[Q] (Q) Weird issue with galaxy s internal sd memory - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had problems with my galaxy S, which was running on official 2.3.6
I decided to wipe everything clean and install a custom rom
But during the process, I've come across a weird weird problem
I started to get UIDs system error and was asking me to wipe data partition to use the phone
so I tried to wipe all the partitions
I have tried wiping int sd card via phone -> didn't work
I have tried wiping via cwm -> didn't work
I have tried wiping & re-partition via odin + reinstall -> didn't work
I have physically deleted contents from int sd while connected via USB -> didn't work
I have formatted the removable disk (int sd) while connected via USB -> didn't work
what I mean by didn't work is, the next time I reboot, I find that all the contents in my phone comes back alive...
I don't know what I can do to fix this problem
I can install new mods fine, but due to the fact that old system files and apps are present together, which didn't get wiped, and causes clashes and my phone won't work as it starts up... I really don't know how I can fix this problem and wipe my phone clean to "resurrect" it..
please help me if you know solution to this problem

This really sounds weired.....
You should download sd maid for root users (search for the paid version)
There you have many options for finding odd data on your sdcard and internal phone storage
you can delete files
sd maid makes you find some dead apps wich make your problems
give me a feedback if it works..or not
stay well

hey thanks for the suggestion, but at the moment, I can't use the phone at all because all my basics apps and system apps clashes on boot up, no matter what I flash on to my phone, hence basically it won't start up.. so I can't use any apps infact the phone itself
Only thing I can do is via CWM recovery mode, or via odin
If you know how to deal with this problem via that way, it will be great~

Ok it seems if something went wrong during ur installation
To bring ur phone back to life
1. http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ go here type in I9000 and search for the stock rom that belongs to ur country
2.search for the *.ops file for ur I9000
3. look out for a flashing guid for ur phone ( you will find it here in the xda)
4. reflash the stock rom and test if ur problems still there
Reply to me if it worked or not

[Q] can't root, can't delete anything

I just bought a used vibrant... sadly it has a huge problem.
Problem consists of:
1.Can't remove previous user gmail account
2. Can't download apps from market
3. If an app is installed to external sd, it will install.
4. If anything is put on the phone (pictures, apps, music), it will be removed after the phone is restarted.
5. Capturing picture from camera, if the file put in internal memory, it can't be opened or sometimes error.
6. Receiving mp3 or mp4 file from bluetooth that put in internal memory, all files gonna error & can't be open.
7. can't root the phone because everything is WIPE while restarting the phone include the update.zip that placed in internal memory.
8. some old photos can't be delete from internal memory, once the phone is restart, those photos are appear again.
Attemps to fix include:
1.Formating internal and external sd
2.Wiping data in recovery
3.Flashing multiple roms in recovery
4.using odin with repartition checked
now i'm using JI6
anybody can help pleaseeee.
thank you
Wait, you used ODIN and the other account is still logged in? If that's the case then it doesn't sound like ODIN is working. ODIN if i'm not mistaken is basically re-writing everything from the ground up, bootloader, recovery, radio, kernel, rom. Can you give us a little more info such as what happens when you flash another rom, or after you use odin.
One other thing, you mentioned that you can't root the phone, yet you said that you have tried to install other roms. Are you sure you're doing everything properly? In ODIN does the console recognize your phone? Can you get into download mode?
Yeah, something in the OP is NOT correct.
OP, could you try the ALT METHOD in the NOOB GUIDE in my signature. It will take care of everything as I have used it many times as well as others. It will give you root, jk2 froyo and then you can flash on top of it.... no way in previous data should be stored.
Also, didnt see you listed a factoy reset which is in the settings options.
@Paging :
Of course Odin recognize my phone & I can get to download mode or recovery mode. I try using odin to flash the ROM to JI6. But everthing inside the internal memory is not wipe. Not much differences after flashing. But everytime I restart my phone, there is a pop-up message that said "sorry can't open maps....." or "sorry can't open amazone...." Those old photos that stored in internal memory is not wipe and the gmail account also not erased / remove.
As I said before, I don't know what should I do for rooting since the phone gonna wipe out all new file. When I put update.zip in the root, it's wipe when I restart my phone. So, how can I use this file in recovery mode ? When I choose "reinstall package"... it said :
E:can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
I tried using "one click root". It's useless either
What I've done so far is : I can flash the rom to JI6, JI2 and JK2 (all using Odin). Now I'm running in JI6. While flashing using odin, I don't tick the "re-partition" box. So far this this phone is working, but have much trouble as I mentioned above.
@s15274n :
in your noob guide, it said that :
I have already renamed the file update.zip so all that is required is moving this to your internal memory, NOT in a folder. You should use a file manager (or your PC) so that it appears like this:
sdcard/update.zip
1. Download the attached zip and rename to: update.zip
2. On your device, navigate to Settings > Applications > USB settings and select Mass storage
3. Plug your device into your computer, select mount USB from your device's pull-down window
4. Copy the update.zip to the INTERNAL SD memory (~14gb on this drive, not the one w/ Avatar if you've still got the 2gb SD card in)
5. Turn your phone off.
6. Hold down volume up and volume down while powering on the phone, this should get you to a recovery menu, you may have to try this a few times.
7. In Recovery menu select 'Reinstall Packages' (use vol_down then power to select)
when I connect the phone to PC, I can see the 13.6GB internal memory. I can see the folders : DCIM, data, amazonmp3, mobi_drm, slacker svox, Android and SD (external sd).
BUT I can't see sdcard/.
There is another SD folder which is hidden folder.
I already put update.zip file in the root directory, not inside of those folders. But it's wipe after the phone restart. So I try the frustating way, I copy update.zip file to root, and to all those folder include the hidden SD folder. It still not working. All those files wiped after my phone restart.
I haven't install any program / application inside my phone because it's gonna wipe after restart. I check my "sd card & phone storage", it said that
Phone storage:
Total space 13.18GB
Available space 13.15GB
Application Storage :
Available Space : 1.6GB
Is that normal ? Why the application storage is so small ?????
of couse I try the factory reset. I already unmount internal memory & format it.
But... those old photos & gmail account is still untouchable.
any idea how to fix this problem ?
How if I using "one click unroot" ? is it safe ?
please help me.
try doing a phone data reset
you will find that under settings > privacy > reset phone data
also, make sure you're micoSD is plugged in. 2 mintues ago i was having the same exact problems as you were having so i finally decided to give it a one last go before calling it a night. I plugged my microSD card in and re-attempted to root my phone and surprisingly that did the trick....it could be just a coincidence though
good luck!
Unfortunately the phone data reset did not solve the issue.
OK, after playing with the phone somemore, I found out that I can temporarily root my vibrant using the OCLF 2.3.0 - Z4Root app; I verified this by running the "su" command under terminal emulator. However once the phone is restarted, the su/root privilege is gone and I would have to install OCLF and run the Z4Root app again to gain root access. I don't think this is normal?
What's strange is that I can flash different ROMs using Odin without any issue, but I simply can't root the phone permanently. Does any one have any more idea I can try?

every night im trying all i can to delete the undeleted files but no success..
i had the exact problem as you with my galaxy s.
please help us.
when i reboot all apps are force closing even my bluetooth cant turn on because
its force closing also.
OP,
I would:
- remove external SD card
- desktop > menu > settings > SD and phone storage > format phone storage.
- ODIN back to original stock, JDF. follow the ODIN instruction here.
This should put your phone back to the original stock. There should be none of the old system data, kernel, root or anything. Your SD card should also be clear of all old data, which could be preventing permanent rooting. From this point you should be able to root, install cwr and flash roms at will.
I don't think there is a way for data to survive a JDF odin nor an SD card format.

so what did u use for your ROM ?
Now I'm back to JFD... everything is back like the factory reset, but those problems still remains. At least there are no pop-up error message anymore.
I don't know what should I do now ? even factory reset or repartition using odin still can't help us. hik...hikss.....
I'm start to thinking that it's a hardware problem.
same here flashed to stock rom force closures are gone bluetooth working again but still cant delete wipe or access the internal sd..tried every solution u could but no luck..

[Q] My computer doesn’t see my phone when connected

When I connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable, and mount it, the drives do not show up on my computer. Everything looks correct on the phone. I want to get everything off of the phone. What can be done to fix this??
I have tried uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, rebooting my phone, checking/un-checking debugging, and nothing works. Without fixing this, I can not even Odin back to stock or flash a new ROM.
flash different kernel ! or go to dev section and find sd card fix .
sd not showing up on your computer is kernels fault which one you are on some of them are buggy and wont display sd card in computer tab .
pull your external memmory out of the phone put it in the SD SLOT IN YOUR COMPUTER copy rom of your choice ! eject the sd out of your computer put it back in the phone wualllla

Yes, I did that. Like I said, the phone is acting like it is supposed to, but I can not access either the internal nor external SD card through explorer.
You might want to try replacing the connector cable. I had the same problem with my epic and that fixed it
Good luck

I am running a custom ROM. What do you mean by "Fix permission" & "factory reset"? Will doing a factory reset take me back to stock?
i tell this to everyone who has this problem: start simple. the first thing you should do in this case is reinstall you drivers. i know it sounds silly, but i have frequent mounting issues that are always resolved by simply running the SamsungDrivers.exe and reinstalling them. it refreshes the driver.
not saying its going to work everytime, but its quite possible. ive suggested this to many people in the past and it worked for them.....give it a shot.
bartek was kind enough to repeat what i said in the next post

yes factory reset will leave you on the rom you are on right now just all from scratch all your programs will be wiped and also all unecesary files that might prevent your computer from finding your sd but REINSTALL THE DRIVERS FIRST SEE HOW THAT GOES as sometimes simple things like that are the problem .

I wiped everything and it fixed my issue. I still do not know were to "Fix permission", but at this point it works. Now when I unplug the USB, it still shows that the phone is still connected through the USB in the top left corner of the phone. Why is that?

[Q] Lagging, freezing, hanging, and then suddenly applications are forced to close..

Hello,
Lately I've been having some issues with my Samsung Galaxy S II. I am currently using the Omega v10.4 ROM, although I have reset my phone to stock multiple times to check and confirm that this is NOT a problem caused by a ROM, as this happens on stock as well.
Apparently, my phone does not like the standby mode. Most of the time when I unlock my phone, there is an issue that arises which basically makes the phone freeze/hang/lag at the home screen. I am not able to use the soft buttons on the bottom, nor click any of the buttons on the home screen, or slide between other screens. The main button DOES work, and prompts me to change to a different loader.
I've tried this with multiple loaders, and everytime this happens I get the error message "[insert_current_launcher_name_here] was forced to close.", and I get to either force close the launcher, or report/wait. "Wait" and "Report" pretty much do nothing, I just sit there and look at a frozen screen. However, when I do "Force Close", the Launcher at hand is (obviously) force closed, and restarts. Then everything's fine again.
This keeps happening over and over more frequently over the past few days, and I have no idea what caused it. I have not recently dropped my phone, and even though it's got a warranty, I got it from CeX, so I'm not sure how much they can fix on it, if they actually can.
I searched around and some people say it's faulty wiring, but it used to be PERFECT, and I've had it for more than 3-4 months now. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this and how it can be fixed?
Thank you,
Richard Solomou
Given you're having these problems with stock, I'd probably do a format of the internal SD card (also format your external SD card if you have one. Obviously back your important stuff like contacts/sms/call logs up), then reflash stock via Odin. Obviously you want to avoid restoring anything but your contacts, sms history & call logs, I.E. do not restore any apps or app data (including/especially system apps) in Ti. You need to to an absolutely clean install.
If you're still having problems after this, make sure the flash counter is no & showing Samsung Official in download mode (jig it if necessary) & return it for warranty service.

Alright, I'll try to format the internal SD card; I don't have an external one. The way to do this is to unmount it via Recovery and then select "Format SD card", correct?

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

[Q] Any stable ROM's for Samsung galaxy txt

I am having a Samsung Galaxy txt for a couple of years now. It is working great. But i am planning to put a costume ROM on it because i don't want all these pre-loaded apps on it (takes allot of useful phone memory space). Is there any well known ROM for this phone? And if there is, how can i put it on the device? or is their just a way of moving these apps to the SD card?

First download the rom by searching through the forum then turn on the usb debugging on your phone> usb connection on MSC mode & copy paste it to the sd card. Then go to CWM recovery wipe & format system, data ,cache & flash the rom.

OK first you might want to give complete directions. Those only work if already rooted on a custom recovery.
Do the research for your device. I don't e end think it has unlocked bootloaders so it may not be an option to begin with

[Q] sdcard0 = 0 bytes, missing / corruption ?

Hello,
Recently, I have followed a tutorial to root Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 within 2.3.6. But, it wasn't precise and I have tried within 4.1.2. Device didn't boot, it stayed on SAMSUNG logo. I have could "reinstall" 4.1.2 and the mobile run correctly. But, after "reinstall", device didn't have access to internal SD card and it said "Space short (0bytes)". Whenever I launched a software (example camera), it said "Please disconnect mass storage" but device wasn't connect to something... I have an external SD card, the mobile see her and her capacity (example 2,2Go/4Go) but I haven't access too.
When I connect my phone to the computer, it sees external SD card and know play her contents. Computer sees internal SD card but not her contents and her storage capacity is -15045154 bytes...
I think, may be, ways to access sdcard0 and external SD card have been change in device.
I hope to find a solution to recover my files without reset and all lose, you are my last hope.
Best regards.
Hum, anyone an idea ?
how did you root your device? what options/commands did you execute? Maybe you've accidentally messed with the memblocks or something. Have you tried formatting your internal sd through your phone?
On tutorial, I had to put "update_su_I8160.zip" on my SD card (internal or external, it wasn't precise). So, I have her place to internal SD card. Then, reboot in download mode. I launched Odin, connected my phone to computer, put "I8160XXLD8_ready_to_root_ANT.tar.md5" in PDA, "Start". After this, phone has been reboot and lock on SAMSUNG logo. Then I had "reinstall" Jelly Bean.
I didn't formate internal SD, all will be lost.
Try to root your phone using this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215996
And always put your flash files to your external sdcard, it's much safer that way.
Ok, external SD card, I don't forget.
Root is success. But, I I thought that uninstall applications imposed for example but I cannot...
So, the root didn't have change for my problem.
I thank you anyway to the solution to root !

Did you regain access to your internal sdcard my friend?
As you can see, the link that I gave you shows how to root ace 2 on GB (2.3.6) and JB (4.1.2). Hence, different android versions, had different ways of rooting. So if you flash GB and used the JB method of rooting, that may definitely cause some issues. That's what I seem to understand with regards to your prost, so please correct me if i'm wrong.
What do you mean by, "But, I thought that uninstall applications imposed for example but I cannot..."? Kindly elaborate.
Uninstalling applications is easy once the device is rooted. Did you have access to your phone after rooting to 2.3.6, or it just got stuck at boot logo on first boot?
Yes, two ways to root GB and JB. I had use GB root method on JB system and I didn't have access to my phone, only lock on boot logo.
For uninstall applications, there is a method in particular ? Or just Settings -> Applications -> Samsung Apps (I hate) -> Uninstall ?
To finish, I don't have access to internal SD card, again :/

That may have caused the problem, the way you root the phone. You should've used JB way of rooting JB and vice-versa. There are many ways to uninstall system apps, one way is via rootexplorer (needs root access), and delete apk's on 'system/app' folder. Or much more easier way is to use Root Uninstaller. Just be careful on deleting system apps. Some of them are necessary for the device to run, and by deleting those apps may cause bootloop or might get stuck at boot logo. But first, you need to fix your phone. Try reflashing ROM and proceed to the proper rooting process as per version. Goodluck!

I just hope that yours was not a case of sdcard corruption. 'cause that link's topic was about corrupted internal sd. Try to flash the last working ROM that you had use, wherein the internal sd used to be detected.
Ah ok.
Jelly Bean is my last ROM (stock firmware by SAMSUNG) and it was reinstall correctly (after the "fail" with root GB on JB). But, nothing changes :/
I see (in recovery mode, Odin) "Leave CS...". What is this ?
Ok, it's the end...
I had try to reinstall stock firmware (the same that my phone) but I had obtain an error and now on boot my phone, I have "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I had try to launch "urgency restore", a full reset, but I had obtain a Korean message
So, it's a disaster.
Now, if it's possible, I want to reset my phone, I want to work. If not possible, go to after sales service...
I hate SAMSUNG, performances restricts , useless applications installed... to have to root the phone... AND FAIL.............
clean sdcard then use.
2 month ,i have had same problem

Sad to hear that buddy. If it's under warranty, you can try to send it to service center -but rooting voids the warranty- so i guess it'll be out of the option, unless you can revert to stock recovery. It's really hard to deal with hardware once it wears out.
The warranty wasn't SAMSUNG, I forgot
I have a luck, may be. Normally, they will go trade, or repair.
I abreast you. Topic will be closed soon probably.
I think my files in internal SD card are irrecoverable now. It's unfortunate.
I learned this week, SAMSUNG sucks for low cost offers. I think buy Nexus next time, so much less changes on Android (I hope).
Sir I have lenovo a6000 when I insert SD card it show 0bytes but show SD card and I cannot access it.
