How to flash a kernel?
There are different ways of flashing a kernel, but the one I use is through CWM, because I do not trust ODIN, simple as that
Step 1: Download Kernel Cleaning Script if your coming from a different kernel and flash it before flashing the new kernel. If it's just an upgrade of the same kernel, wipe cache and dalvik before flashing.
Step 2: Flash desired kernel.
Step 3: Wipe Cache and Dalvik once kernel is done flashing.
Step 4: Reboot System.
You should run Kernel Cleaning Script for better result before changing kernal
Now question is what is Kernel Cleaning Script
Answer - The script cleans the left over files of a kernel, to prevent issues or compatibility problems when switching between kernels, kinda like Ccleaner for windows.
It does a cache wipe / dalvik cache wipe and a few other operations, basically it does the maintenance job for you, no need to manually do those tasks before flashing a new kernel.
Installation guide:
1. Download the zip file from the link Below.
2. Place the file on your internal SD-CARD.
3. Restart to ClockWorkMod Recovery.
4. Install the zip like any other package.
5. Install the Kernel of your choice.
6. Reboot the device.
7. DONE!

There is already a thread about the same kernel script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738&highlight=ultimate+kernel+cleaning+script

Hi: I've been enjoying using the CyanogenMod for a couple of months now and love it. Thanks to all who created it and continue to improve it.
I simply want to upgrade to the latest stable version. Here's what I "think" I need to do. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could verify the same.
1) put zipped flash onto root of SD Card
2) Backup phone using Titanium Backup
3) Power off phone and choose "recovery" shut-down option
4) Choose zipped flash from sdcard
5) Wait for flash to complete
The other options on the reboot menu include among other things: Wipe, Mounts, Other. I've read in other post that it's a good idea to wipe dalvick-cache. Should I do so - and am I missing anything else?
If there's already a thread out there that walks one through these steps, I was unable to find it - but would appreciate being pointed to the same.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Unless you are updating from a previous version of CM, you should always do a full wipe. Take backups of your sms, contacts, etc.

If you are goin' from froyo or other ROM you have to wipe ALL. It means Data (format system)/Cache/Dalvik Cache/BattStats . If you are goin' from earlier CM7 then wipe Cache/Dalvik cache/battstats.
Thanks dude!

Actually I think it's on RC1 for some time. I had this kernel for a week or so and it was very good.
I believe they have sorted most of the bugs.
If you want double boot, this is the way to go.
I have it and its pretty awesome.
Runs very good.
By the way I learned it installing by searching and reading

I found the easiest way was to use Mobile Odin. :good:
Stop answering the noob guy's gone.
Flash Siyah again. Use STweaks. Launch dual boot utilities. Format second ROM. Wipe caché and data. Wipe flash. Flash zip into second ROM. Wipe caché and data. Wipe dalvik. Fix permissions. Reboot..
Edit: Noob guy is gone..

Hi!!
I'm new to this world of roms and roots, and after installing Crdroid v12.0 a week ago, the new version 13.0 has just been released.
I just wanted to update the Crdroid ROM from v12.0 to v13.0. Could anyone help me do this? How do I need to do this? What are the neccessary steps, and does it mean i will lose all the data on my phone?
Thank you!!
Just flash it over your the older version. No need to do data wipe.
Isn't there a section in the Crdroid rom thread that tells these things?

You boot into Clockworkmod and choose install zip from sd-card. A directory opens, choose the rom to flash.
Now, because the rom has aroma options, you have to choose the things you want and don't want to install.
Btw there's a Thanks button.

boot into CWM recovery. wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. apply zip from sdcard. choose zip and installing..then again choose zip from sdcard and select gapps.zip. is this the procedure you are following? I do the same everytime and faced no problems till now. you ahould have the gapps.zip of the respective rom you flash prior to it.

booted into CWR
cleared the 3 catches
installed CM10.1
install Gapps
cleared 3 catchs again
....zero Gapps

that is a .tar file buddy. You can't flash it thriugh recovery. you have to put your mobile into download mode , connect to pc via uab. start desktop odin, select pda and then CWMtouch.tar file and hit start. then once you see the pass, it is done.
