Xperia S/ Palm Touchstone - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Has anyone tried modding a touchstone into the xperia S. I would think you could put one under the removable cover and solder the line onto the existing connector.

I'm not sure it can works ...
I "worked" on it but with the NFC antenna I don't want to try
If someone can help I'm interested too !

Yeah I wouldn't mind trying. Not sure if there is enough space under the battery cover although there might be enough space under the nonremovable piece. Ill have to check it out. It would be nice to get it to work.

I really think this might be possible. If one were to add the inductive charging coil to the lower part of the phone you might be able to not obstruct the nfc. Also the Galaxy Nexus mods doesn't obstruct the NFC and their antennae is in the battery itself. My only reservation is figuring out where to put the wires connecting to the coil. On some of the other touchstone mods it is easy to see the usb connectors but on the Xperia S i am confused. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

TG01 external wifi antennae is possible!!!!

ok i may have this completely wrong as i have not tested it yet but i noticed on the back of my tg01 i had 2 round black stickers, one top left, one middle left.
After peeling this stickers off i have 2 little ports which look remarkably like the ports used on internal wifi chips (laptops, nintendo ds) which the areial plugs into for the wifi signal
We can now enhance the tg01's wifi reception with a little careful wire placement
i hope his helps someone with the wifi reception & maybe better battery life as its not having to try so hard for a signal

no, i did think this but they are to small. only 2-3mm across. i know what im talking about when it comes to hardware, they are definitely wifi ant. ports.

its called an ipx connector, the pigtails they sell can be used to act as the antennae.

that connector u linked in is a standard connector used with laptop wifi card , they have a little pin in the middle , the connector on the tg01 has no pin in the middle , the ring around it is the shading
kk here is what i know so far.....
most (if not all) builtin wifi chips have an antenae port out, i know this through research with the nintendo ds, and internal laptop chip on various laptops ranging from toshiba to sony.
they commonly have two of the ipx ports for the loop with the wifi flylead.
it may be possible qualcomm have used a proprietary ipx adapter for extra sales through the hardware of there chipset or toshiba have gotten the grubby little hands on it and done it that way
we need people who want to run an experiment on this and find out if they are what i think they are or if im completely wrong

i happen to have a connector ur looking for , but , it doesnt have a pin in the middle and its 90' angled so it wont fit unless i get the back cover off ... with that said , i dont have a 3angled srewdriver thats needed

could it be possible the snapdragon chipset has done away with the pin for a design point? they may be purely there as a dud bit of hardware as qualcomm have directly etched the wifi ant onto pcb and not allowing the flylead?
or...
they may be semi usable with the core (the bit with the pin) etched onto the pcb and the earth allowed to be enhanced by just using the outer rim of these ipx ports?

im totally wrong and as well as the usb host function you could attach a couple of jump leads to the beast via these ports and jump start that big ol v8 what keeps stalling?

i will upload pics tomorrow, they wont be great quality as i have to use my wifes blackberry for em and it dont take great up close pics.
test points are a possibility, tbh it did cross my mind but usually there just dotson the pcb, not ports, but it is a more advanced piece of hardware.
just out of interest but if you were to hook it up with the ports via usb, there would be a chance you could damage it because of the power usb ports output. if it turns out to be wifi then your gonna blow the chip or worse.
but if you want to try it then by all means psot results

u can clearly see it also has two unused connectors of the same kind wich appear to be unused /but on tg the two upper ones were connected on the pcb!!!/
as for the interconnection of unknown function on the backplate they used the battery cover to pass it thru(the cover's back is unpainted on thoose specific points to give conduction) if it were to just hold the cover in place the would of left the paint on

so i was right, we can get better wifi signal with these ports.
and then
better signal + less energy needed = better battery life
and the SE using the conductor pins for the back cover they have used that on the old w series of phones to. no real idea of what it does though

External aerial points for testing the phones at the factory? Can they be used/abused to get an external or bigger aerial setup? What connector is that without the pin????????
Update.. is it an MMCX connector ? (or even MMCX-KC). I am tempted to buy one from ebay (although my TG01 is bricked LMAO, at least I'd know if it fit!) Pretty certain now it's an MMCX connector. Now trouble is... you can get that connector for GSM and GPS... so what are the connectors for I wonder.
For example.. I have terrible reception in the office so having a bigger external aerial on the phone may help, but I'd be interested in a better GPS cable as well Let's have some fun!
EDIT: OR.. I just had a look at my Moto V3i external connection and that is almost identical to the connectors on the TG01.. and it looks like you can get an aerial/antenna kit for the v3/v3i Might give it ago but it's pricey at about £20 :-(

Well... I just ordered a 3G/UMTS antenna from china (so will be a while) with a MMCX connector. I will let you guys know if it fits AND works
Another edit LOL: I also just ordered another external antenna. This time for the V3i RAZR, as it looks like it has the same connector type as the TG01, so will give that a go. Only cost £8.05 for the adaptor and the antenna, so not 'too' bad for something that should fit.

Atrix Inductive Charger?

xboxexpert posted a tutorial for this on a nook color here . Looks easy enough and the same method should apply.

After looking at the iFixIt teardown for the Atrix I'm not thinking this would be a straight forward process.

Need a better shot, but it looks like you can still hit the resistor between the two ground posts. Going to need some thin wire though.

Don't think I'm going to sacrifice my Atrix to the hardware mod gods. Enjoying it too much and not terribly interested in dropping the money to replace it if it doesn't work out.
I don't know if I will be doing the mod, but these are some of the tips I would follow if i decided to. If I do it I'll post pictures..

I'm sure there's an easy (+) pin you can solder to - so far i haven't found one, but many people cut a usb plug to fit inside the usb female socket and route the cables somehow (Watch the first video below). You have to remove the cut usb in order to use it with computer, also its quite ugly. The best, but very hard way is to solder the (+) wire directly to where the usb socket is soldered to the phone's circuit board .This I'll leave to a jewelry craftsman, I know, with lots of experience. MAKE SHURE YOU KNOW WHICH PIN IS THE POSITIVE!!! For polarity of the palm pixi's circuit boat refer to the first picture.

I bought some of the pixi components and will try this out without the requirement of soldering.. I've been thinking.. is there any way to use the leads from the battery as the connection point as opposed to soldering directly to the port? Or is there a voltage regulator that I'd have to go through first...
First, you should try if it's really charging Atrix (batt's percentage going up), because it needs more current than standart phone.
But i'm thinking of modyfing my own, but with less invasive method
I wouldn't take apart my atrix again. I may have killed my first one getting my screen out. Those ribbon cables are a pain, and well, you might not need to remove the flex cables (the black flat ones), but if you do, you are most times pulling up the temp sensor too, and that thing never goes back!!
Just make sure you are good at what you do

That was what I was considering. Unfortunate that the variances for the attrix are so tight.

If you're going to do that, you may as well just buy one that's already made.
I meant to do that as proof of concept. If it charger, take it apart and hide it under the battery cover.

But whats the point in buying a lapdock or media dock when you can just get a laptop? What's the point in rooting or unlocking your phone? You could easily just leave it stock and most of the functions will work just fine.

Prime, dock, and GPS Dongle all together?

Hello everyone,
I understand that the GPS Dongle for the Prime occupies the ASUS 40-pin, which means it won't allow the dock to be used. I'm just wondering whether it is possible in the future to have a cable with compatible ends at both side? Of course it should be male/female to be used with the dock's left hand side female.
This way, theoretically, I would be a able to use my Prime, dock and the GPS Dongle all together while travelling. But I'm not sure that it's possible, even if such cable exists... sometime in the future.
Probably some of you out there have any opinions regarding this matter.
No cable for this currently exists.
However one could be made, if the connector is a straight pass through then it would work. If the connector however only utilizes certain pins then it would either need to be modified or replaced.
Either way it will take some experimentation.
The easy way for now is to remove the device form the plastic housing and plug it into the dock to see if it works.

Yes, I understand that it cannot be done at this moment. But theoretically it might work, right? Or is there something in the dock prevents the GPS to get connected to the Prime? Such thing like, power line (charging) is more priority and is using the same pins?

Theoretically time travel is possible, anyhing is possible theoretically,
But to answer your question, no there are no pins which share data/power.
The only worry is that the dock female connector may only be power and ground, no data, I know this to not be true as I rooted while in the dock, so all pins pass through from what I can tell.
It looks like for ease of manufacture all o the connectors are the same on the tablet, the dock and the dock plug.
A wire or new housing should be easy enough to fab up.
I will test this tonight.

gps dongle doesnt work when plugged into the dock, i tried it and the dongle isnt recognized. The dock doesnt have the proper lines routed to the connector.

Thanks for testing this out.
This means we will need to open the dock and connect the lines that are not connected if we wish for this to work.
Though it seems to me that this may be a specific doc pin being recognized...

a little bit pity 'though, since I have a plan to use them all together on the road.
im currently in the process of tracking down which pins are used in the dongle, unfortunately i only have one dock and its too expensive for me to start ripping it apart however hopefully with the information im gathering and information others are gathering we can get a pinout for the dongle as well as the prime and dock to better understand how everything works

I have one of the SD CARD adapters for the prime (I purchased while waiting for the keyboard). I plugged it into the keyboard power port with an SD CARD inserted and the prime did NOT see it.
I think the port on the keyboard is power only

I I think the easiest way is for a manufacturer to release a case like that that also included wireless charging capabilities. You're not going to be open up your OG and install the needed hardware yourself without serious modification, though.

I was able to put the coild and little magnets in the back of my phone case... so now it sticks to my touch stone... I have not soldered any wires to 5v or grnd on on the phone at all.. That is beyond by ability currently i will look into it. Looks like the nexus 4 has simple prongs already there (for the orb) but they did not include those prongs in the optimus g sprint or att. so either me or someone that is far more skilled will need to figure out where those points should connect to before doing so.
Sorry guys didnt take picture i was a little early to work this morning and did it at my desk before work started. took about 30min. (remember no wiring just simply put coild and magnets in my phone so it at least sticks to the touch stone in my car)

Yeah, they have done it on the N7, and several Samsung phones (much easier with removable backs). Not sure how the OG looks under the hood, but maybe someone could try.
Bump. anyone brave enough to see if the Samsung Note 2 or S4 Wireless charger pad's will fit in our phone? here sure would be sweet if it was as easy as opening it up and installing something like this

[Q] Magnetic Charger Concerns

I've ordered the Z2 and it should be coming to my door any day now. When I realized that a magnetic charger might be a good idea to prevent wear of the microUSB port I started to look at the options available. Unfortunately the charging dock sold by Sony is too expensive in my opinion and I would like to find an off-brand alternative. I've looked through the posts on this forum and have come to understand that putting the charger in the wrong direction could be a big mistake. I'm still willing to buy just a cable but would prefer a dock to help prevent this.
My questions is does anyone have a suggestion for a dock(preferable) / cable?

I was in the same boat. The Sony dock looks nice like but it was fairly expensive.

I've got genuine Sony and this one as well. Sony charger is cut more precisely, phone is held exactly as it should with no wiggle etc. But this alone doesn't justify 10 times higher price. The cheapo one does the job in the same way, I see no difference in charging speed. For example this cable is OK as well. If you don't mind waiting for delivery (it takes about 4 weeks to Europe), I can only recommend these products and Aliexpress site.
Regarding the cables with LED indicator - I've got one and even if it's interesting I don't find it useful. LED light is always on and when it reaches ~95% battery threshold it starts to flicker until fully charged, then the color changes to solid again.
Is it hard to screw up the direction of the charger? I've heard it will completely discharge the battery (It shorts the terminals?)
Also, is there a thin case that has a slot for the magnetic charging / what cases do you use if any?

Theoretically the plastic around the terminals should prevent the connector from actually connecting "the wrong way" but in practice it can still happen, especially if you insist in moving and pushing the cable.
If the cable is coming out from "the middle" of the connector is easier to put it wrong (otherwise is easy to remember the cable has to go from the middle of the phone to the bottom so is much harder to make the mistake). However because the phone is so symetric you might confuse the front with the back and put it in reverse even in the docking station.
And last but not least make sure you have good warranty - it is possible that the magnet will "suck out" the connector from the phone, mine is barely hanging and is supposed to be from the batch that fixed this issue.

I don't have a case. I am using the Mocolo tempered glass on front and back. I bought it from here. Its very thin glass. Even with it on the front and back, the phone slides into the docks easily.
slow charging speed
hi there, i recently updated my Z2 , to 4.4.4 and everything is absolutely as expected but magnetic charging speed has taken a serious blow. with 4.4.2 it was as fast as normal cable charging but now with 4.4.4 it has become extremely slow , almost takes 8 minutes to charge 1%, and more than 8-9 hrs to fully charge ..
anyone else facing a similar issue .....kindly suggest solutions.:crying:

Not only it can work in only one direction but even worse if you manage to make it connect in reverse it might break the phone or the battery. Yay Sony!

I use a "magnetron" cable for several moths now and never had any issues with it.
It is not possible to connect it in the wrong orientation.
I'm really happy with it and would absolutely buy it again.

Very expensive cable though...
And if you wiggle it a bit I'm sure you can make contact with it even in reverse. I assume it is using like any other cable the normal "mechanical protection" which consists in a tiny (fraction of a mm) extra plastic on the "lower" pin from magnetic connector.
