DO Samsung items still all work when using SPB shell? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if I were to install SPB shell on Galaxy S3 , would all of the inherent new features still work? Such as Smart Stay, and Videos on top of pages, etc.
Thanks for all responses,

As far as I know SPB Shell is just a launcher, it shouldn't interfere with anything with the TouchWiz framework.

yea you might lose the abilty to use some widgets, but the main features should remain intacked.

It works just fine.

Thanks for replies, seems like all Samsung items should still work , and the launcher is only a type of overlay.

[Q:] Upgrading to Samsung Galaxy S II

I still own a HTC Hero and want to upgrade to a newer Android Phone
So after reading lotsa pages and pages, i came to the conclusion that this is the betetr phone to get.
I had the HTC EVO3D / HTC Sensation / LG Optimus 2X / LG Optimus 3D and Samsung Galaxy S II in mind, i'm not out of it complete, but as far as custom roms and future proof (i know that's a bit odd, cause it's going to fast in smartphoneland) i think the Samsung GSII is well worth the buy, 3D was more of a gimmick i wanted, but it's not really needed
So should i go for the Galaxy II, or should i take the HTC Sensation or LG 2X in consideration?
You've done the reading, you know the answer.... welcome aboard
I moved from a Desire to the Galaxy S2 a few days ago, and am loving it. For me, it was between the Sensation and Galaxy S2, but from all the reviews, the Galaxy S2 seemed to constantly edge it - plus, although I was a fan of the Sense interface on HTC phones, the latest versions felt more heavyweight, especially compared the relatively lightweight TouchWiz interface, which I thought would impact performance in the future.
Either way, they're all great phones, you'll love whatever you do go for, but I feel I made the right decision.
Well it's only 2 posts, but i'll order the Galaxy S II, seems i can't be wrong with it , at least, it's always better then my wife her iPhone 4

Which phone to buy next???

Right then guys, I am going to buy a new phone in the next week in the UK, problem is im stuck for choice. Ive always had HTC (desire, Sensation) as I am a fan of Sense so was convinced to go for the Sensation XL (mainly for the beats headphones).
Im looking between XL and SG Nexus S (as it has the new ICS 4.0). for the last few weeks I have been using an ICS themed sense 3.5 rom and I know the dev is very close on the sensation for the port of 4.0 so I dont know what to do......
Any suggestions?? or would any recommend another phone completely??
Cheers guys
Samsung Galaxy S 3 (HTC Edge & Galaxy Nexus killer )
Samsung Galaxy S II (costs here in Germany only 400€ and the ICS-Update comes truly) - Or you wait for the Galaxy S III
galaxy ace! cheap, good looking, fine performance!
i think the samsung galaxy nexus is a good choice because of the performance(battery too) and the screen. i like the superamoled screen because of the brilliance. the only problem for me is the plastic cover
Yeahh GALAXY S3
Galaxy 3/Next Nexus

[Q] jetstream vs. galaxy tab 10.1 7510

I have a galaxy tab 10.1 but am wondering if theres anyone out there who has tried both the tab and the jetstream. Im seriously thinking of switching because im a med student and the pen does wonders for my bio classes. I have a htc view also that I use the pen for to label anatomy but am curious if I should just get rid of both of these and go to the jetstream. any comments would help.
Thanks in advance!!!

Though I am biased because I love the HTC Sense UI, I can't really give you a good opinion. BUT, my roommate has a galaxy tab and I am not impressed with it. the Jetstream is just much more functional in every way.
Again, my biased opinion.
I have had both and I much prefer the Jetstream over the Galaxy Tab. I don't use the pen very often and there are a lot more accessories for the Galaxy Tab. I find the experience on the Jetstream much more enjoyable to me. I have never been a big fan of Samsung's phones or tablets, they seem very plasticky to me. I much prefer the build of HTC devices and the Sense UI. I also have the HTC Vivid in white and prefer it over the AT&T Galaxy S II for the same reasons. If it was me I would pick this over the Galaxy Tab any day or any other manufacturer over Samsung. Just my opinion though.
I've been through medical school and would definitely go with a device that has a digitizer pen, especially for your first two years. This will allow you to take notes in your own handwriting and keep up with the lectures.

Thanks for all of the responses so far...this link helped a lot too!
looks like I may be switching soon...especially now that my favorite developer, task 650 is over here now!!!
The HTC Jetstream is absolutely wonderful. I am a doctor in India. Used to earlier manage on a desktop and a Symbian phone (ancient not the word). Used the galaxy tab and saw, did not find much of a functionality difference with it compared to the combo of laptop and Nokia X6 with exception of.perhaps portability.with a.larger screen compared to the X6. Hot myself the HTC Jetstream and my entire preparation and study design.have changed and dare I say, I am really really loving it. Always think that had I had this during my Med school, I would have had a totally different study experience. The digital pen does.wonders not only with the notes in my own handwriting (use Quill for that-way better compared to the native notes app) but even the ability to highlight, annotate and stuff with the native PDF viewer plus the availabilty of my favourite ebook reader islilo which works perfectly-all these got the HTC Jetstream to win.hands down over the galaxy tab. Hope this helps.

Jetstream UI is amazing, unit is way more solid. Only real draw back between the 2 is the weight of the HTC.

WHAT?
I love the heaviness. To me, it means it is not plastic dollar store quality. I have an expensive peice of technology. Holding the Gtab in one hand and the Jetstream in the other is like whoa.
I enjoy it being heavy.
I'm looking to get a tablet with a stylus very shortly.
I've noticed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is to be released in June 2012, and has a stylus as well, this will be interesting comparison with Jetstream.
Hurry HTC with Sense 4 for Jetstream !

Use the Note phone and have the Jetstream too.... both very usable and yes the Galaxy 10.1 may be the nail in the Jetstream's coffin imho.

Depends on your application with the stylus. If you wish to annotate and/or highlight stuff, better with the Jetstream/Flyer. Used the stylus of Samsung Galaxy Note and I wasn't impressed with its opton for note taking and annotations. The inbuilt/stock PDF viewer on the Jetstream is way way better. If you want the Sam function on the Note, you need to use eZpdf or something else.I am not saying that is a bad option, but I somehow prefer the stock PDF viewer with Jetstream for annotation and stuff. If however, your main use of the stylus would be only occasional use for signing documents or using it for occasional notes, then you could go in for either. I do not know the specifications of the Note tab. So best suggestion would be to wait for its release, read up some reviews about it before taking the plunge for either of them.
Regarding the Jetstream, only drawback with it which I can pinpoint is that HTC doesn't provide us with timely updates and that may not seem to be the case with Samsung. So if that a priority, then Samsung may be a better bet. Recently helped a friend of mine chose between the Note phone and HTC Flyer. He got the Flyer and has been happy with it compared to the functionality of the stylus and stuff in comparision to the note, if that helps.
Hope you get a device just right for you, but do so only after seeing complete specs and a few review of the Galaxy Note Tab.

One of my hesitation with jetstream is that people complained about the lack of video playback. Has that been fixed. Any problems watching streaming videos, movies?
Also what sense version is Jetstream running ?
Thanks.

I do not have any problem with streaming videos and movies. Watch extensively. I do use a 3rd part app called MX Video player - which allows me to watch movie files on the memory. I do not know of the problem you are speaking about.
It has Sense 3.1 or Sense 1.0 for Tablet (both mean the same as I gather)
I would still suggest you wait, hold on till the detailed specs are out, some reviews are out for the Note tab and then decide.
Thanks,
Kailash.

Has HTC confirmed any Sense upgrade for Jetstream. I know on some other devices they were promised to get 3.5 or 3.6, which is basically 4.0 without some of the 4.0 features?
I would be horrified if there was no upgraded for such an expensive device.

I think you had better see the following threads. We got no idea about the plans for updates etc as HTC is keeping us in the dark. Though it seems it may not happen - but its not yet official. I did warn you of the same in my 1st reply as well. Some speculations and plans are in the threads mentioned below:

I would personally choose the thinkpad if I could do it over again. My professor has one and the technical difference is small but the software is better.

Difference

Hi, I am moving from a Galaxy Note II to the HTC One(H1). Can people explain to me the difference between 4.2.2 Sense and 4.1.2 Touchwiz in terms of benefits? I had multi screen and I liked it on the Note II, so is there something like that for the H1? What's HTC Zoe good for specifically? Can you record your own messages into photos like the S4? What software is different from the HTC Sensation? That was the last time I had a Sense phone. I also used the HTC Evo 4G LTE as a work phone, but only for phone calls. Thanks in advance. I just want to see what big time software I can expect next week.

Try searching for the HTC One user guide at scribd. It should answer most of your questions. I'd post the link but I need at least 10 posts.
Try going to a tmobile store and playing around with it, some don't like blinkfeed, but that's pretty much why I bought it. It is like currents/flipboard and homescreen clock and dock in one.

Is it true that the One is a lot smoother than the S4 because of lag on the S4 despite the processor speed advantage?

Yes it's smoother. I wanted the S4 originally because of the replaceable battery and micro sd expansion and some samsung software add ons but in the end, the lack of lag and the gorgeous and much brighter screen as well as blinkfeed got me to pull the trigger while I was browsing the two phones at the store. For those who don't like blinkfeed, it's as easy as installing a new launcher, I have quite a few installed.

Official Off-Topic lounge for non-device discussions-introduce yourselves

Thought we should all introduce our selves since we're all here for pretty much the same reason and this is of course hacking and customizing our sprint note 3's
My names Cory and I've been on XDA since the release of the original EVO 4g. I've been into installing custom roms and modifying my devices for a while now. I've had the HTC Hero, EVO 4g, EVO 4g shift, EVO 3d, Galaxy epic touch, Galaxy s3, Galaxy s4, Galaxy Note 2 and now Galaxy Note 3. Even gone through the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5. Out of every device the note 3 tops them all.
Please play along and give a description of yourself, your devices and which device is your favorite.
Also wanting the developers to chime in so we can all get a good idea who to thank and what to look for for the amazing roms to come.
