[Q] Swype SGS3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone please explain to me if Swype is coming out for the SGS3. I know Samsung has built in most of Swypes settings into the standard Samsung keyboard setting, but there are quite a few changes that are really not as good as using this keyboard on the SGS2. For example, a long hold of backspace would delete the last word - now it is a time oriented press. If you type a word then tap on it after typing to change it to one of the other suggested words, the suggested words no longer appear.
Any ideas?

Download any of those.

The samsung keyboard on the SGS3 has an option to allow swipe!
It has swype built in.

I know it is inbuilt but the inbuilt is nowhere near as good as the Swype that was on my SGS2, hence the questions.
Will try a theme, thanks!

Thank you for the link, but all of those don't seem to display properly on the SGS3 - they seem to only take up half the allocated space for a keyboard? Any alternatives?

Try to find swype for Galaxy Note. I am not allowed to post here but it shouldn't be a problem.
Yes the inbuild its not even close to swype.

Swype

Just started using Swype. The standard keyboard is OK, and way more responsive than my old HTC Touch HD. But man Swype is good. Can type messages and emails much faster than I normally can manage.
Just thought I'd mention it in case nobody has seen/heard of it.
Can find out more here - http://www.swype.com

It really is the dogs cogs isn't it! I started off using SlideIT before they released Swype Beta.. didn't like swype at first.. but now I know how to use it.. I couldn't live without it!.. I was using it for ages before I realised that you can swype from the swype key to the "sym" key to bring up the direction and text editing keys...
Didn't know that about the text editing and direction keys. Cheers!

1GHz CPU, Android, capacitive screen vs 528MHz, WinMo6 and a resistive screen - no contest
Swype's pretty awesome but I personally settled on Ultra Keyboard because I was used to the half-qwerty from my Touch HD.
Ultra Keyboard combines the two as well as giving you control over the size of the keys and a whole load of other options.
Speaking of awesome and intuitive keyboards, does anyone know what happenned with Blind Type? I remember hearing something about google buying it up (i THINK i remember that, anyway) and had pressumed that maybe it would be incorporated into a future model of Android, probably 2.3. Now I'm running on 2.3 and have heard nothing of Blind Type since then, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea?
Definitely the best keyboard i've tried so far is SwiftKey, even better and Swype (i have them both).
Another vote here for swiftkey, the predictive text (once it's trawled through your old texts and emails) is nothing short of amazing.
Although the way it can actually predict the next word after you finish the current one is a little scary/depressing. Am i really *that* predictable?
I had installed swype on my xperia arc and tried it out for sometime. I was not happy or rather felt that the original default kb was better. I uninstalled swype. There was a different keyboard then instead of the original gingerbread one. I had to then do a factory reset to get back the original kb

i never got used to swype i prefer standard Gingerbread keyboard. was upset it wasn't included with the arc, but you can find the apk here on xda
Or you can just download the Gingerbread keyboard from the market for free.
i bought swiftkey and tried it for a week but sadly it did not seem to predict very well for me.. swype is much faster for me, even if i'm just typing not swyping. i'm always hitting the wrong keys with swiftkey.
I use SlideIT now for a long time, it is personal of course, but for me its perfect.

Agree
I am on the latest beta for Swype and have to agree its pretty awesome! +1
Nice, thx!
I use ultra keyboard. Unfortunately it mixes up multitouch keystrokes (registers on key release). FlexT9 is also nice, and it does correct multitouch recognition plus excellent speech recognition (Dragon dictate)
But ultra has nicer option buttons right there in the prediction area, with inline translation, copy paste etc, and better correction after mistakes. Biggest gripe is the incomplete dictionary, no auto training/learning on email sms, bad capital recognition (problem in German mainly). Nevertheless, overall best keyboard so far that I came across.
SlideIT cannot do multitouch at all, bummer, otherwise very good as well.
My friend introduced me to the Swype but I was quite content with the existing ones. May try it later.
definitely recommend swype! ben using it since my X1i
Swyped from my LT15i-Arc
I'm looking for SWYPE for Xperia neo. Can anyone help please?

@ all
I would definitely recommend Swype to everyone. It's a no brainer! Why type when you can Swype?
And here are 7 Swype keyboard tips for better Swyping. It's definitely going to make your swyping experience better.
My only gripe with it is that I don't know how to insert a new line. All I see is a smiley button instead of the enter button.
EDIT: The smiley button is only there in the default messaging app. In other programs, it shows the enter key.

[Q] Phone dialer keypad with density set at 220

Sorry, I am a newbie. I am using Power Rom Evergreen with density set at 220. The default density set for this rom was too small for me. I like everything except my phone keypad is not lining up right and goes off screen. Does any body know how fix this problem? I've search around and haven't found any topic about this yet for dell 5. I must be doing something wrong. Please help .
PS Density at 220 is what I can afford right now. Anything lower than that is too small for me.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I keep my density at the default so I've not encountered this myself, but you need to change your dialer. Floating around the forums should be a modified version of the dialer that can handle the various resolutions. At worst, said dialer should be in one of the ROMs on the forum.
One thing to keep in mind regarding the density however. You may find that a lot of apps in the Market will either be marked incompatible with your device, or completely missing from the Market because of the density change.
You're right on the money with the compatibility issue with market apps that I was facing. I've gone down to 180 on the lcd setting. The main reason I wanted to go to higher lcd screen was to make typing keyboard(I am using ICS keyboard) bigger, because I use my thumbs to type mostly. Gingerbread has very small default keyboard as compared to the original Dell Froyo keyboard and this frustrates me a lot when typing. However, I've found a keyboard on the market that's bigger(Ultra Keyboard) and easier for me to type. The only problem is that it has some bug problem. There are quite a few complaints about that keyboard at the moment due to the new software update.
The phone dialer keypad, on the other hand, is way to big and is the same for both Gingerbread and Froyo version(size wise). I will just have to search around for the modified dialer version. Anybody knows where it is please let me know. Ths.
Why are you not using the Swype keyboard that Dell includes? The keys are larger than the Gingerbread default.
Wow, didn't know that existed either. The rom I flashed didn't have it as default. Just downloaded touchpal keyboard after typing " swype keyboard" in market search. This one is a freebie and works fine for me. I didn't many searches before using "keyboard" as a key search, but it didn't come up. Can't be any more happy. thy
Swype is never set as default on custom ROMs, and some ROMs may not include the Dell version at all since a more current version is available at the Swype website. However, as I'm sure you guessed, a long press on a text area such as the quick reply box on the site here will call up the available keyboards. From there you can use the keyboard you want.
Thanks for the info!

Auto correct keyboard is available

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110841
I just downloaded flashed and booted.... I'm on clean 4.5
Am I just late to the party and everybody already has this....my speed on the keyboard is at least twice as fast with autocorrect.
Seriously people....DO THIS MOD!
Yeah, you are like 2 months behind
Great workaround!
The problem I've run into this mod is that adding autocorrect to the stock Samsung keyboard doesn't allow you to add words to the dictionary. If the keyboard decides to autocorrect something, that's pretty much it. Backspacing won't revert to your original spelling.
For example, it won't let you type iPhone. It autocorrects it to "I Phone" and won't let you do anything else.
Fortunately I found this awesome mod. It allows you to use whatever keyboard you want for typing. But also allows you to set up which keyboard to use when the sPen is detected.
I've set up JB AOSP keyboard as my default. But when I remove my sPen, the stock Samsung keyboard automatically pops up in handwriting mode.
Enjoy!

Keyboard for SGS4, is it worthy?

I love that the "swype" feature is now incorporated, because it honestly just saves me so much time. However, compared to one of the customs ones I had last year, it's - sad to say - garbage.
On the one I used before, and I believe even the swype app, there were a few differences that made it great for me. The three major drawbacks I find are (1) when I use a browser and do "swype", the words do not automatically get spaced, even though they will in a text or whatnot. (2) If I push backspace, because the wrong word has been chosen, I have to backspace letter-by-letter instead of just deleting the whole word in one go. (3) The worst is that several words that my older keyboard would guess right without issue will just not come up on this keyboard. At one point I got a word, had to delete it, re-needed that word, and it would no longer come up... On top of that, I expect certain words like "dalvik" to be picked up on.
Anyways, is it just me, or is anyone else noticing this?
I can also upload the keyboard I was using, it's was based on 4.2 and can be flashed. Very seldom will younotice anything buggy, and even if so, it is nothing that impedes on your typing or from the keyboard functioning as it should.
I'm using Swype+Dragon and I admit that this keyboard isn't that great the space button is so small and they're trying to pack everything into a small amount of space but it's not as bad either. I've been using jelly bean keyboard for quite some time and love it. I used other keyboards but nothing compares to the jelly bean keyboard just need to have more themes for it. The only reason I'm using Swype is because the keyboard theme goes with the rest of the theme for my phone.

You can try SwiftKey. I've used it on my S3 and now on my S4. It has Swype features they call "Flow" Try it out, you might like it.
I'll take a look for the SwiftKey. I did find a keyboard that has bigger buttons if anyone is interested in trying that.

Swipeselection alternative for android?? GERMAN Keyboard!!!

Hey,
does someone knows an alternative to swipeselection for android and with german keyboard layout???
also for thisr how dont know, swipeselection is a cydia tweak for ios devives, it allows to move the cursor over swiping with one finger over the keyboard, if u swipe right the cursor goes right if left tgen left.
this tweak is good when you misstype and u dont want to tip the position where u want the cursor should be!!
ive loaded swipeselection from playsrore but i dont like it, and ive tried the app "tyype" but its also rubbish and in english, last but not least ive tried flat keyboard and its the best, but sadly it has no german layout
do you know any other swipe selection keyboards??
Swype
SwiftKey
Fleksy
TouchPal
Stock AOSP keyboard
All of those have swipe functionality and support German. I don't use German though, so can't say how well they work. My personal preference in English anyway is SwiftKey.
Ya
All the above work well
I use TouchPal though
Press thanks :good: if I've helped :highfive:

Port xperia z1s keyboard
Gesendet von meinem Xperia SP
Just found out about this awesome iOS Cydia tweak. This sounds amazing. Is there really no Android equivalent of this?
That is disappointing.
I found some:
SwipeSelection Keyboard
This one looked interesting at first, but then I discovered that its layout was poor for quick typing.
tyype
This one a little bit different, it has a bottom bar for swiping but to select text rather than moving the cursor. The bar can be used to prevent accidentally pressing the capacitive button for some devices, not so useful for me.
Quick Keyboard Việt also supports swipe selection, it's good
The popular "Multiling Keyboard" handles this a bit differently, it employs an anternative way which use vol buttons for moving back and forth. The plus is supporting all languages.
I made an account just so I could post this info for anybody interested. On my Galaxy S5, you can go into the settings for the default Samsung keyboard, and change the swipe settings from "Swiftkey Flow" (swype-style swiping) to "Cursor Control" which allows you to swipe across the keyboard to control the cursor like in the swipe selection tweak. As far as I can tell, the only functionality is to move the cursor, you can't select text like in the iOS tweak. It's not as smooth, but it at least allows you to still maintain all the functionality of the default keyboard while adding an ability to move the cursor.
This feature may only be available on the Galaxy S5, I'm not sure if it's available on the SwiftKey keyboard (which the samsung keyboard is based on).
This was helpful. Thanks. The original swipeselection is quit better than the iphone version.!
