Hi guys, I'm sorry to bother you but I couldn't manage to find the answer neither in the forum or through Google.
So I'm currently using CheckROM v6 on my phone with latest N.E.A.K. kernel for GB, and I wanted to upgrade my phone to a ICS build. I would have waited for CR v7 but that's been in-developing for so long I actually stopped waiting
Long story short, the Hydra H2O v1.4 caught my attention; my question is: since I'm coming from GB, do I have to perform any particular step before upgrading, such as making a clean Stock ICS install from Odin, or can I just perform a deep clean of my phone, then install the .zip through CWM?
Thanks beforehand for any helpful answer

Just flash hydra over top of checkrom. But make sure you make a nandroid backup and do a full wipe.

Any time. Just make sure you make the nandroid backup every time you flash something. I even store one on my computer just in case

Hi guys, after a little patience I'm now very interested in ics upgrade.
My s2 runs kk5 stock rooted cause I don't wanna miss features like mhl tv-out.
So my doubts are:
Is possible to flash kp8 with mobileodin?
What about bootloader? Jig still working?
To switch back to kk5 restore nand backup is enough or also other needs to be downgraded?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Jussy.

Then i suggest you wait until it officially comes out rather than flashing a leaked version that isn't finished. Until it comes out you can read the faq's on here and familiarize yourself with flashing.
The current ics leaks and cm9 are both not really ready to be daily drivers due to instability and missing features, only try if you know what you are doing, if you are use you want to try, make sure to take a nandroid and read the relivent threads.

Thanks for your fast and kind reply.
I'll wait for a stable release.
I have KK5 stock and rooted using cfroot kernel with the old jig compatible bootloader as my favourite firmware.
I also have been using cm9 which I like a lot. The missing features and bugs don't effect my daily usage.
I never flashed the ics bootloader and never experienced any problems.
I made a backup of kk5 via CWM and flashed cm9 then gapps then faceunlock then wiped as directed in cm9 1st post. Setup my phone how I wanted it then when I was happy with everything I made a backup via CWM of cm9.
Ive been restoring either KK5 or cm9 via CWM and so far not had any hassles flipping between them.
When I want to checkout a new version of cm9 ive been able to restore my CWM backup of cm9 then flash New version then flash gapps then faceunlock then wipe cache. This has not wiped my cm9 setup and data and all has been good to use. No FC etc.
Hope this helps.

I just bought a used galaxy s2 I love the phone already. I had the samsung infuse before, and I loved the cm7 nightly builds on that phone, but had to upgrade You all know how that is haha.... I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172 to root and then had to unlock seeing as I am on rogers.... First thing I have to say is that every time I boot up I see the triangle with the ! in it so I might have done the wrong one? It said before i had the i9000m btw. And I installed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 as the kernel
Another thing I might as is that when I tried to open odin 1.85, it would say Odin.ini with a bunch of sqaures, i press ok and it closes.... So i just used 1.83.
Last thing is who do I go into cwm recovery, and I want to go on a cyanogen mod 7 or 9.... Should I try cm9? And how would I do that?
THANKS!
Hope everyone here is more helpful than on the infuse sometimes
the yellow triangle is always there when you boot it cause you rooted it.. but gladly, you can remove it with a usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udzMQ_dsci4) or without usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOXNf_kH-iA)
I highly suggest skipping CM9 and giving Resurrection Remix a try. Also learn to live with the yellow triangle and forget the CF kernels. I use Siyah kernel and there are other alternatives just as good.
I've tried almost every rom and kernal for S2 and I truly believe RR and Siyah is the best performing combo of them all.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks I will trythat now, but how do I do that? I sent you a message
If you don't have a usb jig to reset the flash counter and remove the triangle on boot up try chainfire's TriangleAway app either found on the play store(paid) or in his thread here on xda(free). Make sure you are running an ICS rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Sorry I meant how do I do the siyah and rr thing but thanks
I received your message. All the info you will need is right here on XDA already. When you rooted your phone you probably installed CWM recovery (press home, volume up and power buttons to boot into it). Assuming you have that you can just follow the steps in the RR thread to install. It already comes with Siyah Kernel so you can simply flash the latest version to keep it updated. I used odin to flash a modem firmware for Canadian networks but that's optional since the stock base band in rr worked fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
So that means all I do is flash rr from cwm and clear that bs stuff and I'm good to go?
Sent from my GT-I9100M using xda premium
Its simple as that Just follow the extended steps in the faq of the rr thread and remember to make backups in cwm in case you make mistakes and need to try again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
if u need to do a factory reset/full wipe in the process of intalling the new rom
all apps and data will be deleted
so its convenient to make backup important things like your apps, sms, or call log
not compusory though
backup apps using Titanium backup, there are free and paid version

Stick with GB. CM9 AOSP AOKP and Samsung ICS roms will give you a headache, poor performance and poor battery life. My two cents.

in my opinon this definetly isnt the case. ive been running ics roms for months now and ive barley had any problems at all, i prefer it to gingerbread, performance is good, and smooth. sensation ics rom is a nice one

Hey there,
I'm currently using a Galaxy S2, which is running stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 (no updates available through OTA nor Kies)
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
And now I would like to get CM9 on my phone. Although I read quite a lot of threads and tutorials, I still have some
unanswered questions left.
Of course I would like to get onto CM9 in the fastest (and safest) way possible, but I'm not really sure how I would accomplish this.
Is it rather better (or even possible) to just go from 2.3.4 directly to CM9? Could I first root it using insecure kernel or CF-Root and then use CWM Recovery to flash CM9? And would this process actually flash all the necessary things, like the correct firmware, kernel and bootloader?
Or should I use Odin to flash it to stock ICS first and then just follow the official full update guide from the Cyanogenmod Wiki (because it is written with the requirement of stock ICS running on the phone) ?
Please help me out with this, I'm thankfull for every answer that I get
Follow the noob-proof instructions on the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20841817 , and you can jump to cm9 from your current firmware, no need to go to stock ics first.

Just another question, as far as I understood it I don't need to root before applying the Resurrection Edition of CM9, right?

No. It already includes CWM recovery. After you flash it, boot to CWM and flash the last cm9 update + gapps, wipe data/cache and reboot.
Make sure you put the .zip files on your sdcard first
Great thanks!
This seems to be easy as it can get
Oh and just one more thing, should I do a backup of some sorts? Just a little bit unsure, because then I would have to root first, do a backup and then would be able to the whole CM9 thing (I don't know if the rooted kernel could somehow interfere with the Resurrection Edition later on)

Yeay, just flashed my phone and everything worked out smoothly and perfect, didn't have any problems at all
(I also didn't do a factory reset, is it necessary to that? Because right now there isn't any data left from before and I'm also not experiencing any problems whatsoever, so not really sure if I should do it and what it would do)
Thanks to everyone who posted here and helped me to finally flash my phone :good:

I'm not sure, but i think the NOOB proof method you used already wiped your data in the flashing process. So there is no need for you to do it again

I would recommend first getting the ota 4.0 ICS update from att. Upgrading from ICS to Jb is a lot easier and smoother. From opinion upgrade in CWM not Odin. Cwm is harder to hard brick device like Odin does. As long as you have Cwm you can recover soft brick. To get Cwm the easiest way it to find a kernel and use Odin to install it. Once you have Odin your free to try what you want. I prefer the new JB leak. Good luck

Also not trying to be a ****, but I would advise you too to read a lot more. (OP pay attention too) Flashing a custom kernel with Odin will trip the flash counter, something not easily reset and something you're much better off avoiding. And there should be no problems upgrading from GB straight to JB if you flash ROMs via CWM, so I have no idea what you're talking about when you say the OTA to ICS should come first.
To OP, I will give three points of advice. Please heed them well, and remember that they are for your own protection and benefit, not mine.
1. Never, ever, EVER, I MEAN GOD FORBID EVER, use ROM Manager on an SGH-I777. NEVER!
2. CWM is built into custom kernels for I777. It is not separate, so do not try to update it unless you want to flash a new/different custom kernel. Again, NEVER.
3. Read this guide at least 3 times completely, until you fully understand everything in it, before attempting to further modify your phone.
Now, if you finish everything I said and still have questions, feel free to ask after then and I will try to help you. Good luck and Merry Christmas! Oh, and hit the thanks button if you find my advice useful, please
First welcome to a whole new world. I also used the Fuze for a while and Android is a whole new beast. Forget what you think you know and start fresh. Spend a day or 2 reading the threads. They may not make Sense at first but they will after you read a bit.
Hi chaps,
as my name suggests I'm getting older and could use a little help with this here flashing marlarkey.
I have a samsung galaxy media player 5.0 UK yp-g70 FIRMWARE gb 2.3.6 KERNEL 2.6.35.7-G70xxkpf-cl562492 [email protected] R14.
I would like to try me some "Project Butter" and try and squeeze the pips from this single core 1ghz device.
As you can see I have flashed the GingerBread rj r`4 Kernel and that was a nice boost along with CWM installation.
Flushed with success last night I tried some other upgrades but the phone hung at the Samsung logo. Luickily I had a back-up to restore to and after a few tries I got her going again.
Is this the process I should take and the files I should use to get me where I want to be?
(Intl. r4 sultan Kernel) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1942282&d=1367907367
(Team RemICS JB 5.0.1) http://www.team-remics.com/downloads/Samsung_Galaxy_Player_5/RemICS-JB/5.0.1/startdownload/28/
gapps goo.im/apps
Transparency mods) http://www.mediafire.com/download/9cutwh55h85dhgy/80transparency.zip
1) I copy all these files to the root of the external SD card
2) Wipe /data, /system, /dbdata, /cache and dalvik-cache
3) Flash the ROM in recovery
4) Flash my international Sultan Kernel
5) Flash the latest GApps
6) Flash transparency mods
reboot. Profit!!
Only problem is that I watched a yotube video that said if you were coming from GingerBread then you'd need to upgrade to Ice Cream sandwich before making the jump to JellyBean. Can I use the steps outline above to rocket to where I want to be or should I go ICS as a stepping stone and, if so, what additional intermediate steps should I take?
Thanks for the time, Guys. It is much appreciated!
You might be able to go straight to 4.2.2, but I'd flash 4.0.x first just to avoid any issues. Also if you're flashing Remics-JB v5.0.1, Sultan Kernel is already included in the zip file, so you don't need to flash it separately

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated, as promised!
If I copy this file to the SD card [cm9_Supermaster34_230912_stable.zip] and flash, is that is all that required to get me to 4.0.4? Does this .zip include an ICS Kernel as I currently have the RJ r14 GB one flashed? If not could you recommend one for me that would fit my needs? Sorry to ask too many questions but after yesterday's SNAFU I'd rather measure twice and cut once, so to speak.
Many thanks!

That will get you to 4.0.4 but you'll have to flash an INTL kernel separately because that only contains a USA kernel. I recommend using the kernel by noisyfox. Sultan kernel should also work, but I've never tested it on ICS.

does need a reboot and you see this in time let me know otherwise I shall plod on regardless.

Yup. Saved mine last night but that religious joy of a successful recovery wouldn't be the same without the depths of despair of a newly bricked machine. Normally, I always put off the back up just to tweak a little more but this time I was johnny on the spot (and good job too).
I just wanted to say a big thanks for everything you have done. I can report a big success and am now currently running 4.2.2 kernel 3.0.7.8 Sultan and it hasn't bricked. YAY!
I'm looking forward to having a play with this and all the other exciting things I can now do with the device that I OWN rather than use. Awesome. I haven't had so much fun since the OG xbox days.
For anyone who's been following and wants to upgrade form gingerbread to Jelly bean
all you need to do is to install ICS Crumble 1.6 to get ICS 4.0.4. once you've had a play of that install player 5 remics jb 5.0.1 for jellybean. Lovely aroma installers will hold your hand through the installation process.
I'll go off and have a play with my new JB device. If you have any other suggestions of cool packages to add or have a gander at then I'm all ears. Thanks again!!
