Hello, anybody know how I can switch off data on H/H+ and leave only 3G ?

Hi all,
I found it!!!!
First enter service menu via secret code
*#197328640#
In the menu, choose the following items sequentially:
1 (debug screen)
8 (phone control)
3 (nas control)
5 (rcc HSPA control)
And then you will find the well known menu to change the HSDPA settings, as on Galaxy S and SII.
I just tested it - it works and also survives reboots.
Enjoy
Andi
Still doesn't really explain why you want to do this.

Easy... it is a battery saver.
With my SGS1 it was quite significant.

If mobile does not switch all the time between 3g and H, H+... which is power consuming... it safes lots of energy.
For me makes a big difference.

Thank you !

Various modems will have different characteristics and also check to see if fast dormancy is enabled and if your carrier supports It. With this , it should drop back to 3G umts when idling, and ramp up to HSPA etc if required.
If your carrier doesn't, suggest disabling. There is a dialer code for it ........
Better modems will come as Samsung releases firmware for the various regions and telcos

Is there any way to set it to JUST HSPA+ so it doesn't drop down to H or 3G all the time?

No. H+/H/3G are really pretty much the same thing. They are all W-CDMA/UMTS 3G air interfaces that operate pretty much the same way. Just because the indicator changes, doesn't mean you are connected to a different 'type' of network. Only if it switches to E or G then you are on an older network.

GSM is neither 3g nor HSPA. So that option doesn't work (tried it anyways) any other ideas?

Huh??
There are three settings.
GSM Only (which is GPRS and EDGE)
GSM/WCDMA
WCDMA Only (which is 3G, H and H+)
Where is the confusion??

Well, there is no confusion. My problem is that I have 3g but since I did that thing where you turn HSPA off with the code (*#197320640#) I can't het H+ again! So that's what I was asking.
any idea what is the new codes are?
*#197328640# doesn't seem to work with Android 4.3 any more (i am on Samsung Omega ROM)

I was wondering where the toggle to only use 2G networks has been moved since i can't find it on the usual location of Settings-> Wireless and network -> Mobile Networks
In my last phone (and to my knowledge, on all android phones) there is an option there to only use 2G networks. But on my Galaxy S2 it's nowhere to be found.
Has this been moved to another location? Has it been disabled?
This is a screenshot of what i see:

Hold the power button and select data connection.
There is no option called "Data connection". There is an option called Data Network mode but that simply turns off mobile data connections. This is the screenshot:
From settings select "Only GSM". That corresponds to 2G.

Another way to do is use the code *#*#4636#*#* >> Phone Information >> choose the network mode you prefer.
You can set it in Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Network > Network Type > GSM Only
Or just download Extended Controls and use the widget
EDIT: At least it's there on mine
Hmm so it appears that my phone doesn't have that option. Maybe because it's carrier locked our something? It's a 3 phone.

I think "3" is only 3G, nothing to switch
I meant my phone is from the carrier 3 in the UK. Maybe they put their customized ROM or something on the device and I am missing the option to switch to GSM only.
The *#*#4636#*#* option works but is not a viable solution. It takes too long to go to the option. Plus I will surely forget the number. Any other suggestions?
Get unbranded firmware?
Well I don't want to change my entire firmware just for that. If the need arises (could be very soon) I will but for now I was hoping for another solution
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
All Three network phones tend to have this function removed as by default they are a 3G network. Anytime you roam onto 2G it is using another network (I believe it's Orange) and costs Three money.
The 3 network in the UK only operates on 3G, so there is not GSM/GPRS/Edge option available on their network.
Same problem, semi-solution
I also have a samsung mini bought from 3 uk which I unlocked to use another sim and a sim in Africa (where I have to get a full day's battery).
I put the *#*# etc. number as a contact. I can't call directly from the contact, but typing *#*# is enough to bring the number up so I can copy.
I understand why three did it, but it is annoying.
I hope that helps, but if you found a better way, please share!

Hi,
is there a widget similar to the one preinstalled on the defy to toggle wifi/gps etc. ?
The white/ coloured ones don't fit my theme.
THX
Widgetsoid is the best toggling app I've come across. It's got a huge number of toggles and options you can customize, including the colors and themes of the toggles, so I think it would be perfect for you.
2G/3G widget
When trying to switch from 2G to 3G or back Widgetsoid only sends you to the operator menu where you have to change the network type
Any other widget that can do the switch on a single click (as all the other widgets work)?
Wigetsoid ftw.
extended controls

It works pretty well and has quite a few options!

Can I ask a really stupid question? What would you want that for?
The only thing I can think of is if you are often in an area where either the 3G or the 2G data connection is often - but not always - messed up.
And that can't be too often (this actually did happen to me this summer: _some_ evenings my 3G data connection would just die and/or not let me log in. Then it was pretty handy to be able to force phone/dongle to just use 2G).
Or is it just for convenience? Use 2G for calls/standby (save battery, right?), flick on 3G when you want to surf or sync?

If your data connection dies somethimes you should use 2G and 3G at the same time. ( There is optin in data settings: use only 3G or use only 2G, or use both.)
Yes, 3G is a big component like Wi-Fi so it uses your battery a lot. But I use program which turns off all internet connections while screen is off. It saves way of my battery juice. But if you want always sync your programs put there a widget on your homescreen which is shortcut to data setting and when you know that you'r not using your device for next couple hours, just change from 3G to 2G only.
I hope this helped you

Slightly OT (mods please don't hit me, I'm a stoopid noob):
My problems this summer was before I had my lovely shiny Defy, and they were really tricky in that they only affected 3G data, and only sometimes (but regularly enough that I complained, and got a nice reply that they were working on it and that I had identified the problem correctly - no "have you tried this or that" -bull****).

That's a good way to save, but I think 3G (voice-) standby also eats more than 2G standby. At least a friend of mine who is a hopeless chatterbox said that turning off all 3G stuff in her never-used-for-data phone almost doubled her battery life - and it isn't like she is ever in an area with marginal coverage, downtown Helsinki all the time.
I traded my Galaxy Nexus 32GB for a Note2 and it was rooted. The phone works fine but I am unable to get a 4G LTE signal.
Network Mode was set to Global, I changed to LTE and made no difference. I have also made the changes through the hidden menus.
Any ideas?

Also, you reference not being able to get 4G LTE signal only. Do you get a data connection at all? (3G, 2G, 1X, etc.)

Ok, that's the current baseband and the latest version of that particular ROM. By your screenshot, I am inferring that your phone has the bootloader unlocked with a custom recovery installed. Have you tried installing another 4.1.2 ROM to see if that fixes the issue?
Also, I know you mentioned that you had already tried the hidden settings menu. When you reached it, did you select LTE/CDMA and see if your setting stayed? Can you post a screenshot of your "Status" screen in Settings? I'm interested in seeing what it lists for "Mobile Network Type".

Honestly, it looks like you have a bad radio. If that phone is still under warranty, then ask Samsung for a replacement.
If someone traded a Galaxy Nexus for a Note 2 than something must have been wrong with the Note 2.
Resolved now. It was a bad Sim card. It wasn't a straight trade. I added 90. He said he could not use the phone one handed.

I think the problem might be the reception on your phone. Sometimes the 3G signal may be weak so your phone chooses the stronger 2G option. This happens to me often, especially at home where cellphone signal is weak.
Indeed, it is I.
---------- Post added at 10:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 AM ----------
Also, if you choose 3G only and end up in a place with 2G only, then your phone will essentially be "off". Obvious inconvenience were it in your pocket at the time.

This is an app for OnePlus 3/3T running OxygenOS 4.1.0.
This App allows to open dual sim cellular network settings activity where you can select network modes like GSM only, WCDMA only, LTE only etc.
Toggle VoLTE On/Off.
This Settings activity is from "com.qualcomm.qti.networksetting" package which is different from stock OOS cellular settings.
Note : Only the sim card selected for data connection can be set to LTE mode. The secondary sim card will automatically fall back to GSM mode.

I don't know how to do that. Actually I don't think that's possible since this is only a shortcut app which launches the settings activity from a Qualcomm network settings app already present in OOS
Google Play Store search shortcut
can we use this in ob5 without issue?

Works also in OP3T with OOS 4.1.3
