Upgraded to CM10. I did an SBF (2.3.4) wiped everything and installed CM10 Alpha 2 and GAPPS (jb-10121011). So far the only issue I have (other than know issues):
After getting CM10, GAPPS, Bootstrap Recovery installed, I used Titanium to restore most of my apps, but wanted to do a clean install on Flash Player. So went in found the apk using my file mgr, selected "install", went to what I call the Android Install screen with two buttons at the bottom (Cancel & Install), tried to select the Install, nothing happened. I do have "Unknown Sources" checked in Security. I have tried other apk's just to test and none seem to work. Tried to move the apk's to the SD0 card, and that had no effect either. I figure I am missing a setting somewhere, can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
I havent had this issue and I dont know of anyone else with this issue. Thats weird. What happens when you press install? It just stays on that screen and doesnt proceed? Maybe just restart your phone and try again.

I did try a reboot and a power off, neither seem to work. I did use the new GAPPs when I did this CM10 install, so I even thought about going back and using the jb-20120726 gapps I had installed with my last CM 10 install, but figured the new ones were out for a reason and that may not be a good idea. So right now looks like the only way I can install anything is from Play Store. Even tried AppInstaller from Play Store and it did no better than the File Mgr.

I dont think the Gapps would have anything to do with it. Those are just google apps. The system handles the file installations. But who knows, maybe it does have something to do with it. I've just never heard of that issue before.

Yeah after thinking about it think you are correct. This is based on the fact that I installed CM10, then the GAPPS, then installed the Bootstrap (CM7) which was an apk, so it worked then. After that I restored apps from Titanium and flashed a "softkey zip", so I am going to Nandroid back before the softkey flash and see what happens. If needed I will just start over.
Thanks for your thoughts

If you did install the bootstrap then something after that definitely messed with it. I wouldn't think its the soft key mod though because I also have that installed and I can still install apks.

still not sure what happened, but somehow the SD Cards were swapped. The SD0 Card was my external card and the SD1 was the internal card. I discovered that just before I decided to to SBF and start over. I am back at CM10A2 and at this point everything looks good. Still not sure what happened, but I will not be using Titanium to restore apps this time.

How did you get the SD Cards swapped. Thats usually what people want. lol. And restoring apps with Titanium Backup isnt bad. I do it all the time. Im thinking you might have restored SYSTEM data. Which could explain why it set your SD Cards that way. Never restore system data. I find it not that hard to reset whatever system setting you had previously anyway.

didn't think I did a system data restore, I know that is VERY BAD when changing/upgrading ROMs, but who knows I may have hit a wrong button. Anyway it is working now and I am in the process of setting up the apps, which will probably wait until tomorrow since I have the basics all working.
thanks again for your help

Hello, I have to let you know that my knowledge over android is limited.
My (rooted) p500 was working flawlessly.
One day the music app just stopped working. I tried to uninstall it with an unistaller, and try to install it again. It wouldnt install for no reason. Just keeps "installing" and never ends.
Next step was performing full backup with the titanium backup. After that i restored the phone to the factory settings.
And here comes the major problem. Any app i try to intall Just keeps "installing" and never ends. Even from the market or just by running the apk.
I performed several restores to factory setting and it didnt help. I cleared the updates the cashe and the data from the Market app. Didnt help.
Is there any way to bring my phone back to normal?
use AppMonster to do your installs/uninstalls or Astro File Manager. I've experienced this issue with the latest version of titanium backup.
Well at this time my phone is useless. I can't install anything.
Is there a way back?

oh boy... it sounds like it's time for an LG Stock ROM flash.

here is the stock ROM:

edited for latest stock rom.
I'll try it also! Thank you!
If its not too late, it might be better to use a lower version ROM as that is V10L. Which I believe is NOT ROOTABLE.

I tried to do the trick but i could make it through the drivers setup. I put the phone in the emergency mode. After that, and seeing that i couldn't got it working. I restarted the phone, did a reset to factory settings. My phone at this time WAS working.
I started installing apps, but after installing 13 of them, it stuck again. From now on it's in the same situation as before, i cannot install any more.
Should i try the trick again?
Try a different sd card.
Do you have custom recovery? If not, install it. And then you can install any custom rom.
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk.
What else have you done with your phone?
My phone did something like this before when I tried to force it to directly install everything new to my memory card which was Class 2. I used some command prompt stuff I found on the internet to instruct my phone to shift to SD card.\ storage.
It would be able to install some files and I even remember Angry Birds would install to SD card even before the mod. Then it would stop and hang at the installing screen after a while.
The solution (after a week at the service center) was to get a faster memory card. That's what the guy said. My temporary fix was to install everything to the Internal Memory like it is supposed to, and move them to the SD card using Titanium Backup. But this made some apps move too slowly...

I used an unistaller to unistall the preinstalled music app because it stopped working. When i tried to install it again that was it, it hangs at the installing screen forever.
According to the sd the only thing i used the move2sd, but i didn't use it.
My sd is class 6.
Is it normal that the superuser (root) remains after recovering to the factory settings?
Should i try to reinstall the software by myself or let the lg technicians do it?
Mind-blowing (for me) update.
While using the device without the sd, the apps get installed normally!
WTF?
PS: Should i use the FAT or the FAT32 file system on my sd card?
I used another sd and it seems to work till now.
Finally.
I formatted the sd card (fat32 just as it was before) and now everything works perfect.
The only minor issue is that i cannot install the music.apk
It always fails. I like when it fails, at least it doesnt freeze.
Do you now any way i could install it, or should i get over it and use an other music app?

I have rooted V10L no problem with z4root
I tried flashing the Rom yesterday and was successful. The issues I had revolve around restoring my apps. I used My Backup Root for stock to Froyo, but this time it seemed as though the apps were on the phone and the card, which cause an error stating that I didn't have enough memory. What should I have done to restore the apps to preserve the memory? I also received force close error for SetCPU, SlideIt (which I love), and a few others.
Also, what is the benefit of partitioning my sd card and does doing so erase it's current contents?
Lastly, are the nightlies a full rom or just part that needs to be flashed? If found some on CMs website, but not here.?
Yes, I'm a NOOB.

Regarding your nightly question, they are full ROMs...the difference between them is the code that was committed within the previous 24 hours. Of course that also means that, in theory, some of the nightlies could be 100% the same...anyway, the nightlies can be a beautiful thing or a disasterous thing...usually if there's an issue with a nightly it is quickly found by those who flash each nightly and it is brought up around 3.2 million times and it is typically fixed by the next nightly.
Partitioning usually does mean a wipe of data on the SD. Careful!
When I upgraded to a 32GB flash from the stock 2GB from my Aria, I backed up the entire contents and restored on the new one. Apparently there is volume information stored somewhere (not sure where) and the phone couldn't recognize the card and asked me to partition it.
Because I had a backup, I decided to do so, but instead of partitioning for the entire size of the chip, it partitioned only 2GB!
So I had to stick it into a reader and repartition it manually and then selectively restore music, etc back on the card.
After that it worked just fine. So short version: yes it does.

You will need to creaate an sd-ext partition to fix the issue of installing (larger) apps with CM7.
The best way would be through ROM Manager.
wifi
Installed the RC2 and can't connect to a hidden SSID wifi network.
That is a known issue with the wifi driver on cm7 thus far. Not sure if it will be corrected though. Anyone else know if it is in the works?

Great input from everyone. Thanks! Following up on the sd-card partitioning... I have a new 8g card and want to more to CM7. If I partition it, what happens when I restore the backed up app using My Backup Root? And, what is the best partition configuration, why, and what info get store in each section (ext)?
Thanks...

The easiest way to partition is using your ROM manager.
Just select the max size for SD-EXT (I think it would got to 512MB), and none for swap.
I'm not sure if this would have any effect on your backup - I myself started out from scratch and got my apps from the market even though I had made an Astro backup...
You will store all your stuff - music, pictures etc in the normal partition. The SD-EXT will be automatically handled by the phone.

You should be able to flash each new nightly without losing any of your settings/customizations/homescreens and apps.
While upgrading from ROM manager, just check the backup option, don't check wipe data and cache.
I can confirm this works transitioning from 14 to 22 because I just did it yesterday night
As for the GPS problem, thats a known issue - the workaround is to make a nandroid backup of your current cm7, then do a complete phone reset, then do a nandroid restore of cm6 or 6.1 (hope you have one), do another factory reset, and restore your cm7 from the backup you took in the 1st step

first of all, i would never suggest using rom manager for things such as that. historically it has only caused problems and has been more of an inconvenience than anything. second of all, when you boot into CWM and do it the right way, don't wipe data, it's suggested but not necessary that you wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the rom and you'll be good.
Thanks to both of you. Big help and not deleting the data did the trick. Looks like I'm good to go and GPS is working well again. Is there a way to ensure I don't have duplicate apps taking up space on the card and phone? I'm getting errors on moving some apps to the sd card.

Not all apps can be moved to the FAT32 partition on the SD card. Widgets also, won't work properly if moved to the SD FAT32.
If you need more memory, look into (read up) partitioning your sd card with a ext3 partition and installing S2E or Dark Tremor a2sd (DT a2sd).

Oh, I had no idea about that, thanks for the info.
I've been using ROM manager without any problems so far, apart from one lately, that when I reboot to recovery, I always get an error screen - exclamation mark in triangle...but I just pull the battery and reboot into recovery manually and it starts whatever command I had given it (backup/new rom) automatically...
So I tried to restore my phone multiple times from two different recoveries and every time it stops during it and the screen goes black and the only way to turn my phone on is to pull the battery. Everything but the .android-secure restores and I now have about 200 hundred apps that aren't installed on my phone and I don't want to have to go through all that again, the apps still show as installed on my phone, but the the data on my SD card is missing, does anyone know how I can get this back?
Did you actually wipe your.android_secure folder?

No, I never wiped it. After I restored my phone it was empty

Yes all the apps were on my SD card already. But they were moved over one by one so it wasn't a major hassle. I tried doing it through TWRP now and it won't restore at all anything that is.

No I never did a superwipe or anything of the sort, I didn't have any Titanium Backups either, never planned on flashing a new ROM, still haven't. The backup was through CWM the newest update 4.0.1.5 I tried restoring through that and the Revolutionary 4.0.1.4, neither worked. I moved all the recovery files over to TWRPs backup location and they none of the partitions would restore. My SD is not partitioned and I'm on a rooted stock ROM. I'm only talking about regular App2SD apps that are supported by Android, like Angry Birds and Google Earth.

Those go straight to your secure folder. I don't ever use CWM, as a rule, but it seems that somehow your CWM Nandroid didn't include that folder...I don't know how it got wiped, but my guess is that whatever rom you flashed included a Superwipe script, which would've wiped that folder. (another thing I don't use-Superwipe) If you go in with root explorer or whatever file manager, you can manually verify that a) your secure folder is empty (which it sounds like you've done), and also check under your /clockworkmod recovery folders to see if you actually have a backup for the secure folder.
If it's not there, then, unfortunately it's lost.. You can get the apps back from the market, though.. PM me if you have any 'hard to come by' apps you might need that don't show up on the market.
Good luck.

OK so what recovery did you make the backup? I don't think TWRP backup work in CWM. Also, you don't even NEED to restore the .img you're talking about. You can restore boot, system, data, and it should boot. If you need your apps back, download them. Then back them up with titanium backup. Koushik can be found in #cyanogenmod-dev on freenode, but I don't think you need to bug him. It sounds like your phone boots right? If you need more help come into our d3rp thread, linked in my sig.
Thanks, yeah I decided to just reset my phone anyway, to fix the black screen of death and everything. Just sucks I can't remember what all my apps were and I'm like a hundred short now
so this is what happened, i installed a fresh rom, checked the music app and it could read all my music files. then after running antutu benchmark, the music app will show "please insert an sd card".
i tried unmounting and remounting the card but doesnt work.
however, if i go into astro, i can see all the contents of the card and can play music and movies from the app.
does anyone know how to fix this?
reboot maybe?
tried that. doesnt work.
Try clearing the data on the music app. In setting/applications/manage application

I think we might both be having the same problem...my Music app can't find any music, and my Gallery app can't find any pictures!
Someone told me to reformat my sd card (which was a two-hour chore) and re-load all my files, but that didn't help. Like yourself, the only way I've been able to fix the problem is to flash a rom from scratch, but the problem invariably returns.
Is your Gallery app able to see any of your pics?

What's with you and capital letters... seriously...
Anyway, there are a few things you can do to fix the problem.
First, try clearing data in the app like suggesting before. Go to settings, applications, (system or downloaded apps), select the music app, and clear data.
If that doesn't work, try removing the music.apk (or whatever music app you're using) from /system/app/ and reboot. Get one from your ROM and put that in /system/app/ and reboot. If it ever worked on your ROM, it should work now.
If for some reason even that won't work, it sounds like a kernel/device/SD Card problem. Device/SDcard would be extremely unlikely because if it works in root explorer, it should work in Music. Even a kernel issue sounds unlikely, but you should try flashing the kernel the ROM came with to be sure.
That should fix it, but if any of those don't, chances are getting a new music player app should detect the SD card. Uninstall your original music app from /system/app/ and install google music from the market. This should definitely fix the problem if the other stuff didn't work.
If it STILL doesn't detect the SD card, try reformatting the SD card.

Can't speak for the OP, but for my own part I've already tried everything you suggested (as I stated, I've been wrestling with this for several weeks now), with no joy. And the problem recurs regardless of rom or kernel, or any particular combination thereof (and I've tried LOTS of rom/kernel combos).
Clearing data from the app didnt work. also tried going to system/app to reinstall the app. cannot install. shows a error parsing package message.
@oldjackbob
yeah, my gallery isnt functioning as well.
edit:
by the way, reflashing the kernel didnt fix the issue.

So our phones are acting like there might be some kind of system flag that somehow keeps getting set to the wrong state by a custom rom or kernel (or rom/kernel combo), and the only way to reset the flag is by flashing a rom (any rom) again. But eventually the flag gets bumped to the wrong condition again, and clearing caches or re-installing apps doesn't fix the flag setting.
Is there anyone out there who might be able to make any sense out of a debug dump if I was to generate one? Such a person would need to let me know exactly how to get a dump of info for them.
Sure hope someone with more brains than myself can help us through this!
If anyone else is having the same problem that the OP and I are having, please speak up..
TIA
what ROM are you guys on, and what ROMs have you tried? I know you said it's across various ROMs I'm just curious. Also, what hboots do you guys have and how you rooted? And what recovery and version? Any kernel you flashed? Just trying to get as much info as possible.
For info, please get a logcat. I do NOT think I'll be able to fix this, but I'm willing to *Try*...
get this WHILE trying to play music, or access gallery.
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
then upload to pastebin and link here, or PM.
I has an sd scare last week where recovery wouldn't read it. This was after removing the sd, inserting into a reader on my comp to mess with files, and reinstalling into phone. Booted into recovery to flash an update I had just made on comp and put into sd from comp - but recovery wouldn't read it. So I (oddly) had to pull the sd again, reinsert, reboot to OS, reboot to recovery, and it worked, thankfully. Unrelated, but it was my sd story
I'm curious as well. What rom are you guys on???

Someone told me to reformat my sd card (which was a two-hour chore) and re-load all my files, but that didn't help. Like yourself, the only way I've been able to fix the problem is to flash a rom from scratch, but the problem invariably returns.
Is your Gallery app able to see any of your pics?
I'm extremely anxious to find a cure, as Ive been living with this problem for about three weeks now..

Kind thanks, Duce. I'm at work right now so I won't be able to get a logcat until I get home this evening, but here's my current phone setup:
Currently on Warm2.3 Sense3.5 r52 (damn, I love this rom!) and Tiamat Sense kernel (early 1.03 I believe). I was hoping this rom might immunize me from the problem, but apparently not. Currently running System Tuner Pro, but when the problem first appeared I was running System Tuner free. Baseband 0.97.10.0808, PRI 1.24_003, PRL 21081. Rooted via the Revolutionary exploit, hboot 1.04.2000, Eng S-off RL. TWRP 1.0.3 recovery (I don't care for the capacitive buttons on 1.1.1). Running a 32GB class 10 sd card, low-level formatted it last night and restored all my files, but that made no change from before. Prior to that, I tried pulling the sd card from its slot and re-inserting it, that didn't work either.
When the problem first occured I think I was running one of chad's Infected kernels (not saying the kernel caused the problem). I've played with a number of his undervolt kernels over the last couple of months, very nice kernels, but they always get laggy for me after a few hours (a reboot fixes that for awhile, then it gets laggy again). The problem also occurs now with RCMIX v11 kernel. I think I was running ARHD's 1.1.2 rom when the problem first surfaced, but I can't be sure now (not that the rom caused the problem, either). I was also running xron's rev117 rom for awhile, so maybe I had that one installed then, I just can't remember now. In any case, it doesn't matter what rom or kernel I run now, the problem always pops up eventually, and will only go away with a new rom flash, and will always return again after a day or two.
I've even tried pulling the sd card from its slot and re-inserting it, didn't work.
I'll get a logcat for you this evening, thanks again Duce.

I did a low-level format from the pc, laie. Took two hours to format a 32GB card, lol. Then I reloaded all my files and rebooted the phone, and Gallery and Music apps still weren't working.
Edit: Yes, after the low level format I did a Format SD Card from recovery's Advanced Menu (but that operation took less than a second to complete, if that matters).
Edit: I also tried a Factory Data Reset in settings a few days ago, problem still remained.
You skipped the recovery format step. When my sd card starting acting wacky this always worked for me. But just formatting it threw my pc wouldn't solve my issue. It wasn't untill I formated it threw my recovery did it actually solve the issue. Not saying it will solve yours but it might. So If you have the time I'd suggest format your sd threw your pc and a quick format should suffice. Then before you place your data back on ypur sd put the sd in your phone and format it threw recovery. With no swap no partitions. Then put your data back on and see if that helps. Hope it does.

Yes sir, I did all that (see my edited post above yours). Sorry I didn't answer that earlier.
Edit: I'm fairly certain at this point that the sd card itself isn't the problem. The low level format from the pc does an extremely thorough multiple write/read on every sector (that's why it takes so long to complete).
Besides, the OP and I are both experiencing the exact same multi-faceted malfunction, which suggests some other problem besides a random card defect.
I recently received a new phone (sent the other one back because it wouldn't boot/charge anymore). Anyways, I am not sure if this is something that was occurring on my previous phone or not, but if I install MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk (which is a package I have had forever... maybe there is a newer version or something?) everything works fine until I reboot. I can get into recovery and create/restore a backup, install .zip files, etc. However, after I reboot the phone the icon for System Recovery is no longer in my app drawer. I can re-run the .apk from my external SD card and everything works fine again... until I reboot. Anyone seen this?

I had that happen before, my solution was move it to system apps, worked at the time
I've SBFed since, and it's working fine

I guess I didn't clarify... I am not running it from my external sd card. That is where I have the installer... I have to reinstall it after every reboot.

That fixed it... though I don't know what changed. I remember before just hitting the .apk on my external sd card, it installed, and I was fat and happy after that... go figure.
Thanks!
