to buy it, but it's ok.
Now, is all your stuff backed up so that you can flash a custom ROM?
Before you flash a ROM, make sure it is from the GSM section, you can't use one from CDMA or it will brick your phone.
Is there anything else you wanted to do?

I do not need to back anything up. It is all on google's servers so I just have to sync it and it will be as it is now. I can't seem to find any good ROM's that prioritize battery life. My dock can't deliver much power so I need some power saving ROM for when it is in there and showing video, and then I would love to get it overclocked because many things just seems to be quite slow. A new ROM may just be enough, but still.

Well, the ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 still won't work. When I go to HBOOT then select recovery to get to the ClockworkMod I get the ClockworkMod menu, but nothing happens when I choose an option. It just shows the background and that's it. I have to take the battery out to power off the phone, even that option won't work.
EDIT:
Oh well, I played with that 4EXT and I got it installed instead of ClockworkMod. 4EXT works just fine for me, and awesome that it uses touch too.
Now I just need a ROM for better battery life and a kernel for overclocking. I can see that you have GSM too, can you recommend a good one for what I am looking for?

Well, I'm not very concerned about the battery, but I am using the KingCobra ICS Rom.
Try it out. Try a few ROMs.
You'll find something for you!
And just turn things off when you don't need them.
Use the task manager and disable data and such when not it use.
I can however say that I have better battery life with this ROM.

I am just way too scared if it turns out it is not for GSM and I might brick it.
Also, when installing an ICS ROM, do I need to do anything else, or does the ROM just come with ICS and I will have that too?

I tried that already, but my dock still can't give power enough. Within a few hours it loses 25% battery while playing video in the dock, even when connected to the AC adapter.
What about kernels? How do I install them? Just doing the "install zip from sd card" in 4EXT?
Since this is my very first time ever trying this I am very scared I may brick it

HELP! I think I may have bricked my HTC Rezound! Stuck at White boot screen

I am panicking. I just purchased my HTC Rezound from Verizon just a couple weeks ago and after unlocking/rooting, I tried to flash a ROM using CWM and now every method I try that I've found in forums takes me right back to that infinite HTC White boot screen. I can do me best to walk through the process I took to get to this point but to be honest, I'm not too greatly familiar with the Android development 'lingo' so I hope I'm able to communicate with you well enough. Ultimate result: I would JUST like to return my phone to factory settings, fresh from box and start over from the day I got it. If this is possible I will be forever grateful.

If you're seeing anything on the screen, you're NOT bricked. When you flash a ROM, the first boot up almost always takes a long time. I've had to wait over 10 minutes before.. that's kind of extreme, but seriously, try flashing the ROM again and check the clock and wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before pulling the battery.
And remember - if you can get to the bootloader, recovery or a white HTC screen, you're not bricked.
Edit: A word of advice, don't use CWM. Use Amon Ra. CWM can't charge the battery when the battery is at 0%. I believe this is an issue with TWRP recovery as well (plus TWRP can't run some scripts certain ROMs/themes need). Amon Ra is the most robust recovery on the Rezound.
Yeah cwm could cause a lot of issues, make sure to use amon Ra.

[Q]Phone won't load OS and won't boot into recovery

Excuse me if I missed an existing thread with this issue, I have looked and didn't find one with exact problem.
It seems everyone else has one of the two problems, not both.
As the title claims, when I turn on my phone it freezes on the white background-green htc screen and won't load the OS.
I tried removing the batter then turning back on with power-volume down but nothing happens. That hboot menu doesn't show up.
As soon as I let go of the buttons, it attempts to start up normally then freezes again at the same screen.
Last night I rooted my phone (first time I've ever rooted) and installed SolidRom Suite ICS Sense 3.6 and it worked perfectly.
I then removed battery, went into hboot menu, cleared the catches and did a factory reset. I then attempted to install the SolidRom Suite JB 4.1.1
This is when it loaded the white screen-green htc and froze. I thought it was loading the rom slowly (First time like I said, I didn't know what to expect)
It was 2am so I just fell asleep. I woke up to a dead phone. I plugged it in to a charger and have been attempting to get access to the phone all morning with no luck.
CDMA (Sprint)
s-on
hboot 1.58
2.87
4ext
Any other information you need? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I just hope I didn't kill my phone
While rooting last night, I was using a youtube video as a cross reference to the directions I was using from AFs.
I asked the creator of the video the same thing and this is what he replied with
DON ,T BE SCARED (are u?)
this thing is called BOOTLOOP
the rom has problems OR U DID NOT FLASH THE KERNAL!!!!
to flash the kernal u need a working software and install an program called flash image gui
restore your nandroid back u created before flashing
DID U MADE A NANDROID BACK UP
If no
then u need to download the ruu image of your phone GOOGLE TIME keep searching until u got one

1-I didn't know I needed to flash the kernel if I was going to stick with the one provided with the custom ROM (is that a gross conceptual error?)
2-If I do need to flash the kernel first... I have no idea how.
3-I looked up flash image gui and all the instructions assume your phone is working fine so I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do with that.
I was so excited when the first rom (ICS) worked... guess that's what I get for then trying to upgrade to JB.
Thanks a lot guys. That noob video I watched to register on this site is so spot on.
update: I finally figured out how to fastboot. I keep trying clear caches then factory reset. I install new rom and then it bootloops again. What am I doing wrong?
I recommend you follow ramjet's guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
It will reset your phone back to stock (hopefully stopping the bootloops) and then get you s-off using the wire trick. This will allow you to flash ROMs without worrying about flashing kernels. It will also allow you to change hboots, which I think was what caused the issue in the first place. I think all the jb ROMs don't boot on hboot 1.58.
I was able to return the phone to factory settings. I then retried and now I get past the splash screen and am frozen at the next Sprint screen.
I'm still at it. I'll get it eventually.

[Q] Unable To Boot Into Recovery

I have the HTC One X Plus International and recently recovered from it only being able to go into Bootloader Mode because of the System being erased without a backup. I finally was able to learn how to find the correct RUU for my make and model to bring it back to life. Before accomplishing this, this current problem still existed.
Each time now when I boot-up, it starts perfectly well, no problem. But when I try going into Bootloader Mode and choose Recovery, it shuts itself down. So, since I am unable to Root it, or at least I don't know how to do so under these circumstances, how do I get around this obstacle? Thanks.

I don't know if this is too obvious.. but have you flashed the recovery again??
When you run the RUU, it is overwritten. You need to download a recovery and flash it through fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Actually, around six or seven times now, with no luck. Now when attempting to get into Recovery, it hangs on the white screen. The thing is, I successfully had TWRP 2.5.0.0 on it. (Long story.) I am now trying to figure out how to root it through Fastboot, if that's even possible. Otherwise, I am out of ideas.
Through trial-and-error, I finally was able to get it rooted. However, no matter how many times I try flashing TWRP-Touch (various versions), it maintains its inability to boot into Recovery Mode. Go figure.
I use twrp venom without any issues, maybe try that one?

I can't recite it exactly, HTC, something. But know that it is the first screen you would see upon rebooting.

I was just curious because if it said something about waiting on SD card or SDdata, something along those lines, I get that issue when the phone is plugged in. Unplugging the cable allowed me to enter hboot with no issues.

HTC EVO V 4G Really Messed up...

Hello everyone.
I own an HTC EVO V 4G, which I have come to understand is practically identical to the 3D.
I went ahead and did the simple(ish) bootloader unlock process through HTC Dev, and had my phone rooted for at least a year now, tried a few S-ON capable roms, the usual mild rooting stuff, etc etc....
Much more recently, I decided that some of these S-OFF roms make my Unsensible rom look pretty old, and tried out the whole Wire Trick method through unlimited IO.
After a solid 3 hours of staring at my laptop screen....
I rebooted into the bootloader with that glorious S-OFF overtop.
As you might understand... I was very eager to install one of those amazing roms, and downloaded and tried installing the PACman rom for the EVO 3D, admittedly (and regrettably!!) rushing a bit :/
So, after flashing and rebooting, I was stuck in a bootloop with PACman's boot screen. I tried rebooting back into recovery through bootloader (pull out battery, volume down + power, reboot into 4ext recovery) and wiping everything except SD-card, re-installing the ROM, with no success.
At that point I was frustrated enough, to the point where I ended up trying anything I thought might have the slightest chance of giving me my long-awaited rom.
I don't remember what I did exactly, but I flashed a few more files, actually modified the updater-script in the ROM zip.... :/
And now I'm stuck at that White n' Green HTC boot logo, it does not reboot, just stays on constantly, laughing at my hours of fruitless labor.
I can boot into the bootloader whenever with a battery pull, go into 4ext with no troubles.
I have a backup of stock rom, but after whatever I did... Everything I have tried gives me the same results.
I've spent literally the past 9 hours trying to fix this thing, stayed up all night because I need it for the day, and the next day, and the next day...
I tried using the RUU, but I have taken both OTA updates, and even when I finally did get it to start up and run, it denies me almost instantly...
Some device specifics:
I am using linux (Ubuntu).
I own an HTC EVO V 4G (shooter)
I used to run 4.0.4 stock ROM.
Switched to Unsensible (with no issues before S-OFF)
Using 4ext recovery.
Currently on JuopunutBear HBOOT-1.57.5757.
Radio is 1.09.00.0108.
Last ROM I tried flashing before giving up in fear of throwing my phone was PACman.
A few weird things... That scare me a bit...
I can put anything on my SD-card from Ubuntu fine through 4ext's USB function, but everything I do doesn't "stick"...
As in... I put a PG861IMG on the root, see it stay on the root in Ubuntu's file manager, but then boot into bootloader and it doesn't register that there is one.
This is just one example, any other files I transfer over don't take either.
I've been using another phone (I think it's an ancient EVO 4G (Not an EVO V 4G))
I us that one to hold the SD card, and things transfer fine on that one, so I don't think it's the SD card.
If anyone can give me a miracle reply that will save my whole life, you have no idea how appreciative I would be.
Thank you in advance to any replies and/or advice and/or suggestions, etc...
I'm not 100% sure where to put this explanation/plea for help, so... I put it here for one.
I apologise if there's somewhere It'd fit better.
