[Q] Ad-Hoc Laptop to Xperia S - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hellooo
I have laptop connected to modem.
and i want to connect my xperia s to wifi ad-hoc
but my xperiaS cant detect adhoc network.
ive search google and xda, found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106130
does it works for our xperia s?
or maybe other script you go?
thanks.

anyone? i really need this

It will not work.

Use connectify, it'll work!

Use wifi file explorer if you want to share documents to pc or vice versa over wifi.

I know that you need to replace the wpa_supplicant file in /system/bin with antoher one where ad-hoc networks are enabled. I did this with the Samsung Galaxy S Advance from my wife, and it worked. However, this wpa_supplicant file appearts to be specific for the phone and/or android version, because the same wpa_supplicant file will not work on my xperia s. I have also tried other files that I found on the internet, but none of them worked.
Does someone have a correct file that does work with our xperia s?

sharing laptop internet with x10

hi all
straight to the point
is there anyway that i can share my PC or laptop internet connection with my x10??
i dont wanna use my x10 internet since its very limited
thnx
You haven't told us much about how your PC/laptop connects to the Internet...
Via wireless? - > Connect the x10 to your wireless network
Via ethernet - > You might be stuffed
Via USB 3G dongle-thing -> Possible to connect a wi-fi access point to an ethernet port (with ICS enabled) and connect to that... or perhaps get another USB device designed to share that connection... I know they exist, there used to be something like that so Nintendo DS could share a connection from a PC.
But it's not really clear unless you tell us how your PC/laptop connect to the Internet.
I'd be careful too as I am on my wi-fi network but it frequently drops back to 3G. I'm on unlimited data (O2 UK) so it's not really a problem for me, but if I wasn't aI'd be caning that data usage...
the PC uses a DSL internet line , the laptop too
i dont have wireless internet
my DSL is through the phone line , and i have a DSL modem
my modem conncted to the pc , through usb port
and the phone line is connected to that DSL modem
i dont have any wireless router and ethernet router
i heard about thethering .. but i understand its to use the phone internet connection on the laptop or pc ,
but i wanna do the exact opposite , use my PC's connection on my x10i
thanks
Create a adhoc wireless connection on your laptop preferebly without any security then connect your x10 with the same connection
You will have to do the settings manually
Hope this helps.

our x10 doesn't have the capability to connect to an ad-hoc connection, at least i haven't been able to detect any. i was able to set up wifi tether on my friends phone, and the x10 was unable to detect it. Same problem when i set up my laptop for an ad-hoc connection, cannot be detected by the x10
has ur pc / notebook got wifi?
if so, u may try this:
http://connectify.me/
it helped me when i was travelling abroad

Its true. I tried Xperia X10 with ad hoc network and it is not discovering the network. I am now unable to have wifi network for my xperia. I have belkin wifi usb adapter but I came to know that it is not compatible with connectify. My old wifi router is dead, I m struck with edge speed on my xperia.
Is there any way to use connectify with belkin wifi usb adapter? Or are there any other software that supports belkin to make wifi hotspot.
x10 cant detect ad-hoc network, so its useless to create one
and i cant use http: // connectify .me/ since im running both my laptop and pc on xp pro
no other solutions ??

i cant upload it,because you should edit this file Considering your ad-hoc connection name and it needs some setting to be activated!!!
i try to translate it if i can!!
here you are:
!) well at first you need to create an ad-hoc(any name you can use for it, my ad-hoc name is xperia)
2) then sharing your internet on it!!
3) trun on your x10s wifi.
4) create a network on your x10 with the same name!!!(add Wi-Fi network)
5) turn off x10s wifi
6) go to data/misc/wif/
after you open wpa_supplicant.conf
you should see this text:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/
wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
network={
ssid="xperia"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
change it like this:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/
wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="xperia"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
}
dont forget the backup!!
and-roid.ir
i tried it , it didnt work , it just messed up my wifi on the x10
and i couldnt scan or use the wifi on my phone ..
so i had to put back the back up file
but i found something else
there is a small software which u can install on ur laptop or pc
called BZEEK
which will work , and will share the PC's wifi

wi-fi ad-hock solution

I managed to solve the "wi-fi not showing ad hock networks issue" on ace os 2.2.1.
here are step by step:
1. phone must be rooted
2. use File expert app (i had problems with root explorer mounting rw)
3. assign read write permissions to /system folder (it's under options-more-mount in file expert)
4. copy wpa_supplicant (hacked version 231kb size) to /system/bin folder. it attached
5. restart phone
now the Ace will show ad-hock networks including one generated by laptops.
all you have to do is to set laptop hotspot using conectify or windows wi-fi.
you can google that.
credit goes to blackplatypus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
At what problem do you refer? What is this issue?
If u use connectify then what is the point of using wpa supplicant..connectify already turns your laptop into a wifi hotspot detectable by android I think

wheres the file bro?
gonna try it..
latest connectify which supports the vista but it is only works ad-hoc so i need this..
i got vista OS in my laptop..

ad hoc networks are not detected by default when you scan wifi networks. This seeks to enable the device to see ad hoc networks.
I haven't tried this one yet, so can't tell if its working or not.
Edit: No links to files was posted. XD
file is in my first post.
thanks gonna try it now..^^
btw..is it rw-r-r?
or just rw-----?
btw..i had seen at my system/bin that the default wpa_supplicant has permission of rwxr-xr-x..
so do i have to set that hacked wpa_supplicant by that permission?
gonna try it after you answer..downloading connectify..hehe

it's of no importance. you need to set system od bin directory to be rw to swap files. it's read only by default.
i have managed to connect to my laptop only to open network (no encryption) using CONECTIFY, if it's protected by wep it won't obtain ip address. looking for solution. any help would be appreciated.

Ad-hoc,wpa_suplicant,Ericsson live walkman(wt19i),gingerbread 2.3.4

Hi,
Problem: connect my phone android to ad-hoc laptop created.
My english is not god, sow, directly i try:

=>i used connectify, but my laptop sony vaio VGN-AW21Z not suport hardware ad-hoc :-(
=>Virtual router manager: failed
=>Virtual acess point: failed
I use Rom toolbox to eliminate in system/bin the wpa_suplicant (before desactivate Wifi) and move from SDcard the file wpa i found in this forum or google.
When I turn on Wifi with wpa_suplicant i found, the phone does not detect any networks and automatically turns off 2 ou 3 seconds after.
With wpa_suplicant original, android not detect my Internet ad-hoc created by my laptop, but if i use another software from androidmarket, software detect my internet laptot ad-hoc and wen i try connectd says not suport ad-hoc library. :-(

[Help needed][Android 2.3] Pandigital Nova + Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi Networks

How ad-hoc networks can be enabled this device?
I have tried two ways to enable Ad-Hoc networks on Android device, but no one work.
Replace wpa_supplicant with hacked variant is not work. After enabling Wi-Fi i see bootlogo and "restarted" Android. And this will loop, until i place original wpa_supplicant in /system/bin. I tried six hacked wpa_supplicant binaries.
And editing wpa_supplicant.conf is not work too, i don't know why.
Help me with this, please. I do not want to throw device in the trash, just because of defectiveness Android.

iPhone 3G wifi tether not found..

Hi everybody,
I have an HTC Flyer P512 16GB wifi only, on Android 2.3.4, HTC Sense 1.0, softwarenumber 2.27.1114.32.
Now I want to access internet via my iPhone 3G A1241 16GB, which I Redsn0w jailbroke, and installed PDANet via Cydia.
I'm able to internet from my laptop via the wifi hotspot that I can now create with PDANet.
But for a reason I dont know, I can't seem to find any created wifi hotspots with my Flyer..
How come my laptop can access a wifi hotspot that I created with PDANet on my iPhone, but my Flyer can't?
I used search, but it must be a combination of; too specific & my lack of knowledge in this business ..
I really hope someone can steer me in the right direction!
Thanks in advance
Ok, I did some more research on the matter, I believe I now know I would need to root, SU, before being able to place an wpa_supplicant. Back up original. Turn WiFi off. Use Root Explorer to paste it into system/bin folder. Change the permissions on the file to rwxr-xr-x. Turn wifi back on. And it should show adhoc networks.
How am I doing?
If this is the right order, I still need to find out what root I should use, can anybody tell me that?
It is important to me that all the original buttons function, and I prefer no loss of options..
Appreciate it.
P'z
I now know I mixxed up roms with root in my previous post.
In the meanwhile I have S-off''ed my tablet.
I intended to install CWM along with it, but it displayed that it couldn't be done, and I should do it manually.
I'm now on a search for the specific method of installing CWM manually..if someone feels like jumping to my rescue, would be highly appreciated.
Oke, found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
..but again, i am stuck ..the file the how t refers to (cwm-4.0.1.4-flyer.img) is no longer available at that address..
Have been searching for it on Google, as well as torrent sites..no luck..
Is there anyone who still has this file?
Don't know anything about using an iPhone as a hotspot. But you shouldn't have to root and do all that extra stuff to access a WiFi hotspot.
If using security on the WiFi hotspot, try a different type (WPA, WPA2, WEP). WEP in particular does not play well with many HTC devices (and not very secure anyway).
Thanks for your reply!
That's what my understanding was at first, but I tried several wifi apps next to my standard wifi, and what I can conclude is:
Standard wifi scan (via menu):
-can't detect my created hotspot
-can detect and connect with home wifi
WiFi Analyzer:
-can detect my created hotspot (with an AdHoc label, and when I try to connect it displays "Adhoc is not supported by Android platform yet!")
-can detect and connect with home wifi
WiFi Manager:
-can detect my created hotspot (with an AdHoc label, and when I try to connect it displays "Standard Android does not support connecting to IBSS (AdHoc) type networks")
-can detect and connect with home wifi
I read I would need to replace the wpa_supplicant file, but that can only be done once rooted..
Maybe someone has the following reuested file in his/her possesion?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39399637&postcount=298
..would really help me out!
