[Q] SGS2 NOT Reading any MSDHC Card ! Help plz Asap ! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got a Big issue with my SGS2.My sgs2 is NOT reading any micro sd hc card .Whichever card i put in ,it is showing as a blank card! (sometimes even as "damaged car") It is also not mounting any card nor formatting any card! The same card showing as a blank or damaged on my sgs2 is being read perfectly in my other phones. Also formatting the card in the p.c does not help, still showing as "blank card".Even on connecting the sgs2 to the p.c as mass storage, the external msd card is not shown. I'm quite sure that it is a problem with the hardware,i.e the micro sd slot in the phone which is giving errors.
*There was once a problem of a previous msdhc card being broken into two pieces & stuck inside the msdhc slot of this phone which had 2 be brought out with some force at the samsung service centre & the engineers said there might be some problems regarding msdhc card in future with the phone as the micro contacts/channels took a bit of ruffle !
I now doubt the problem has arisen from there..just my very very bad luck ! So my Main question here is...can the external microsd SLOT of sgs2 be repaired/fixed or do i have to replace the entire inner pcb(very costly) ???. I'm too disappointed ! Previously also, sometimes the sgs2 would freeze out of no reason & i had to reboot & then also i got a notification of blank card in the sgs2, but the issue got resolved upon reinserting it back in the memory slot after multiple attempts,...but this time, nothing is working for making the card/& its contents being read by the phone.PLZ plz help!
My sgs2 is under warranty! & microsd card is a New Samsung 16gb class6 msdhc card.My Rom is stock GB 2.3.3 Samsung release for India, which was pre installed on purchase of the sgs2! Other than this ,there r no problem in the phone! Would this issue be covered under warranty? Plz reply & help asap pals!

So many views....no reply....i honestly thought u ppl can help or guide me :\

just returned from the Samsung Service centre!....well my Bad luck, there is indeed a problem with the memory card slot at the hardware level as they (samsung service engineers) have confirmed after opening the back cover..the memory card slot has broken(the tracks/channels have taken damage) and r not recognising any MSDHC card for the matter(the samsung guys tried their card themselves, but it made no difference, as all the cards are shown as "Blank card" !) . My Bad : (
Now at this point they r saying that the memory slot needs to be changed for this problem to be solved, either by just singly replacing "alone" the SD memory card slot which is integrated within the pcb , ......... or replacing the "entire" pcb of the SGS2 which along with this 'damaged' memory slot also houses the dual core processor, mali-400 gpu ,camera, etc etc of the phone which are in perfectly Great condition!.
So,Long story short,...they have given me two choices :
1) Replacing just the external SD Memory Slot of my Sgs2 within warranty (samsung service insists on doing this, & for them it would be a perfect job,not to worry)
2) Replacing the entire expensive PCB of my SGS2 altogether (where 99% parts r in perfect condition) but which would be above all chargeable!
As of Now, they(Samsung) don't have the replaceable external SD Memory slot for the sgs2 in stock,so they have ordered the same for me & have told to come back by this weekend when the job would be probably done !
Now,pals, & mobile tech experts here who really knows & may have similar experience, i very much want your honest advice in this ,as to what i should be doing here? which choice as i pointed above would best & Pragmatically serve my purpose without putting my otherwise perfectly performing SGS2 to any untoward risk & damage. If u ppls were in my place,Would you be assured enough to put trust on a Samsung Service Engineer((whom the samsung service centre calls their best & proficient enough to do the job)) for doing a pcb level job on one of your most expensive & loved device? Is it a much risky job or can they properly handle it,(take samsung's word of a good replacement job at their face value)..do they usually have the expertise in doing such a job, particularly for a complicated device like SGS2? or is it that ...Replacing the pcb of the sg2 the only way out? What do you guys think?
So,Please Help to guide me with your most valuable inputs Asap,...as i honestly need them now!!! I would be much grateful to all those who reply !
Thanks

well i think u have left with no choice but to trust the samsung engineers and get ur external sdcard slot replaced since its still under warranty
even if something goes wrong while doing the same they have 2 give u fully functional phone and hence they might replace the PCB board itself
so go ahead and get it serviced for the same ASAP ma8

my rough guess is that might be many problems:
- broken SD card slot
- broken SD card (in that case rather not possible)
- badly managed flash to XDA (which might be the reason so's selling it over eBay)
- many other things
to eliminate most items listed above you might consider:
- trying few other SD cards
- formatting them as FAT16 elsewhere prior to putting into SD slot of XDA
- if a/m do not any good .... try flashing the unit again with newer ROM available from http://www.yorch.net/
- if that does not help .... consider checking whether SD card slot is not broken (which I do not know how) - and then possibly return to the seller from eBay
hope that helps - regards - monika

Hello!
Since the last weekend I have a MDA too...
Speaking in the terms of xda-developers it is quite virgin...
But I have the same problem:
I just tried to use a sd (128MB) and a mm (256MB) card.
The sd card makes my device reseting all the time and the other tells me about a not known device... I have to enter a name.
But it won't recognize the chips...
Why? Could it be, that they are formatted by a pocket pc with WM2003? Mine is still using the original 2002.
Thanx for help, because I want to use the cardslot and I have to buy a card, so I want to be sure which or if it is a defect of the slot to let it be repaired...
Greetz,
Marcel
my sdcard would not behave the sdcard reader refused to format it
then i used
http://www.softwinter.com/storagetools.html

I fully agree with the above comment that softwinter soft would do the job, although I used to have problems with my previous Lexar SD card ... softwiner soft tested the card and everything seemed to be fine although it was not ... strange :?

Will the 3125 read a 2gb Microsd card?

just want to be sure it supports 2gb cards before i buy one
yes it supports up to 2GB
In case you're wondering what brands are known to work good in 3125 - I have a SanDisk 2GB in mine that works fine...
Just bought a couple more the other day from a vendor on Amazon.com - 2GB seem to be pretty cheap now. I went for the SanDisk packages that include a SD and mini-SD adapter with each micro-SD card - hardly any more expensive than getting just the micro by itself (and keeps your options open in the future)...
(no, I don't work for SanDisk...

I recently started having problems with my 2g sandisk microSD. The phone sometimes can't see portions of the card. I have to reboot for the phone to correctly see 'all' the card. Anyone else experience this?

Hi sofenee ,i face the same thing like u ,
do u solve that ?
any ideas ?
i face that with 1 gb and 2 gb and 256 micro Sd cards . i donot know what is the problem ..
please help us guys ..
I had issues in the past where the contact between the phone and card seemed to be a bit flaky. I have since put a small folded piece of paper (just a couple of layers thick) between the SIM card and the SD card to push it down in order to get a better connection. I have not had any problems since.
Hi Mag ,
Thank you So much for your useful post ,
ur solution is the Best , and it is a successful way to resolve that issue ,
i had created a topic here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420140
and i knew that ur soultion is the Best .
anyway , i will return my device back to the company , it is still under warrenty ;p
My regards,

I have had that happen before, I think the SD card driver is crashing, once you reboot the phone it seems to work fine. This happened on an official cingular ROM. Never had a problem with Erofichs' ROMS

Just try adding a layer of tape (I used regular, transparent scotch tape) on top of the microSD card and trim it
Resolved the issue for me

[Q] No touch for NT

Broke my NT screen & replaced but now touchscreen capability doesn't work. I have been trying to return to stock & go from there but am unable to get that done w/o touch.
I am assuming I didn't get a defective screen but cannot be sure.
Anybody have any suggestions for me?
Thank you!
MIGHT<--------- work
sd1 boot--->clock works mod recovery---------------
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446987&highlight=cwm
boot into it(remove) and then insert
sd2 which, contains stock zip,or any other rom
flash that sucker
and hope it works
METHOD 2 (might be easier, but results in root and other apps)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488035&highlight=cwm
(methods above uses no screen, only side buttons and the n)
please reply because i am interested to see if this works
I can't boot to an sd card. Tried Method 2 & was not able to boot to the card. Flashed the image to the card, put it in the Nook, powered down 8xs & get the blue menu but then can't get the zip image to work.
Sorry, I am a noob in may respects & I'm really foundering here. In method 1 I don't even know how to make a new MSDOS partition table and add a 50 MB FAT32 partition as the first primary partition.
I fear I am up the proverbial creek!
interesting...
method one 50 mb http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
why can you not boot from SD
and
by blue menu do you mean the clock works mod
and what do you mean by 'can't get the zip image to work.' what is happeneing
concern:
well you said that it was a hardware screen damage
so TECHNICALLY the software should work as created since that was 'untouched'
thinking...
Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you; I’ve had company & no time to address this again.
I will try & explain the steps I have taken, although, as I have explained my tech speak is limited at best.
I am using a 2gb sd card (believe it or not I snapped my 32gb card in half while replacing the screen)
I just now tried to use method 1. I thought I followed the instructions exactly found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
but now my computer doesn't detect the sd card at all, nothing when I plug & unplug the card.
Previously when I said 'get the blue menu' yes, I mean clock works mod.
I think somehow during the use of Partition Wizard 7 the card reader on my comp was fried. I bought a brand new 16gb card; when inserted in the adapter, then into the onboard reader, PW7 shows both cards as 'bad disk'
woah woah woah...well first i was 'gone' for a couple of days due to freshman finals. (dont be like...well this young foo aint going to help...cuz i try to)
second--> the chip could not have gotten fried...check if it works with the native software (windows explorer) and with other SD cards
and how is it one snaps the 32gb sd. like you forgot it inside the device...or while taking it out it 'broke'
back to my third post---> and what do you mean by 'can't get the zip image to work.' what is happening
like is it an md5 sum error or...
obviously this is a very technically problematic because by now...other devs would be helping...
Finally figured out sd card reader on my comp quit working - card's okay in different comp. Snapped the 32gb card when removing the back of the NT. (My bad-forgot it was in the tablet & removing back with card in snaps the card in 2)
Finally got the NT returned to stock (Kudos to Ray Waldo.com)
Now I have working stock NT but still no touch capabilities. My best guess is that the touch digitizer of the screen is bad & since warranty was for 30 days seller won't exchange. (It has been 40 days) Seller is not appreciative of the fact that I have been trying to get this thing working & I too was on vacation.
So unless someone has another idea of what might be wrong, I'm up a creep.
I really appreciate your efforts & the help I have received.
From my reading the touch part is not sold with the LCD display. I assume you purchase the digitizing touch part too.
"7" Nook TABLET IPS LCD Screen Display Repair Replacement. This item is the exactly inner IPS LCD screen dispaly (without Touch screen digitizer glass) for Nook TABLET , easy to change, plug into the board, ....."
Most manufactures have internal diagnostics, can you somehow run these? Who ever your vendor was they should be able to get you the manufactures information. If nothing else you may be able to send it to them for testing.
I did take two laptops apart to combine them into one working one, lots of thin flat cables that went directly into connectors. I did observe that some held well, some did not insert fully and some did not stay in very well. Could you problem be a loose cable?

Dragontrail phone killed my microSD

Twice!
My Xperia Active twice killed my micro SD card.
Is there any way to prevent that?
The card was inserted and my phone droped on the floor from about 1.5 m.
Memory card died, so I bought a new one.
No the same thing happend!
Not even a scratch on the phone but the card is dead!
Maybe a some shortciruit due to shock. Take it to shop
"Don't judge a book by it's cover" - Unknown
"A man who never did a mistake never tried anything new" - A.Einstein
Mem card had 36 month warranty, but I lost the bill.
Gonna ask the shop if i can get a new recepie, cuz I bought it over webshop.
How do you know, that it is dead?
Maybe just moved a bit, causing incorrect connection.
Or try formatting the card.
I know it's dead because card reader can't recognize it, like I didn't insert anything...
of course, now I lost all my app data and everything related to some apps!
kindda hate Xperia Active for this
I think it depends on the sd card (and what you do with it), some just perform badly in the phone. I had a new sammy sd class 10 card (which i payed a third of some class 6 cards) and the moment i started using link2sd partition, and especially swap partition bam! from one moment to another it was burned (btw i also have an active) after barely a month of life
maybe your device is faulty. dropped mine before as well on concrete flooring, just a dent on the metal rim
1. Not the phone killed your MicroSD.
2. You should definetely buy a water-dust-shock-etc. proof MicroSD, because these memory cards are quite sensitive.
I think the same way. Gotta get one of these cuz looks like that ordinary ones can't handle everything that Active can, specialy the shocks.

[Q] Exchanging internal SD?

Hi all,
My galaxy S2 recently died due to minor water damage. Now I ordered a S4, but I would like to know whether it's possible to recover photos from the internal SD card. To be clear: the phone doesn't power on anymore at all. My girlfriend also has a Galaxy S2, and I was thinking of exchanging some phone parts to access the broken one's internal memory. Some things I've been thinking of:
1. Switch mainboards. This would only be useful if the internal SD card is not soldered to the mainboard. Could someone tell me whether this is the case?
2. I read on a website the following:
As the chips are directly soldered to the smartphone’s mainboard and can be made to specially interface with the SoC used, but sometimes companies don’t solder user-accessible internal storage to the mainboard, instead putting a micro-SD card in a hidden slot. Examples are phones like Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Desire HD.
Click to collapse
This implies that I could simply take out this internal SD card and switch it with the other phone. Is anyone familiar with this?
My girlfriends phone has to remain working in the end, mine is broken already and I don't care whether it breaks even more..
Thanks in advance!
Samsungs are soldered, it's an actual chip. And just don't go there. The possibility that you'll completely stuff it up beyond repair is high unless you do this sort of thing for a living (and you'd have to source the chip from a 2nd hand board anyway, might as well do the easy thing & replace the board).
You've got it the wrong way around re: motherboard. This is exactly what service centres replace when n00bs come in & say 'I went to sleep & my phone didn't wake up (I was trying to flash a custom rom to my phone but flashed a rom for the I9000 by mistake).
Either replace the motherboard yourself (source a 2nd hand one from a 'donor' or broken phone online somewhere), or find the board & pay a local mobile repair shop to do it. That's should fix it assuming nothing else is water damaged, which you're only going to know if you either take it to someone who can diagnose, or you swap the motherboard out.
Or you can throw it in the bin.
what happened? were you able to recover the photos and contacts? I have a similar situation, shall I try replacing the motherboard?
