Now that we have all sped up our phones, and roms because of this thread by androcheck:

(some have also used this thread for a general processor speed up:

Is it time to bring back the original flip clock that seemed to slow down the phone, but should now be ok. I thought it was quite cool, and demonstrated a nice animated widget.
Has anyone got the original HTC Flip(ping) clock, and know where it can be gotten from?
I second this
I'm in!
Or do i just wait untill 2.1?
Come on, please. Somebody must have a copy of the original Flip clock that come out on the hero. Please someone tell me how to get a copy.
I tried extracting the HTCClock apk from the original roms zip from t-mobile, but it didn't work.
Any other suggestions?
Do a search for Beautiful Widgets in the market, it may not be free but i think its what you are looking for

Just checked it out, so two points.
1. Why would I pay for something which is free on hero, where these widgets are to make other phones look like hero.
2. the flip clock is not animated on Beautiful widgets:
taken from:http://www.androidtapp.com/beautiful-widgets/
1 - "... Android home screen widgets resemble the impressive UI of the HTC Sense available on the HTC Hero phone."
2 - "The clock/weather widget is static and doesn’t have the card flip and weather scene animations like the HTC Sense UI but works well. Added more widgets to this set will make it even more sweet!"
So thanks for trying, appreciated. It's the animated original flip clock I am asking about.

It didn't work because perhaps, I extracted it wrongly or I had extracted the wrong set of files. I am not a dev on the hero, so I wouldn't knowhow to remove the current HTC clock and widget and how to install a new one into system memory. All I was asking for was someone who perhaps has got the original flip clock left on their phone (someone who hasn't updated their phone since they got it when it came out) to provide a the widget files.
There must be a way of it working (with the correct files, once they are found) because it did work before.
Look, if it is too much for you then I apologise, I was just asking for the widget.
P.S., when you say "us" in your quote above - do you speak for the whole community?
the process is basically right, there is no magic in copying apk's from a to b. it is just that the whole sense environment goes deep into android. afaik there is still no completely "sense-less" rom available yet that fully works. on top of that sense is from htc and therefore closed source.
did you do a search? you are not the first one to ask for this, several people have tried to get the flip clock back. if it was that trivial it had been done by now. and no, there is no "must" for it to work, with the given resources.
if you want to make sure you get the original widget get it from an official update file here in the stickies, or from an old update.zip which you can find in the stickies at modaco. not sure why someone else should do the job for you?
when i say "us" i mean everybody that feels adressed...
OK cool, I'll try to investigate it further.
Sorry I asked now, I just thought someone may already know the process of extracting the correct flip clock files so they could readily be adb pushed into the phine ti the right place. Other people in this thread also expressed an interest in attaining the files. So sorry that I asked in the Q&A area.
just ask everything again and again, that's totally cool. it were different if that information was already here, let alone several times. and sure, other people making the same mistake does make it better, absolutely. and i really shouldn't tell you that it is most probably not doable, since i havn't tried it myself including deodexing the file to give it a chance to work at all.

That's really cool, I did try (so no, not too lazy) and failed thinking that I might be doing something wrong. That's the only reason I asked the initial question, 'cos I was sure that someone who knew what they were doing or were more experienced might already have it or know how to get it.
I'm glad you've got it. Any chance of sharing once you've figured out how you did it?
well, my trying involved a little more than just copying it from another rom... edit: and by everybody else i mean those people around here that know how to do this, stuff like deodexing etc. not actually EVERYBODY.
for the moment i am having trouble using my phone at all, won't register to network for some reason. i think it is not a good idea to use airplane mode when rebooting and restoring backups frequently, so for now i am repairing...
you can try the attached apk, delete HtcClockWidget.* from /system/app, then push the attached apk and reboot (probably best to do it in recovery). when i tried this yesterday i got errors, today i flashed the whole rom again (no wipe) and it worked... no idea why actually.
Tried what you said, but the clock said it couldn't be installed when I removed the HtcClockWidget.* and replaced it with the one you gave (using adb push).
So I then tried reinstalling the rom, and now all I have is the non-animated flip clock again.
Can you clarify the steps you took to get the animated one installed under modaco 3.1? I just can't get the animated one to work? Thanks again for trying - there must be something that I'm doing wrong.
try this one, install through recovery as usual. there seems to be a difference in using update.zip and adb push, even when pushing in recovery. with this update.zip i can install and use it, but don't get any mobile network connection at all, neither voice nor data. i just arrived at home, i will look into this later again, but tbh i am not too optimistic.
to revert just flash the mcr rom over it, or make a nandroid backup before. make that backup anyway.

EXCELLENT! it worked!
0) Nandroid Backup.
1) I backed up with adb pull both HtcClockWidget.odex and HtcClockWidget.apk from /system/app to my pc.
2) Then I deleted them both from /system/app.
3) I put your update zip onto my SD root directory.
4) Then with amonra I updated with your zip.
5) Restarted, then chose the widget from the add menu on homescreen. Et voila I got the animated flip clock. AWESOME!
THANKS A MILLION Kendong2, hope you get it working ok yours.
this is now here:

i didn't get it working on my own phone (in my old installation of mcr3.1), but actually that installation doesn't work good at all. i think i've something else messed up, it works fine on a fresh installation.
Here is the apk for the touchwiz launcher. I installed it with no problems. (directly through phone) this is the touchwiz30_rolle file. This file does not need to be installed through adb!
Credit goes to rolle3k in the nexus section for the touchwiz30_rolle.apk file
the touchwiz.zip file includes samsung widgets and original unmodified touchwiz launcher file. I have not tested/tryed these, though if you want to install them, it must be done through adb.
I am not responsible for any damage to your phone.

VibrantOwnr,
In the zip file the .apk named "TouchWiz30_rolle.apk". That's the only one that installed for me. The one named "TouchWiz30Launcher.apk" wouldn't install at all. The widgets wouldn't install either for some reason.
TouchWiz30_rolle.apk is just the launcer. No widgets!

Yes its also very choppy when flipping through screens on the application drawer....
can we possibly get a fix to that? I really love and prefer the TouchWiZ interface but the choppiness kills it, any one have any ideas as to whats causing it?

CM7 is straight Android with some reasonable improvements and modifications. No apps come with it but the bare essentials. Some people very much prefer it sans gapps, as the Google apps pack is know, because once it's in there it's like an octopus. To answer your question, yes, just download the gapps.zip and flash it as you would a ROM.
i was pretty sure that the android market would be considered a bare necessity for your phone.... i guess that would just be stupid to include something that's really important and makes sense.. i dont understand why all roms don't come with the same apps, if you can flash a rom im pretty sure you can figure out how to go into file manager and delete some apps, it doesn't come with titanium backup either which annoyed me..

The cm roms are not allowed to include gapps. Early on the original dev received a c&d order to stop putting them in, so now you flash them separate. It's not that hard, nor does it take long. Download rom, download gapps, download kernel if you want, flash all in recovery. Done.

No, it's not in any conceivable way a necessity for Android. There's many ways to install apps and different markets to use as well. MOST devs don't make habit of making as many personal choices for the user as humanly possible. Some people don't use Ti backup. A HUGE part of a custom ROM is not having to deal with the bloatware. Some consider all that crap you're talking about useless bloatware and CM7 is aimed squarely at the folks who'd consider Google apps unwanted bloatware. Why are you even trying it if you don't like it???
not wanting an app market to me is just plain stupid... whats the point of going that out of the way to put apps on your phone when you can download them in seconds with the market - the right way.. i tried it because i wanted to check it out but i just dont think it's for me and i'll probably just use a th3ory rom

Yes. Please do. You're DEFINITELY NOT a CM7 kinda guy. And can ya do me a favor? Stop calling things you don't agree with stupid and presumptuously proclaiming what the "right way" is for something to be done? I can fully understand why someone might not want Market on their device. I've got plenty of apps I install from other sources. It's not like it's a big deal. You just install them, and it's faster than Market most of the time.

He's not mad, he's right. lol, you look like a real lazy guy. If you love market so much and don't want to flash gapps after cm7, you definitely don't belong to custom roms section as such. I'd recommend that you stop Modding your android and use stock rom that came with your phone.
Again, law prohibits use of weed and inclusion of gapps in cm7 by default. You got to learn to deal with things even if you don't like them.

I don't use the market much anymore, everything I use I have backed up in Titanium Backup. One really nice thing about not having the market installed is I can use my apps without requiring a update first, this really annoys me especially when the update sucks and I want to re-install the previous version through Titanium Backup but can't use the previous version because there's an update. I add the apk's I want into the zip before I flash it, that take 2 seconds and its tailored to my liking, not the Dev/other users.

Just not keen on the attitude. I'm not a huge fan of AOSP myself. It's just too spartan for me and I've never felt like building up a ROM to do what I've come to enjoy from Sense. My girlfriend thinks it's the best thing ever. I appreciate what it is, why she and others likes it, and why they develop it the way they do. I'm VERY glad it's out there because, as a project, Cyanogen contributes immensely to the Android community. Just doesn't seem like you respect CM for what it is.
Just flash the google apps zip in recovery and you'll get the market back she whatever else you want that google makes.
umm...wow @ this whole thread
Market still missing after flashed gapps
My market still missing even after I flashed gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip..how to solve this guys?
It's because of the lawyers
See here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps
Technically no ROM can ship with Google's app bundle out of the box; you have to flash separately. CyanogenMod, being a much bigger organization than most ROM producers, have to be more by-the-book.
Hello,
I've been on stock kernel/OS since I bought my unbranded I9100 some time ago, that means Gingerbread 2.3.4, I9100XXKI1, Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 (rooted, of course).
I'm thinking about trying CM9 or CM10, just for fun. I think I know pretty well what to expect, but am trying to figure out if there are things I will be missing. As far as I can tell, the following will change significantly:
- Touchwiz launcher replaced, of course. No biggie.
- Swype will be gone, right? I played around with CM way back, and there seemed to be some discussions about how to take Swype with you, but I assume this will be rather hard when going from Gingerbread to JB? Or is there a good way to keep it (without buying it separately)? I like it rather a lot...
- The four hubs (Social Hub etc.) will be gone. Good riddance, as well, I've never used any of them.
- I've not used any of the Samsung remote features (to locate a stolen/lost device; OTA, or KIES), so I guess they will be gone, but I won't miss them.
Is there anything else I've missed that's been added by Samsung? I want to avoid a problem where I don't actually notice anything important missing at first, and then noticing weeks later...
Thank you for your time!
I noticed my camera was missing on one of them.

You could use titanium backup to backup all of your (system) apps. If something (important) turns out to be missing, you can restore it easily. Apart from that, flash it, you won't be disappointed. Good luck with exploring all the possibilities.

Apps only in touchwiz wont work in aosp roms since they are deeply integrated within the touchwiz framework, so no use backup app system apps nor system data. Restoring system data may cause problems ranging from bootloops to force closes.

There are plenty of camera apps around. Can I safely assume that the picture quality (as it is) will be the same as with the stock camera app? I use the camera for taking pictures, I need no effects, online stuff etc. around photos. In fact I am not that happy with the stock camera, as I find it tough to shoot a photo when I don't see the screen... so I'll be happy to hunt for a camera app that supports some of the hardware buttons for shooting.

I did.. and I would have moved off cm9 by now cause my battery was draining pretty bad on the rom however after 3 days the battery time was back to normal which is weird..
i was just curious if someone can get me a list of apps that can be unistalled for faster performance on MeanBean without bricking anything. i dont use most the stock apps but am unsure of which ones i can do without ie...News and weather....email..... sprint music.... stuff like that im not sure if i can get rid of them without something else suffering. thank you in advance.

Try using an app freezer first then if there's no negative impact un install frozen app. Of course do a back up of each app incase there's a problem later. That way you don't have to reflash rom.
Titanium backup
System tuner
This is the most recent list for Sense I could locate for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197265
If you're flashing ROM's with some regularity, I do. And I don't feel like removing apps from the zip. Here is an app that makes it simple to do after the fact: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32849928
You could also set up ROM Cleaner to take care of it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832162
Hope that helps
really just looking to get rid of the garbage, like news and weather i don't believe sense uses them besides the widget which i delete anyway.

Wow. ROM Cleaner is the shiz. I made my own NO-Sense_user.txt file and was able to trim off almost 100 apps(starting apps count from MeanBean).
care to post that list?

Just get the NO-Sense_user.txt from here and use Notepad++ to customize it just remove the # from anything you want to remove
I could if you'd like but it would be better to edit one for yourself as I probably have A LOT of things deleted that you might want to keep and might have kept a lot of what you want deleted. It's really simple to edit as you are only putting in or taking out a # sign.
