[Q] How long does Google Wallet Reset take? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys,
Thinking of rooting so naturally go to reset my google wallet. I hit the reset button and it gets to 99% and literally hangs. I let it sit for 20 minutes the first time before I hit the home button because I thought it froze, tried again and probably waited another 15 minutes and that's now. How long does this take? I tried connected to wifi and also just 3G. Any advice?
Update: Now when I try to open the app it hangs at "Initializing your Device". Awesome =D

Wallet has been down for a day.....
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

Weird, I used it at about 4pm today. No problem. Thanks for the info.

Well its been down for anyone who reset their device at least for the last 24 hrs from my understanding

I do believe you've bricked your nfc. I had a very similar experience. Hit reset, it counted up to 99% VERY slowly, then sat there. I let it do its thing, then came back 10-15 min later, screen was off, turned on, saw nothing, so assumed it cleared successfully. After rebooting, went back into the app to get a secure element not responding message. I'm not sure if the reboot did it in, or the it was already done for when stuck at 99%.
In either case, I exchanged the phone. On the new one, the entire reset process takes about 15 seconds to complete.

Go ahead and add me to the list. I went to clear out G Wallet before unlocking my Evo and it got hung up at 99% then crashed and said Google Wallet failed and now I am stuck with the "Initializing your device" screen which it gets hung up on.
Took it to a Sprint store and no one their had ever seen this before and didn't believe a word a was saying went ahead and factory reset the device and said "here it should work now". So I showed them it didn't fix anything and she said sorry we cannot issue a new phone for 1 malfunctioning app. Anyone have any recommendations on what to do next?

Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690840 in the general forum. There are a whole bunch of us with this exact issue. No resolve yet, but together we can trouble shoot it.

Hey! I had this same problem on my tmobile galaxy s4 where I didn't get an error message but it just took forever for google wallet to reset. I discovered a possible fix for the problem. I redid the build.prop file, changing the file to show the phone is a galaxy nexus. Like,
ro.product.device=maguro
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
I then restarted my phone and tried to reset wallet again and it reset in a few seconds. Maybe wallet needs the device model to match up with the one that was registered on the Google wallet account in order for it to work.

Random Reboots, I'm baffled

Hey guys, is anyone else getting these random reboots? Its happened several times now and I got the phone on Friday morning. Last time it happened ( 10 min ago), i was in XDA app. When it reboots the red charging LED comes on for a second. I have no idea why its doing this.
Return it.
Are you sure I should return it already? I was wondering if maybe it was common among many people.
Sounds like a faulty phone, simply go get another one. Sprint knows there is going to be issues and will be happy to replace them. I nor my friends have had a problem with it yet.
yeh sounds defective...i haven't had a single non-initiated reboot since wednesday...

Ehh alright i really didn’t want to have to return it or anything. Guess I'll take it to sprint later this week
At least do a clear storage first. Then see. That's probably the first thing they would do... and then they would tell you to come back if the problem continues. This way, you have at least eliminated that as a possibility. Also, what all did you install? This could be an app doing it.
Yuppers...no reboots here. Not since the Hero days I'd say its an app or your phone.

Hmm true, Im guessing an app is eating my ram because I constantly.have over 50% used

I just got a random reboot while using speedtest.net app. I ran like 4 in a row, then suddenly it shut down and booted up. I am pretty sure I'll be returning mine, as I've had a slew of other random bugs/issues going on. I was trying to determine if it's just buggy software, or if there is a problem with the phone.
What other issues do you, have? I noticed one otjer thing that htcs task.manager and the built in running services from the settings app show different amounts of memory and amt used/free. I'm betting this is just software issue. I really dont want to have return and resetup my phone

Get all the updates and then do a factory reset and see how it works after that.
I had the random reboots. I tried hard reset without any apps and without setting up email and I'd still get the reboots randomly. I exchanged it for another one at Bestbuy and I haven't had a single reboot since. Even with all my apps, email, and calendars setup. I'd return it! Also, I did not install the updates on either phone. I just tried the speedtest.net app four times in a row and I did not get any reboots. Let me know if you want me to check out anything else.
I was having the same problem before and after otas. I was also getting a blank screen once in a while too. I got mine wed and probably pulled the battery about 20 times. Finally broke down and did a factory reset by holding the volume key down when powering on and selecting factory reset. Its been fine so far. I also wiped 16gb sd card from evo, formated it in phone and only copied media files over.

I did the same as you too. It seemed better at first but then it started again. I also found that after erasing the sd card with the phone I had folders that where inaccessible after android created the new ones. I ended up formatting the card with windows and deselected the quick format option. That fixed the problem with the sd card. Note all this stuff was with my first phone. The replacement has been flawless.
I'm gonna hold out another week, if I get any reboots in that time, it's back to sprint for a new one.
I got mine on Friday, then all of a sudden out of no where I started getting random reboots last night about every 10 minutes, then when I was able to get it to stay on for a while the screen would just go black and the buttons stay lit up though. Oddly enough it was doing that all last night and all this morning, until about 9 this morning and since then it's been running fine. I was able to track down my problem somewhat at least, for some reason it kept trying to sync my exchange account and it was unable to sync, and every time i tried to open up that email account to delete it, the screen would go blank. Even though everything is working know I'm still going to the sprint store today to see if they will exchange it.

Enable safe mode

Was about to add this here, but a search led me to your OP and link to my post on MikMik. Just happy people are getting the info.
So here is a copy of my post.
What is safe mode and how do I use it?
Safe mode is a method that allows the device to run with only essential applications. This is beneficial for troubleshooting 3rd party applications.
If and when you have strange problems with your phone, I would try this before a factory reset or even re-flashing a rom. If your problem goes away in safe mode, you know it is some software that safe mode disabled thats the problem.
From what I read, it has always been a part of the Android OS. But not all devices get there the same way, there is no standard other than it is always hardware buttons.
I learned about it from a HTC Tech, but he didn’t know how to enable it on this device. He told me to hold the power & menu buttons while booting. As you know we don’t have a menu button.
How to Enable on the EVO 4g LTE?
Boot or Reboot your phone.
When the “HTC quietly brilliant” splash screen comes up, press and hold volume down, until you get a long vibrate response. Then you can release the volume button.
Now when your phone is booted, you will see the words “safe mode” in the bottom left corner of your screen.
How to Disable on the EVO 4g LTE?
Just reboot. That’s all.
Something you should know before you try out Safe Mode.
Your widgets, mostly 3rd party widgets will be missing from your screen, or broke. Just replace them on your screen and all will be fine.
Hope this helps someone, someday, someway!
Hahaha
Thanks for posting this. I got into safe mode once on accident and saw it on my screen and had no idea what the hell it meant, so I was able to reboot to remove it.

I have a question HTC was trying to help me get to safe mode and he had me hold down the down volume button and I got to the boot screen. But my phone is doing this wierd thing where it is constantly rebooting over and over again. I let the battery drain and now I am charging it to full but even in the boot screen and I hit reboot or fast reboot it doesn't take me to my home screen it keeps rebooting over and over. So I am guessing I can't get to safe mode if it doesn't boot to the home screen. Cause HTC said in safe mode he could see what app or what is causing the hang up to make my phone reboot and reboot over and over. I really don't want to do a hard reset but am guessing I'll have to. But I have already activated and used Google Wallet and read you have to clear it out before doing a hard reset or it will brick your phone. HTC said that's not true. I don't know what to do.

What to go into safemode. HTC was gonna have me do it and he couldn't see in the manual how to do it but my phone is stuck it won't go to my home screen so I can't get to safemode. My phone keeps rebooting without going to my home screen I am stuck on the HTC screen to the Sprint screen to the HTC Beats audio screen and it's in a loop doing the same 3 things over and over.. I'm afraid to hard reset because people say it can brick your phone something to do with Google Wallet. HTC said that's not true I don't know. Sprint said take it to the store tomorrow but if I have to hard reset I would rather just do it myself why bother with the store.

No I am not Rooted. All of a sudden I saw my phone was rebooting this am and it just goes back and forth from the HTC white screen to the Sprint Logo screen to the white HTC beats Audio Screen over and over it reboots to the same 3 screens. Won't go to my home screen so I am stuck with no phone until I do a hard reset. But I don't know if it will fry my google wallet people are saying it does something to the secure element and makes it unusable. I don't know. My phone is turned off until tomorrow when I can call HTC back or take it to the store.

Rose, take this how you want. I had set up GW and then forgot and wiped my phone before flashing a new rom. I did this 3 times and it's still fine. Supposedly the important wallet stuff is stored in the cloud now since one of the updates.
Its up to you if you want to reset. The sprint tech will probably yell you that is your only choice. After one of our prl updates I lost data connection and the rep on the phone was ready to send me a refurbished one even before I reset Tue phone.
I ended up fixing it myself by updating prl and profile while on wifi.
Didn't you have another problem with your phone before? I could be wrong but I thought you mentioned it in a thread over at AF.
Hope this helps,

Oh I personally wouldn't worry about the wallet issue. If the phone ends up with hardware problems you'd end up with it replaced anyways.

Rose, I experienced the exact same problem as you about a week ago. My phone randomly just went into a crazy cycle of rebooting, never making it past the screen with HTC and the Beats logo. I eventually had to just hard reset it... and since then it's been working fine. I had also activated Google Wallet prior to hard resetting and had the same concerns as you, but after hard resetting, my Google Wallet still works perfectly fine. I don't think you need to worry about that. I know that doing a hard reset sucks because it takes a while to restore everything back to how you had it, but having a working phone is much better than having one that constantly reboots. I hope this helped!
Thanks but what I should I do now? I did a Hard Reset this am. I read an article that stuff was fixed with the wallet thing so I hard reset. And I did update Profile and PRL and went to see if there were any other updates. I got back Amazon app store and put on about 5 or 10 of my free apps back on. Went to play store and it showed all apps and I installed several. Mostly games like words with friends Song Pop Scramble with Friends Haning and Dice With Buddies. I use Handcent and Yahoo messenger which kept not responding after an update over and over before my phone went into reboot mode. I have normal apps like trapster beat the traffic some other games Dolphin Browser TV Show Favs Big Battery thing and car home ultra. I have Foursquare auto redial tiny call confirm.
Got to work went to turn on wifi and it went back to being disconnected and then I couldn't touch the screen and it froze and I just put the phone back in my pocket and ten minutes later I pulled it out and there was a black screen and when I turned it on the boot thing happened over and over again. Here i got back most of my apps configured couple emails. So now it's doing it again Sprint said go to store let them do a diagnostics. She said you can hard reset it back again and if they find no problem put your apps back on and try to recreate it. I don't have time to stand in a Sprint store installing apps. HTC said do a Hard Reset don't ad any apps for a day or two and see if it happens again if not then an app is causing it to hang. But how do I find out which one? And they wanted me to go into safe mode but I couldn't since it won't go to the home screen. So now I am back at a Hard Reset just got home from work and am scared to add anything but I want too. I need Handcent and want a couple others. HTC asked if I had downloaded any task killers or apps like that and I said no. I had Android Assistant before but hadn't put it back on.. HTC said if it comes back in the next couple days and I haven't added any apps call them back. Do you think an app is causing it to hang or that it's hardware. Should I still let Sprint do a diagnostics on it tomorrow or just leave it alone for now for a couple days like HTC said?
I had major problems with my Touch Pro 2 and sense and had to reset it several times. This phone the only problem I had was text not sending right away but it got fixed network problems and then after this past update my handcent would open to a black screen and it would take a minute before it would open and my sense sometimes would restart on occasion but it stopped after I took speak to it assistant widget away. But this last update made it a little sluggish.

Thanks I just replied to someone else then saw your reply you can read what I wrote about hard resetting adding most of my apps and then it started doing it again. So now I hard reset again and haven't added anything. I did the updates it said I had and for now that is all I am doing. It sucks but your right I would rather have a working phone. So is Titanium the good backup app and can you use it now without being rooted?

Sorry I know that was a long post. I took my phone to Sprint today after doing a 2nd reset last night. They did run a diagnostics and it didn't pass. They then said they had to reset it themselves once more and run one more diagnostics and it failed again. So they are ordering me another phone and it should be in the store tomorrow or the next day. But the warehouse is here in my city where I live and it was ordered around 3 so I hope it's tomorrow. It's going to be a refurb though so I hope it ends up being good. I still kind of thought it was an app causing it to hang since it did the same thing after my reset and I added several apps back. But anyway that's what happened to me. So now I need to order another screen protector.

Just got a text from Sprint my phone is in. Yay! I just want to download my apps configure my emails and have my home screens back to the way they were. If Sprint told me it failed the Diagnostics test twice that means it's hardware right? Cause since it did it twice again after reinstalling several apps I was starting to think an app was causing it to hang. But I am guessing I can install most of the apps I had before. I'm just kind of scared LOL!

Yes. If it failed after a factory reset, it was hardware related.

Just got back from Sprint. He said they sent me a brand new phone. He claims they must not of had any refurbs cause the phone is pretty new I don't know how to tell. It had a cover over the screen and looked new to me. But anyway yes I hard reset and it failed and then he hard reset it again and got some error message or something he said. So he doesn't think it was app related and i hope not. Cause now it's time to reconfigure my phone.

[Q] HTC Radar 4G stuck in reboot loop - Please help!

Hey, guys, I know there are a lot of these issues with a lot, if not all, of the HTC smartphones, but I've only seen a few of these for the HTC Radar, and they all seem to give the same answers. Hopefully my explanation of the problem will help!
So, I got the phone thanksgiving weekend 2011, so I've had it for about a year. One day around the beginning of April this year, my phone randomly began a restarting loop, where it would gradually restart itself from a blank white screen over and over, then it went to the HTC screen over and over, and then periodically switched between the HTC screen and the black "Windows Phone" load screen over and over again. I tried taking off the battery cover and leaving it for a couple of minutes and then hours, but I put it back and it just kept rebooting. I was left without a phone for about two days.
On the second day, I put it on the charger and left it in my dorm while I was in class all day, and when I came back, it was rebooting still, but I noticed that it always made it to the "Windows Phone" logo loading screen and then restarted. After about 4 reboots, it went back to normal and I was able to use the phone. After the next couple of months, it stopped doing it in such a long period of time, but the battery usage went up almost 30-40% than what it used to be. Once in a while, it would reboot once, but then it would be back to normal.
This time, in late October, it started the reboot thing again, but this time, only going up to the HTC screen and looping that. I tried taking the battery cover off again and leaving it for hours, but same problem now. So I decided to leave it off for a day. By this time, I had my HTC Desire HD as backup, but it was unlocked, and at the time when I bought it, I didn't know anything about HSDPA numbers, so I could use my T-Mobile SIM, but no mobile network, since it's a Telus/AT&T phone.
I tried charging it, but this time, it lasted for a whole week. After rebooting over and over, it would last 3 hours, then stop because the battery would die out. So I just left it, and left it, and weeks went by, and my warranty had long since expired, so I couldn't go to HTC about this. I even called them to see what I could do, and they told me to do a Factory Reset, well... here is a list of the things I tried:
- IMAGE CRC: At first I didn't know what this was, and so I looked it up. After finding out what it was, I tried it, and I got two numbers: BL CRC-0xD19F79E1 and OS CRC-0x4CC706B. I looked those up on the internet and got nothing. I restarted the phone, and nothing happened at all. (If there was something else I was supposed to do here, please tell me!)
- Factory Reset: This was the LAST thing I wanted to do, but I had no choice and I tried it, hoping the error would be fixed. So I scrolled down to it, everything seemed to be normal, it gave me a warning, and I clicked it ... I was very suspicious of this, because as soon as I clicked "Factory Reset", it said "Reset complete. Press Volume Down to restart". I mean IMMEDIATELY after. Now, I KNOW that Factory Resets take much longer than an instant to actually have happened. But I restarted anyway. ... Nothing, still. I tried it several times after that, only to get the same result.
Those are the two options I tried, besides looking on the internet... if I can avoid buying a new Radar, I would like to, at all costs, because the next time I have a decent amount of money, I would like to save it for something else. Is there anything else I could try to resolve this issue, or at least gain more information on the problem?
Thank you all very much for reading my post!

May be it is a Hardware problem. Why you don't try to put HSPL and to cook custom rom ? I do this on mine few days ago and now the phone is more useful than before. I cooked HD2O ROM and till now working fine for me. When you change bootloader with HSPL may be it will work out if it is a Software problem. Also you need to change Radio Firmware other wise the device can not boot. When I am doing HSPL a few times phone just loop restarts and not start but after I do everything like it was in treads here and flash new radio the phone is working fine now. But may be there is a Hardware problem.

Thank you very much for responding! So just to be clear, how exactly do I go about flashing a ROM on the Radar, and a new radio? On Android phones, its much easier to root the device or simply place the ROM folder in there and make it work. I have no experience with doing this to a Radar, as I was previously led to believe that this was impossible. Should I just browse this forum?

Yes just browse this forum but only section about Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking. You will find DFT exclamation of how to install HSPL. In mine it was very easy because I not receive Country ID fail my phone was buy in Europe. If you receive Country ID error you need to proceed with goldcard it is explained there but first proceed without goldcard if it work it is very easy. Also when you proceed SPL2.05 it is not clear in the topic but you need to be in bootloader so you should start your phone with VolUp and VolDn keys pushed this is not explained in the topic and I waist a lot of time till figured out. After that just download one of the 7.8 ROMs here in Radar section and write it down. Also download new radio and use some RUU to put it on the phone before the ROM other wise the phone can not boot. Try and after that if you have problems write down here.
MY RADAR TURNED BACK ON! I don't know exactly what happened, but after a couple of reboots, the battery indicator flashed and then it rebooted twice until finally turning on the full amount.
Tonyco1 -- Thank you very much for staying with me and replying to my request! Although what you suggested is not needed for my booting issue, I'm going to try it anyway to see if I can actually boot 7.8! Thank you again.

Nexus 9 won't factory reset

I click erase everything and it just sits there. After waiting a minute I hit it again and still nothing. Then it usually just freezes and I have to manually restart the tablet. Any ideas why this is happening? Any way to force factory reset another way?

I don't think you're giving it enough time. Factory reset can take a long time. Give it 30 minutes.

My first Nexus 9 had also trouble factory resetting. I had dropped it and there was a nasty scratch in the screen, so I had to send it to the insurance company. The first factory reset did nothing, the second erased some things, but not everything and the third did the trick.
S0 keep trying, I would say.
Try doing it through the nexus root tool kit
Have you tried with fastboot commands?
PHP:
fastboot erase userdata
Or from Recovery Mode.
I had the same problem with mine and I was just not waiting long enough. Plugged it into a charger. It seems like its frozen. set it down and looked at it a few minutes later and it had rebooted and started he process.
Can you remember how long did it took to finish the final factory reset?
Happens for me to! It's no problem just wait and it will begin after some minutes
Indeed it worked after a long time. Thanks for the answer.
The OP was indicating that when he clicks the "Erase Everything" button, that the machine stops responding to user input, and shows no indication that it is performing the task as expected.
Indeed, I've tried to factory reset multiple times, and have had the same experience, including in safe mode! This is clearly one of the many problems with this device, as one of the times I attempted the reset, the tablet opened a box with the spinning wait circle and some text, only to stop spinning after less than one spin. Five minutes later, nothing. Beyond ridiculous for a Nexus device.
I'm surprised the whole lot hasn't been recalled.
