[Solved] System Recovery Disappears After Reboot - Motorola Droid X2

I recently received a new phone (sent the other one back because it wouldn't boot/charge anymore). Anyways, I am not sure if this is something that was occurring on my previous phone or not, but if I install MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk (which is a package I have had forever... maybe there is a newer version or something?) everything works fine until I reboot. I can get into recovery and create/restore a backup, install .zip files, etc. However, after I reboot the phone the icon for System Recovery is no longer in my app drawer. I can re-run the .apk from my external SD card and everything works fine again... until I reboot. Anyone seen this?
BTW Stock 2.3.5 1.3.418

I had that happen before, my solution was move it to system apps, worked at the time
I've SBFed since, and it's working fine

I guess I didn't clarify... I am not running it from my external sd card. That is where I have the installer... I have to reinstall it after every reboot.

That fixed it... though I don't know what changed. I remember before just hitting the .apk on my external sd card, it installed, and I was fat and happy after that... go figure.
Thanks!

Serious issue

Hello, I have to let you know that my knowledge over android is limited.
My (rooted) p500 was working flawlessly.
One day the music app just stopped working. I tried to uninstall it with an unistaller, and try to install it again. It wouldnt install for no reason. Just keeps "installing" and never ends.
Next step was performing full backup with the titanium backup. After that i restored the phone to the factory settings.
And here comes the major problem. Any app i try to intall Just keeps "installing" and never ends. Even from the market or just by running the apk.
I performed several restores to factory setting and it didnt help. I cleared the updates the cashe and the data from the Market app. Didnt help.
Is there any way to bring my phone back to normal?
use AppMonster to do your installs/uninstalls or Astro File Manager. I've experienced this issue with the latest version of titanium backup.
Well at this time my phone is useless. I can't install anything.
Is there a way back?

have you tried resetting to factory mode? HOME+VOL DOWN+POWER
I'll do it right now.
Well i thing holding down those keys is the same as doing it from the settings.
So yes i did it once again and nothing happened. Still cannot intall a s#!t!
oh boy... it sounds like it's time for an LG Stock ROM flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314
here is the stock ROM:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP509BK/ATMOBK/V10l_00/V10L_00.kdz
edited for latest stock rom.
I'll try it also! Thank you!
If its not too late, it might be better to use a lower version ROM as that is V10L. Which I believe is NOT ROOTABLE.

I tried to do the trick but i could make it through the drivers setup. I put the phone in the emergency mode. After that, and seeing that i couldn't got it working. I restarted the phone, did a reset to factory settings. My phone at this time WAS working.
I started installing apps, but after installing 13 of them, it stuck again. From now on it's in the same situation as before, i cannot install any more.
Should i try the trick again?
Try a different sd card.
Do you have custom recovery? If not, install it. And then you can install any custom rom.

What else have you done with your phone?
My phone did something like this before when I tried to force it to directly install everything new to my memory card which was Class 2. I used some command prompt stuff I found on the internet to instruct my phone to shift to SD card.\ storage.
It would be able to install some files and I even remember Angry Birds would install to SD card even before the mod. Then it would stop and hang at the installing screen after a while.
The solution (after a week at the service center) was to get a faster memory card. That's what the guy said. My temporary fix was to install everything to the Internal Memory like it is supposed to, and move them to the SD card using Titanium Backup. But this made some apps move too slowly...

I used an unistaller to unistall the preinstalled music app because it stopped working. When i tried to install it again that was it, it hangs at the installing screen forever.
According to the sd the only thing i used the move2sd, but i didn't use it.
My sd is class 6.
Is it normal that the superuser (root) remains after recovering to the factory settings?
Should i try to reinstall the software by myself or let the lg technicians do it?
Mind-blowing (for me) update.
While using the device without the sd, the apps get installed normally!
WTF?
PS: Should i use the FAT or the FAT32 file system on my sd card?
I used another sd and it seems to work till now.
Finally.
I formatted the sd card (fat32 just as it was before) and now everything works perfect.
The only minor issue is that i cannot install the music.apk
It always fails. I like when it fails, at least it doesnt freeze.
Do you now any way i could install it, or should i get over it and use an other music app?

Yes, you could get over it and try some other app. There's plenty of them on the market. I settled for doubleTwist.

[Q] Frozen LauncherPro now I'm stuck..

I was just finished installing a webtop hack for the Bell Atrix and apparently I didn't "unthaw" everything Moto related I needed to before "freezing" LauncherPro to resort back to the stock launcher..and now I've got no homescreen or nothing..
The phone boots up fine and everything..and I can get to my unlock code screen (and do an emergency call etc), but as soon as I unlock my phone it starts glitching out.
What can I do? Reboots do nothing..I do have access to the phone via webtop mod now..but even the Mobile View there does nothing..
Any ideas anyone?
I'm no expert, but have lurked long enough to guess that you probably need to flash the sbf file or something, to get yourself back to stock.
Problem is there is no Bell sbf yet. One has popped up here the last day or so but it is actually the Aussy sbf, which does technically work but there may be underlying "issues".
The problem is that you have no laucher installed?
If so:
Try to push the blurhome apk through adb.
Don't know how to do so however...
Use search
if i remember right, all you have to do is change the launcherpro apk back to apk because tiba freezes them by changing file extension, in webtop, can you access apk files in the system.

I assume you can rename a file through adb but you need to know the path and that it gets called when its frozen.
Otherwise you can do a factory reset through recovery.
Thanks..yea I just went ahead and did a factory reset. Was pleasantly surprised when I never lost root, webtop, or my Gingerbread theme (figured it would get wiped to scratch..lol)

In the future you can just use a desktop and log onto you're market account and download any launcher. It will be pushed to your phone and you can proceed to unfreeze your launcher. Won't lose any data that way.

good point I had thought of that but my thinking was limited to redownloading launcher pro which wouldn't have worked. meanwhile adw or another launcher probably would have worked out.

.android-secure help

So I tried to restore my phone multiple times from two different recoveries and every time it stops during it and the screen goes black and the only way to turn my phone on is to pull the battery. Everything but the .android-secure restores and I now have about 200 hundred apps that aren't installed on my phone and I don't want to have to go through all that again, the apps still show as installed on my phone, but the the data on my SD card is missing, does anyone know how I can get this back?
Did you actually wipe your.android_secure folder?
Sent.
No, I never wiped it. After I restored my phone it was empty
Did you ever try to move 200?? apps to sd?
Sent.
Yes all the apps were on my SD card already. But they were moved over one by one so it wasn't a major hassle. I tried doing it through TWRP now and it won't restore at all anything that is.

Is your Sdcard partitioned, and, if so, are you running a ROM that supports A2SD?
Sent.
No I never did a superwipe or anything of the sort, I didn't have any Titanium Backups either, never planned on flashing a new ROM, still haven't. The backup was through CWM the newest update 4.0.1.5 I tried restoring through that and the Revolutionary 4.0.1.4, neither worked. I moved all the recovery files over to TWRPs backup location and they none of the partitions would restore. My SD is not partitioned and I'm on a rooted stock ROM. I'm only talking about regular App2SD apps that are supported by Android, like Angry Birds and Google Earth.

Those go straight to your secure folder. I don't ever use CWM, as a rule, but it seems that somehow your CWM Nandroid didn't include that folder...I don't know how it got wiped, but my guess is that whatever rom you flashed included a Superwipe script, which would've wiped that folder. (another thing I don't use-Superwipe) If you go in with root explorer or whatever file manager, you can manually verify that a) your secure folder is empty (which it sounds like you've done), and also check under your /clockworkmod recovery folders to see if you actually have a backup for the secure folder.
If it's not there, then, unfortunately it's lost.. You can get the apps back from the market, though.. PM me if you have any 'hard to come by' apps you might need that don't show up on the market.
Good luck.

OK so what recovery did you make the backup? I don't think TWRP backup work in CWM. Also, you don't even NEED to restore the .img you're talking about. You can restore boot, system, data, and it should boot. If you need your apps back, download them. Then back them up with titanium backup. Koushik can be found in #cyanogenmod-dev on freenode, but I don't think you need to bug him. It sounds like your phone boots right? If you need more help come into our d3rp thread, linked in my sig.
Thanks, yeah I decided to just reset my phone anyway, to fix the black screen of death and everything. Just sucks I can't remember what all my apps were and I'm like a hundred short now

That one is fine to use on Eclipse. But pretty much any other ROM we have (CM7, CM9, CM10, AOKP, Paranoid Android and I think even MIUI), you need to use the CM7 BSR named "MOTODX2_Bootstrap-CM7-signed.apk" which is found in the CM7 thread. That may have been the problem.

I think CM10 is more stable than any of the ICS ROMs. But with the stability, there comes other small issues that the ICS ROMs dont have. Its a trade off. Main issues of CM10:
1. Messing with bluetooth may cause phone to crash durring calls. Reboot fixes it until bluetooth is messed with again. (Might be fixed with an update)
2. Storage is in a different location. Not really an issue but its also swapped back to the original 4gigs for the internal. All your files will be flipped after using other ROMs for so long. (not a huge deal)
3. Due to the storage being moved around, apps that are stored on the SD card will disappear after reboot. (will probably be fixed in the future)
4. Flashing ROMs in recovery wont work. If any update comes out, you have to either SBF and update or nandroid back to ICS and update. (again, not a huge issue)
Other than that, I cant really think of any bad stuff. Its faster and I have no random reboots. I recommend it if you can live with the issues I mentioned which are honestly not bad.
Also, with the BSR files, in case you dont know already. When you are on stock 2.3.4, you first use the original BSR. Then when you flash CM10, you install the CM7 BSR.
Thanks JS
1. I never use blue tooth so then i should be all set then.. correct?
2. didnt aokp have that. I know the eclipse rom had the flip flop in it to read right but aokp i had to move my music and such so wouldnt i still be in the same boat or is it different than oakp?
3. i have some apps.. such as thems i have downloaded off of xda. So once installed they will work but rebooting will make them dissapear? is there a way to put these on the phone memory? Also curious i have google drive and have some of these installed on the drive. Will they still work or do they just dl to the sd and still not work?
4 i dont have a problem sbf'g but wondering if i nandroid the a2, will i be able to sbf, install root, a3 ect and do a data restore to get my info back?
also i will take the cm7 bsr and remeber that. Thanks

1. I use bluetooth every now and then but I never turn it off. It seems that toggling the bluetooth on and off or visa versa triggers the issue and a reboot fixes it again.
2. I forget what Eclipse had. Its been so long. But ever since CM7, the flip flop mod has been included in all the ROMs which meant you got your SD card (which the droid X2 comes with 8GB) as internal storage and the actual 4GB internal storage was turned into the "external storage." CM10 reverted back to the original 4GB internal and 8GB external.
3. Everything you download and install on your phone will usually be installed on the internal storage. I think if you have apps over a certain size (which isnt very many. Mostly games), they are installed on your SD card. Those are the ones the system has a problem reading after a reboot. the actual files you have downloaded from XDA will still be there. Just installed apps might disappear.
4. Not really sure what you are asking here. But if you get A2 installed and up and running and A3 comes out, You will pretty much need to start over. But for me, thats fine. I use Titanium Backup and restore everything after a wipe anyway. What data are you referring to?

Pete's can be a PITA... If usb debug is enabled and unkown sources is checked just keep trying. I've had to "one click" 5 or 6 times before it works right. Close the program between tries. Also make sure your phone isn't in PC charge mode or anything.

Lol oh and btw MD5 checksums are
"The MD5 checksum for a file is a 128-bit value, something like a fingerprint of the file. There is a very small possibility of getting two identical checksums of two different files. This feature can be useful both for comparing the files and their integrity control."

[Q] CM 10 apk install from SD

Upgraded to CM10. I did an SBF (2.3.4) wiped everything and installed CM10 Alpha 2 and GAPPS (jb-10121011). So far the only issue I have (other than know issues):
After getting CM10, GAPPS, Bootstrap Recovery installed, I used Titanium to restore most of my apps, but wanted to do a clean install on Flash Player. So went in found the apk using my file mgr, selected "install", went to what I call the Android Install screen with two buttons at the bottom (Cancel & Install), tried to select the Install, nothing happened. I do have "Unknown Sources" checked in Security. I have tried other apk's just to test and none seem to work. Tried to move the apk's to the SD0 card, and that had no effect either. I figure I am missing a setting somewhere, can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
I havent had this issue and I dont know of anyone else with this issue. Thats weird. What happens when you press install? It just stays on that screen and doesnt proceed? Maybe just restart your phone and try again.

I did try a reboot and a power off, neither seem to work. I did use the new GAPPs when I did this CM10 install, so I even thought about going back and using the jb-20120726 gapps I had installed with my last CM 10 install, but figured the new ones were out for a reason and that may not be a good idea. So right now looks like the only way I can install anything is from Play Store. Even tried AppInstaller from Play Store and it did no better than the File Mgr.

I dont think the Gapps would have anything to do with it. Those are just google apps. The system handles the file installations. But who knows, maybe it does have something to do with it. I've just never heard of that issue before.

Yeah after thinking about it think you are correct. This is based on the fact that I installed CM10, then the GAPPS, then installed the Bootstrap (CM7) which was an apk, so it worked then. After that I restored apps from Titanium and flashed a "softkey zip", so I am going to Nandroid back before the softkey flash and see what happens. If needed I will just start over.
Thanks for your thoughts

If you did install the bootstrap then something after that definitely messed with it. I wouldn't think its the soft key mod though because I also have that installed and I can still install apks.

still not sure what happened, but somehow the SD Cards were swapped. The SD0 Card was my external card and the SD1 was the internal card. Still not sure what happened, but I will not be using Titanium to restore apps this time.
again, thanks for you help

How did you get the SD Cards swapped. Thats usually what people want. lol. And restoring apps with Titanium Backup isnt bad. I do it all the time. Im thinking you might have restored SYSTEM data. Which could explain why it set your SD Cards that way. Never restore system data. I find it not that hard to reset whatever system setting you had previously anyway.

didn't think I did a system data restore, I know that is VERY BAD when changing/upgrading ROMs, but who knows I may have hit a wrong button. Anyway it is working now and I am in the process of setting up the apps, which will probably wait until tomorrow since I have the basics all working.
thanks again for your help
