I have searched with no success for this topic, so here it goes:
How can I make/edit Sense 4 themes? I notice Joelz (or whoever does his themes) and Newtoroot both have custom themes (as well as the built in HTC themes) in their roms, how can I go about making my own? I assume all you're really doing is changing variables for the colors in the UI and certain widgets, and changing default theme wallpapers, right?
Thanks XDA
They're changing the skins. Until a new m10 tool is released those files can't be changed

There is quite you can do that doesn't involve skin images. and m10 code can be modified just not the images.
The problem is some apks won't decompile but many can

Is there a difference between a skin and a theme.
Skins are usually apk and themes are flashed.
Themes will change the dynamics of the entire look of your GUI. A skin changes the background and launcher look.

Can we use themes on a custom rom? Especially with some of the Rosies and lockscreens that have been modified. Will the skins graphics conflict with thosen
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Themes are usually made for specific type of Rom ie (sense) and so on. Make sure thw theme you're flashing is compatible with the Rom.

So do you need to be rooted to load a skin/theme? As a non-rooted newb, is the wallpaper the only real thing I can change?

Theme yes, Skin no. There are several skins on the forum that non rooted users can download and enjoy.
hallo,
i would like to port sense 2.1 themes from HDPI to MDPI, i use this tool to port the .pngs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785864 this works. But i dont know what i must do next. can anyone help me? btw. i use this themes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048894
Nice themes in the thread you pointed at
I'm not the dev here, but have you tried to put these new graphics in the apk's folder /drawable-mdpi/ and /drawable-land-mdpi/ ?
Maybe you could ask cryshop because he knows something more about the android/htc UI i think
I put the mdpi folders back in the apk but doesn't work, so I think I must edit any other data

Guys, did you look around before posting this?
All you have to do is replace the png files in an existing MDPI theme....
Images should have very similar shapes and exactly the same resolution as the image you're replacing...
See this HOWTO
I don't like to edit the HTC framework. I would like to make apk, like the themes in ogo2 Rom

This would be great if you can port the theme.

I think he means to use another theme as base, for example the Herring.apk from ogo2's Rom and put the new files in there.
but the hering.apk have other folders drawabl-land-mdpi, drawabl-mdpi and drawabl. But in the portet theme are drawabl, drawabl-land-mdpi-v4, drawabl-mdpi-v4, drawabl-port-mdpi-v4.

Try Schiefer.apk, also from ogo2 ROM.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
there is no schiefer.apk in system/app
EDIT: is slate.apk with same folders like hering.apk

Is there any difference between the files in the new ported theme and the herring.apk beside the name? I simply would try it without '-v4' in the folder name.
in the hering.apk are 3 drawabl folders in the hdpi 4.
Hi. Can you give me a link to the MDPI skins you have ported, please.
Could some one port this over to the EVO 3D?

Hmmm I wasn't even aware you could theme sense 3.5 yet

I'm almost done making my own, for sense 3.0. Look for it in the themes sub forum soon.

oh haha I didn't even realize this was your thread, the same person that messaged me. But maybe so you could get exactly what you want you could try out the UOT Kitchen.
Do not know if its possible, I would love a black face/white number clock widget. I know there are some out there for sense 3.5, are any available for 3.5?

Not until we get S-Off
I am ready for this now Hope someone creates some good themes for the rezound.
something like this clock.... ?

If someone gets to it before me feel free to use our images to rebuild a 3.5 fusion.apk

How can you rebuild fusion.apk or any other sense apk? I didnt think m10 tools worked on sense 3.5 yet?
Is there something else that will help theming of sense 3.5?
You can replace the m10 file of a Sense3.5 theme and replace it with a m10 file from a sense 3.0 theme and it will work. Only thing that won't get skinned is the Rosie launcher. I've done this and has worked on my Sensation.

That won't work on the Rezound. I've been at it all day and that method only works on Sensation and EVO 3D. Trust me guys, Fusion.apk which leads to Clock MODS, Lock Ring, Rosie Home/Rosie Lock CANNOT be themed right now until Diamondback releases the tool for it. For those who haven't a clue who Diamondback is or Flemmard, and HAVEN'T donated yet, I strongly recommend giving them thanks or spare a small donation to these guys. We wouldn't be able to theme any HTC Fusion.apk's without their work.
Here's where it all started:

I thought flemmard had to drop out of it....? Man that caused drama! Lol. Did he decided to stick with it?

He's out, but still is there behind the scenes once Diamondback finds another reverse engineer.
@raiderman I'm sure your best bet for now is too use beautiful widgets. If your not already.

There was a widget on the market meant for sense 3.0. It was an exact duplicate of the original except the inverted colors, and a slightly lighter background. I will search for it, its sweet!

Would really like to make several Metroid Themes for my Rezound running Viper 1.0.3. I'm very new to it and was wondering what files to edit. Like do I edit the files in the drawable-hdpi or the ones in drawable-xhdpi? Are they basically the same files but in different resolutions? Also how do I edit the statusbar's look. Not the icons on the status bar but the actual status bar itself; like turning it from like black to red or something?
I think its drawable-hdpi. I haven't themed in awhile and my ssd corrupted so I lost all turning progress I had on my computer. As to theming the status bar; I think its part of the systemUI.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
No it's always going to be xhdpi
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
It's a hybrid of the 2. Most are in xhdpi.

I'm learning myself, I hoping to see the venom theme engine to evolve enough to theme other aspects of the Rom like misc apps or accents throughout the Rom
I'd suggest if your not using virtuous ten studio to try it out, it really makes life easier

Thanks for all the help. I have one more question about notification icons. When I open them in photoshop they are indexed and in 8bit; do I need to keep them that way or can they be RGB?

ok thanks I'm giving it a try.
EDIT: In the Statusbar theme can I add things from SystemUI.apk such as the Notification Bar Background and have that show up in my theme or would I have to edit SystemUI.apk?

Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
you will want to open the indexed images in something like paint.net, save them, then open in photoshop to edit.
If you are only worried about the statusbar icons then i would suggest grabbing the theme template from viprez thread and just change them, much easier approach and you know what icons you need to change.
Ok thanks for all the help. I think i can take it from here. Again thanks everyone.
