Have a little dilemma about my next phone. I will purchase by the end of the summer. Android phones only.
Prices fall down hardly ,and very slow in area where I live.
Budget : ~300e .
I am not some great fan of any brand and manufacturer ,but have a little more affections for HTC,Motorola`s rzr line of phones, nokia, sony,lg.
Some of them I like for built quality (htc, motortola rzr line, nokia e-siries,N8,N9 ) ,some for low and competitive prices like sony and lg.
As I red about SoC`s and they benchmark results ,I am not concerned ,and much of those dual-core cpu`s and 512+ ram will be sufficient for me.
Camera quality is not much of importance.
4+ inches display is a must have.
Price listings of certain phones price ranged ~300e in my country :
1) HTC EVO 3D ~ 300e
2) Motorola ATRIX ~ 330e
3) LG Optimus 3D P920 ~ 300e
these three bellow had a little shortcomings compare to 3 above.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 ~ 325e
Sony Xperia Sola MT27i ~ 340e
LG P990 Optimus 2X ~ 285e
Help me chose between those 3 models,by voting and description why particular one ,and any suggestion of some similar device and price is accepted.
New one considering : 4) Samsung I9070 Galaxy S Advance ~ 315e .
Hi there,
Well, looking to those phones, I'd recommend HTC Evo 3D...
1) Motorola never EVER! They have good phones but they don't have commitment with their user community neither developers one... so I'd skip.
Also, Motorola Atrix could not receive ICS (I mean officialy with everything working..). A confirmation on their pages is not 100% trustable..
2) Looking at the specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3901&idPhone2=3759 , HTC seems a better choice.
They do support much more the users and developers. Here, in Brazil, there is not a great participation from HTC brand, but all over the internet they say great things about them.
Also: http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/
Idk, I've never being a huge fan from LG phones...
How about Galaxy SII? If the price is the same, wouldn't it be a better choice? It stills one of the most powerfull phones already with ICS and probably will receive the next android version (GalaxyS is receiving a ValuePack, a 2 year old phone).
GalaxyS Advanced is good but HTC Evo 3D better ...
Regards,
I'd recommend the Evo or a Galaxy SII.
At this point the Evo 3d or a little more expensive device.
Like the HTC One X or the Galaxy S III
One x costs ~540e, SIII costs ~650e , SII costs ~400e.
Will stick to the evo 3d if something do not aperar in price segment ~250e - ~300e.
Thanks.

S3 is 599 euro and even somewhere you can find it for 579 euro....
The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone on the market.
I aways preffer Samsung
I migrate from Nokia to Android devices about 2 years and aways used Samsung devices.
I'm very satisfied with the quality of its products and update support. So, I can't recommend you to try some other manufacturer.
I hope it helped who are looking for a good choice.

Let your first priority be
Wildfire S and the second one motorola defy.
None of those will give you the feeling of a real improvement. But if you don't want to wait and spend more money on a much better device I suggest you choose the Wildfire S. The Defy is also a nice phone. The first Wildfire and Gio are not an option.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
well defy leads all way in all the option u provided anytime defy
great resolution 16m colors
480 X 854 pixels larger screen
800 mhz cpu
plus cm7 and miui official support for defy !
so in all defy leads all http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3777&idPhone2=3514
just make sure u get the red lens in camera and not the green lens http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116694
confirm before buying on lens issue. and enjoy ur new phone
i would go for the defy, bigger screen, nicer colors, official cm7 support, 720P recording, arg, i want it now
I think we will see dual core in the same price range within 6 months, so it may be worth holding on to the optimus

well we already got 1 miui phone m1 in the same price so yes we will defintely see some price slash in many phones if m1 wins the dual core category but still if any1 wants to go ahead than its not at all bad he can enjoy his phone fr the time being and than again change the next year as a lot is expected from defy too as the thread is growing fast- but yes not to match with high end phones obvious
i see what you guys are saying and maybe it is a good idee waiting.
i dont know how it works where you guys stay but here in SA those phones are on contract for 24 months, the defy contact is R89 for R100 airtime + 25 free sms + 10mb data for 24 months.
the wildfire S contact is R99 for R100 airtime + 25 free sms + 10mb data for 24 months.
currency: $1 = +/- R8
so there you have it. what do you think know?
is the wildfire S worth R10 more a month then the defy?
and when i go get it ill look for the red lens... if its green then its a no no...

It's actually the best ideea. If you really want to upgrade your phone, get at least 1ghz single core, at least 3.7" HVGA etc.

Start by eliminating everything Motorola as it is junk. Galaxy s 2 or galaxy nexus.

I would say Galaxy Note, but that depends on you liking a
5 inch mammoth of a phone. Outside of that, Galaxy
Nexus or SII would be my next choices.
Thanks for the reply ...
fine dude , if i opt for samsung which one should i go for it ? i can go upto $650 not more than that . r8 now am using motorola defy and am very much pleased with that , will take your comments as my buying option .
Motorola makes decent phones hardware wise, but they lock the bootloaders, install tons of bloatware and make your phone model obsolete in a few months.
Samsung galaxy S 2, why ? Cause i have him! Best phone.

Moving to Q&A
I think the Galaxy SII is the better android phone now. If you want to want to hack him, there is a lot of ROM availables. Some of my friends have it, the screen is very good, and the battery life seems to be pretty decent too. It's a powerful, and beautiful. Take it
Thanks for the reply ...
guess i made this post in Q and A only !
and above now the options are S2 or nexus or note ?
Just as a note (no phone pun intended) if you go with the S2 I'd personally recommend trying to get one that's more standard GSM, international version for example avoid the Samsung Epic 4G Touch if possible, it has a bigger screen, but it's not as compatible as the other variants are... the GSM versions seem to have more ROM options, I guess maybe it's due to the CDMA modem in the E4GT, but there isn't even a full-compatible release of Cyanogenmod for the E4GT and the official ICS isn't out for it either. I have the E4GT and I really like it, but I bought it thinking Cyanogenmod was already out for it, but it was only available for the other SG2 models. The same might be true for Skyrocket? Just something to think about.
I surely would buy Sgs II.
I own a Galaxy S. My bro has a Sgs II and i felt in love with his phone. ABSOLUTELY GREAT.
Galaxy Nexus is awesome too but i didnt saw it in person
no choice
hi, i got samsung galaxy 2 (sgs2) for almost half a year - couldnt be happier!!!! my friends with nexus and motorolla are sorry they didnt get my phone. I suggest to get either sgs2 or samsung note depending on the size you are comfortable with as they are practically identical aprt from the screen size.
Also, dont forget that sgs3 will be out in few month and 3d phones are about to start their crusaide.
Go to gsmarena.com and do a comparison (under the photo of the phone on th eleft click on COMPARE) with any of the phones and by spec sg2 will will - by user experience as well @gsmarena.com/[email protected]
hope it helps...
Hi guys. I'm going to buy a new phone because my Galaxy Ace don't satisfies me.
I'm a bit unsure about this 2 phones:
HTC EVO 3D or SAMSUNG GALAXY S2
I want buy htc because i very like sense, i like htc smartphones, it's quite similar with the s2, and have 3D (not very important but it can do video and photo in 3D ) and i don't have so much money to buy s2.
But if i want s2 i only need to wait more time. (damn money >.<)
The question is Performance
S2 is very much speedy than HTC EVO?
Write me a comparison between cpu and vga of this 2 phones please. Thanks!!!!
SGSII
EDIT: plenty of comparisons on the world wide web, for example - HERE
Or even do a search here on xda!!
Not trying to be an ass, but this question has in my opinion been explained substantially!
I don't have direct experience with those two phones, but my girlfriend has the s2 for att and I have the HTC rezound on verizon. I believe the processors are the same respectively for both, and I constantly compare our phones to see which is faster and tbh, there isn't much of a difference. Her s2 seems a little snappier at times but honestly, the difference isn't enough to make me jealous. If you like sense, I'd say go for the evo, if you want a larger super amoled screen, and feel like forking out more cash (I think the s2 is 200 where I work and the 3d is only 99) go for the samsung. Neither phone is a bad choice, and as far as performance, both will be amazingly quick compared to the phone you're coming from, and really not that far from each other in terms of performance.
Good luck choosing!
Thanks for all replys. I like this 2 phones and for me there isn't much differences. But i'm scared because i don't want EVO to will be lagger in game performance.
Ah, the qHD display of EVO looks better than the screen of the iphone right? I want a realy good resolution
Amoled is better than lcd but the resolution of evo is very noticeable compared to resolution of s2 right?
I think u should wait for a short time, for the news phone, HTC one V
Oh my god. Htc is copying iphone??? -.- My god... No microsd, need microsim and battery isn't removable. O my god. Why htc need to copy iphone... Looser...
Ah, this 3 model of htc cost too much for my money budget.

Huawei announced the "fastest phone" if that's what you're interested in. Rumor says it'll be stock ICS, and huawei is well-known for its low prices (though who knows if they'll continue that policy with their new high-ends). Seems to have pretty good resolution and size for gaming as well. You would, of course, have to wait till it comes out.
I don't want to wait anymore i'm bored >.<
I have decided i'll buy htc evo, because android don't need too much perfomance to play the mostest game right?
Ah, with ICS the perfomance of phones will improve??
I think huawei is a brand economic.
Please answer. This is my last question about ice scream.
im not sure that sg2 is best choice now. if i were u i would wait for sg3 (comming very soon) or buy s1. galaxy s is very good phone.
Hahhahaha, SG S is a good phone i know but updates are deads :|
And it will not get ICS... I trust HTC and i hope it will not delude me.
SGS2 is the best phone for now but HTC EVO 3D have same hardware and comes with a good software. And have 3D capacity. So i buy htc. Samsung have deluded me. Anyway the question is changed. ICS should not improve perfomance of all devices? So the EVO 3D with ICS should be very fast right?
Phones with ICS are going to be faster because of OS improvements as well as phone release time. There are benchmark results on youtube for the EVO 3D and any other device you're looking at. Based on the benchmarks, I'm sure you'll be very happy with the EVO 3D.
Hi everybody!
As the title implies, i'm looking for advice on low-end android devices.
EDIT:
decided to exclude the LG optimus one (3MP camera kills it for me), and the Galaxy Ace (278Mo of ram as opposed to 512mo on the Wildfire S)
But here come new challengers, as i've read marvelous comment on them:
The Motorola Defy, and the ZTE Blade S/Orange San Francisco II.
EDIT: removed the ZTE Blade S (hard to get and no support for adobe flash)
Added the Acer Liquid Metal (cheaper than i expected!)
After quite a lot of research, including here at XDA, it came down to those 3 devices, in that order:
1)Motorola Defy
2)HTC Wildfire S
3)Acer Liquid Metal
All three have:
- 512mo of ram,
- a 800+mhz CPU (well, actually, the Wildfire S has a 600mhz cpu, but it seems to be on-par with other 800mhz proc, performance-wise),
- Gingerbread
- a 5MP camera,
which are all important to me.
Oh, and i'd like the mobile to be able to turn into a wifi hotspot, i know the wildfire s does, but i guess all 3 mobiles do?
*Ideally, it should be a device i can reliably find around 200$ or less online or in brick and mortar stores.
I'm looking for the budget device that can be the (combination of) best/fastest/most stable with Root/kernels/roms/OC and the such, as this is what i'm willing to do. (plus, it's quite fun)
I'm not looking for the absolute fastest/most powerful, but rather more for the phone that benefits the most from a stable, bug-free rom.
*I already have a HTC Wildfire S, but after many, many, many tries, i didn't manage to root it.
(I'm stuck with a 0.9 HBoot that prevents me from getting the root, from what i have gathered, a problem on some HTC Wildfire S devices. Guess i'm just unlucky )
However, i guess i could find a store that could XTC Clip it for me.
(XTC clip works with ANY HTC wildfire S with a 100% success rate, right?)
Or maybe sell it, and buy another, already-rooted, one.
And it seems a rooted HTC Wildfire S could go a long way as far as getting a good device goes.
(Given the info on Cyanogenmod's site, the S can't benefit from Cyanogenmod 7 while the classical wildfire can. The other two can)
*EDIT:
after some research, regarding flash support:
- Defy and Liquid Metal both support full adoble flash
- Wildfire S supports only flashlite
Looks like the skyfire browser can help with flash support to some extent, but i must confess i really like Opera mobile.
Oh, and i'm perfectly aware that a phone around that price won't skyrocket to SII or Iphone 4 levels of performance, but that's not what i'm looking for.
Thanks a lot for your answers!

Or maybe sell it, and buy another, already-rooted, one.
And, apparently, a rooted HTC Wildfire S could go a long way as far as getting a good device goes.
(Given the info on Cyanogenmod's site, the S can't benefit from Cyanogenmod 7 while the classical wildfire can? Am i right on this?)
*Samsung galaxy ace is pretty hard to get at 150$ apparently (it's more like 200$), and i like the fact that the Wildfire S comes with more ram. Maybe it's irrelevant?
*As far as the LG Optimus goes, i've read very mixed reviews. Some claim it is a best budget phone, others tell you not to buy it at all.
Would that phone really benefit from rooting as far as performance goes? Is it easy?
I've also read great things about Huawei Ideos, ZTE Blade and Acer Liquidmini, but those are fairly hard to come by used and unlocked, as compared to the 3 phones above.
I could however use some feedback on them, or others i might have missed for that matter (easy to hack? really benefit from being hacked?)
Oh, and i'm perfectly aware that a phone around that price won't skyrocket to SII or Iphone 4 levels of performance, but that's not what i'm looking for.

Suggestion...
If you are in the silicon valley (i know its a long shot...WWW is a global phenomenon ;-) I would check out some meetups and try to find one that is giving away free device to developers that attend those meetups...I can say that I have received around 3 brand new devices and they are worked out great for development purposes... plus you will save money!
I would go with the LG if I'm not mistaken it already has a almost fully functional CM9 only camera doesn't work i think.
Sent from my LG-P350 using xda premium
I'm not sure about Canada, but in the US you can find high end phones (Galaxy S2) for under $200 (with contract agreement) at authorized dealer locations such as Best Buy.
use craigslist or kijiji and get an lg optimus 2x. Good battery life, excellent camera and dual core 1ghz, plus it has HUGE rom dev and ics :-D. U can get one for around $100.
Hi guys!
Thanks a lot for the answers!
@Leo.o: a trip to Silicone valley would cost me a lot more than 150$.
@Nerot: interesting, i'll check that, even if the camera not working is kind of a big letdown.
@Towle: i'm already under contract agreement (that's how i got the HTC Wildfire S i didn't manage to root)
@Icenight89: I'll check that phone, thanks for the suggestion. Edit: checked, and the phone is more around 250$+ for an unlocked one.
Sidenote:
All in all, is it worth the trouble to root my current HTC Wildfire S?
Would it be a very good phone once rooted?
Also, is XTC Clip garantueed a 100% success rate, as i didn't manage to unlock the bootlader using the tools at HTC dev?
I apparently found a shop in Ottawa that could do it for 30$, but i don't want to waste those 30$ for it not to work.
Edit: i've also read great things about the Motorola Defy, anyone got feedback on it?
(not that i really care about the "indestructible" aspect, but if the phone can be greatly optimized and last a few years, spec-wise, the fact that it's highly resistant is a plus)
I have a Samsung galaxy gio, and my mom has the ace. They are both great phones, but i like the gio much better. Its just an awesome phone for the price. My sister has an HTC wildfire s, and i personally HATE it. It has almost no room to install apps, and i find it impossible to type on it. It doesnt seem to be able to keep up with me.
@AlwaysDroid: the galaxy Gio is really light, spec-wise, in my opinion.
But feedback is always appreciated, so thanks a lot!
Went with further research, and decided to eliminate the LG optimus one (3MP camera kills it for me), and the Samsung Galaxy Ace (278mo of Ram kills it for me, i must confess i love having 512mo of Ram).
So, now the competitors are: HTC Wildfire S, Motorola Defy+, and, the ZTE Blade S/Orange San Francisco II.
I'll edit the first post.
Eliminated the ZTE Blade S (hard to get and doesn't support flash)
Added the Acer Liquid Metal (cheaper than i expected!)
Edited the 1st post.
Still looking for advice/feedback, thanks a lot guys!
well...did u choosed anything ???
hi all ..i have been eyeing on the s2 ever since it was released ..the problem is the price is so steep back then ...RM2100 ..but about 6 months later it dropped to RM 1900 ...then just last week it dropped to RM 1648 ..and today it dropped to RM 1558! it dropped RM100 in a week!? thats insane!! ..just wondering does anyone know the cause of it ?
S3 due out, HTC One due out, Xperia S out, Xperia P due out, Droid Razr Maxx due out. And so on....
And the S2 is a year old now...
Not rocket science.
i am pretty new to smartphones ..but a drop of RM600 in a course of a year is pretty crazy in my eyes ..or is this very common? i also realized that my bro's Galaxy S used to cost nearly RM2000! when it came out ..now my bro bought it for a 2nd hand for RM620 ...wow ....are smartphone prices so unstable? will the s2 cost a mere RM1000 at the end of the year?
Not unstable, simply Market forces. This is how it works, pay top price as an early adopter.
oh...thanks! oh and is the s2 is good phone ? cause i am thinking of other alternatives like htc sensation , xperia s , and arc s ...s2 is great but it ..soooo common and it's design ain't that appealing ..
I have a personal preference for SE phones, they are very well engineered and have been utterly reliable when used all over the world for me. Never missed a beat. But, I also like the SGS2, it is light and fast. The screen resolution is poor compared with Xperia, but has a greater contrast ratio. I don't understand why Samsung omit the notification LED from their phones, so I use "NoLED" from the Market to act as a notification alert. It works well on an OLED screen - very Nokia C7!
Your choice, ultimately. If you don't like the looks of the SGS2 now, you may never do so. So you might not "love" it as an owner.
In the Netherlands the price is still over 400 euro`s , more thant 600 us dollars.
Dude we love S2 not coz of " cute". But its a beast in hardware capabilities and the awesome dev section in XDA

you have to take note that in recent years, smartphone technologies have progress in lighting speed. At the start of 2010, phone with 1Ghz processor was top of the leauge, in 2011, it's duo core who catch the show (Where Galaxy S2 shine), and now its 2012, where quad core and 720p HD screen host the show, specification of galaxy S2 as of today only worth as a medium class. How much you would expect people pay for a medium class phone?
Other than Apple product, where apple have control over their retail price, it's natural for their price to drop as technogies advance. Well, only idiot apple fan would pay for overprice piece of product near it's debut retail price when it's so obsolete.

I don`t agree with you, had a galaxy note for 2 months and sold it again and went back to the s2. The s2 is way faster, more responsive and has imo a better screen. This is after a year still a top three device, but that`s just me
IMO even till now s2 is still pretty beastly ..at least quadrant , nenamark wise ..it still the highest in the business even after so long ...even higher than Xperia S , nexus ...
Tell me about it.
I bought my SG2 last month for 760$ (in Israel). Now it sells for 670$.
