[Q] How to use USB Jig on Galaxy S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can somebody help on using jig for S3 to reset counter..
I think it is some bootloader issue

USB jig does not work on S3 to reset flash counter
If you want to reset your flash counter, just use triangle away from Chainfire

Deleted.

They look like standard USB recovery jigs to access download mode only .
jje

The Jigs stopped resetting the counter on the second GB-bootloader for the S2.
You need the app 'Triangle Away' to reset the counter.
Download mode works fine with the jig, don't throw it away.

Can I get into download mode using a JIG? Where can I get one. My phone will not go into download mode, it will not do anything.

That's what I wrote in the post above yours.
Yes. But only if the phone is not completely hard-bricked (meaning, it has a defective bootloader)

Ebay, repair shops, and the other usual locations.
If you're any good with a soldering iron you can build one yourself. It is basically a 301kOhm (1% tolerance) resistance between Pin3 and Pin5 of the MicroUSB plug, so all you need is a cable you can chop off and the resistance (or it's parts, e.g. 300kOhm + 1kOhm)

Well I guess mine is really hard bricked cuz this resistor trick does not work. Already tried. I work in the tech indusctry with access to all the stuff and many years of soldering so I'm confident in my setup.

Are resistors now considered dangerous goods and sales have to be restricted?
You ma have (access to) a compatible JTAG unit if you're in the tech industry, so unbricking should still not be impossible

The information is almost totally correct... the resistance is between pin 4 and pin 5

I bought from ebay a Jig for S2 for €1.5, but it is not working on my S3, plugging it with phone on or off or after removing battery has no effect, never bring the phone in Download mode...
is the jig for S2 not compatible with S3 or I got a bad jig?

US Cellular Galaxy S3 Hard Bricked
my US Cellular Galaxy S3 has recently hard bricked after attempting to install a rom called energy 2.0 when i attempted to install it said something about a boot.img i dont know if it was bad thing i dont recall and a code 7 error installation aborted.
so after it said that i just decided id keep the KitKat 4.4 rom i had and left CWM through the restart phone option. so after i hit that it turned off and never turned back on, i cant access Download Mode, Recovery Mode or anything no vibration no nada. so i recently decided to purchase a USB JIG from ebay in hopes that it will set it to download mode? however knowing that i have a US Cellular model (SCH-R830U I Believe) all of the descriptions in ebay for the JIGs say that they work for Sprint models, Verizon models and so on but nothing about them working for US Cellular models, so my question is does anyone know if it will work?, i bought it hoping it will work but i just want to know so i dont get my hopes up haha? thanks.

Soft brick and no USB connectivity

I managed to soft brick my wife's Vibrant while trying to put it back to stock ROM: basically I get the "Phone -- Yellow exclmation -- PC". The volume up, down and power combo doesn't work.
In addition, to make things worse, if I plug it into the PC it gets power but the PC doesn't recognize the USB, so I can't use any type of soft unbrick software.
Should I give a try to the USB jig to get into download mode or, do you guys think the USB port is faulty... I know it's kind of hard to know, but I'm primarily curious to see if anyone got in a similar situation with soft brick and no USB connectivity and was able to solve it with the jig...
Thanks!!!!

I'm not sure ajig would help you but its good to have ajig laying around just in case things go bad. The jig will get you into download mode but if your usb cable/usb port is bad then you still can't connect to your pc to use odin. Sounds like you need a new usb cable or you need to clean your usb port. Have you tried cleaning your phones usb port with isopropyl alcohol and a Qtip? We had a member fix his phone this way just yesterday. If that doesn't work and a tmobile usb cable doesn't work then you might have a faulty usb port. Tmobile has a 30 day money back guarantee on the usb cable so try that if you haven't already. If you end up exhausting all options then I recommend www.mobiletechvideos.com to replace your usb port, plenty of folks have had success with them in the past. Just so you know, the only usb cable that works for me is the one from the tmobile store. I'm not sure why but I have three other cables that work fine on my friends vibrant but dont even do anything at all when plugged in to my phone (not even charge). Let us know what ends up being the fix, good luck.

I gave it a try and cleaned out the USB port with some electronic contact cleaner, but that didn't help. I've also tried 4 cables and 2 PC with no differences.
I'll try out the JIG and see if that fixes it if not I'll decide what to do:quite frankly I would unbrick it and bring it back to the stock firmware just to turn around and put it on eBay, so I'm not quite sure it's worth the effort... But since I've already ordered the JIG I'll give that one a try...
Good luck. I suggest you mod your phone like mobile tech videos (tried acronyming it to MTV but you know) did to make it unbrickable.

If you happen to have Amazon Prime, you can get a jig from Amazon in your hands with next day delivery for $8 (3.99 for the jig and 3.99 for the delivery).
Now that said, if you happend to have flashed the GB bootloader at some point, rememer that the download mode is now accessed by the volume up, instead of both up and down. It's definitely worth giving this a try:
- take out the battery
- plug in the usb to the phone and your PC
- hold the power up button and insert the battery. It should go right into download mode
I actually did have a GB room installed... I'll give it a try tonight: thanks for the heads up!!!!
Just noticed that you said you already ordered the jig so NM about the amazon suggestion. I've been in the situation with the exclamation point and thought mine was bricked. I ordered the jig on Amazon and then finally tried what I detailed above and got in download mode. I could not get in DL mode no matter what else I tried, including just powering up with USB attached and volume up held. I had to do it with the battery being inserted with volume up.
Good luck and remember, the jig may work for the phone, but flowers usually work for the wife.
It was indeed the wrong combo to get it into download mode: using the volume up only and it went right in. The USB connectivity is also solved.
After some back and forth I was able to get CM 7.2 loaded and it works perfectly. Now I just need to solve the dreaded GPS issues of this phone: tonight I'll take it apart and see if bending the antenna connector solves it. It is a August 2010 production so it might as well be.
Other than that CM7.2 works pretty damn good. I already have it on my N1 with no issues. The Vibrant is very much snappier now, particularly if you crank it over to 1.3GHz.
Again thanks a lot for all the help!!!!
A friend had the same problem where it wouldn't go into download mode and would just stay at the phone ! computer screen. It would auto turn on when plugged into usb to this screen so that gave me little hope. What I ended up doing was holding all three buttons and when it turned black let go off power but kept volumes held, it would load back to the exclamation screen and I would hold the power button again, it cycled like this 3 or 4 times, but eventually went back to the download mode and I was able to restore with Odin.

No, As far as I reckon he assumed it was all one method instead of 3 separate possible methods. Its only the last one he needs the USB jig.

You perform steps 1 & 2, but did not succeed and I have no electrical resistance required for the manufacture of usb jig I'm in a place where there is no and can not be shipped to Can I extract electrical resistance of any device in the house? What are the specifications of this resistance
Do a Google search for 'make Samsung Galaxy S2 jig'.

Wow. If you can't get it shipped to you, are there any electronic stores in the area? Maybe a cellphone repair shop that has jigs?
Building yout own would require you to cut a microusb cable, dissassemble a household applience (hopefully finding the right resistor) and soldering the resistor to the cable. Are you sure you cannot just buy it from somewhere? Ask from someone? There's a thread about finding jigs in your area. Try looking there.

Broken USB?

Hey all,
I thought my USB port was broken given that it didn't charge and I couldn't connect it to the PC.
So I bought a nice one and replaced it.... no dice. Still doesn't work. However, the odd thing is, I also bought a USB jig and that does work. Anyone got any clue what could be going on?
Cheers
Maybe the wrong USB board, there's a couple of different ones, best way to work it out is match up with the one already in the phone. Search for similar threads in Q&A over the past few mths; there's been detailed discussions (and pics from memory) of which board is which.
Check on this thread.....

As you said that even after replacing the port.... it didnt work. And it worked out after you connected it to your new USB jig. This means that there might be a problem with the original USB wire which comes with phone when you Buy it. It might even be a problem with the Connectivity Board in the phone as it must have been damaged. I'm not really sure about this but it might even be a problem with software... Maybe you should have tried to atleast wipe the whole system... maybe then you would get to know more about the problem.
Cheers
heh, yeah, I did check that and ordered a 2.2, but they sent me a 2.3.
However, I stuck my old 2.2 one back in, and tried it with the jig, and the jig works :S
So no my USB doesn't work, but the USB jig does... that's really got me confused
EDIT: Yeah, I did think about software, so I tried to install a different ROM and then I got scared and thought I bricked the phone (it didn't like that wrong USB version was there I guess). I'll see how that goes.
I tried a different cable. The weird thing is it sort of slowly died, and I had to stick the cable in at a weird angle and stuff, so that's why I thought it was the USB port.
As I understand it, there are 5 (?) connectors in the socket. Each connector when paired with the common or ground contact (probably the shielding on the outside of the socket) will perform a different task (that's probably an over simplification of the sockets functionality.........but you get the idea)....eg/ data transfer in, data transfer out, charging, jig resetting, usb docking, usb otg.....that sort of thing.
When you get the situation you're in, it simply means that the relevant connector for the required task is damaged or worn out.....but that doesn't mean that ALL the connectors are affected.... ..that is why some functions work while others don't.......

[Q] Replacement USB Port Not Recognized When Plugged In

Hello, just asking for a bit of advice. I just replaced my usb port on my galaxy S2 although when I plug it into my computer it isn't recognized. I've double checked everything I can think of including the flex cable itself to make sure it was plugged in properly. It is neither recognized on the pc nor does it charge the battery. The microphone works so I'm sure the replacement part is working in some capacity. Would anyone have any advice on this issue? If nothing else I'm going to try and get another replacement sent.

Could easily be a drivers issue/conflict. Click the link in my signature and go to the section for 'if computer won't recognise' and try the things listed there. I know you're not trying to flash with Odin but same thing applies.

I also tried plugging the phone into the wall using a usb converter and it still doesn't charge. I've also tried on multiple computers without any luck. I also took my galaxy s2 apart again and put it back together to make sure I didn't make any mistakes so after trying all these options I believe it's most likely a faulty replacement part and will get a replacement from the seller.

Ah that's different. When you said in OP that it 'didn't charge the battery' I thought you meant that it didn't charge only when plugged into PC. My bad. Hope that you get a refund/replacement without hassle :good:
I reckon you've bought the wrong revision of the board. Did you check the existing board in the phone & see what revision is printed on it, and order the exact same part. If you just lob on eBay & search for 'Samsung Galaxy SII I9100 usb port' there's every chance you're going to get the wrong part.

Spot on there are different rev numbers on the part: 1.5, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4. You need to make sure that the rev number corresponds with the original part otherwise your mic may not work or you have no signal etc..
I replaced mine not knowing this and don't know what the original Rev number was. I bought the phone in sept 2011 in the uk- does anyone know what the rev numbers were in the phone at this time? Thanks

[Q] Galaxy S3 (i9300) won't charge

So I got this strange problem where my phone stopped charging. I tried diffrent cables, adapters, charging it while being off, charging it via the computer and even tried to adjust the little lip in the micro usb port. Is the charging board dead? If it is, will a replacement be expensive?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Well dude I think your assumption is right.
It might be the charging circuit only which may be dead.
Because as you told that you have tried diffrent cabels and chargers but still your charging is not working which means that the usb micro port through which we charge and connect our phone to computer is damaged and should be replaced .
There are many possible reason of damaging usb port like you may have drop your phone or by using faulty cabels and chargers or if u have rooted your phone then there is possibility of changing the voltage of current to more than 1000 Mhz etc etc.
You should try to flashed a complete stock rom by downloading from sammobile or directly using kies to update or re-flash your phone
you can try that may it may help you.

You can try micro usb port which is available on ebay but it would be extremely very dangerous until and unless you know what you are doing.
My suggestion is to give your phone to the samsung care and tell then to repair it.
If your phone is in warranty then they will do it for free. You just need to provide them a copy of bill at the time you purchased s3.
Press THANKS if I helped you
