Hello, is there a way to adjust the push frequency of my gmail to my device? I never had a problem with the og evo. With the lte I have to wait up to 15 minutes to receive a new gmail email.

How's 3G around your area? are you always on wifi? are you using the Mail app or the GMail client?
Normally it should pop up within a few min of receiving it on your mailbox, there are instances where I get it first in my phone then in my mailbox. I would suggest removing doing a Factory Reset (please backup first) and trying again if it doesn't resolve itself.
Also check your Gmail settings, make sure (just in case, because it might already be) that IMAP is enabled. Other than this, don't know what to say...
Hope this helps.
Gmail client - must be the 3G cause I tried on wifi and received it instantly.
Push is push the there is no frequency for it. It's live.

Set up your gmail account within the "regular" email app also. Then go into setting and you will see 4 options, one lets you set email size limits, sync intervals and limit emails if you want too.

Hi - Now that Windows Live has setup hotmail to allow push, using EAS I think..
does anyone know how to set this up on our X10s? do we need to use moxier?
Cheers.
Can't you just use the k9 mail app from market. I have two hotmail accounts and both get pushed through. I receive notifications much the same as receiving sms

Hi.. I use k9 but it pulls the emails on a regular polling frequency, rather than having them pushed to it from hotmail..
If yours is being pushed to your phone can you let me have your settings to try please?

oooohhhhh I see.
I think mine are being pulled then, however, i'd like to know what the difference is, and the benefits of pushed emails ??
Just in case you still wanted them here are the email settings i use for hotmail

Push is when you get new email sent TO your phone; pull is when you check whether there are new emails available.
Hi everyone,
Just got my new SGS 2 (with XWKE1), configured it, all was cool. Then Kies offered update to XWKE2, which I gladly accepted. After the update, the Email app was constantly using 30 to 50% of CPU!!! Phone was getting hot and battery was discharging like crazy.
The Email app was configured to use MS Exchange. My other phones (iPhone4, Moto Defy) have no isses with Exchange.
When I delete MS Exchange acc from SGS2, all is cool, phone works like a charm.
Decided to downgrade to XWKE1 (with factory reset), and guess what - Email app works fine with my Exchange account! No phone overheat, no excessive CPU usage.
Out of pure curiousity, upgraded again to XWKE2 (with factory reset) - same erratic behaviour of Email app after an Exchange acc is configured!
So, now I'm back to XWKE1, extremely happy with the phone, and wondering if I'm the only one with this issue?
Email isn't even showing on the battery list on mine. XWKE2 VillainROM 1. I've got exchange push running, and just received an email a few mins ago. Seems strange you are getting high usage.
Yeah, mine is push too... And works fine on KE1. Will try the KE2 Villain tonite, if I get time...
A question abouth the e mail app.
Can't you sync mail every 1-2-3 or 6 hours or something like that. I can only choose, Push or by hand.
Sure you can: in Account Settings/Sync Schedule there's Peak Schedule and Off Peak Schedule. There you can find options needed.

Only problem I have is it don't let me add an email account unless I have social hub installed and select it as a premium account. Without selecting it I get errors for either incorrect email and password or connection error but same details with the box ticked works. Piece of crap!

Sorry for being dumb. But the only options for peak shudule are--> when peak shedule is on--> push or by hand. When peak shedule is off--> push or by hand.
Than I can install peak time.
But nowhere I can choose every hour, every 2 hours or so...
having also issues with email app and exchange push. with XWKE2

Weird... I have the choices... As a theory - these setting might be under Exchange server control, so their appearance may depend on your Exchange server admin's will.

Microsoft Exchange Server is a corporate email solution, used in companies and organizations. Why are you configuring Exchange account on your SGS2, if you don't know where your Exchange server is, if you don't mind me asking? Because if it's the Exchange server at your work, you must talk to your IT dept.
I have the exact same problem with mine, although I have no idea how to "factory reset" the phone..
Does anyone know how to reset it??

Mate, I don't think you've got an exchange account set up. You have your hotmail set up as a 'premium' pop3 account. The default email/social hub app is somewhat tricky/annoying (compared to winmo 6.5). Hotmail have their own exchange server that you can use. I can provide a link on how to set it up later this evening or you can try to google it.

Hey all,
Can't believe I am actually interested in disabling GMail.
But the standard "Mail" app seems to have a nicer UI than the Gmail app. Especially since it has dedicated Gmail settings.
But how do I disable the gmail app (can't be uninstalled...yet)? Obviously without root, and not sure it's worth the trouble to temp root.
It's just that every email received at Gmail gives me two separate notifications...

The best I can think of (without rooting) is turning off notifications for Gmail so you don't get harassed by two alerts.

That's really all you need to do.
I turned off the gmail notification the first day I had the thing for the same reason.

FWIW, the dedicated Gmail settings in the Sense mail app are POP3 settings. In other words, every email will show up on your phone as unread, even if you have read it on another device or the web interface.

Thanks for this. I did disable notifications for the Gmail app, which worked like a charm.
As to the pop3 mail, I did not get an inbox full of unread mail when I set it up.
Perhaps the Sense mail has been improved? I am familiar with what you are describing, but that is not the behavior I am seeing.

This issue happened for me on my Rezound, so we are talking about the same Sense version. When I set it up, I didn't get an inbox full of unread messages either, but every message I got from then on wouldn't get marked in Sense mail as unread unless I viewed it from within that app. So, for example, I could get a new gmail message in the gmail app/sense mail, and view it in the gmail app/web interface, but even after refreshing the sense mail it still shows up as unread. Eventually I had to remove the gmail account in sense mail and set it up manually as an IMAP.
An HTC rep responded to an email of mine and basically told me that manual IMAP was the only way to get around the issue. But kudos to you if everything is working!
Does anyone here have an exchange account on their note, and has noticed that on occasion the email and calendar apps are eating the battery?
This is the second time this has happened to me. As you'll see by my screenshot, the usage is even higher than the display and is keeping the phone awake. This happened to me this past weekend and I deleted the account and re-added it. That seemed to clear up the issue but now it's back.
Anyone else experience this?

I had the issue with email. I just went into settings and adjusted the sync schedule. I basically turned email off while I was asleep. That worked wonders for me.

This happens to me all the time. I think it is an issue that Android has when syncing to exchange servers. mine consistently will lose sync and I get repeated unable to connect messages so basically exchange just keeps the phone awake in constant attempt to sync. I've tried other email exchange apps and they work for a few days or more but then the issue starts up again. This was a problem on my epic 4g, evo4g and my Samsung intercept. I think your best bet is to do what you've been doing, monitor when your phone is acting up, remove your exchange account and add it back in again. That's pretty much what I do now. I wish sometimes that I didn't have to use my phone for work. Fyi with touchdown email clients app this has never been an issue. Try the 30 day trial. I just didn't want to spend the money on the app.

Install CPU Spy - I'll bet that you'll see it is keeping the CPU on a high speed and not entering deep sleep. Then kill the email app via the Task Manager and go back to see if that solves the CPU.

1st post, hi!
So you have your calendar syncing with exchange?!? How?
I have an exchange email synced and set to push. I haven't had any issues with poor battery life or over heating of the phone.

I'm assuming that you are using exchange sync'ed. I do, getting e-mail fine, calendar just isn't working. After a little google fu', there are multiple reports of the same thing. If yours is working, it maybe an exchange issue on my end then.
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.
Thanks.

I just double checked and it says my calendar is synced with exchange. I also know that I am able to accept meeting requests from within exchange emails and it adds it to my my calendar.
Now I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I use Jorte as my main calendar which is also synced to my Google calendar.

Any idea why Email keeps my phone awake for 55 minutes when it is set to sync once every 4 hours?

How much email do you normally get? It appears that it takes 14 minutes or so to sync fully, each time it syncs (if each sync is equal in size).

Mine does this as well and I am pushing 2 email accounts. One is a corporate email account and the other is my Gmail that I have set as a corporate account also because I like having a unified inbox and I like the stock email app over the Gmail app...
Syncing takes like 30 seconds. Where did you get 14 min

Uhh, math, his phone was on for 16 hours, email was set to sync every 4 hours, and had a wakelock of 55 minutes. So 55 minutes /4 is just under 14 minutes (assuming each sync takes the same amount of time). The op never said how much email he gets in those 4 hours, or how large the emails are, or how fast (or slow) his Internet connection is when he is trying to download the email.
The amount of email, the size of the emails, and the connection speed all contribute to how fast, or in this case, how slow the email sync is. And that all occurs after a connection is made, which can have problems of its own.

Phone is on WiFi and it only downloaded like 3 or 4 e-mails in that time period, none with attachments.

Hmmn, strange. I personally hate the stock moto email client, so I'm running dhacker's cm10. Personally didn't notice any problematic wakelocks when I was using the stock app, but I had an exchange account set to push and 2 other email accounts set to sync every 30 minutes (main problem I was having is that it didn't work with encrypted emails and certificates). You could try to use the 4.0.4 ICS aosp email app, someone said they were able to get it working under jb.
Also, sorry, didn't realize that you made the thread when I wrote my last post.
