[Q] Getting PS3 Controller paired with HTC EVO 3D for OnLive - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. I'm trying to get my Xbox 360 Controller working with my HTC EVO 3D. I bought a mini usb to female usb so I can hook both things together--but the indicator lights on my controller does not work. It is running Android version 2.3.4 and HTC Sense version 3.0. I'd like to know if there is a way to get these two paired and working with the app OnLive. Thanks.
Edit: So I ordered a PS3 controller. I'm very new to this stuff, so can someone explain how to get a PS3 controller paired with my phone for OnLive and explain how to root it? Once again, thank you guys so much.

You can't do it.
Microsoft requires certain drivers, and so you'd need the drivers on Android.
Ps3, however, is a different story. I've used a ps3 controller with onlive without problems.

I've edited original post for new question instead of creating a new topic. How do you pair a PS3 controller with HTC EVO 3D? Thanks everyone.

Gamepad question

Hey everyone! I'd like to start out saying this is the most awsome close knit community I've seen on the web. I love all the hard work roe and the boys are doing and the group In general. Hopefully I'll be joining the ranks of owners of the best bang for the buck tablet currently on the market come Christmas day.
Now for the question. Is there/will there be a way to use a USB gamepad on this device? I'd love to get my mario on while waiting on flights. I understand we can use a keyboard for this at the moment so I'm more interested in gamepads.
Thanks for the help and merry Xmas, happy holidays, and bah humbugs for all you scrooges out ther.
No gamepads currently work through USB, except bluetooth Wii controller being an exception )but not usb so really not an exception). Be neat if there was a gamepad that used standard keyboard codes.
I have had no luck with bluetooth Wii controllers, so maybe only on Vegan rom.
I was wondering about this as well. I read somewhere they were trying to sync a PS3 controller too. i have a sweet USB Original NES controller I would love to play some NESOID with.
Got wii working on tnt 3.1. Just installed wii remote from market.
Wii mote and classic controller work - using wiimote app in the app market.. tnt lite, vegan, and cm6.1 all support it
Granted not usb controller - but I like the wireless option anyhow.. I carry the wiimote + classic controller in the case with my tab.
Wouldn't it be possible to get USB Gamepads working by adding it to the kernel?

Oh man, I'm salivating at the idea of using XBox 360 controllers on this thing!
I too would love to see some development on using a USB Gamepad with the G-Tablet as well.
I'd also love to see USB gamepad support!

Anyone paired their PS3 controller with their X10?

have any one successfully paired their PS3 controller with their phone? i got my custom rom installed + SNES emulator running, would be fun to pair it up with my PS3 controller too!
Pretty sure you can't use a dual shock 3 with android phones yet.
You can use a nintendo wii mote though, with a classic controller attached is best your gonna get i'm afraid
ps3 controllers pair over USB rather than bluetooth they just connect via bluetooth so it would require USB host mode enabled (already done on big x10 not sure about minis) and most likely special software
I am going to try this app tonight when i get home:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689984
Not sure that is for Android phones...
did it work? because is says sony xperia in the list of compatible phones there.
haha... sadly, it said its for window phone

[Q] Onlive Bluetooth Controller

Hey everyone, if you haven't tried onlive on the 3d, download the app and grab a free lego batman game.
Anyway, my question pertains to the onlive controller and the 3D's bluetooth. I know that the wiimote and PS3 controller cannot connect to the stock rom to play emulators or anything. So, does anybody know about the Onlive controller? Is it compatible with the 3D's bluetooth stack? I just don't want to shell out $50 to find out. Thanks!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Onlive controller on the Evo 4G
I'm using it on my evo 4g. Turns out you need android 3.1 or 4.0 to run the controller,so I'm running deck ics alpha1 in one of my boot manager slots. I don't think cyanogen 7.1 supports HID, from what I understand that's the problem, the master and slave are switched. They say connected but no response form button input. It works on 4.0 but it's a little laggy, still testing.
Thanks for the reply! I think the best way to go about it would be getting a transformer prime

I see these female usb adapters do they work using a ps3 and or xbox controller? They all say Android 3.0 or higher. Or how bout the Gamestop wireless controller. I have all the consoles so i rather use a controller i already have if possible. Btw I'm looking to play gta3 and emulators snes nes gba.

I havn't tried any yet, but it's a start. You may want to try one or two then post a controller specific thread to catch the attention of those who already have tried and done what you are working on. Hope that helps.
Well i read wii mote doesn't work with touchwiz our something. i just figured there had to be someone who has had some progress. I don't wanna be buying things if it doesn't work right now. They all say honeycomb 3.0 our higher for usb host.

I've seen it work, but that has always been on custom ROMs, not sure if the use of a wiimote is restricted to custom ROMs due to proper BT drivers being cooked into them or not. I never really had any desire to try it, but you're making me curious now as I have a Wii with all the toys and add ons that no one touches anymore.
Well there isn't many roms yet. I did try saurom with the wiimote and it wouldn't fully sync. The remote was found but kept blinking and just shut off. Is there a usb host on the g note? Does the female adapter work. Cause i have seen the gs2 with that working on stock ROM and this phone isn't far from that. It would be awesome to use the xbox wireless receiver.

Have you tried Bluez IME?
I had wonderful luck with that, but then again I was running CM7. It becomes a keyboard input, and the android thinks you have a bluetooth keyboard.
Give that a shot.
I no longer have a wii to try it out on :/
Im using sixaxis to connect to a ps3 controller with bluetooth.
Running stock rooted.
Edit-to connect the ps3 controller you need the sixaxis app and you need to go to their website and get software for your windows pc(you will also need ps3 controller drivers), then connect the controller to your pc and use the software to edit the mac address to our phones bluetooth, the sixaxis app will show what your mac is.
They may have the same software for linux or macs, I do not remember.

Is it wireless? That'd be pretty funky to have to hook your ps3 controller into a pc in order to play on your phone.
I suggest a 6ft. Mini-USB cable attached to your laptop pc with a USB extension cable and placed on your favorite coffee table or flat surface. Add to that the HDMI cable for the note, and you have a pretty cool setup. Would it be practical? No. But would you earn major geek cred points?
You betcha.
Wait this is only to set it up at first right? After that i can use the ps3 controller at will? Without the pc.

On the atrix I could use the Wiimote perfectly fine. Unfortunately I believe it's a problem with newer galaxy s phones. I tried almost every app but no go so far.

Ok so the ps3 controller works flawlessly.wiimote won't work with touch wiz devices on stock ROM. Bluez ime don't work as far as i know unless i just don't have a supported controller. I couldn't get it to sync anything but for the ps3 remote just download sixaxis from the play store and the sixaxis pair tool from dancing pixels website on pc and connect the controller through usb cable, change the Bluetooth mac address on the controller and it will sync right up. This works for all games and emulators with on screen touch pads. I can now play all n64 snes nes games with a ps3 controller and gta3 sonic cd reckless racing all work amazing. Its the most useful controller app I've seen yet. Best part combine this with mhl hdmi out and you have a portable console in your pocket. Still haven't figured out multi player though.

most usb controllers should work as long as USB HID drivers work correctly. the issue would be button assigning. now that you've mentioned this ill give it a try with my old gamepad.

I am currently planning to purchase a lapdock for my atrix this Aug 7 when I will hopefully get enough birthday money for this (just can't spend outside of budget right now). I am trying to find out whether it is possible to use an usb based controller for emulators. The reason why I want the USB based one is to save on cost and be able to use the same controller on my bluetooth-less laptop for the PS2 emulations.
to clarify, I do NOT have any usb controller right now so I am looking for two things,
Do usb controller works with lapdock?
if so, which controller comes recommended?
Bonus point if the controller is tiny and have all of the controls that a playstation controller have.
P.S.
If this is just impossible, I'll just go with the bluetooth Nyko Playpad,

PS2 Emulation? On an Atrix with lapdock?
---
Deafcyclist said:
no, PS2 emulation on my Toshiba Laptop. PS1 emulation on my atrix/lapdock. This is why I want a controller that I can switch between the two anytime I need to. Unfortunately, my toshiba laptop do not have bluetooth :crying:
If PS2 emulation on an atrix ever come to pass, I would love it! but I honestly doubt it. In the meantime, I want to be able to play basically everything from Playstation 1 and earlier games.

Wow, this is kind of eerie, and lucky for you at the same time. I just recently decided to buy a PS3 controller for me to use for FPSE on my Atrix using Sixaxis Controller app. It works perfectly, and it's connected using bluetooth. I use the PS3 controller even when my Atrix is mounted on my Lapdock, still using Sixaxis Controller. So, to answer your question, Get a PS3 controller, 'cause it'll work on your Atrix while using Lapdock. As a bonus, you can charge the PS3 controller via USB on the lapdock (which is what I do.) The best part is, it also works perfectly on a Windows PC using the DS3 tool. I use the same PS3 controller to play PS2 games on my PC. I can even help you out in setting it up if you go through with it. Hope this helps. And sorry if what I said is a little confusing. I just got excited 'cause I was wondering the same thing as you, just a few weeks back.

my logitech gamepad did not work, no sign of it on android, but i only tested it with hd dock and neutrino rom. im not on blur for now but maybe on the weekend ill test it with blur.
for those who have ps3 controller, is it OEM or third party? i was thinking of getting one but i have a wii and got classic pro which works great on n64oid, much better joystick sensitivity than wii64 with gamecube controller.

The PS3 controller connects to your phone via bluetooth. It's more convenient in my opinion, compared to hooking it up to your lapdock's USB port. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but i think it's a better solution. Your thoughts?

For the PS3 controller, it has to be a Genuine Sony Dualshock 3 or Sixaxis. Otherwise, you'll have a problem connecting it to Sixaxis controller, the app used to pair the controller to your phone. I haven't tried using a Wii controller, or any other controller for that matter. I decided to try the PS3 controller, and it works excellently for me.
I know the wiimote works just fine, i even have the gamepad connected with it, and use it for my snes games and whatnot. look up Wii Controller IME by Ryan Frawley in the store. =]

@abetsi
that was my concern all along, not being compatible with sixaxis. ill just wait until i really want one. not very much of a cellphone gamer. i have dslite and 3ds.
@Deafcyclist
it is possible ics has even more drivers, so i might test it later. as i recall to pair ps3 controller with sixaxis a PC is required, its through usb. i suppose it can be used like you want it.
edit: testing new jellybean alpha and my logitech gamepad works, both joystick and dpad. i have not tested any game yet but its good news native usb gamepad support.

I am okay with connecting to the atrix/lapdock with bluetooth, my main concern is whether I can connect a PS3 controller directly to my TOSHIBA LAPTOP (not the lapdock) via usb. I know that a PS3 controller have a mini-USB port for charging, but I'm not sure if this can be used to get the PS3 to connect via USB. If this is the case, then this controller may be perfect for me in pretty much every way except for it's size (I wanted some really tiny controller, heh)
el_venga, I wonder if CM9 have better USB support in general? I'm using Jokersax's CM9.

I'm pretty sure it'll connect to your laptop. I'm using mine on my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 via USB to play PS2 games and such. As long as you have the correct programs to run it, I'm confident that it'll work.
