Am a Linux (Ubuntu) user that knows my way around adb and fastboot.
I have only seen instructions how to root SGS3 by using Odin. Odin seems to be a Windows program. How do I root with Linux?

I see in the root tutorial there are some exe files needed to run (I don't dual boot), is there any way to root on a mac yet?
You could try a virtual machine.
So, I was wondering if it was possible to root the S4 with ADB and OSX? I downloaded all the files from open1your1eyes0's guide, accept for Oden and the USB drivers. Would I just use the adb shell + adb push command? If so, where would I push them to? All the files are in the Android folder I created so I don't have to type the full path every time, Or would I use the Flash command?
I could use Windows, but I try to avoid as much as possible, just a personal preference. If someone could write the whole code out for me, I'll buy you a beer. LOL. :laugh:Seriously though, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!
Use heimdall instead of odin
I'm trying to root it on jellybean 4.1.2
On trying Doomlord's method, it says to execute runme.bat . Where do I do this? Do I copy it onto the phone and then do it, or is it to be done on my PC?
And other requirements say install adb drivers..I use Ubuntu, so are these drivers required there?
Runme.bat is a windows batch file so you must use a windows pc

I know under Windows, it is quite easy to use ODIN to flash my phone, but I was wondering if there's a way to do it under Linux? I run Kubuntu 14.04. Is there anything similar to ODIN under Linux?
Heimdall runs on windows Mac and Linux. Or just use mobile Odin pro from playstore
is there a GUI frontend for it?
is there any other way to fix this? my comp is 32bit
trying to root using this method: http://zepinventory.wordpress.com/2014/03/31/how-to-root-azpen-a727-tablet/
I couldn't make it work from XP, and had to do it from Win7
I couldn't make it work from XP either. XP said it couldn't find the Android drivers, even though they were where I pointed to.
I had to DL the 64bit version of tha Andriod SDK, and to the driver install on my SO's 64 bit Win7 laptop, From there, Kingo Root could root it, and I could remove the SDK and Kingo Root from the SO's machine.
I got it to work once using the SDK on Windows 7 Professional, but subsequent tries did not. And for the life of me I can't figure out how I did it.
I'm assuming I need to install the Android ADB Interface as opposed to Android Composite ADB Interface, correct?

AFAIK, yes. I believe that's what I installed. It's a "do once" operation, as once the driver is in place, you can root the device.
