Bricked Xperia PLAY, please help! - Xperia Play Android Development

So, here's the story, i've been on KA13 since it's been released, today i wanted to sell my phone, so i thought i should bring it back to the stock 2.3.4 ROM.
But i can't flash the ftf file anymore...

For some reason, it gets stuck there and won't go any further.
Tried it 20 times so far... same result.
The problem is that the phone won't even boot up anymore, when i press the power button, it simply vibrates but nothing comes up... i can press the power button every 10 seconds and it vibrates, but no boot up.
Also, the phone seems to not be charging battery either, when i plug the power cord, nothing happens...
P.S.: I tried flashing the official ICS BETA ROM, but when i get to the system.img file, it simply hangs there, even after 10 minutes:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot flash system

No seriously, I would make sure the .tft file isn't corrupted and redownload it.
Also you could try a other version of flashtool, and check your drivers.
Sent from my Xperia Play using XDA

are you still able to enter recovery or fastboot mode?

have you used flashtool before? try downloading a different ftf

@d_zen: i used 3 different .tfts from different sources, and different ROM versions, like .42, .58 and .62. Also, i've had the previous version of Flashtool, and then i updated to 0.8.0.0 to see if that was the fault.
@elnacho: recovery no, fastboot seems to be working, i've managed to flash kernels with it...
@ttiimm: yes, i've used it before, quite a few times actually. I'm going to download all the .tfts i can find and try them.

maybe try flashing an older firmware file like 2.3.3 and then update via pc companion

Happened to me on my windows 7 pc, tried a different pc (running XP) and it worked first time GL.

Check if you have fastboot, if not, you should relock bootloader first.
Also, try a different cable, usb port, reinstall drivers and and so on...

EDIT:Cumva telefonul e blocat intr-o retea? Pentru ca vad ca FlashTool ignora simlock.ta
EN: The problem are the drivers, try on another computer or try and wait a bit more with the flashing, I had to wait an hour once.Another thing, you can uninstall the driver in Device Manager while your phone is connected in fastboot/flashmode and then reconnect the phone to reinstall the drivers.
EDIT:By any chance your phone is simlocked?Because I see that the FlashTool ignores simlock.ta

Thanks for the suggestions guys, i managed to flash it at last!
I got to another computer and flashed it.
Seems like the drivers were at fault.

[Q] Confused as to what bootloop is...

Hi,
I have this behavior in my u20i phone that the phone will not boot. When i connect it to my PC, the PC detects the phone momentarily for around 5 seconds and then it disconnects and this will continue until i disconnect it. Does this mean my phone is bricked? Is this what a bootloop is? I read many threads on this forum, and for whoever was facing the problem of bootloop, he was atleast getting SE logo.
Now coming to my problem, i used s1tool to get the present details of my phone and it shows the following:
RUNNING S1_EROM VER "R8A029"
SOFTWARE AID: 0001
LOADER AID: 0001
FLASH ID: "0020/00BC"
LOADER VERSION: "R4A045"
MODEL (from GDFS): U20i
SOFTWARE VERSION: 1235-3411_2.1.1.A.0.6
CUSTOM VERSION: 1238-7170_R4B
.
.
SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE
The loader version tells me that the bootloader is not unlocked. Tried using SEUS update service to fix my phone back, but after completion, i still am stuck with this boot-looping. Any other suggestions? Any more information required to debug my problem? I had installed a custom rom which was working well (MiniCM7Pro_V21) until i restarted my phone which is when i got this problem. (had got a problem like this before but using SEUS had worked that time)
I can enter the flashmode of the phone atleast but thats it (this gives me some glimmer of hope )
My last resort will be to give my phone to the SE service guys but i wanna know what the problem is before i give it to them.
try again using SEUS????

well that's weird.. i think the only way u can get it working is as you can get into flashmode, you can unlock bootloader then flash the nAa kernel as its got inbuilt CWM recovery,so u can get into recovery mode.. then u can flash a custom ROM.. a perfect ROM would be MiniCm7 by nAa itself n then if u want to get back to stock.. u may flash stock kernel.. then relock bootloader n then use SEUS to get back to Stock ROM.. its a long proceduce but i think it shall work.. if any query fell free to ask.hope that helps you
note: Make sure your following proper instructions while unlocking bootloader , use my tool if u want SE Tweaker Tool n follow correct instruction n read its main thread before u use it..

Tried starting the phone but am having the same problem still...
Have given the phone today to the SE guys, will let you guys knw if it gets fixed or not (they tried updating, said they used some factory sent updater which didn't work after which they said its a hardware issue, which somehow i doubt)...
Got my phone back today and its in good working condition. They said they replaced the flexicable of my minipro which was faulty. Anyway am happy that its working now and am ready to flash a rom into it again Thanks for all your help and suggestions...

[Q] BootLoop, tried everything I could find.

So... Uhhh... Sorry for posting here! I saw the video "you're a noob" and got a little scared of posting here. But its almost 3 days without my phone, so I'm a bit of desperate! >>"
So, I got a X10a, and it was with 2.1 until yesterday. I've taken courage and was going to upgrade to 2.3. Pulgged the phone, downloaded the PC Companion, begin the upgrade. Everything went ok. Then I got in the bootloop. Panic at frist the I started to look for some solution. I flashed to 2.3 x10i generic using Flashtools. Still on bootloop. Flashed to 2.1 using flashing tools, still no good. Tryed to repair with PC Companion, no good. Flashed and flashed and flashed, tryed and tryed to repair and nothing. Still on bootloop, I just can't figure out what I can do! Even formating the SD I tryed, and nothing!
So, anyone can help me? I really need help here, I just can't find anything to help me!
Thank you very much! =)
Sorry for my bad english! =/
Try to flash the ROM 2 times with SEUS if it won't work by the first time. I had such a problem once. If it won't help try to flash this ROM via flashtool, and after that just normally (using SEUS) flash to stock 2.3.3.
Good luck
About SEUS... Can I use PCC repair? Like I can't find a SEUS working, it says "Failed checking application versions, please reinstall the application and make sure you have the latest version".
And THANK YOU SO MUCH for the quick answer!! I'm kinda morning my phone here!
I'm downloading the FM you just posted! =)

Don't know what to do anymore... Everything I read say that flashing should resolve... But still don't work
Anyone got a 1.6 Stock so I can try it? Can't find a working link.
did you try rooting your phone with flashtool and install xrecovery?
you can try that might work
The phone does not start... I think for me to root and instal xrecovery I need it to be functional, right?
I have another suggestion. Have u tried flashing another baseband? one that you're sure matchs the rom you flash? If your baseband is wrong installed ROM will be stuck forever.
Sorry, but I don't understand much about baseband. Can't find a easy understanding guide. My phone is from Brazil the company is VIVO. Can you explaim for me? Or show a good guide of it please?
Thank you! =)
EDIT: So, I found a 1.6 and flashed (Old stuff, Cmd). Now here is the diference, after 1.6 I try to turn on my phone and nothing happens, just the green let flash for like 0.5 secs.
When I try to upgrade to 2.1 by flashtool it turn on the screen but just that, no se logo or nothing, and it flicks from time to time.
When flahsing from SEUS I got the same stuff for 2.1.
Got a baseband 52, 54a, 55a and 49i. All I could find in the internet.
Baseband 52, 54a, 55a and 49i no good in SEUS flash.
With generic 2.1 from jakuburban: Tried 54i, 58i and 49i.
No dice... For Crist sake I'm kinda desperate right now!!! >>""""""""""""""""

To flash the baseband's use flashtool (can be downloaded on dev's section). I don't remember what baseband goes with each system version. I can only tell that 2.1.71 only works with Android 2.3.X
PS: finally found the baseband thread, where more detailed info is available: Baseband

Are u using a X10a or a X10i ?
I think it's X10a for your country (not sure but...)
So the baseband might be 2.1.65 or 2.1.54... 2.1.71 is for X10i according the baseband thread...

[SOLVED]is there special usb jig to directly make bootloader enter download mode?

i have a friend using samsung galaxy s2, and he said he is using some special modified usb that will make the bootloader enter download mode so that he flashed original firmware into his phone after it is bricked...
for x10 mini pro is there such cable? i need it because i think my phone is hardbricked...
it is bootloader unlocked and i flashed the original stock rom into the phone(in attempt to save condition where flashing customised kernel wasnt successful and it keep bootlooping...), and now i cant root it, cant On the phone to enter usb debugging mode, i cant do anything about it, i read so many threads but really didnt help me... , i can say that i tried all of them already...the phone just keep bootlooping the sony erricson logo on and off... using SEUS also didnt help because it shows i have latest version... and now i cant even flash other kernels because flashtool will show some error anyone facing this problem before? before i throw my phone my last hope will be the special usb that i want to find

Samsung phones can only be flashed using special cables, that is true, but SE provided a flashmode that always works, by turning off your phone and pressing the back-button before you plug in your usb-cable... In regards to that they're miles ahead of Samsung. Do you know how to get to Repair mode in SEUS or PC Companion?

the repair mode is something like flashing it using flashtool right? wait for the screen asking to connect with flashmode, off phone, press back button then plug in usb, but then SEUS shows i am having newest software? there is guide to make SEUS identify i am not having newest software version, but that is by turning on the phone, and getting file manager to edit something .prop files?
but sadly i really cant do that because i cant even turn on my phone now... what should i do? any other way to change the files inside my phone to make the SEUS detect i am not newest software so that it can download and flash the original rom inside my phone?

Try to flash THIS with flashtool, it's complete latest (2.1.1.A.0.6) firmware (Kernel and ROM) from SE.
(It comes in at about 213.5MB, although the site may report it's smaller. It will keep downloading until it's done though)

You said your bootloader was unlocked.. That doesn't seem to be the case...

yup, problem i cant flash roms other than stock roms because of locked bootloader...now i can only flash stock kernel, but cant update via SEUS/PCC because it cant detect newest version, probably because of 2.1update 1 version...do you have version 2.1 stock kernel? just wanna try other alternatives... by flashing stock older rom, hopefully SEUS will update it to 2.1update1 version...so far method that you provided now, and method that i think now is the last 2 method...

Yeh, you got it That is the basic procedure. As long as you follow the instructions in the kernel and rom threads carefully you should be ok.
The .ftf is made from the Sony Ericsson firmware that gets downloaded when you repair using SEUS or PC Companion. Not everyone can use the repair-option, that's why i keep it lying around

Follow the instructions carefully, for JB you need to do wipe data/factory reset (in xRecovery or CWM) before you flash the new kernel, and you have to format /system partition in mount and storage menu of CWM to get the proper partition size. After that you install the nAa's JB ROM and appropriate Google Apps, and if that is successful, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and in advanced menu wipe dalvik-cache and wipe batterystats... Then Reboot and wait...

Unflashable device, help!

Hello, I've bought a device which is really hard to repair & I'm running out of options!!! The X10 looks brand new but doesn't boot at all!
Until now I've tried Seus/PcCompanion & latest Flashtool.
What happens when I try to power up the device, it vibrates ones but the screen is just black( think because there isn't any firmware/ Rom on it).
When trying to flash a Generic Rom or any Rom at all it gets into flash mode but aboards the procedure.
I also thought that it might be Sim locked & I have to unlock it to get it repaired?! (tried Omnius tool but that didn't work).
When trying to repair with PcCompanion, while trying to install the update/firmware it cancels by telling me there's been a failure, try again or abort.
The same happens with SEUS!
I've tried both tools at least a dozen times without any success!
I never had problems with my other X10.
I'm starting to think it's hardware related & I'll have to take it to a pro.
If anyone has an idea, I t would really appreciate it, thanks!!!!!

i dunno if this can help . but when the vibrate wait like 6-10sec then flip to the right like you wanna look to the volumes buttons if you saw any whiteness in the dark of the screen then the phone cable is working . if it still black the cable might be got broken or something or maybe there is wire that got unplugged from its place
btw i think you better take it to pro

Thanks, I know what you mean with the whiteness but there isn't, it isn't booting at all & I have those two cables which both work, that can't be it. I think I'll let it get checked by a pro. Your English btw is really good, thanks for trying to help
I think either it's a loose cable inside the phone or maybe I have to flash a specific Firmware (maybe an older one, a down grade) but flashing has never worked.

Really !! didn't know lol xD
btw i meant the cable inside the phone that can let the screen work without it the phone will be working and you only see a black screen while actually the phone is working . so try this
1.Power on phone
2.after phone vibrate . plugin the usb at the same time in pc open flashtool
3.Wait like 6-10 sec if something like this appeared '' Device connected with USB debugging off ''
this means the phone actually working. then this might the inside cable problem . if non of this happened dunno what else i can do for you . did you take to a pro yet ??

Try stock back everything with SEUS first....
I have same problem on another x10.. there is a solution to fix.. probably you brke bootloader..and if it's so..then you have to give it to pro's... to flash whole firmware with box cable..not usb..
But before that..try this.. firstly...take original charger..and connect it to phone..let the battery charge..you can understand it's charging cuz in 30min's or so it will get heater... then pull off battery and let phone to lie without it for 20 min..then without battery connect phone to charger..and wait..you'll get green led.. wait 20 min after that...then put battery back and flash firmware with flashtool..with no firmware check option... flash whole firmware..kernel...baseband..etc..cuz now yo have empty phone... hope this helps..peace.

Thank You so much!!!
I´ve given away the phone to a phone repair shop which i think are really good. But since they haven´t called me back I think it´s quite tricky for them too. They´ll charge me 20€ if they can fix it & if not I´ll give Your procedure a Go!!!
Thanks for helping Fera!!!

Hi Fera!
My phone's still at the repair shop, this guy is convinced he can repair it by flashing the right patch?!? O think he means firmware, so I g gave him another hour to try.
You wrote that i should flash the firmware with no firmware check option?? How shall I do that? Best regards!!!!
Does S1Tool provide any insight into what the state of the phone is??
If it returns it's status, part of the output is the current file system.... or lack there of.

Not recognized simlock certificate
maybe you should unlock phone by settool2?
I thought maybe it has something to do with the simlock certificate, so i tried Omnius Tool but the problem is, you need to check ''Unknown Sources'' which i can´t, cause the phone doesn´t boot at all!

Thanks Bares for Your suport!!! I´ve taken a look into all of these links & had hope again But as i read & eg. tried the flash tool provided in the first link (FOTA unbrick), ones again it didn´t work. The problem there was, i needed to have unknown sources checked which i can´t check, cause the devicedoesn´t & has never booted up before.
And for all the other links, I haven´t got an unlocked bootloader, it´s definately locked, so they couldn´t help. Thanks anyway!!! I wrote Sony a mail, but i guess they´re not going to respond.
Perhaps I should try to unlock my bootloader, if it´s possible, i don´t know.
What worked until now was flashing this firmware (X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_GERMANY with flashtool) but as Fera sugested me to do (exclude Kernel & check no final verification). This only works if the device is without battery for approx 30 min.
I think I also managed to flash Baseband & Kernel this way Ones.
But only when i checked no final verification! Still the device didn´t boot up.....
After a lot of trying & flashing & errors I´m done for today & will continue tomorrow
Good Night
I just gave the Kernel and Baseband another try (unchecked final verification) and that´s what happened:

In my opinion it looks ok but it still doesn´t boot
About above FOTA unbrick, i just wanna show you the similar problem on 2011 devices, it could be due to broken bootloader.
For us (2010 device), this could be happened due to improperly bootloader unlocking (see my post on Fera's discussion thread).
BUT, it still not 'dead' yet (i mean this just software related issue, not an hardware) , since S1Tool can to detected your .
BTW, have you tried to downgrade to 1.6 or 2.1 ?.

I'll try to down grade my device after work! I already tried the 2.1 version, I'll give the 1.6 later.
One thing I recognized was, that when I plug in the charger, there's no led on & I think it's not charging!
Talk to you later, peace & thanks!!!

Xperia Mini Pro bricked?

Hey everybody!
I need a little help: I wanted to install the Unlimited ROM on my BL locked Xperia Mini Pro... I download the file, put it on my SD card, insert the SD card and boot my phone into recovery.
I format System, Data, and Cache, and go to flash the zip. When I tried, it said there was no SD card inserted!
Because I am a complete idiot, I try to reboot and it obviously won't go into recovery...
I already tried to flash the stock ROM with Flashtools, but it failed.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem?
Thanks in advance,
MustangEmile
Flashtool should work well, tell us which error you get
Or you try the repair options of PC Companion or Sony Update Service

I will try PC Companion, but I doubt it'll work...
Thanks for answering,
MustangEmile
EDIT: PC Companion doesn't recognize the phone...
Whenever I soft-brick my xmp, flashing a new kernel and starting over does the trick, but considering flashtool is not working for you... that's a bit more complicated than I thought.
First off, have you checked your FTF's integrity? exact file size? checksum? have you successfully used it in the past?
Also, can you boot to fastboot mode? if so, unlock your bootloader via sony's dev site and flash a custom kernel, as most of them have CWM built in. It's possible to start over from there.
Maybe it shut down when the flashing is about to start

I've already used this ftf multiple times in the past... I can't unlock my BL: My Xperia Mini Pro was bought through Orange and they disable the possibility to unlock it...

I highly doubt it: it's still on at the end, but thanks for your hypothesis
How sad, hope you can get it back up and running.

Try reinstalling the drivers and either connect the phone before selecting the ftf that you want to flash or select ir first and when the popup to connect the phone appears, connect it
