Everything worked fine until that program crashed my phone (was able to charge via A/C adapter/usb cable/sync etc). I was able to replicate the crash (and only a hard-reset makes the O/S operational again).
perhaps it could have been a coincidence.... i do have the $6 a month insurance... i'm thinking i should try to get the Radio/ROM back to stock and just ship this f*cker back to verizon.
I got the verizon boot screen to appear, but it hangs.
Good news is the proper radio shows up,
bad news is these still appear:
bootloader 2.40.Olipro
ROM Version: 3.2.3
I can't seem to find a microSD version of the post-GPS update relocker (back to factory). The stock rom installation just hangs =(.
I'm guessing this would be a red flag for a warranty return?

flash back on a ROM that is supported, then run the titan relocker, and use microSD to flash back to stock after relocking...

Actually i noticed one of the pins in the mini USB port wasn't aligned with the others, i moved the pin where i thought it should be, but i'm still not getting any power.
Does anyone have a high resolution picture of the mini-usb port?

1. i reflashed 3.42.02 (http://rs333.rapidshare.com/files/124696893/Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.02.rar) via micro SD.
2. Flashed the RUU_signed.nbh from RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.56.651.0_RS_TITAN_3.42.02_SPCS2.04_PPST_0718_Ship
3. Rebooted before customization
4. Installed ftp://ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/No2Chem/nueROM v2.1 build 5068.rar from Micro SD (then ran verizon cusomization)
However, i still don't have usb power/sync.

I just took a picture of my mini-usb port on my HTC Titan (xv6800). I'm not sure what's wrong with it, i think it is a pin issue:

What a coincidence. My port must have broke just before I flashed my phone via sd. When I attempted to sync after the flash, I couldn't charge or sync. I assumed it was the flash and re flashed several times till I finally looked at the port. The port design is not the sturdiest, especially for considering that it is intended for headphone use along with the usual charging/syncing. It's a set of pins with a unattached and easily broken plastic guide underneath. It's all too easy for the plastic guide to break or bend, exposing the pins to easy breakage/ bending. My cheap $90 Pharos GPS's port has contacts instead of pins embedded in the guide, seemingly a far more durable design. I swapped out my phone with Sprint. When I explained the problem to the tech, she didn't even look at the phone and immediately set up the swap. I took this to mean that this was an extremely common problem with the Mogul/6800. Good luck!

very interesting, i agree they need to do something about the design of these ports. Never again will i just jam in the usb cable.

I also broke my port. I went to plug in my charger got a hint of resistance and when I pulled the charger out I noticed one of the pins was laying flat against the back of the mini USB port. Well I tried go get a small knife and pry the pin back only for it to break. I was completly screwed. Now I have to charge my batteries and just trade out.

GREAT JOB! Congrats! You also have the most scratched up port I've ever seen . Hopefully, it will hold up. The plastic guide that is now bent away from the pins and likely loose like on my old Mogul isn't like that on a new unit and the straightened pin is weak at the bend. Be very careful using the port.

It's not that the pins are raised, it's that the plastic piece (guide?) is not attached to the pins and may break and/or become loose exposing the pins to damage. Cheap design from a company that knows how!
I am not at all impressed with HTC's build quality, when my USB port broke I also had the dreaded white spot and a failing keyboard. When the time comes to replace my Mogul, I 'm going to be looking to avoid HTC and WM! I've had several Windows Mobile and WinCE PDA's and phones over the past 6-7 years and they still can't figure out how to keep the thing from turning on by itself periodically. Hopefully, my new replacement Mogul will last long enough for that phone to be developed. I'll even consider joining the cult of Jobs!
You mention the dreaded white spot. How common is this? VZW just sent me a refurb for mine and it also has the same white spot I complained about on the one going back to them. I have seen other threads on Howards mentioning it but I am course how bad the issue truly is. My coworker has a 6800 with no white spot and two other people have Moguls with no white spot. I must have the luck for getting this.

Internally mount and wire a 32gb memory stick to the USB port so you get a 32gb hard drive added whenever you dock It might even have enough room for a portable USB hub so you don't lose use of the external usb port?
does anybody think it will be easy to make a DIY dock fix for those with battery draining issues like me?
It seems like it would be relatively easy - just make a switch to either connect or disconnect the cords coming from the docking point.
Or even better, maybe if you put the correct microcontroller in there you can have it switch the pins to floating, if it senses that there is no tablet connected (not sure about the details though)...

Have you seen the post in the General forum (2nd page now I think)? Posted by Asus_USA themselves, if you prove the 6 steps that your dock has the issue you can get a new one! I really do hope that I can get mine exchanged, waiting on a reply from my local service center..

Would love to put in my mifi there as well, attach it via USB to charge = your own 3g model Maybe a little modding you could get the mifi to power on only when the dock is connected (remove the battery of the mifi?) so that when it powers on it'll power on the mifi as well. Only a few thoughts.

it's a good thought but the mifi I have (novatel 2200) wont work without the battery, for some reason if the battery is bad or removed you cannot run usb, it must be the way they have the power run through the battery or charging. Not sure if all are like this or not.

I talked to the Asus service rep about it. They currently won't give you a new one since they have a hardware upgrade to fix it. If you wanted a new one you needed to do before they solved the problem. I'm waiting on the upgrade part to be delivered for for mine. Should in a few days.
A switch should theoretically work. The guy at the service center said the replace something that goes into the hinge of the dock. Looking at the teardown pics, you can see a wire goes into each side of the hinge, so I think they replace the wires and maybe make a new connection somewhere on the dock.
Surprising how much wasted space there seems to be in the dock -- it's nowhere near as tightly packaged as the tablet itself. Looks like Asus can optimize the size or fit some more features in future versions, if they want...
Let me see if I am thinking correctly...Your saying using something like mifi installed via USB wires (will it be always on?) then connect via WiFi on your transformer? So basically your putting the mifi in a case that can never be opened without a screwdriver? I guess one would always have access for your other devices as well as long as the TF is in the vicinity.
P.S. I think I think this is a good idea, not decided though. I like to think of it in a real world application.
there is another post with a guy putting in an SSD, but it bulges at the keyboard. A 32g SD card would be nice.

There's very little chance they'll give anybody the part, and nothing in the previous person's post suggested they're doing so for him.

Well I ended up calling them. I would have to ship the dock to "someone" in the US, have them ship it to the repair center, fix it, ship it back and then ask that "someone" to ship it back to me... sooo, I'm basically screwed... I ended up with a nice 150US paperweight (not even considering the horrible light bleed on the transformer).

Yeah, actually, I hadn't realized that but it does say it clearly on the product warranty page:

took mine apart also and there is quite a bit of room.
i plan on putting a 128gb usb flash drive inside the dock and soldering onto the usb connections once i get all the bits in.
Any bigger pictures? Are the screws under the rubber feet?
just two screws under the rubber feet near the hinge then it just pulls apart from the top
had to take mine apart as the spring/clip mechanism for the sd card wouldnt lock the card in.
now the card is stuck in with no nails haha a simple fix.
This is good news. I hacked a Crystal HD decoder card (pcie), USB wifi dongle, a logitech nano receiver, and a 4 port micro usb hub (from a touch screen setup) into a Dell mini 9 and there was absolutely no room compared to this.
They even have covers for the USB ports, so if you remove a header and solder wires up you just have to hot glue / epoxy that cover from the back and you are money. Looks clean and stock.
I have an old 64 GB thumbdrive that might find a new home. Maybe a 1.8" usb HDD would fit in there with the battery, without the battery who knows.

After looking at the iFixIt teardown for the Atrix I'm not thinking this would be a straight forward process.

Need a better shot, but it looks like you can still hit the resistor between the two ground posts. Going to need some thin wire though.

Don't think I'm going to sacrifice my Atrix to the hardware mod gods. Enjoying it too much and not terribly interested in dropping the money to replace it if it doesn't work out.
I don't know if I will be doing the mod, but these are some of the tips I would follow if i decided to. If I do it I'll post pictures..

I'm sure there's an easy (+) pin you can solder to - so far i haven't found one, but many people cut a usb plug to fit inside the usb female socket and route the cables somehow (Watch the first video below). You have to remove the cut usb in order to use it with computer, also its quite ugly. The best, but very hard way is to solder the (+) wire directly to where the usb socket is soldered to the phone's circuit board .This I'll leave to a jewelry craftsman, I know, with lots of experience. MAKE SHURE YOU KNOW WHICH PIN IS THE POSITIVE!!! For polarity of the palm pixi's circuit boat refer to the first picture.

I bought some of the pixi components and will try this out without the requirement of soldering.. I've been thinking.. is there any way to use the leads from the battery as the connection point as opposed to soldering directly to the port? Or is there a voltage regulator that I'd have to go through first...
First, you should try if it's really charging Atrix (batt's percentage going up), because it needs more current than standart phone.
But i'm thinking of modyfing my own, but with less invasive method
I wouldn't take apart my atrix again. I may have killed my first one getting my screen out. Those ribbon cables are a pain, and well, you might not need to remove the flex cables (the black flat ones), but if you do, you are most times pulling up the temp sensor too, and that thing never goes back!!
Just make sure you are good at what you do
Why not solder the the inductive piece to a chunk of mini usb cable first ? Completely non invasive and you'll be able to prove it works before you solder to the phone.
That was what I was considering. Unfortunate that the variances for the attrix are so tight.

If you're going to do that, you may as well just buy one that's already made.
I meant to do that as proof of concept. If it charger, take it apart and hide it under the battery cover.

Really? What is the point? The cool form factor? Bragging rights? It seems like
a big inconvenience for me, especially when you will need to take your charger somewhere.

But whats the point in buying a lapdock or media dock when you can just get a laptop? What's the point in rooting or unlocking your phone? You could easily just leave it stock and most of the functions will work just fine.

Hello , When I first Purchased my Evo 3D, I noticed that any usb cable attached to it would never fit snug it always had movement like wiggled alot. I should have exchanged it but didn;t think it would eventually lead to serious damage until now, well, somehow the first pin on the right broke off and checking online with research it apparently is the +5 of the usb. Which basically screwed me.
I don't have much of an issue with no longer having the usb data sync ability since I can just use a micro SD adapter, and I have an External Battery Charger from Radio shack which helps because I can just charge the batteries with that and insert in my evo3d But the issue I have now is I realize i rely on the 4G tethering ability which i use constantly and it has become a pain to have to run and switch over batteries so my wifi tethering can maintain my computers online.,
Anyway so noticed a few evo 4g mods online where the person would solder two wires one to the negative and other to the 5v positive where the usb is located and then shape the wires nicely and make a custom usb hole somewhere else on the phone and eventually have a usb charging ability similar to one of the attached pictures ( for evo 4g of course not for the 3d)
So anyway i would like to try something similar where i can just locate some solid solder points on the phone and wire up two 5v and ground wires and relocate a custom usb slot somewhere else on the phone, Below is also some zoom closeups of the evo 3d board so my question is any advice to where I can solder the 5v and ground to, I am clueless to where and what points i should try the underside of the usb slot is all metal so seems like not able to solder there maybe on one of the little chips or something perhaps

Call sprint and talk to a supervisor. They will send you a new phone or set up repair for free. Call and hang up twice, then call again to get sent directly to a supervisor.
Unfortunately me being a tinkerer ended up breaking off the ground pin and was not able to get serviced , even tried the supervisor and no go, I tried another radioshack and sprint store and of course they noticed it was opened so screwed me out...
anyway,, I taken some fair quality images of the board surface. maybe a +5v location can be pointed out from the images? thanks again

Instead of making a new thread, I figured I would add to this... I too am trying to mod mine with inductive charging, unfortunately my hands are a little too shaky to solder to the point that I discovered to be continuous with the +5v on the usb port.
I can't really find a clear picture of the PCB anywhere otherwise I would show you, but its about a centimeter or two down from the top left when you open your phone, run your multimeter through those points and you'll find it.
I guess I came here looking for another point..

Hmm thanks. I will try it when I open the phone. The soldering point should be bigger than the micro-usb pin I would hope.
I know wireless charging is possible via the Touchstone method if I'm not mistaken, but if I recall, you're stuck with using that and only that. Is there a way to hack in wireless charging on the Note 2 with any charging pad such as that Fatboy pillow or the Nokia pads or anything with the Qi standard?
Also, can someone take a picture of the location of the wireless pins on the phone. I hear they're covered, and I just would like to see the back of the device.

I am wondering the same thing. This is the first video I have seen which at least means we dont have to replace the usb charging board. You can see where he solders the leads. He says its a Qi back in the comments.

No, you wouldn't be stuck with charging only through the touchstone. I did this mod on my galaxy nexus and didn't have that limitation. I love the touchstone and I'm looking to find confirmation that someone has done this mod on the Verizon Note2...I see info about all the other versions but not this one. I'm assuming it's going to be similar to the Sprint version mod but don't know for sure. Please, if anyone has info on this mod for the Verizon Note2, respond.

Well I'm intrigued. I own the Verizon note 2, 2 HP touchpads, and 4 touchstone chargers. I love being able to drop the touchpad into the wireless charger and letting it go. To have this functionality with the note 2 would be to cool. I also have a fair amount of electronics knowledge. I'm pretty certain that once retrofitted, a device set up for wireless charging would work with any wireless charger as the principals of charging are all the same as I understand it.
One question that comes to mind.. is there really any difference in the make up of the note 2 circuit board between providers other than maybe the radio circuitry? If not then there isn't any reason why the mod shown in the video shouldn't work. Over the next couple of days I'll check into this and report my findings.
Anyone thinking about getting this?

That would be nice but we don't have contacts to line that up with... We technically do have the hardware their but I have heard a few horror stories about people not being careful and screwing up their phone trying to do the mod. I had wireless charging on my S3 but I think I'm gonna hold out on the Note 2 this time around...

So I ended up buying the Qi charger on ebay along with a new chassis back (it was for the GSM variant) with the intentions of swapping backs and then having the holes to put the qi charger through. After MUCH hacking of the back, it worked, however I lost GPS, and 4G LTE. The chassis is just too different to work correctly.
I then put the Verizon chassis back, back on and used some copper tape to get the contacts to touch without the holes. Everything worked properly, but still no GPS or LTE.
I took it apart thinking I broke maybe one of the pins that use the chassis back as the antenna -still nothing. So moral of the story, don't take the chassis back off or the phone will be half of one. Its been about 4 days and going to various places in SF to see if LTE would come back on, but no dice.
Going to return this phone since its now broke (still 30 days) and next I will try and use the copper tape to put behind the actual battery contacts and NOT open the case at all.
Really wish VZ didn't take away this capability, as I already invested in the wireless charging stuff for my HTC Thunderbolt. Have a S3 and that works perfectly fine since the holes/pins are there.

You must have damaged something. You can take the back off without destroying anything - in fact you have to when you first get the phone since the battery doesn't come preinstalled.
Edit: never mind, didn't misread your post. But people have removed the chassis too - you still must have damaged it somehow.

Ya I must have, everything looked fine, but ya, something happened and I couldn't get it to get back to 4G. Went back to Verizon today and got a new one. I want to try and see if I can just hook directly to the battery terminals... need to get my ohm meter out.
I did it to mine took about a hour be careful and gentle minimum force is needed follow the YouTube video and use the proper tools
