I (luckily) don't have to drive a lot, so it took me a while to notice that this feature was missing.
With the official AT&T OS, the Atrix was able to support SMS over Bluetooth (so the car can read me the texts). However, with CM7 [I'm running the latest 06/03 nightly] this feature no longer works.
Any ideas on why this doesn't work with CM7 and how to get this worked back in?
Since the latest CM7 build still is missing this functionality, figure I'd get this thread back to the top. It's rather annoying that it's missing this (what should be) basic feature.

I sincerely love the 2.1, and i really appreciate the work and effort the dev´s are putting into the rom´s that are available free of charge.
But i cant find a rom that has working GPS on/off feature, everyone i tryed so far requires phone reboot..
so i wonder, why is it so hard to enable GPS without reboot?
and are there rom´s that have working GPS?
i tryed to raise the issue in some of the rom specific forums, but it appears to be a less prioritized bug..
For me I found that re-flashing the latest radio rom after installing 2.1 got GPS working as it should do.
apart from what klutsh said (which i can't reproduce btw), there is only one kernel available that works with the 2.1 leaks, and that kernel has a bad gps implementation.
androbin beta r2
with androbin beta r2 i use gps and work very good, without problem.
fix is quick, stability ok.
last week i try it with ndrive, cca 160km trip, without problem.
Yip I can confirm Switch on your gps, and wifi (just for the hell of it, not too sure about this part) reboot into recovery, flash the latest radio, reboot and all should be well.
I can confirm the opposite; switching on GPS, wifi and bluetooth, flashed new radio and booted up the phone.
turned off gps and rebooted, then enabled gps again (without restart).
still no gps reception.
using villain3.4 atm, but this has been persistant thruout all tested 2.1 roms.
None of the Villain Roms worked ever with GPS for me, but BeHero+ V1.2 is the first 2.1 ROM where it always does, and it even to a very fast GPS fix!
im trying androbin atm, havent yet gone outside (still downloading my apps over wifi), so i cant say if it works or not.
but i really think the devs should pool their resources/projects instead of releasing 15+ similar roms
I've never had a problem with GPS - used Navigator to get me home with voice navigation the other day (i knew the route but still) it was awesome
I would also like to know the definitive answer. All ROM's released are with working hardware lists including of GPS and no mention of prossibility of bugs but going through the replies, it seems like mixed reactions.
1) ON/OFF reboot bug?
2) Sleep mode bug with any Radio?
3) As quick fix as in 1.5?
4) Not inconsistent ie fixed once but struggle next time?
Kendong2's reply seems to suggest NO. Is it ?
I'm just wondering if anyone knows what we'd need to do or what would need to be ported to get Internet Calling (SIP) on our phones. While the Gingerbread ROMs should support it, I'm not seeing the required settings menus...
A quick Google search reveals that we may need to port the dialer from AOSP? Just looking for thoughts or confirmation from someone in the know.
One thing I can tell you for sure, CM7 will have it.

I just want to point out that for AT&T handsets, this will likely never be capable.
Sadly, we lack the ability (UMA) to do this, it's a synchronious provider/handset/hardware/software effort. We lack handset hardware.
T-Mobile, on the other hand, you may have had a chance, with, not 100% anymore. But here is the information on AT&T: HERE
Anyways, with the Atrix it's impossible, sorry.
However, you can still make full use out of Google Voice, this functionality isn't harmed.
SIP is broken (seems like audio routing issue) on the motorola stack, problem affects even custom ROMs based off motorola kernel.
I've tried every single SIP application under the sun, all have audio issues, it looks like the way Motorola routes audio (to speaker or headphones or whatever) is a bit non-standard as they all exhibit different kinds of audio bugs (as opposed to SIP protocol connectivity issues).
Wait for CM7 or an AOSP based ROM i think.
Skype does work fine for me thou.
I'm traveling abroad, and have been for the last several months. Before I left the US, I had updated to EB01 Froyo, with a Voodoo kernel, and added a few mods and a custom theme.
Since I've been out of the loop so long, and now that more stable versions of TW Gingerbread, AOSP, and CyanogenMod have been produced, I'd like to bring my device up to date. However, as I'm traveling without a personal computer, my priority is stability, not the "newest" leak or ROM.
I'm also in a unique situation, because, as I am abroad (Southeast Asia), I have suspended my VZW service, and do not need Voice, SMS, MMS, Data/3G (or wifi tethering for that matter). In fact, I want to keep these features disabled as much as possible (except for assisting AGPS if necessary). I just want a fast, stable, (feature-rich), WIFI-only phone (VOIP), with ability to use my apps. [I recognize that using a full-featured VZW ROM and using Airplane Mode and disabling Data accomplishes my need to remain disconnected from towers, so it's not necessary to point that out - I'm just offering this info to clarify my situation]
Essential features: working wifi, quick and accurate GPS (without using towers if possible, to avoid potential data charges, unless this isn't an issue), camera, Adobe Flash (I know this has been available since Froyo leaks), and ability to use VOIP (I'm currently using Skype, and when I can get it working, GrooVe IP). Working bluetooth functionality would also be helpful for VOIP (oddly it's not working on my device as currently set up- it won't even enable). Oh, and I have a secondary battery from the SGS Captivate that I want to continue to be able to use as a backup battery.
I'd like to have the quickest device possible, while still maintaining the more important stability, as I will not be able to update the device but very rarely.
I appreciate any insights and suggestions anyone may be able to offer. I know my situation is quite unique, but I'd imagine I'm not the only one wishing to use this great hardware "off-VZW."
Another complication is that most of the Internet Cafes around here do not allow installing software, such as the Samsung USB drivers, or required SDKs. But hopefully I can find a cafe with computers that do allow this, though that may mean it's more vulnerable. Any thoughts on this is appreciated as well.
Thanks again!
Hello,
I have a Droid X2 with CM10 JB. On the factory stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread build, I have a small list of fancy bluetooth features that my Dodge Charger takes advantage of. The radio was able to pull up texts and call out when I received a text, as well as respond to texts using canned messages on the radios screen.
Since upgrading to CM7 and now CM10 those features have not been accessible. Is there any way to get these features back?
I have been using CM for years, first on the Evo 4G and now on the GS3. Ever since I can remember, I've had issues with GPS on CM. In the Evo days, I always remember flashing a GPS fix (or doing a CLR fix after flashing in from a Sense ROM). Now, with the GS3, I continue to have challenges with GPS on CM. When I had the M builds, I had decent performance with GPS and could get the navigation to lock - as well as maps finding my location. Ever since I went to the CM10 stable build, the navigation just sticks on "waiting for location" and the maps cannot find my location. Super frustrating. I even switched over to AOKP for the time being as the GPS seems to be working great (as well as most of the other features).
I am still itching to get back to CM though...
Here are my questions:
1. Is there a flashable fix for the GPS problem in CM10 on the GS3?
2. I've seen that a few people flashed into ICS, locked nav, and then flashed back to CM - does this work? if so, after doing this, can I re-flash a backup or do I have to wipe clean first?
3. Even if one of the two fixes above works, will I still have sub-par performance with GPS?
Thanks in advance.
Not my answer, rochers from androidforums:
took me quite some time to figure this one out, thought i should post it here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
When i updated to android 4.1.2, i noticed that my google navigation stopped working. It would simply sit there endlessly "waiting for location..." fortunately, there's a simple fix:
1. Go to "settings > accounts > google > location settings".
2. Flip the switch to "on" (i found this was off in my case).
3. Try google navigation again, it should work fine.
I'm not sure why google decided to break up the location settings into two different places like this, but it's a bit silly imo as it's definitely going to catch some people out.
Found this solution on xda, cant post link, but this works.
