[Q] Flashing Stock ICS Firmware while on a Custom ROM - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi All,
I installed a custom ROM (HYBROM v17) on my XMP a couple of weeks back. I now want to flash the just released stock ICS firmware to my device.
Will this cause a problem? Do I have to install the Stock ROM before flashing the ICS firmware?

If you want to flash the ftf of 4.0.4 using flashtool, you can do it right away. Check
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690704
For more info.
Thanks,
Rick
Hit Thanks if I helped in anyway.

Thank you but my concern is whether I will face any issues installing ICS firmware while on a Custom ROM that, if I remember well, cited that it is based on .62 firmware.

Basically flashtool will clear the rom on your phone and install the ICS fw on it.
Including baseband and kernel.
So if you have GB on it with .62fw, it does not matter.
The thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690704 already answers your questions about upgrading to ICS.

Great if that's true! Thank you so much

This will work
I can confirm that going from Hybrom V17 to the stock ICS works nicely.

Cool as in not overheating ???
a wipe and flash of stock rom will remove custom rom .
Root and custom roms void warranty and have a slight risk of bricking the phone .
But are usually recoverable .
You need to read the faqs and guides and understand the CM9 instuctions first .

to flash cynogen rom first u have 2 root ur phone please find the thread in original devlopment section regarding the same
u can reflash ur stock rom by dwnld the releavant .tar file adn flash the same thru odin
You can re-flash the stock rom, but just be sure to know which one is your stock rom. Go to settings, about phone and record the info there to be safe. Also back up your current rom using CWM.
There are always some risk in flashing a rom. Some people dont read instructions and cause problems on their phone, some people flash a rom not built for their phone (i9100 VS i9100G), etc.
Yeah i have rooted my device with cf-root. Thanks guys , i'll read some guides about cyanogenmod and flash it.
If your are currently on GB stock rom, Cyanogenmod developer recommends to install ICS bootloaded first,
You should be able to reflash your Stock ROM veriosn from ODIN, as well as custom roms from CWM...
What is bootload? o.o
My current firmware is ICS LP7

No they say to have below some specific ics boot loader, no mention of upgrading your gb boot loader, unless they changed it.
Plus I yet to had any issues with the latest ics or gb bootloaders..

I think he meant boot loader.
But since you already have ICS, you won't need it. Just take the latest CM9 nightly (or ROM based off it), and flash (you'll have to wipe cache data and dalvik too eventually). Make sure you make a full backup of your current stock ROM through CWM as well.

I refer this guide actually : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20841817&postcount=1
I dont know its outdated,
as others are sharing their experiance that you could flash CM9 straight away from your CWM since you are already on LP7 with ICS Bootloader.....
I don't get it... What is a bootloader?. I mean when i flashed with ICS LP7 i didn't put a file on bootloader. I just loaded the PDA .tar file and flashed it..
Soo that means that i have to reflash the stock rom with bootloader?

I dont know the ICS package you flashed had an ICS Bootloader already...
I just gave you the link for Original CM9 developers guide...
Just wait for others recommendation who have already flsahed CM9 from CWM....
Hmm thanks . But i have read in the guide that i can flash it with odin , do i still need the bootloader?

[Q] how to update 62 to 73FW

Hi to all,
i have my new xperia s (its great), anyway i already unlock the bootloader (thanks to DooMLoRD and Sony), now my question is how do i update my fone with 62 fw to 73 fw cause it seems that 73 fixes the battery problem?
is there anyone can also give me the link for the 73fw as well as its instructions?
also, once the ICS is release for xperia s is there no conflict once i updated my version to 73?
thanks in advance.
edit: nevermind about the link i found it
edit: thanks for everyone in this forum. now i have successfully updated my xperia s from .62 to .73 and now its rooted. and now il wait for the ICS
i do not know if i will install cfw but for now there is a huge improvement in battery. , maybe il stick to the pre-rooted fw and wait for the ICS before installing any CFW.
May I know how?
May I know that, how you upgraded your firmware from .62 to .73 since you have unlocked the bootloader?
Do you flash the pre-rooted firmware by yourself?
What is your ori generic fw? For me I really hard to find my own country fw...
Here it is

ive downloaded the orig ftf (for backup), you can choose whatever you like but i choose the sg ftf and the pre rooted firmware of sg.
first you need a flashtool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588586
and then u need the ftf (orig and pre rooted)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
and for the instructions on flashing the original firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
and for flashing the pre-rooted firmware (look for post by 4lex96 i think its the 4th post on third page)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597784&page=3
thats it goodluck.

Still stuck myself for decision...
Thank you for your info 1st. This give me a guide how to "ROOT" my SXS.
However, after flash in the .73 SG generic firmware, will I face problem while the official ICS update launch?
Is it at that time I will need to wait someone to pack the ftf and upload here then I just can update to ICS?
Haih, headache...
Also plan to use DoomKernel (Advanced Stock) to easily root the phone, dunno what problem will happen...

i thinks theres no problem on getting the ics update its just that the update that youre getting will be based on SG firmware.
yeah i think so too that once the ics is release they will upload here a ftf for it.
i'd tried the doomkernel (advanced stock) last week have no problem at all,
but im on a ROM now so i installed the doomkernel 04a, by the way im using
KAspeed ROM.
anyway if u flash the stock advanced kernel, you can always get back to stock by flashing the original kernel from the stock firmware.
Thank you again.
Well thank you again for the info.
I will try it in this few days, hehe.
btw, you used and using DoomKernel right.
If I flash back the original kernel from advanced kernel, will I lost root and the recovery?

im sure that you will loose recovery but about the root i dont know, if u flash the pre rooted firmware before the doomkernel and then go back to stock maybe the root will not disappear but im not sure havent tried.
Thank you.
Okay. Roughly I got the idea about it.
Now I try to root the firmware that I packed out. Still learning.
Still got long way for the ICS update yet. Haha
Thank you.

You are joking right?
Have you tried this CM9/
Neo
Neo V
Its the OFFICIAL STABLE cyanogenmod for the NEO. It is VERY STABLE and has everything working.
Apart from that, to revert back to stock, just flash a stock kernel (Or any modded kernel for stock) and restore the backup you made before flashing the cm9 rom.

The roms that you have suggested are for "neo". i am using "neo v" and the reson i wanna go back to stock is because i con not onnect to my gmail account with cm9 over data connection. Its giving me some sort of an error: can not establish reliable connection....."...
now for going back to stock ics can i just flash it via cwm and i will be back in stock ics? dont i need to flash karnel or anything like that?

I just added the link for the neo v
Yes, you need stock kernel.(or modded kernel for stock roms)
The kernel for CM will not work with stock rom.
My suggestion is to try the stable cm9 for neo v from my link. If you are still unhappy then download a stock kernel, flash it it fastboot then restore your stock backup in recovery.
Do remember, if you flash stock kernel you will have to install a recovery. Or you can flash the alliance kernel from this thread

Rule number 1
Always backup, just in case you **** up!
Anyway, no problem, there are several options.
Find a stock .ftf in the dev section and flash that in flashtool after you have flashed the stock kernel.
Or, repair phone software using PCCompanion.
This will revert your phone to factory settings (Out of the box).
Or just follow the instructions in any "stock" based custom rom. I recommend Ice cream Pureness. Its a very good stock ICS based rom, fully functional and stable

[Q] Downgrade before root

Hi
I was read the topic about rooting ICS firmware. It's very hard for me,but GB firmware look like easier for do it.
Can I downgrade my LWM to GB ,start rooting from it and install CWM and cutom ROM ICS base ??
Yes you can downgrade

You can downgrade, but maybe the custom rom won't boot. For an ics custom rom you need to be on ics first and for a gingerbread custom rom you need to be on gb!
The tutorial to root ics with the downgrade -> updgrade (local-prop, push-root-files) is easy, all steps are explained with screenshots. You could try it

Not really. Only few ROMs that require it, most ROMs wipe the old ROM anyway, so it doesn't matter what you had earlier. As much as I have used custom ROMs, I didn't have problems install custom ICS on GB.

I had some bootloops because of this, and as I said, he should try it on gingerbread and if it works it is great and if it won't work he can try to update to ics and install it again

Help Needed

I have an Xperia Mini (St15i) which is rooted on firmware .431 with an unlocked bootloader. Currently i'm running CM 9.1 and want to change it to ZellyCream 1.3.0 which is for firmware .587. I want to upgrade to .587 without the loss of root and not bricking it. Can anybody please help? I searched XDA, google and CIGTFY for some solution but couldn't find it. I'm sorry if there is a same thread but i couldn't find it.
( FYI i managed to flash zellycream but it's full of bugs which other users don't have, might be because of firmware)
Since u have unlocked bl so no worries. Just flash any kernel compatible with the ROM and the bugs might be faced due to incorrect wipes. Do all the wipes mentioned in the ROM thread.
Press THANKS if I helped,
Best Regards,
AJ

Thanks for the reply man
Well i did everything mentioned in the instructions and as for flashing roms, whenever i flashed a rom with .587 firmware I have always faced some problems :silly: . This happened 2-3 times. Even in ZellyCream, i have bugs. Media scanner only recognizes about 150 songs whereas i have 500+ songs in THE SAME FOLDER. Same happens with photos. Only displays about 30-40 pictures! Also the camera quality, is bad. BTW that rom has cybershot and I get still blurred images. I flashed Lupus V2 (kernel) which is compatible with my phone and rom but still these problems occur.
Is there any way to flash the firmware (.587) just like flashing a rom?
And also it dosen't matter what firmware I'm on, if so then no need to flash the firmware right?
FYI- Clicked the thanks button :highfive:

You can flash stock ftf via flashtool or try using areniks .587 ROM which is flashable zip(Search in dev section). And then try it btw can it be something related to hardware coz on unlocked bl if u flash .587 kernel then ROM then no such probs occur. Anyways try flashing areniks ROM and then flash any other .587 based ROM oveer it
