I usually let my fascinate plugged in whenever I'm in my house. I keep my laptop battery away from being overcharged, but should I be aware of overcharging my phone too?
I know it discharges when it reaches a full charge, but it's still charging since it does receive current right? I don't want to shorten the battery capacity due to overcharging..

Your battery will stop accepting the charge when it reaches 100%, then trickle drain down to about 95%, then accept charge until back at 100%, then trickle down again and continue this cycle until you unplug. Everything I read about the Li ion batteries said even though there is this function built into the battery to prevent overcharging, you should not leave the phone on a charger for an extended period of time once it has been charged fully.
on the other hand... how long does it take to significantly shorten your battery life doing that?

$15 for a new OEM battery? If it gives you peace of mind, I'd just charge it whenever it's convenient.
Getting my replacement today and my current phone has suffered from bad battery, so what is the best way to charge the new one please?
Thanks
I charge mine overnight most nights, and it gets better over time. It took a couple of weeks before I started to get really good life out of it.
Based on what I've read, you should charge for at least 3hrs and then drain it completely.
But I'm pretty sure you can still use it right out of the box
I don't think any extra/time specific charging is needed for Lithium batteries for the first charge. Just unplug it when charging completes. But if you calibrate the battery make sure you fully drain it before recharging it.
Regards.
It doesn't matter, there is no need to bother about how to charge modern li-io batteries.
I don't think modern batteries need any kind of special first charge routine....................but I still do it anyway

Just read about this earlier on my local samsung officially site and yes ever since it is lithium battery its ok to charge anytime afor how long even it already 100% and still on the charging mode ots automatically cut off the power supply inside. But i do still charge like 4-6hours for the 1st time

Just charge it to full, and then start using it, charging it overnight does nothing, the BMS will stop it from charging when the voltage coming from the battery is considered 100%.
Lithium batteries do not suffer memory effect like Nickel batteries.
The old charging practices cause more damage.
Lithium batteries should not be overcharged (Same as NiMh)
Lithium batteries prefer to be fully charged. If they stay on empty too long, they get damaged. Using the charge up before charging the battery can damage it, the optimal is to charge it before it gets low. Regardless how well you keep them, they have a predetermined life span, so they will stop working after a few years.
Thanks everyone I am going to charge it for about 6 hours, then calibrate then fully discharge and fully charge, Until o2 unlock it :'(

Completely pointless....once it reaches 100% it stops charging.
Someone pointed out the same thing you all said i.e.modern li-ion batteries don't have a memory, they don't need to be formatted, however extreme conditions aren't healthy for them e.g. leave it completely depleted or completely charged for prolonged periods of time (days?).
i just charge mine to full the 1st time i get it while it is off and i am fitting screen protector etc
i then use it till its about 10% and charge to full
i then use it as normal and top up charge whenever
it may not be needed but batterys have always been good for me and its a little routine i seem to be stuck in lol
hope your new phone is decent and you enjoy
Hey everyone,
I'm using the "Battery Calibration" app to calibrate my GS2 battery, and I have already charged it to 100% and wiped the "batterystats.bin" file, and completely discharged it.
Now I have a question about charging it back to 100% - I'm going to be charging it while the phone is turned off, so how long should I leave it on charge before I can be absolutely sure it's at 100%? Some posts suggest 24 hours, while others say overnight or even 8 hours or so is completely fine and enough for the battery to become fully charged. Also, I don't need to "bump charge" to properly calibrate it, correct? I just let it charge to 100% now, and then I can use it as normal, right?
Thanks in advance for your help!
8hours ish should take you upto 100%
And after its upto 100% its fine to use it as normal.

...yep...when you see on the display (by clicking home button) the battery icon showing inside 100% then you can unplug your phone and use it normally...battery have a limit of charge just to avoid corruption so when they are at 100% they automatically stop to receive more charge...that's why I think is useful to leave the phone in charge more than he need.

...sorry I haven't seen you already answer
Thanks for the responses guys!
Now, it has been about 3 hours since I put my phone for charging, turned off, at a completely discharged 0% battery (I even tried download mode before I put it for charging, to make sure it was completely discharged), and now the charge meter is showing 100%...
I'm pretty sure that 3 hours is a VERY short time to charge to 100%... I haven't taken it off the charger yet, so would you recommend waiting a few more hours (maybe 5 more hours?), or is it fine to just take it off the charger right now?
I'm worried a bit now, because 3 hours seems an extremely short amount of time to charge a battery that is 'supposed' to run for 18+ hours...
Well, I just read that 3 hours is about normal, so thank you for your help!

...you are welcome bro
Firstly, there isn't such a thing as battery calibration with Lithium batteries. Since there is NO MEMORY EFFECT.
Lithium batteries are not Lead Acid batteries, it does not need 8hr to 16hr trickle charge.
Charging is controlled by BMS, there is no such thing as Charging past 100%. So when it is considered 100% by the BMS (Voltage), the BMS will stop charging it.
Lithium batteries gets damaged when there is less than 10% charge, so emptying it to 0% is not a good idea. You cannot really extend Lithium batteries lifespan since it only has a 2+1/2 yr lifespan, 2000 to 5000 deep charge cycles and around 2,000,000 micro charge cycles. It is better to charge anytime you want, as long as it does not go below 10% (Most electronic equipments will state 0% at that time).
Deep Charge Cycle, when close to 0% (10% charge left in battery) you can charge 2000 times back to 100% (depending on quality of battery)
Micro Charge Cycle, when roughly above 40%, you can charge 2,000,000 times back to 100%.
Soooo..... would you like to limit battery charging cycles to 2000 or prefer that you can charge it 2,000,000 times?
What is the best way for charging our phones x10 mini pro, I mean when it has to be connected, trying to not damage it.
For example, I charge it when I want even i have 96% i charge it again if I have the oportunity. So is this way ok? Or is recomendable wait for more discharge....
I think this is important, because is about the battery life so, I hope your answers...!!
Thx!
I'd say let your battery discharge at least twice a month and let it charge fully twice a month. It shouldn't matter charging your phone every now and again but make sure now and again you fully charge and discharge your battery

read the cataloge , i read my s2 and it says for not damagin battery it wont charge after 95-98% , somthing like this .
full charge twice a month is a nice thing .
For you two thanx for ur answers,m but Full Charge means that I have to wait the phone turns off, or with 10 or 5% of battery?
google it, most of phone battery are Li-ion
Li-ion is used because it's fast charging
It also have capability to remember last state of energy stored, it means you can unplug even it still not fully charged, but this action are considered unhealthy for your battery.
using Li-ion to under 60% often will reduce its lifetime, Ni based battery are different, it has to be used until the very last and then need to be fully charged before unplug or else it will give false 100% indicator
some site recommend you charge it whenever you can
========================================
I think once a month fully discharge and continue with full charge will do
Personally I rarely full discharge it, and it seems okay for 2 year.
After a few overcharge, I got mine a little fast discharging...
Hi,
I've read various guides on the net on the best way to charge an S3 (or any modern smartphone).
Some say charge when the battery is at 40% and take it off when it reaches 80%.
Some say to fully discharge it, then charge to 100%.
Can anyone give me advice on the best way to charge my phone (so the battery lasts longer).
Thanks.

Charge your phone when the phone says connect to charger and remove it when it says Fully charged.. this is the best way to charge your phone...
The battery is only supposed to last 50 charge cycles, before capacity is noticeably reduced. As above, don't leave it fully charged and don't let it go below 15%.

It wont matter if you leave your phone on the charger when it says fully charged since they have a cut off point so when it reaches 100% it will not continue to put power into the battery. That's why I charge mine overnight because when I wake up the charger is cold so I know it hasn't been charging all night

Point to note on the above reply .
We on XDA first found that users left phone on charge overnight where reporting a dead unit . After a number of these posts it was recognized as what became SDS or sudden death syndrome .
Leaving on charge overnight is not the actual cause of SDS but something i don't risk any more fixes or not .
SDS seems to manifest in 2 distinct ways.
1) Complete eMMC failure. This usually happens over night whilst on charge* - The LED may be lit but the phone will not wake. Subsequent removal of the battery will turn off the LED. You will never get the LED back on. The phone will never turn on again. It needs to go to a service centre and have the motherboard replaced
* Being on Charge is NOT the cause. This is a writing to memory issue and it is more likely to happen when teh device is awake rather than in deep sleep. When the S3 is on charge, it holds a wake lock (so remains awake) throughout the entire charging period, meaning SDS is more likely to occur when on charge This does not mean you should avoid charging your phone. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen

ya its a good thing to note, never to leave it charging even if the phone says charged, remove it as soon as phone says charged!!

I'm going to start charging mine while I'm at work. I normally charge it overnight but it seems from what I've read here that it's counterproductive.
